The history of the Big Boy lives on. These GIANTS ruled the rails for decades. Many thanks Brian for your efforts. Thanks for bringing this into our homes for all to see. Enjoyed every moment. It was a selfless effort on your part, to bring this to all your viewers. That Vista Dome coach brought memories. I rode in one back in 1958, it was the Colorado Eagle. Once again, Thank you!
It was a fantastic event and I was happy to be a volunteer for it for a couple of days. Beautiful amazing engines. The crew were really nice and answered so many questions. I ride the Frontrunner often and it's a comfortable convenient way to get to Salt Lake.
Bravo! You captured some of the best shots of 4014 action, and caught the event perfectly. Having chased the SP Daylight when it made its return in 1981, we could relate to all of this, and we had the advantage of being on our SoCal stomping grounds. Don't know how you manage to leapfrog ahead all alone, yet set up in perfect locations, show the train in all its glory and the railfanatics out for the big show. Multi thumbs up!!!
6:58 to 7:04 you can hear the echo of the whistle from the Big Boy in Echo canyon that is the winning catch nice job. Silly helicopter drowned out the echo at the rest stop. Best footage yet ty
I was hoping you would get over to catch Big Boy. You got some great video. But, I think the guys in the police truck got the best. Thanks for posting this and I hope you feel better. Oh yea, thanks also for catching the size of the mad house that was pacing along with you.
YOU ARE SPECTACULAR WITH YOUR VIDEO I AM YOUR FOLLOWER AND SINGLE BUILDER OF LIVE STEAM IN BRAZIL ADMIRED ITS DEDICATION TO VISUALIZE THE BEST MOMENT AND ALL CHALLENGES FOUND CONGRATULATIONS WE ARE TOGETHER HERE ALWAYS
That was awesome jaw tooth I was there in Ogden I live in Utah so is pretty damn cool seeing the big boy but I wasn't able to chase it thank you for filming the chase I knew it'd be crazy isn't Weber Canyon beautiful I went down there a while ago you're lucky you got to see the big boy go down Weber Canyon that's where it used to go that's the mountain range it was built for there's actually going to be called the Wasatch class before they named it the big boy peace out have a great day
You do a fantastic job when you move the camera around. My eyes don't roll around in my head. Haha! Fantastic job . I'm glad that there is always more😁. Thanks for sharing.
It is totally awesome all the youtube footage of the big boy 4014 and 844 Awesome to think that the last time 4014 ran there was no technology like RUclips or social media The people who used to maintain this beast would probably think everybody was so crazy I'm about to publicity. The only thing I can say is. Awesome! Awesome! Awesome !!!!!!!!
Good stuff Brian.. I thought it was funny that the police were yelling at yall for creeping down the highway.. In all fairness though, I don't know what they were expecting.. It brings back memories of an experience I had in Colorado a few years back, maybe one day I'll tell you about it.. Left a bad taste in my mouth for that state.. I also know the frustration of railfanning in unfamiliar territory but look at the bright side, at least you were out west where things are a lot more open, spread out and linear than over here on the east coast where you and I come from.. As far as the train goes, I'm sure that I'm not alone when I say how much I appreciate what you put yourself through to bring us this video.. I know first hand of competing with railfan gaggles while chasing steam trains, or any special train for that matter.. In stark contrast though, although an inconvenience for the railfan, for the viewer like me, I think that the rain and moisture in the mountains made the steam much more dramatic than it otherwise would've been..
Thank you Brian for a awesome video of a true work of art. The Big Boy is really sometime to behold. Thanks to you and others here on RUclips I get to see this amazing piece of machinery in action. Hope your feeling better from your cold and thanks again.
What an event! Have to see from video's like yours how big it really was, never made an impact on the National News even if it was in fact news...thanks for sharing this through your eyes
What an intro (to the train) sounds like he even had a police escort. LOL Thank you for braving the bad weather to give us another update on two great locomotives.
Thank you for your documentation of this event!! I have been watching all of your clips as you posted them. Absolutely beautiful cinematography, along with superb audio, especially the whistles!! I'm so glad I am a subscriber. Love your work!!
Hi JT I now have my wife Marion looking at your videos, she is engrossed with them especially your Big Boy ones. Yes what an awesome video with the chase in the cold bad weather, poor police 👮♂️ what could they do?? All we have in 🇬🇧 is the Flying Scotsman to out do your Big Boy. Until the next time regards Martin 🇬🇧
Surprised more people aren't that interested in 4014. The history of 844 is probably better known. But 4014 just came out of the shop and put back int service. 4014 underwent a multi-year multi-billion dollar renovation. It's sure good to see them all back in action again. I am not sure that the Rail Roads understand just how much people love those old boys.
The big boy is going to come right through my neighborhood in a few days! I can’t wait to see it! I’ll try to get it on film, I’ll try to be awake at the time of like 10:15AM July 25
For model railroaders (in N-scale), Kato sells the UP excursion car set (106-086-1), the #844 steam locomotive (126-0401), and the UP water tender 2-car set (106-085) - Sorry, I don’t know what part # for the N-scale Big Boy or Challenger, as I don’t have those! 😎 You may have to find them on eBay, as they tend to be limited-run items, and hobby shops often run out of stock quickly! An ES44AC, though, is much easier to find (Kato part 176-8909 in N-scale), or you can probably find something similar in UP colors from Atlas, Athearn, or Bachmann. The passenger-car set has an interior lighting kit pre-installed, but has a different car instead of the flat-end observation car seen in this video; just a disclaimer here. I believe they also make an HO-scale version, but I don’t have the part Nos. for those, sorry.
Really great video. Utah would be a foreign place for me, too; I've never even been west of Toledo. And here I thought you had to come here to Cleveland to find crappy weather like that this time of year.
It would have been nifty if UP had put the Centennial (DDA40X) on there instead of the AC4400 (or maybe an ES44AC?); talk about mega-power, that would be the largest steam engine, and the largest diesel - whoo! ❤️
Another good video Jaw tooth!, we have a great steam Heritage in England, when are you going to come over here and look at our Railways, as a lifelong employee of the Railway here I could give you some great tips on where to see some great Heritage Railway lines, regards Kevin
Yes, I want to get over there to England. I have a few short clips that my brother in law shot from over there and also my wife shot a few clips when she was visiting with her sister. Have a great week!
Rebel9668 .....yea would have been funny for the cops to give thousands of tickets, and then the people go to traffic court and JUDGE dismisses all the tickets...would turn out JUDGE IS A BIG BOY FAN!👍👍👍
I recorded this in 1080p with 30fps. I still have some of this on my camera. RUclips has it in 720p. I have no idea why that is. Does anyone know?
Showing 4014 and 844 moving on their own is awesome. You did a great job filming this event. You are the best.
Thanks!

Awesome! I filmed the Frontrunner a little bit . I need to post that
Neither rain, ⛈ nor hail, nor snow ⛄ is going to stop Jaw Tooth from getting to see the Big Boy. 🚂
Thanks for sharing. 😉👌
Historic video footage! I appreciate the details and efforts you made to get great quality video of the Big Boy 4014 & 844 together!
You did a great job. Thank you for flying out to video this great train. Thank you again

One of the very best video's you've ever made... Thank's for sharing.
Awesome video my friend, thanks for sharing this with all of us.
unbelievable how such an old engine still looks and runs so well, and you do a great job following up with it.
Gotta say, yours are some of the best ............!
What an event! Have to see from video's like yours how big it really was, never made an impact on the National News even if it was in fact news...thanks for sharing this through your eyes
It did make it on fox 6 crappy news reporters ruined my video of him going over a bridge
that's some heavy duty engines right there!
844 is a high speed passanger train not as high speed as mallard but high speed 3985 is heavy duty
Amazing. I felt like i was there. Thankyou heaps!1
What an intro (to the train) sounds like he even had a police escort. LOL
Thank you for braving the bad weather to give us another update on two great locomotives.

How about Tornado; the first steam engine since the 1960's to officially "Do the Ton"?
Another incredible video! The chase is on! 👍👍👍

Estimates for Boy Boy's restoration were around 4 million dollars. Not even remote close to a billion dollars let alone "multi billion".
Thank you so much for sharing I've truly loved to watch the big boy work what a beautiful engine hope you have a totally awesome day get warm :-)
Great presentation, Jawtooth . Thanks!
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
this video is proof that the big boy is not being pushed or pulled by a diesel, congratulations to the video
Love old steam engines and thanks for the great Big Boy chase video
Great catch Brian, thanks for posting.
I love the yard stuff in Ogden. I saw the two pull into Ogden that day but missed all of that for work.
Some great video. It was worth enduring the bad weather, crowds and catching a cold.
Didn’t know you filmed the Bigboy in Utah Jaw tooth. Excellent video!👍
Yes! Thank you!
The sixteen wheel beast and the eight wheel speed demon up4014 and up 844
Awesome #LiveAction. Great job JT!

Thankful to me living so close to a model railroading shop I can get a big boy just gotta save up
Great to see the flag on the front of the Big Boy. Great that you could see and video the 4014 and 844.
Really great video. Utah would be a foreign place for me, too; I've never even been west of Toledo. And here I thought you had to come here to Cleveland to find crappy weather like that this time of year.

wooow Brian, super good video, wel the lok needs water.so its coming from above.lol.
see those mountains on the back ground.woow i wish i was there.yeh €€€.lol.
Might want to change the title. UP 844 is a 4-8-4 Northen FEF-3. The Challengers is 4-6-6-4. The UP 3985 is the Challenger in Cheyenne.
Great video!!!
With so many people chasing this train, I'm surprised it hasn't hit the news.
Immense work, thanks!
Here's another comment to boost your ratings 👍so more people can enjoy your great content, thank's Jawtooth.
Roy: It's My First Time Operating The Main Line

DDA40X eight axle nearly 7000hp diesel engine
So pretty much put the welcome to omaha sign on rails
p.s. Have you heard about the Uintah RR? You were right there. Most switchbacks anywhere!
Great video
a little cold, but you got some great video 👍
How cool! 😊😊

I love smoke sculpture
I'd like to see the 844 steaming under it's own power in my city.
I'd have laughed at the police. What are they going to do, stop everybody and ticket the thousands following along? You got some great shots :)
Rebel9668 .....yea would have been funny for the cops to give thousands of tickets, and then the people go to traffic court and JUDGE dismisses all the tickets...would turn out JUDGE IS A BIG BOY FAN!👍👍👍
Why would someone dislike this video? Haters gonna hate...
Great vid. Thx. JT.
