    Trying my hand at making some street tiles meant for a town or city, and I have to say they turned out wonderfully! The process of using silicone is a little messy but the detailed bricks are definitely worth-while. Plus you can make roads and streets quickly without baking anything or losing details in just the foam alone. Part 2 will be release down the road! ;)

    As someone who uses this product at work weekly, here's a bit of a warning for everyone now picking this stuff up. Do not rinse silicone caulking down the drain. It will not dilute enough and it will bind to your pipes.

    • @raecheldoes
      @raecheldoes  10 месяцев назад +5

      Thank you for the warning! I probably should have specified throwing away the silicone rubbed off and then pour the water maybe on your lawn or over some rocks outside.

    Thats a fast and confortable way to make a thousand bricks!! And i love to see who all youtube combine ideas.
    PS: you should try the transparent silicon one day. But, before put on, you should add a layer of modpoge over the painting if you dont want the silicon to turn green/yellow in a few days

      Yes! It actually goes by very quickly. Silicone is in my roster now so chances are I'll find a project with which to use it in the future, so I'll definitely keep your advice in mind.

    This idea was so creative. I ended up making about 30 of these tiles with your silicone method! I actually had some brown silicone laying around and highly recommend it for others looking to try. After a black modpodge base coat I actually decided not to paint them all because the black on brown was already 80% of the way there which is good enough for me

    Nice, I quite like the muddy gradients of editing Raechel. It gives a similar result to how I base wasteland tiles in my 40k minis, I use layers of textured acrylic mediums and bleed in inks and washes as they dry. I think the smooth fading patches of colour variation look great from a distance.
    Also that steel and scale game looks cute, it's like brotherhood of steel faces off against high fantasy :) two of my favorite things combined

    This is a great idea, thank you - I've been looking for a material to create thin, textured tiles; dental plaster is too thin/brittle. 3d printed resin too unstable (it curls up over time). Clay shrinks too much. But it's just possible that a layer of silicone and a textured roller could be exactly the thing I've been looking for all this time! Thank you.

  • @noraauger9347
    @noraauger9347 10 месяцев назад

    Neat tiles, but I'm curious: why the silicone? Wouldn't the roller on foam achieve the same texture? What does the silicone add?

    • @raecheldoes
      @raecheldoes  10 месяцев назад +1

      You can absolutely use the roller directly on the foam! The reason I do the silicone though is that the foam doesn't take the impressions as easily or with as much detail as the silicone does. And especially after painting, you risk losing a lot of your work since the pattern doesn't sink nearly as deep.

      That's totally fair since they're easy to forget about. Honestly, you can probably just tape or tack the pieces together in a pinch. RP Archive has a method he used to use with toothpicks or cardboard to put his modular stuff together so that might be a good alternative!
