- FINALLY. FINALLY DONE WITH THIS. this animatic probably encapsulates my whole development of how i draw Benrey and Gordon since I got into hlvrai!

ok personally I interpret this animatic as being Benrey protecting Gordon from his own fate: like they were childhood friends but Gordon has no memory of them as they were purposely erased (by G-man I guess?) as it influenced the destiny he had to accomplish (see half-life 2). I love the idea of Benrey perpetually struggling between protecting Gordon from his fate and letting things go the way they're supposed to. And now I'm thinking that would make a good fanfic concept...
so yeah very good animatic very inspiring !! that's so cool on each frame they are very expressive I can easily imagine their feelings

The perspective of the last few lines, specifically the “they’re coming for you” really hit different with the new context and ohhhhhhhhhhhh (emoji throwing their hands up) ugh this video is so good I love the key frames of movement and the expressions so much, and your art style is so nice

0:24 the detail of benrey being big enough to tip the island gordon is standing on just by leaning on it emphasising just how dangerous he could be without even trying
1:09 HAHAHAHAHA THE RADIAL BLUR
1:20 when gordon gets grabbed, i had to rewind and rewatch that because i loved the slow-in and out of that hand movement
1:30-1:31 because benrey does that little head tilt. subtle acting moments are my absolute favourite
1:37 when gordon rolls his eyes and even his mouth moves with the action
1:41 benrey winking hehehehe
2:02-2:04 i just think it's neat
2:19 holy HECC this angle and the shadows woahohohO
2:20 the banging in time to the beat mm yes chef's kiss
2:22-2:25 did the biggest number on my animation brain. i don't know what it is, just the way his eyelids spring back open and his eyes are shining just. Just. the timing from 2.19 to 2.25 just felt like everything fell right in its place, it felt perfect

I've just, been pouring over every frame of this. I really wanna write the fic for this from Gordon's perspective, how he beats on the bubble, and slides to his knees, arms at his sides. How he feels so damned *conflicted*, cycling through alarm and terror and horror and empathy and compassion and maybe a little bit of shyness, a bit of tenderness, some vulnerability.
Also I am very much eyeballing that red and blue sweet voice and thinking of rhymes. Red and blue like police sirens, means don't want to end it like this, or somethin. Splattered reds and blues, it's always just been us two. Red spotted with blue, this won't be something I can undo.
Aaaagh, excitement abounds.
Wanna know the original intended meaning of the bubbles? It's "baby blue and Bordeaux means I can't let you go" ;)

Ok but this is all so amazing? The art, the premise, how the song matches everything. It’s perfect and is definitely one of the best HLVRAI animatics I’ve ever seen. Amazing job ❤️❤️❤️ I also really love how stuff is open for interpretation. Not just the relationship b/t Benrey and Gordon but also where the rest of the Science Team is. Did Gordon enter this dimension alone? Did they die? Or did they glitch out/have code manipulated? It’s such an interesting au. I really hope that person in the comments finishes the fanfic cause I definitely want to read the completed story and see their interpretation. Again, fantastic job. Hey I absolutely love this video but I just found out somebody actually wrote a fan piece about it on A03 they rewrote the whole ending for Half-Life VR AI to match this animatic I recommend checking it out pretty good
OH my heart BROKE at 2:33 . The implications. Clearly gordon and Benrey were friends as children, but gordon clearly doesn't remember/recognize him. I wonder if what happened was that gordon died, and Benrey used his powers to bring him back. But thats come at a price. A price Benrey is desperately trying to keep gordon from having to pay to G-Man.
