So regardless of how the Scots vote the government of the UK tends to be dominated by parties that don't follow policies most Scots would favour. Hence in part there is a lot of support for independence in Scotland. They have their own parliament that they get to vote for, but it only has limited powers. It is not the same, but it is somewhat analagous to the State Governments and federal Government in the US.

Even when we say we hate the English, the reality is that there is a brothership there when things actually matter. we fought the Nazis with the English, for example. I'm English but I have quite a few Scottish relatives (lovely and generous people), and I feel it's probably the same for a lot of others, we have pretty close ties between our nations, so when we pick at each other, you'll find it's more often just banter...
Most Scots don't hate the English, its a tongue in cheek joke. However, if you are Scottish and you go to England, you'll probably get told that most Scots hate the English. I live in Greece and sometimes when I meet English people here, I get told "Ooh you dont like the English, do you?". To be honest, these stereotypes get very waring and the majority of people who say that shit to me have never been to Scotland. When it comes to not liking people from other countries, I think England wins that one.

I’ve only seen it in videos like this or online :) There was a Scottish lady who came into our shop once who told us about our ancestors forcing English on Scotland and the banning of kilts but she funny enough didn’t seem to be upset about it, just like she was telling us a fact and wanting us to learn it . Which I think is how it should be, do not understand when whoever they are, dislike certain nationalities for their history, like they weren’t there personally so where is the logic in that? I already knew about that part of Scottish and English history she told us about but I think some of my colleges didn’t, as Scottish or any other the other countries in the UK history isn’t (as far as I can remember) taught to us so in school in England so we have to go out of our way to learn about. I do acknowledge that my reasons for the union are selfish though as I believe Scotland leaving will eventually result in the full break up of the union and even with Scotland leaving, it’ll make people who live in Scotland and myself who live in England poorer as a result. I also selfishly care about what the UK looks like to other countries and while I know our influence has dropped a lot, it’ll drop even more if Scotland leaves but that’s my very selfish take on it. I do think in the union we all have a better quality of life and I’m scared that Scotland Breaking away will change that. That’s my own selfish reasoning though and I’m aware it’s quite selfish though I do think Scotland will also have a worse quality of life as well as all other countries in the union. On the non selfish side of it I’m worried that Scotland leaving the UK will be like Brexit and have the two governments constantly at each others throats and things like borders, education, finance and all the other laws that will need to be talked about and decided between Scottish Government and UK government will cause such a political mess that I’m very anxious about. I do think with the correct UK political party in charge (not the corrupt conservatives) and with political changes with how the UK actually functions then the union could work but I do think how the UK currently functions is not working. However if Scotland does vote to leave, I will support it despite my anxious feelings. With how the current UK government is running currently I’m honestly not surprised by the views on independence. I will say I am kind of surprised by your “like some sort of villa” comment? Is this a remark about English people going on holiday in Scotland? Because even if Scotland gains independence we will still be doing that? Scotland is very beautiful so a lot of us like to go on holiday there but it’s no different to us going on holiday in any other places in other countries? Apart from of course the no borders aspect? I always loved Scotland’s landscapes and so even if there was a border between us, I do not see that stopping us from going on holiday there? If you mean a lack of knowledge of Scottish culture, history and languages, the majority of English unfortunately (it’s annoying to me how many English are like this) are like that in other countries as well that are not part of the UK, so that likely won’t change even if Scotland is no longer a part of the UK? Awww love the new doggo. We (me) give our pets human names too. We had 3 turtles called Dave, steve and barry. I used to have a dog called kevin and we had two love birds called Pete and carol. Human names makes it so much funnier. Only reason our current doggo doesnt have a human name is because we adopted her when she was 2, so her name (Beau) was already well established and would just be awkward for her to adjust to a new name.
I just think it's a neighbouring countries thing. Like the US and Canada, we just take the mick out of one another. Its all good though. I think all members of the British Isles are great people. I’m Scottish and find it a huge embarrassment how pathetically anglophobic a lot of my compatriots are. I understand being angry that the UK government is always dictated by English votes; it’s bloody infuriating and we are virtually disenfranchised. But to hate _all_ English people for that reason is nonsensical and prejudiced. Don’t blame Joe Bloggs in Upper Twiddlington, or wherever; they’re just an ordinary person like you are. The fact that our national anthem is all about beating the English in a battle 700+ years ago doesn’t help. Get over it! Why isn’t our national anthem about celebrating our culture and us as a country? We have contributed so damn much to the world and yet we’re still banging on about Robert the Bruce and Bannockburn. It’s tragic. The only exception is international sport, and that’s largely because we are subjected to the English media’s nauseating coverage. I genuinely love England and the English, but I can never bring myself to support them in a tournament, especially when it’s football. I briefly worked in Inverness in Scotland. So I was way up in the Highlands. I was born and raised in England, but my family was originally from Jamaica. I was completely unaware of not really hate but the prejudice some Scots had forbthe English. As an English person, I was blamed for everything from the beheading of Mary Queen if Scots to North sea oil revenues. When it first happened, I was so confused; not the prejudice I was used to. However, once I recovered, I pointed to the obvious flaw in their logic, that none of my ancestors oppressed anyone as they were enslaved at the time. In addition, I said even my white ancestors were oppressed because they were Irish Catholics sent to Jamaica as slaves or indenture servants escaping the potato famine. I made friends with a goth girl from the saw area of Glasgow as Billy Connelly. We had a laugh she looked out for me and told me not to worry about a bunch of in her words "sheep shaggers"

England dominates the politics, really!! Each home nation, that is Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland has it’s own parliament that has a say and can rule on what happens in that country. England is the only one that doesn’t have it’s own Parliament. The parliament in London is for the whole of the UK, which means that if there is a subject that only effects England, MP’s from the other home countries can vote for or against something that doesn’t effect them in the slightest.

Scottish here - don't really hate any country. My mum's from London, England and my dad's Scottish, lived here in Glasgow, Scotland all of my life. The hatred towards the English is only driven from battles hundreds of years ago, and more recently, from the nationalist government that's unfortunately in place here. Politics, as it does in any country, drives more hate than it does good. Also, no issue with the US whatsoever and I've been before - loved it! Only thing I've got against the US is the gun laws and healthcare situation - nobody outside of the military needs an assault rifle and nobody should have to pay £100k after getting shot by some lunatic with one.

Im female in my 40s & one of my nicknames has been murder for a few years now.. Picking my friends kid from primary school & he shouted it across the playground. His teacher gave me such a look.. a mix of confusion etc? This was an english playground to be clear. That made it better & worse. This is from a Scottish detective show whos main actor said things like there's been a murder. The accent ads comedy outside the story. I live on the Scottish side of the border & English freinds think its ha-larious to have me say murder or theres been a murder.. no idea why? Mostly the banter between Scots & English is fairly benign if sometimes savage? Not always tho.. I've been cussed out when ive been places because im Scottish? Never mind trying to pay for things with Scottish money.. some places still dont accept it.. the number of English bus drivers who dont want to accept it is rediculous. I always argue especially when its been the last bus home..
As a Scotsman who has lived in several countries I have nothing but fond memories of living in England and Wales. Scots have ruined themselves with bitterness. Wait until these kids grow up and want to leave Scotland. I do miss the Highlands though. Very few places that equal their beauty.

I too am a Scotsman, and agree with most presumtions of how us Scots are. We are welcoming, friendly, enjoy laughter and the majority of us do have rosy cheeks due to alcohol consumption. But we are an arrogant and rude nation of over patriotic people. This independance rule that Scotland wants is never going to happen.
Scotland is rightly considered to be one of the most beautiful countries in the world. When God was asked why he made it so beautiful he replied that he had to do something to make up for who he gave us a neighbours.

I'm English but I have quite a few Scottish relatives (lovely and generous people), and I feel it's probably the same for a lot of others, we have pretty close ties between our nations, so when we pick at each other, you'll find it's more often just banter...

Most Scots don't hate the English, its a tongue in cheek joke. However, if you are Scottish and you go to England, you'll probably get told that most Scots hate the English. I live in Greece and sometimes when I meet English people here, I get told "Ooh you dont like the English, do you?". To be honest, these stereotypes get very waring and the majority of people who say that shit to me have never been to Scotland. When it comes to not liking people from other countries, I think England wins that one.

The street you liked at 6:33 - 6:44 is in Edinburgh at Candlemaker Row and George IV Bridge junction. Also you may be able to spot the Greyfriars Bobby memorial statue there, a famous dog which had a Disney film made about him not so long ago.
There was another film about him made in 1961. It was in black and white and started a lot of famous Scottis h stars of that time. I think It was an American company who filmed it.

There was a Scottish lady who came into our shop once who told us about our ancestors forcing English on Scotland and the banning of kilts but she funny enough didn’t seem to be upset about it, just like she was telling us a fact and wanting us to learn it .

I do acknowledge that my reasons for the union are selfish though as I believe Scotland leaving will eventually result in the full break up of the union and even with Scotland leaving, it’ll make people who live in Scotland and myself who live in England poorer as a result. I also selfishly care about what the UK looks like to other countries and while I know our influence has dropped a lot, it’ll drop even more if Scotland leaves but that’s my very selfish take on it.
I do think in the union we all have a better quality of life and I’m scared that Scotland Breaking away will change that.
That’s my own selfish reasoning though and I’m aware it’s quite selfish though I do think Scotland will also have a worse quality of life as well as all other countries in the union.
On the non selfish side of it I’m worried that Scotland leaving the UK will be like Brexit and have the two governments constantly at each others throats and things like borders, education, finance and all the other laws that will need to be talked about and decided between Scottish Government and UK government will cause such a political mess that I’m very anxious about.
I do think with the correct UK political party in charge (not the corrupt conservatives) and with political changes with how the UK actually functions then the union could work but I do think how the UK currently functions is not working.
However if Scotland does vote to leave, I will support it despite my anxious feelings.
With how the current UK government is running currently I’m honestly not surprised by the views on independence.
I will say I am kind of surprised by your “like some sort of villa” comment? Is this a remark about English people going on holiday in Scotland? Because even if Scotland gains independence we will still be doing that? Scotland is very beautiful so a lot of us like to go on holiday there but it’s no different to us going on holiday in any other places in other countries? Apart from of course the no borders aspect?
I always loved Scotland’s landscapes and so even if there was a border between us, I do not see that stopping us from going on holiday there?
If you mean a lack of knowledge of Scottish culture, history and languages, the majority of English unfortunately (it’s annoying to me how many English are like this) are like that in other countries as well that are not part of the UK, so that likely won’t change even if Scotland is no longer a part of the UK?

Awww love the new doggo. We (me) give our pets human names too. We had 3 turtles called Dave, steve and barry. I used to have a dog called kevin and we had two love birds called Pete and carol. Human names makes it so much funnier. Only reason our current doggo doesnt have a human name is because we adopted her when she was 2, so her name (Beau) was already well established and would just be awkward for her to adjust to a new name.

I don’t hate any country. Generalising like that is just bonkers. There are things I dislike about certain countries but I realise they’re only a small part and do not necessarily represent the country at all.
I’m Scottish and find it a huge embarrassment how pathetically anglophobic a lot of my compatriots are. I understand being angry that the UK government is always dictated by English votes; it’s bloody infuriating and we are virtually disenfranchised. But to hate _all_ English people for that reason is nonsensical and prejudiced. Don’t blame Joe Bloggs in Upper Twiddlington, or wherever; they’re just an ordinary person like you are.
The fact that our national anthem is all about beating the English in a battle 700+ years ago doesn’t help. Get over it! Why isn’t our national anthem about celebrating our culture and us as a country? We have contributed so damn much to the world and yet we’re still banging on about Robert the Bruce and Bannockburn. It’s tragic.
The only exception is international sport, and that’s largely because we are subjected to the English media’s nauseating coverage. I genuinely love England and the English, but I can never bring myself to support them in a tournament, especially when it’s football. There’s always an expectation that England is going to do really well, even win, that is so bloody presumptuous and arrogant. You could be watching the first round of the World Cup and the commentators will be trying to predict who England might face in the quarter or semi finals - I mean, fuck off! I briefly worked in Inverness in Scotland. So I was way up in the Highlands. I was born and raised in England, but my family was originally from Jamaica. I was completely unaware of not really hate but the prejudice some Scots had forbthe English. As an English person, I was blamed for everything from the beheading of Mary Queen if Scots to North sea oil revenues. When it first happened, I was so confused; not the prejudice I was used to. However, once I recovered, I pointed to the obvious flaw in their logic, that none of my ancestors oppressed anyone as they were enslaved at the time. In addition, I said even my white ancestors were oppressed because they were Irish Catholics sent to Jamaica as slaves or indenture servants escaping the potato famine. I made friends with a goth girl from the saw area of Glasgow as Billy Connelly. We had a laugh she looked out for me and told me not to worry about a bunch of in her words "sheep shaggers"

I am a Scot and i always have been. I do not hate the english as i have lived with them and worked with them for years. What Scots hate most is when we hear footballs coming home, ever since 1966.
England dominates the politics, really!! Each home nation, that is Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland has it’s own parliament that has a say and can rule on what happens in that country. England is the only one that doesn’t have it’s own Parliament. The parliament in London is for the whole of the UK, which means that if there is a subject that only effects England, MP’s from the other home countries can vote for or against something that doesn’t effect them in the slightest.
Utter nonsense, in the past two weeks alone Westminster has overruled two Scottish decisions, one on trans rights and the other on a bottle recycling initiative. We have devolution, not independence.

Scottish here - don't really hate any country. My mum's from London, England and my dad's Scottish, lived here in Glasgow, Scotland all of my life. The hatred towards the English is only driven from battles hundreds of years ago, and more recently, from the nationalist government that's unfortunately in place here. Politics, as it does in any country, drives more hate than it does good. Also, no issue with the US whatsoever and I've been before - loved it! Only thing I've got against the US is the gun laws and healthcare situation - nobody outside of the military needs an assault rifle and nobody should have to pay £100k after getting shot by some lunatic with one.

Im female in my 40s & one of my nicknames has been murder for a few years now.. Picking my friends kid from primary school & he shouted it across the playground. His teacher gave me such a look.. a mix of confusion etc? This was an english playground to be clear. That made it better & worse. This is from a Scottish detective show whos main actor said things like there's been a murder. The accent ads comedy outside the story. I live on the Scottish side of the border & English freinds think its ha-larious to have me say murder or theres been a murder.. no idea why? Mostly the banter between Scots & English is fairly benign if sometimes savage? Not always tho.. I've been cussed out when ive been places because im Scottish? Never mind trying to pay for things with Scottish money.. some places still dont accept it.. the number of English bus drivers who dont want to accept it is rediculous. I always argue especially when its been the last bus home..
As a Scotsman who has lived in several countries I have nothing but fond memories of living in England and Wales. Scots have ruined themselves with bitterness.
Wait until these kids grow up and want to leave Scotland.
I do miss the Highlands though. Very few places that equal their beauty.

I too am a Scotsman, and agree with most presumtions of how us Scots are. We are welcoming, friendly, enjoy laughter and the majority of us do have rosy cheeks due to alcohol consumption. But we are an arrogant and rude nation of over patriotic people. This independance rule that Scotland wants is never going to happen.

Scotland is rightly considered to be one of the most beautiful countries in the world. When God was asked why he made it so beautiful he replied that he had to do something to make up for who he gave us a neighbours.

Northern English people who come and live here usually blend in no problem. There are hordes of posh southern English students who only ever seem to hang out with each other and never make Scottish friends.
I'm sure you don't know everyone and posh southern student don't account for every Southern person, I'm from the South and I couldn't be more common! Stereotypes mean nothing, just there for banter, not to be taken serious
