    Very entertaining video and love the china.
    But unless the salad and main / entree course are served from a tray onto the plate at the table by a server, ( or service a la française)empty plates are in the kitchen and not on the table.
    Dessert cutlery and coffee cups on the table are more common in banqueting settings rather than fine dining restaurants.
    Glasses are usually placed in such a way that a server never holds a bottle over an unused glass.

    Need to throw in two corrections. The water glass is set directly above the knife, the handle of the coffee cup is set at the 5oclock position.

    In several videos about the ‘proper’ setting of a table, there are almost always variations and differences.
    Almost, as if there were several ways to set a table!
    It would be nice to know according tho decree by whom a certain table setting is “correct”...
    It seems it also changes and varies drastically over the course of history, geographic location etc...

    there are mistakes there that needs to be corrected if and when we follow the correct standard placements. there is a lay out called Square lay and round the clock placement of any glasswares and mugs or cups that has handle in it..it is in the 3o'clck, or 5 oclock position of the placement.

    I can't believe Toyota branched off from hubcaps to chargers. Nice to see they have diversified. Good video nonetheless however may I suggest that
    because your plates have symmetrical points, you should line those up as it does look awkward.

      If you eat on top of the plates, I know the waiter can scoop salad into your salad plate but when it comes to the Main course do they take your plate and put food on it or do they fill your plate as it sits in front of you?

  • @trevordallas
    @trevordallas 7 лет назад +10

    All silverware should be placed perfectly straight up and the bottom ends on a straight line. The bread knife should be horizontal on the plate at 9 and 3 o'clock. Placement of both salad fork and soup spoon would be appropriate only if the guest is given a choice, or if both are intended. If the guest is given choice, soup or salad, then immediately remove the appropriate utensil that is not needed. Same goes for removal if the wine glass after guest selects the varietal. Exception would be if different wines are planned with corresponding courses. And, although the plate setup looks great, only the Charger should be placed initially. First course is.served on top of the charger, and both are removed after the first course. :)

    Desserts to be served with champagne. No breads plate, bread is not necessary because of the charcuterie. Water is necessary, ask for coffee if you want,at that time, a coffee cup will be provided along with a jug of coffee and necessary condiments.

    I no longer employ any footmen but my butler and under utler both wear gloves and it is. Very difficult to pick plates up from on top of each other without fumbling and clatter. Never use a charger or stack plates unless you are doing the most informal occasion. Also coffee and tea cups are brought to the table after dessert. This is a rather class-less set up. If you are serving wine, you should also place port, champagne or dessert wine glasses. When the people are seated there should be no plates or bowls except the side or bread plate.

  • @sarahbravo7511
    @sarahbravo7511 4 года назад +2

    No it's not! Why is there a soup spoon if you have a salad plate? And by the way, that isn't a soup spoon - soup spoon bowls are round. The tea spoon (for the coffee?) should not be outside the main's knife, it shouldn't be there at all, neither should the cup and saucer. Also the cutlery should be lined up with an invisible line drawn under the charger, or 1 inch from the table edge with a straight table, the bases of all the cutlery should line up with military precision! I get that there are regional differences (I'm British) but putting the salad plate and the soup spoon out is very confusing for people!

      The smaller spoon is your tea spoon, you'll use it when adding sugar to your coffee. The larger spoon is the table spoon, you use it when having soup. Those are only necessary on the table if you're having soup and coffee, otherwise, they shouldnt be on the table.

    This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.

      I watched the charger video. Still not my cup of tea, but a high kudos to your ingenuity.
      OK Tonie, I need your help. My wife and I are having dinner party, next month. It will be 7 courses. We usually do 4 or 5 courses, but this time I really want to push myself in the kitchen. I'm a guy, but I have always loved cooking. My lovely wife does the entertaining part! It will be a party of 6; me, my wife and two couples. We will have the table setting just like in your video. For the dessert course, we will serve a molten chocolate lava cake, with a poached pear, in the center. Even though the poached pear will be soft, it will still need a knife, to cut it up into bite-size pieces. My question to you is; do we have a small knife(like another bread knife), where the dessert spoon and fork is? Or do we put the small knife by the plate, when the dessert is served?
      Also wanted to tell you, it is great to see another Afro-American show such panache and elegance as you do in your videos. You go girl! Plus, you are hot!!

    • @YourHouseaHomeTV
      @YourHouseaHomeTV  8 лет назад +1

    • @YourHouseaHomeTV
      @YourHouseaHomeTV  8 лет назад +2

      This is a standard formal table setting, more like British. Some of the differences with the French table setting are: there usually is no bread plate or bread knife, the bread is placed on the table, the French style is to place the forks and spoons face down and the initial setting is simple with just the service, dinner and salad plates, along with fork, knife and spoon. The other dishes, glasses and utensils are brought out along with it's course.

      Back in the day it was a drip plate. It was used to catch any spills so it does not get on the table or table cloth.. rule of thumb if u are using a table cloth on the table no need for a charger with placemats. If using placemats with table cloth no need for charger

    Looks very nice but unless you are doing "English Service" this set up does not work. Who serves this way today? The last time I was served "English Service" was on the cruise ship QE2 back in the 1980's. Also one always puts the coffee cup and saucer out when dessert is ready to be served. The exception when you are serving breakfast or brunch. There are more practical ways to set a formal table not just quite this one.
