I saw him live last night in Nashville. He was absolutely breathtaking. How do you sound better live than in a recording. Everyone needs to see him live.
I completely agree!! I saw him live a few months ago and his voice is unbelievable!!! By far the best singer in the world to see live, and that's not something I'd say if I didn't mean it
I distinctly remember seeing this live on SNL. I usually always tune out the performers and use that time to get food or go to the bathroom, but the moment he opened his mouth my eyes SNAPPED to the television, mouth just agape. I couldn't believe the sounds coming out of his mouth. I knew he'd be a big deal, and I'm so glad to see him enjoying the success he is.
You can see the pain and emotion in his eyes as he sings this. I read the Wikipedia article about his album "In the Lonely Hour" and it was so sad to read that the songs on it came from true feelings he had. Apparently he had been in love with a man that didn't love him back, and he was constantly sad and lonely--and still sometimes feels lonely today. It's so sad to hear that such an amazing man had to go through that. :( I hope he becomes happier. He is an amazing singer and a phenomenal songwriter.
This was THE performance that made me 100% sold on the absolute soul of sam smith 6 yrs ago! I just love him so much. I find it rare that an artist sounds this great live!
Most beautiful song I've probably ever heard. I remember watching this on snl which is weird because I usually skip the music. This was my face after I saw this = 😦
How is this guy even real? I've never heard this song before and he straight up just brought tears to me eyes. Yep, gonna go buy his album right the ef now.
His voice is so powerful, but it has a shyness in it, which it's so weird but at the same time magnificent. The combination is so perfect, I don't think anyone else can do it justice beside him. When the song ended he stepped back with a shy smile on his face and the eyes like a little kid getting praised for something of which he is too modest to think any higher of himself (did that make sense?). He looked so cute, it makes me wanna give him a big hug
You pulled the words out of my mouth. He's such a talent, and you can see how much he pours himself into his music, then immediately he steps away from the mic at the end of the song, and shyly smiles. It's like he's in his little bubble by day, and when he gets so engulfed in his music, he goes to a different world or something. That's beautiful. I wish people in the comments would quit talking about his sexuality and just focus on the sheer talent that he possesses!! I mean he is the most talented singer/songwriter I have ever heard. Weather you agree with his sexuality or not, it doesn't matter in this sense. Just enjoy the angelic voice that he brings with him. He's such a lovely man omg. His personality is fantastic. I want to be his best friend & have him sing me to sleep every night!!!
Exactly. He looked so innocent, shy, naïve, call it what you want. Makes me love him even more and I hope he never loses that vulnerability. Makes him unique to all other singers and songwriters.
It's a humble smile I think. He knows he's good, but we know he's great. It's an amazing voice. The range, the tone, it's crazy. Let's just enjoy it. :-)
British singers have been killin the game for a minute now. American music is all about getting bad singers but good looking people and making a product out of them. While in Britain it is mainly focused on your vocals and your ability to write music. If Ed Sherren was from America originally he might have never even made it big because he doesn't look like a celebrity. I love what the Brits are doing with their entertainment business. From films,tv, to musicians. Keeping it real is how things should be. No gimmicks.
Exactly! And it's not just the singing quality and looks of celebrities here, it's also how all of the songs are about partying, drinking, etc. These lyrics are so sincere and genuine, and beautifully sung. Way to go, Britain!
Daymian P Adele is not on the same level? Are you sure about that. We are talking about Adele right. She is a superstar vocalists. Sam Smith is also up there.
This guy is dope. Like his range is fucking out of this world yo. Like I literally replayed this atleast 20 times in a row lol like this dude is incredible. Real music. Beautiful lyrics and melody. I love it.
His voice is immaculate!! Even better live, dang. I'm currently clicking on all his videos lol. "Stay With Me" is the best song I've heard on the radio for a very long time. His acoustic cover with Mary J. Bilge is amazing.
I see a lot of the ignorant people talking shit about his sexual preference, that has absolutely nothing to do with his music, and I'm straight I acknowledge talent for what it is, I don't talk down on others for being happy, if a person feels being gay is what makes them happy so be it, who are you too judge? What makes you so special? He's talented, he's most likely a very nice person, who cares about what he prefers, it's about the music. Not about the private life.
I absolutely agree! In a hypothetical situation, if he had never came out, no one would know and no one would even worry about that. Ridiculous some people.
Forrest Woodcox For the longest time i thought he was straight and the songs he wrote were for a girl since i could relate to them in every way, but when i found out his sexual preference i realized something, it does matter that hes gay, hes proving that love is love regardless of gender...
I can actually see the pain in his face when he is singing and I even see his eye water at some point in the video..man you can really tell how genuine he is and that's part of the reasons he is so good, sincerity
I never post my feelings on youtube videos because i dont see a point, but this song got me. I lost my father at a young age and since then i promised that i will have the family he's always wanted. Now here i am expecting a child and the mother threatens to take it away from me. It kills me that i might not be able to keep that promise to my father and this song makes me wish he was still here so he could help me with this. It breaks my heart everytime.
Congratulations on your baby and I hope the mother gets some sense. Just remember to be the bigger man. I'm sorry for your loss, your comment really got to me because I have a 1 year old that I know I most certainly could not ever live without. A child really does change you. I hope that you guys can work things out *Prayers*
I remember this night...it was amazing! I had fallen asleep on the couch...and then I heard him singing. I sat straight up and said "who is this?" I had no idea..., but his voice was so beautiful. He was gentle then powerful...amazing control!
God. He's perfect. From the lowest notes to the highest, the falsettos, it's flawless. And very humble, of course. I can't wait to see you here in the Philippines.
Holy shit this guy is amazing, such raw and authentic talent. Really eager for his album to drop, he's gonna take the music industry by storm. Reminds me somewhat of Adele. Pretty sure I'm not the only one who's made that comparison.
That's a good point! He is like a male Adele. I've only just heard of him today. Just heard him on the radio, then looked him up on RUclips. Didn't even know if he wrote his own songs or anything about him. I just knew his song blew me away and I had to look him up and listen to more of him.
He is AMAZING! I only found him after hearing La La La (he is the genius behind that song, not Naughty Boy). His voice is so stunning. I can't stop listening to it! I really hope he makes it big and they play him on the radio more... one or two songs he's "featured" in are really not enough.
not many artists these days can pull off stellar and captivating performances with their voices only, and that is why Sam smith is so special in my eyes. with just a microphone and a touch of background music, he captivates his audiences and connects with them is such a special place, with his rare and truly amazing voice of his.
2018. Still watch this every time I'm down or need a good cry. Such a powerful and emotional delivery. I remember watching this live and being blown away with both songs
Been watching SNL since it's beginning. Now I haven't seen every show, but I've seen a lot of them. I can't think of a better performance. Every. single. note. is. perfection.
I am a married man over 50 yrs of age with 3 teenage daughters and it's taken me about six months to write this post... Which is my first one! I first heard of Sam Smith when I saw his performance on SNL and when he sang "lay me down" i could not stop crying, partly because it bought back memories of my brother who passed away from cancer in a hospice centre some 7 yrs before and the thought of laying there beside him while he lay in bed sedated and about to pass. It also made me cry because of its sheer artistry. My wife and children could not understand why there were so many tears, and I could not explain it to them, so I simply took my IPad, headphones and listened to it over and over on my own.....I have probably cried along to that song a hundred times since and am no longer afraid fo have others see it. Sam Smith is a unique talent and I hope he continues to bring the same emotion to his performances for many years to come..
I remember watching him during this performance of SNL. I was awestruck. I am so happy for his much deserved success. Watching this breathtaking performance never gets old.
I just lost my straight boyfriend to suicide. This is the only thing that has kept me from pulling the trigger myself. Thank you so much for this beautiful song. I miss him so much. Sometimes I wish that I could "Lay Me Down" by his side.
So sorry for your loss. Very proud to hear that you have someone by your side and in your heart to preach to you. This song is a very deep and emotional song. You can do this!
"Lay Me Down" Yes, I do, I believe That one day I will be Where I was right there Right next to you And it's hard The days just seem so dark The moon and the stars Are nothing without you Your touch, your skin Where do I begin? No words can explain The way I'm missing you Deny this emptiness This hole that I'm inside These tears They tell their own story Told me not to cry when you were gone But the feeling's overwhelming, it's much too strong Can I lay by your side? Next to you, you And make sure you're alright I'll take care of you I don't want to be here if I can't be with you tonight I'm reaching out to you Can you hear my call? This hurt that I've been through I'm missing you, missing you like crazy [This verse is only in the album version:] You told me not to cry when you were gone But the feeling's overwhelming, it's much too strong Can I lay by your side? Next to you, you And make sure you're alright I'll take care of you I don't want to be here if I can't be with you tonight Lay me down tonight Lay me by your side Lay me down tonight Lay me by your side Can I lay by your side? Next to you You
I still watch these instead of his albums this energy he had that night was just incredible. Really an unforgettable experience watching this in bum fuck no where in the middle of the night. Just the most powerful emotional journey through both of the songs he sang that night.
I want to dedicate this song to all the people who have lost a love one, especially those that have lost their lover in combat or those who's lovers are still over seas-i'm sure this is how it feels, stay strong.
Who are the 77 people that had the audacity to dislike this performance. There aren't many people out there nowadays that have this type of raw emotion and such a soulful voice. This young man has a God given gift. His voice gives me chills and I don't say that often about an artist.
There are many different ways to hear a song. This made me think about caring for my beautiful mom while cancer slowly took her away. Maybe it's the words...maybe it's the aching pain in his voice. All I know is that it's beautiful. And made me cry.
Thank you, Thang Vuong. I've always felt it was a privilege to be able to be there when she needed me the most. And thank you for not posting negative comments like so many others do here. Always nice to see a mature person on here. :) Who the heck cares if this singer is gay or whatever?? He has an amazing voice with alot of feeling to it.
Thank you, Rozalia. (What a beautiful name!) I just wish people would realize that music touches people in different ways for different reasons. It's about MUSIC. Doesn't matter how they look or their personal preferences... it's about what you HEAR. So many performers today have to try to be flashy & outrageous - which can make for a good show live. But once the show is over...for me, it's about How Was The Music. I've seen lots of concerts over the years but one of my favorites was seeing Eric Clapton. It was just him & his guitar, nothing else on stage. I was just a teenager but thought then that this will be the best show I will ever see. And I was right. If you have a true talent for singing..you don't need all that other stuff. Let your voice be your talent. :)
Chris Kurzman before Sam Smith Bruno Mars have been killing it with live performances.. and please.. Bruno Mars makes songs that he and Sam Smith can sing...
Sam Smith, I never heard of you until SNL, but you have quickly become one of my new favorite musicians to listen to and this right here is my new favorite song.
My mother passed away on Christmas Day, but I remember in the months before she died that she always wanted to hear "the British guy with the big voice." So, I'd play it. Thanks for that Sam, and congratulations on a great night at the Grammys.
Although while Sam doesn't move when he songs, he has such a powerful voice that he doesn't need to be. He's amazing! I've never heard a voice like his! I fell in love with his music, especially this song because it more than fits a situation I'm in right now. I'm addicted!
listening to this brings back so many memories. Struggled a lot with mental illness as a young teenager/child and was in and out of Psych wards, this song resinates with me so much but in a different way. Each night my mother would fall asleep on the uncomfortable fold out hospital bed, she did this for weeks... until they told us she would have to stay in a seperate part of the hospital (For parents to sleep for children who are in for more than a month). That was the first night i slept without her in the room with me and it was the hardest moment in my entire life. 'Can i lay by your side Next to you, and make sure your alright I'll take care of you i dont want to be here if i cant be with you' Sam Smith will forever be my comfort artist, thank you for helping bond my mother and I. A true undeniable talent.
I love that its just him and 2 instruments. I don't think many singers could do that. Or they could do it but it would be no where near as good as this XD
Anyone notice that even the cellist, who looked very serious while Sam was singing, gave a gorgeous smile at looked at Reuben at the piano as if to say 'wasn't he brilliant?' Yes, Ms Cellist, he was!
This is the best live performance of this song by him. He's amazing and I'd love to see him in concert he doesn't need auto tune what so ever and he puts his soul into the songs he sings. I cry with him when I watch this video. Not quite sure who this song was about on passing away but rip to whomever. And they have an angel on earth singing for them. Literally sings like angels coming out of his vocals haha.
He is probably the only singer I prefer to hear live. He's the real deal for sure.
Try Ed sheeran also. Sound awesome live and in studio
do you like Adele, surely you do...
Frank Ocean too
MrMarkpark ed sheran, Adele are brilliant i hope that ed and sam do and album together :(
John Legend!
I saw him live last night in Nashville. He was absolutely breathtaking. How do you sound better live than in a recording. Everyone needs to see him live.
Everybody that sees him live says that he's so amazing and quite humble.I'm seeing him on the 20th in Toronto and I'm very excited!
Angelabez
I completely agree!! I saw him live a few months ago and his voice is unbelievable!!! By far the best singer in the world to see live, and that's not something I'd say if I didn't mean it
I am 55 ! would I look out of place going to his concert with all the younger`s ? He is coming to my town and I would love to see him live.
^^^ no not at all, he's definitely an artist for all ages
October 2022 and I still get chills from this performance. It is iconic. What a gift.
Sam changed NBC and SNL’s social media accounts to immediately include highly received performances and skits with his appearance!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I distinctly remember seeing this live on SNL. I usually always tune out the performers and use that time to get food or go to the bathroom, but the moment he opened his mouth my eyes SNAPPED to the television, mouth just agape. I couldn't believe the sounds coming out of his mouth. I knew he'd be a big deal, and I'm so glad to see him enjoying the success he is.
I was at a buddy's house and snl was on in the background and this voice just immediately pierced the room. It was moving and I'll always remember it.
***** i noticed that too. Its sad to think he feels that way at times.
I like his songs and his voice, the fact hes gay I dont care, i dont feel bad, I just really dont care lol.
he is gay ?
lostreDe LaColonos
yerp
I'm glad that he went to break up because of that i get to hear his voice. Just what a great voice.
He is probably one of the only good artists that sounds just as good live.. I was so shocked when he started singing.
You know, in an interview with BBC 1 he said all his album recordings were done live!
Bruno mars sounds awesome live, As Ed sheeran
babyboijeremy Yes, they are three incredible artists !
right!!! he don't even need auto tune but there is some but not many who are great live
I know!!!He is AMAZING
I dont even have a reason to be sad right now but just hearing all the emotion in his voice has me almost crying.
SAME
This was THE performance that made me 100% sold on the absolute soul of sam smith 6 yrs ago! I just love him so much. I find it rare that an artist sounds this great live!
Literally the same. Randomly watching SNL and I saw this live. Jaw was on the floor.
I can't stop being impressed by his voice.
neither can I
that smile when he finishes and everyone is clapping is so heartwarming.
BlueBird You can tell that he knew what a good job he just did and that his career was about to take off.
Kid literally has angels flying out of his throat! Pure beauty.
must be some wild hiccups
shygirlnow2011 lmao
He's 22 tho
Your metaphor was so expressive! ;)
NLAnstey77 They actually changed the definition of literally to accommodate all of the misuse!
www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/literally
Most beautiful song I've probably ever heard. I remember watching this on snl which is weird because I usually skip the music. This was my face after I saw this = 😦
I can't even explain what this song does to me. It's like he took the words and the melody directly from my heart. I feel this way.
Oh yeah, it's all you, bro. haha
Yes
What you said right there, Ben, took the words right from my heart as well. :)
I definitely agree with what you said
a singer is good when they have that ability
How is this guy even real? I've never heard this song before and he straight up just brought tears to me eyes. Yep, gonna go buy his album right the ef now.
And you won't be sorry you did.
Yeah I can already say I'm not. I've listened to it 3 times all the way through in the past 24 hours and I'm not even tired of it lol
Sara Eddy It's AMAZING!
First song of his I've heard. Hooked. He brought me to tears as well!
and me iits tooo gooddd
love his voice . hes THE best singer i have come across so far !!
Omg.. Chills!!
lol hes hot right ?
Yeah and that voice.. Yum!!
lol
hell yeah he and ed sheeran
I can't say I've ever heard anyone being capable of singing live this good. Gosh Sam, you're a killer.
Bojan Jovic Michael Jackson.......
Adele, Little Mix, James Arthur, Leona Lewis & Bruno Mars to name a few.
Watch the righteous brothers perform live all the way back in the mid 1960s. You'll enjoy it.
Totally agree.
I love this comment, best comment on this video.
You pulled the words out of my mouth. He's such a talent, and you can see how much he pours himself into his music, then immediately he steps away from the mic at the end of the song, and shyly smiles. It's a humble smile I think. He knows he's good, but we know he's great. It's an amazing voice. The range, the tone, it's crazy. Let's just enjoy it. :-)
I was in love with Sam's amazingly insane voice the instant I hear it live on SNL. He became one of my new favorite artists that night.
Yup! Me and hubby rewound and re-played both songs that night over and over. He's really something else. WOW

Well said!!
.
That's right people, it's only wrong to make broad generalizations about race and religion - everything else is fair game. Morons.
I agree. Their music has more substance.
Definitely the male version of Adele and both sing from a very emotional place. Not a single note out of sync.
Agaba Daphine gtfo she doesn't have as good of pitch not even close
Agaba Daphine guilt unholy: '
Adele is good. but not the same level vocally with Sam.
Daymian P Adele is not on the same level? Are you sure about that. We are talking about Adele right. She is a superstar vocalists. Sam Smith is also up there.
Bounty Adams she is very popular and wrote some good songs, but vocally not as good as Sam. Also I dont get impressed by Adele’s singing.
I'm crying
Same😭
Lol so touching right
Kayla
who doesn't
Good to know
This guy is dope. Like his range is fucking out of this world yo. Like I literally replayed this atleast 20 times in a row lol like this dude is incredible. Real music. Beautiful lyrics and melody. I love it.
He did that,
Love the way he smiles at the end. Love Him,
God this is the best live performance of any artist I have ever watched…hit the depths of my soul…all the feels 🥲
His voice is immaculate!! Even better live, dang. I'm currently clicking on all his videos lol. "Stay With Me" is the best song I've heard on the radio for a very long time. His acoustic cover with Mary J. Bilge is amazing.

Yeah, I see it too be a waste of time to be so hateful of anothers preference everyone is different, can't expect everyone to be the same.
Amen! Thats how I feel! He is such a talented ARTIST who cares what his sexuality is. I love to hear him sing!!
Forrest Woodcox Yup! His vocals r amazing!
Forrest Woodcox For the longest time i thought he was straight and the songs he wrote were for a girl since i could relate to them in every way, but when i found out his sexual preference i realized something, it does matter that hes gay, hes proving that love is love regardless of gender...
1:15 causes tears in my eyes. Stunning
And again listening to this. I have searched covers and no-one can surpass his level of excellence. I have yet to see someone comparable.
Kayla Stanley Ed Sheeran covered Sams' 'Stay With Me' it's excellent in a different way! :)
Love them both!
This is still one of my favorite vocal performances of all time. So raw, so emotional, so powerful.
I can actually see the pain in his face when he is singing and I even see his eye water at some point in the video..man you can really tell how genuine he is and that's part of the reasons he is so good, sincerity

WhisperToYourGhost Nothing will stop the promise, the child will always be there. X
I know your comment was 2 years ago but I wanted to say I hope you and your child are doing ok now and you have found the happiness you so deserve. ♥
When I heard his song "Stay with Me" I thought he was black honestly. His voice is really soulful and expresses much emotion. He's great.
don't have to be any specific color to have 'soul'
erock81487 he didnt say that tho
Jerica Darielle He said "I thought he was black honestly". Erock said what he said in reference to that.
erock81487 When I think soul, I think of a big fat black lady singing in church. But, he just said that he had soul, he just assumed he was black.
I remember this night...it was amazing! I had fallen asleep on the couch...and then I heard him singing. I sat straight up and said "who is this?" I had no idea..., but his voice was so beautiful. He was gentle then powerful...amazing control!
I had never heard of him before. Fantastic voice. He knocks everybody on American Idol and The Voice out of the water.
All the people on those shows are looking to be like him not him looking to be lol
SAM SMITH is one of the best discovery in music industry. agree?
of course.
no
chris lens I agree this song makes me cry right now I am crying it is so heart warming to me 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Scary 113 times
because he sings from his pains...
in my opinion by far the best vocal in music industry,fantastic...so talented, beyond believe ... with angelic voice bring you tears and goosebumps
God. He's perfect. From the lowest notes to the highest, the falsettos, it's flawless. And very humble, of course. I can't wait to see you here in the Philippines.
SAM , YOU NEEED
to sing with ADELE =3
THAT WOULD BE AWESOME
verdade
it will be great ♥
I agree
That would be the best thing ever.
that would be 2 unstoppable forces! my life would never b the same!
So beautiful. So pure. SO MUCH CONTROL. SO MUCH EMOTION. The list goes on...
That's one of the most incredible things I've ever heard I my life.
YES!
2 years later and I'm still watching and listening to it. It's amazing.
5 years later and I'm still here. Still my most favourite, powerful, emotional song.
this song really hit you in the feels 😔 amazing and creds to the instrument players too
Thats it nobody cares about the music side the songs its just the artists voice is all they care about.
Miranda Sampson
ania karmina zavala yescas hi belle Ann black here b
Holy shit this guy is amazing, such raw and authentic talent. Really eager for his album to drop, he's gonna take the music industry by storm. Reminds me somewhat of Adele. Pretty sure I'm not the only one who's made that comparison.
First thing I said was that he's a male Adele lol
Joel Cortez
Now imagine the two of them together. Total world domination!
Joel Cortez Meet "Adude."
That's a good point! He is like a male Adele. I've only just heard of him today. Just heard him on the radio, then looked him up on RUclips. Didn't even know if he wrote his own songs or anything about him. I just knew his song blew me away and I had to look him up and listen to more of him.

Dude has an amazing voice. Wow.
2018. Still watch this every time I'm down or need a good cry. Such a powerful and emotional delivery. I remember watching this live and being blown away with both songs
2021 and still watching
Hope you're still watching in 2023
shout out to sam smith for sounding just as good as his tracks live !
Right
Been watching SNL since it's beginning. Now I haven't seen every show, but I've seen a lot of them. I can't think of a better performance. Every. single. note. is. perfection.
For some reason his singing reminds me of Adele its really amazing ♥
Because there is much soul and emotion in his voice. They're both great singers.
I know, there's just so much feeling...Indeed they are. :)
I swear I thought I was the only one omg
Well they are both from the UK. I liked Adele's first stuff more than her newer songs. She's still good though.
Can Adele and Sam make a duet together please??? I swear whatever song they sing will just kill me with their voices omg.
It's very rare now a day's have an artist be this good live on SNL. For sure will go down as one of top live performances on SNL.
I think they sing perfectly on live
Sam smith ,Chris Martin from coldplay and also Dan reynolds from Imagine dragons
This guy should be legendary years to come with that voice and lyrics. Hope he doesn't change.
Omg I so agree... this album NEEDS A GRAMMY
Allow ourselves to feel.. bottling up feelings is not good!
I can't stop crying because his voice it very good!!!
You know a song is good when it makes you cry.
Leela Vidal yes👌
You know it sucks when they try to make you cry and you laugh
If he was singing in a foreign language that I didn't know, just the sound coming out of him would make me cry 😢.
Holy shit! This guy's voice is on another level man, wow!
Thank you so much.
Be strong. He will always be by your side, dear.
So sorry for your loss. Very proud to hear that you have someone by your side and in your heart to preach to you. This song is a very deep and emotional song. You can do this!
I am so sorry. Stay strong. We love you,
Be strong. If you ever need someone to talk to add me on FB. Zonai stewart
"Lay Me Down"
Yes, I do, I believe
That one day I will be
Where I was right there
Right next to you
And it's hard
The days just seem so dark
The moon and the stars
Are nothing without you
Your touch, your skin
Where do I begin?
No words can explain
The way I'm missing you
Deny this emptiness
This hole that I'm inside
These tears
They tell their own story
Told me not to cry when you were gone
But the feeling's overwhelming, it's much too strong
Can I lay by your side?
Next to you, you
And make sure you're alright
I'll take care of you
I don't want to be here if I can't be with you tonight
I'm reaching out to you
Can you hear my call?
This hurt that I've been through
I'm missing you, missing you like crazy
[This verse is only in the album version:]
You told me not to cry when you were gone
But the feeling's overwhelming, it's much too strong
Can I lay by your side?
Next to you, you
And make sure you're alright
I'll take care of you
I don't want to be here if I can't be with you tonight
Lay me down tonight
Lay me by your side
Lay me down tonight
Lay me by your side
Can I lay by your side?
Next to you
You
Every time he sings live it looks like his own voice brings him to tears. Such talent. I will always cherish his music
I couldn't even believe how much this moved me when I watched it on Saturday. I'm so happy this man's music is a part of this world.
His voice SLAYS
His vocal range is bigger than my future
lmao
Even kanye west`s vocal range is bigger than your future
no need to be a dick
that was for cemeh btw
Hilarious!
His voice just strikes you right in the heart.
listening to this song 1000x and counting..what a masterpiece it gives me chills..
I get chills each time I watch this.
There is so much emotion in his voice and you can see the pain in his eyes.
personally, i think his live performances are even better on recorded editions. It has even more emotions and less robotic
My parents didn't sign my permission slip for this feels trip
Deez Nutz lmao yes true
Deez Nutz Cute lol
P sisters
6yrs later it’s still unsigned... 😭❤️😭❤️😭❤️
This man gives me goosebumps every time he sings
The 59 people who disliked this video must have no knowledge of real music, Or what a timeless vocal performance sounds like!
adele and sam smith need to compose a song together...
it would bring the world down to its knees
I agree
Instant world peace
UGH !! I cant stop crying !!! Saammm , whyyyy !???
Alright I'm glad I'm not the only onee!! 😭
Yes in deed
He became a star at 1:15 🥰
I had to go back to 115
There are many different ways to hear a song. This made me think about caring for my beautiful mom while cancer slowly took her away. Maybe it's the words...maybe it's the aching pain in his voice. All I know is that it's beautiful. And made me cry.
I'm so sorry for your lost. I'm sure your mother really appreciated that you were with her till her passing. God bless you.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
That man killed it.. I would like to see him and bruno mars do a song..
Daniel Vaiaoga For Sam Smith it's easy ,but for Bruno I think it is hard to achieve it
Chris Kurzman before Sam Smith Bruno Mars have been killing it with live performances.. and please.. Bruno Mars makes songs that he and Sam Smith can sing...
Chris Kurzman u must be dumb
kukuih The link please of Bruno Mars -Lay me Down ,anyone?
+Chris Kurzman When i was your man
Sam Smith, I never heard of you until SNL, but you have quickly become one of my new favorite musicians to listen to and this right here is my new favorite song.
Flawless from start to end. His smile after the performance is everything =)
His eyes killed me😭😭!!!!!
I really don't understand how anyone in their right mind could dislike this.
Adele should sing with him :D
That would be real dope
Jeramie Johnson Or Ed, Sheeran and Smith would be an amazing sound.
Yes! I was thinking the same.
George Michael, Adele, & Sam Smith would be heaven
I was thinking he's the male version of her so a duet would be perfect!
feels like the you can feel the pain inside the song
My mother passed away on Christmas Day, but I remember in the months before she died that she always wanted to hear "the British guy with the big voice." So, I'd play it. Thanks for that Sam, and congratulations on a great night at the Grammys.
I see his eyes water aww. who else ?
Same, you can tell he really put his heart into this song.
+Rosy salinas he is stoned
absolutely beautiful
Ik I love him so much he is just so kind as a man
he was probably stoned out of his mind. ^.^
Although while Sam doesn't move when he songs, he has such a powerful voice that he doesn't need to be. He's amazing! I've never heard a voice like his! I fell in love with his music, especially this song because it more than fits a situation I'm in right now. I'm addicted!
*Sings o.o lol
listening to this brings back so many memories.
'Can i lay by your side
Next to you, and make sure your alright
I'll take care of you
i dont want to be here if i cant be with you'
Sam Smith will forever be my comfort artist, thank you for helping bond my mother and I. A true undeniable talent.
I love that its just him and 2 instruments. I don't think many singers could do that. Or they could do it but it would be no where near as good as this XD
Anyone notice that even the cellist, who looked very serious while Sam was singing, gave a gorgeous smile at looked at Reuben at the piano as if to say 'wasn't he brilliant?' Yes, Ms Cellist, he was!
jill Birks - I thought I was the only one that noticed.
I bought "la la la" but didn't realise this was the same guy. he's amazing! :D
Gary C :)
Oh my god! He is so fantastic live!! It's so much richer and lovely when he sings it here. I need to see him live!
He doesn't even look like he strains for the notes at 4:01. That's a very polished and trained singer right there
"I'm reaching out to you, can you hear my call?" i'm heart broken..this song is so beautiful. all of his songs are beautiful
I feel an honesty from him, passion in his music
This is the best live performance of this song by him. He's amazing and I'd love to see him in concert he doesn't need auto tune what so ever and he puts his soul into the songs he sings. I cry with him when I watch this video. Not quite sure who this song was about on passing away but rip to whomever. And they have an angel on earth singing for them. Literally sings like angels coming out of his vocals haha.
The Lord has blessed you with an amazing voice wow!
Amen
Yes He did!!
a lifetime's dedication to singing might have something to do with it.
Oh don't start
Drummer1000George Oh don't start
The only male vocalist I've ever heard to can truly stand up to Freddie and George.
That's got nothing to do with it; he's a genius. That's what's important; that's what matters.
Ever heard of Jordan Smith?
Jordan Smith is almost like sam
I love his voice and the old soul he puts into it...
Sam Smith and Adele need a duet!
OMG. I said the same thing!
lol. ikr!
Yes. That's my thinking. He is her male counterpart.
***** O.O Adele is not shit. I bet your hating because, you'll never be able to sing like her.
Yes that would just be heaven ❤️
This song makes me feel some type of way.
👍
You're a bitch cara
it looked like he was crying a bit. But, i freakin love this song!! xD
He said he was an emotional singer
Ohh
+Emma Mills I get like that when I sing emotional songs
Ang Bailey oh. I don't
but everyone is different
