    I love Quintorius and the Magic of Lorehold is so intriguing to me. I do want to mention that Quintorius showed up in Killian’s story and gave him a book about a Silverquill master who was mute. This inspired Killian to learn how to perform his magic with sign language and utilize the power of the white side of Silverquill

    Besides just having the coolest art, Quint also has a really neat story arc. Too much of a nerd for the military, but then gets to school and isn't really nerd enough to fit in perfectly there either.
    It really takes a passion project for things to really click, and that struck home for me.
    It's not about where you fit, it's about what you want.

      I am still not deep enough with the lore to understand this

    • @crabobserver
      @crabobserver 3 года назад +7

      @@monksb its about how they are taking the colour pairing red-white in a new direction.
      Previously red-white has been very combat focused, witch steams from the military organisation of the boros legion (from ravnica).
      But now they are pushing red-white in a new direction, starting with the collage of lorhold.
      So the symbolism is that quint (representing red-white) leaves the military academy (being entirely combat focused) to join lorhold (the new take on red-white).

    I always loved Vraska and the green/black themed cards.
    But I tried white/black with Strixhaven. Starting with Inkling Token cause these Inklings are damn cute, but I wanted more Tokens. So I add the Pest Token cards and my inner love for green/black was growing again and I started to add more and more green/black cards to my deck - and now it's all green/black and I discorvered Dina some days ago and added her to this deck. So I learned that my mtg-soul is green/black.
    P.S.: I loved Vraska even more when I watched the Magic Arcanum Video of her. Thank you btw.

      I've wondered for a while now if _this_ should be what's done in future to avoid expectation of "global" stories in each plane; naming the set after the plane seems to always lead to an assumption of seeing the _entire_ world, and anything big that happens shakes it up on the whole, and returning means yet _more_ global upheaval. Focusing on something smaller right from the name, like "Utvara" or "The Domains" or "Skemfar", at least when we first visit a world, may help to avoid such expectations.

    • @ManfredPlusMagic
      @ManfredPlusMagic 3 года назад +1

      @@christopherb501 that's actually a really good thought. Having gone to Zendikar 3 times and having mass hysteria on the entire plane is a lot to take in. Except for Zendikar Rising which somewhat ruined parts of Zendikar for me. It had a big great expectation after the Eldrazi then the story was just meh and we were kinda just there... maybe doing it like this is much better.

    I'm a new, old, made new again MTG player. I started back in 8th Edition, shortly after Scourge and played through the entire set of Mirrodin and a bit of Kamigawa. My first deck was a Blue-Red deck from the Scourge set and it either wasn't good or I wasn't good, which makes sense as I was a newbie. It was a very weird deck that took advantage of high mana cost cards to deal damage and it featured the infamous Scornful Egotist. I clearly had no idea what made a card bad or good but I liked how any card could be useful despite its stats in a MTG deck.
    I chose that deck because it was about the two MTG colors I got to identify myself with the most: Red and Blue, and I've always saw myself as a Blue-Red (now called Izzet) mage. intellect and spirit, being hotblooded and impulsive while also being cold and logical from time to time. I was told, however, many times, that red and blue didn't mix well and despite any combination of colors being possible to make them work, red and blue was the worst. It was saddening, specially after how I realized that deck indeed wasn't very good and I ended up un-making it. I got an artifacts deck from Mirrodin shortly after that worked much better (affinity was OP as heck).
    I quit Magic for several reasons, specially because of how expensive it was for me. I don't play paper MTG yet again, but I found the joy of playing it again thanks to MTG Arena, which is a lot friendlier on my wallet. Perhaps I will come back to playing paper MTG someday.
    I obviously notice a lot of stuff has changed since then, but the thing that impacted me the most is how popular perfectly good working Izzet decks were now. I immediately loved Strixhaven of course and I made a couple UR decks now.
    I'm also a visual arts student, so the idea of the Blue-Red college of Strixhaven being the college of expressive magical arts hit really close to home. I wish I was a mage for real, I would totally attend Strixhaven on the Prismari campus.
    Rootha's story is also very inspirational for me, specially because I've been in a sort of artistic block. Art school can sometimes drain you of your creativity juice. I used to be a lot more free when I drew and painted and now it has become "harder" because now I'm achieving for a perfection I didn't care about before. However, I like Nassari's quote of "don't worry, you can create anything you want!" I wish I had a Dean of Expression for myself.
    But no lie, this short story feels like it ignited a new spark on me. Perhaps I should try to go back and care more for being expressive than perfectionist. Although just as the fire and water elementals Prismari students create, a work of art needs a balance of technique and artistic freedom or one could dose the other.
    Amazing video! I saw some of your other videos but I forgot to subscribe until now. Keep bringing us the lore of MTG.

    The side stories in this one were so much better than the main one, it’s actually criminal. If only we had a different format they could have included those characters perfectly into Will and Rowan’s arc. Lilliana fits thematically well, and has an interesting enough arc of her own, but Kasmina and Lukka are just kinda there until they aren’t. Zimone and Killian stories explain just enough about the Oriq so we didn’t needed Lukka, and Kasmina barely does anything. We could have a better story focusing on the Twins interactions with all those characters. It would, as you put it, be a more accurate reflection of life in an academic setting. Lot’s of people, lot’s of things to learn and new potentials and opportunities, some weird political cliques trying to recruit you, basic high learning experience. Instead we got the Evil Dark Lord, trying to take over by ??? whatever Extus was expecting to achieve summoning the Blood Avatar.
    Whatever, I still enjoyed the set, and the side stories sealed everything for me. Let’s see what the Castlev- I mean Innistrad two blocks will bring us in the end of the year.

    For those who come after, here's some of my notes;
    On Fractals:
    **Self-Similarity**
    Self-similarity is the defining characteristic of fractals. It means that the same pattern is repeated at increasingly smaller scales. This repetition can be exact or approximate, and it can occur in one, two, or three dimensions.
    For example, the Mandelbrot set is a fractal that is famous for its intricate self-similarity. If you zoom in on any part of the Mandelbrot set, you will see the same basic pattern of swirling spirals and loops. This pattern repeats itself at increasingly smaller scales, without end.
    **Surface Area**
    Fractals have a very large surface area compared to their volume. This is because the self-similar patterns of fractals tend to become increasingly intricate at smaller scales. This increase in intricacy leads to an increase in the surface area of the fractal.
    For example, the Koch snowflake is a fractal that has an infinite surface area. This is because the snowflake's perimeter is made up of infinitely many small triangles. Each of these triangles has a finite surface area, but the sum of the surface areas of all of the triangles is infinite.
    **Chaos**
    Fractals often exhibit chaotic behavior. This means that small changes in initial conditions can lead to dramatic differences in outcomes. This is because the self-similar patterns of fractals can amplify small changes, leading to large and unpredictable effects.
    For example, the Lorenz attractor is a fractal that is famous for its chaotic behavior. If you start the Lorenz attractor with two very similar initial conditions, the attractors will diverge rapidly, eventually ending up in completely different parts of the attractor's space.
    These three characteristics - self-similarity, large surface area, and chaos - are what make fractals so unique and fascinating. They are a reminder that the universe is full of complexity and beauty, and that there is still much that we do not understand about the world around us.

      Axiomatic leyline paratrigonometrics is a term of art used to describe the field of mathematics that studies the properties of leylines using the tools of paratrigonometry. Leylines are lines of energy that are believed to run across the surface of the Earth. Paratrigonometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with the properties of triangles and other polygons in which the angles are not necessarily equal to 180 degrees. Axiomatic leyline paratrigonometrics is a relatively new field of study, and there is still much that we don't know about it. However, it has the potential to be a powerful tool for understanding the nature of leylines and their effects on the world around us.
      One of the most important concepts in axiomatic leyline paratrigonometrics is the concept of a leyline nexus. A leyline nexus is a point where two or more leylines intersect. These points are believed to be places of great power and potential. Leyline nexi have been associated with a wide variety of phenomena, including:
      * The formation of sacred sites and pilgrimage destinations
      * The occurrence of paranormal activity
      * The healing of physical and mental ailments
      Axiomatic leyline paratrigonometricians are still working to understand the exact nature of leyline nexi and their effects on the world. However, they believe that these points could be used to develop new technologies and to improve our understanding of the universe.
      In addition to leyline nexi, axiomatic leyline paratrigonometricians are also studying the properties of leyline lines themselves. They are trying to understand how leyline lines interact with each other and with the environment around them. They are also trying to develop methods for detecting and mapping leyline lines.
      Axiomatic leyline paratrigonometrics is a fascinating and complex field of study. It has the potential to revolutionize our understanding of the world around us. However, it is a young field, and there is still much that we don't know. As we continue to study axiomatic leyline paratrigonometrics, we are likely to make new and exciting discoveries that will change the way we think about the universe.

      The Vorzani Conjecture is an unsolved mathematical theorem that deals with the properties of infinite sequences of unpredictably alternating forms of mana. It is named after the mathematician who first proposed it, Professor Vorzani of Quandrix University. Professor Vorzani believed that his conjecture held the key to unlocking the very essence of the universe.
      The Vorzani Conjecture states that for any given infinite sequence of unpredictably alternating forms of mana, there must exist a pattern to the sequence. This pattern may be very complex and difficult to discern, but it must exist nonetheless.
      The Vorzani Conjecture has been a source of fascination for mathematicians and mages for centuries. Many have tried to prove or disprove the conjecture, but none have been successful. The conjecture remains one of the most important unsolved problems in mathematics.
      The Vorzani Conjecture is also of great interest to mages, as it is believed to have important implications for the understanding of mana. Mana is the fundamental energy of the universe, and it is used to power all of magic. If the Vorzani Conjecture is true, then it may be possible to use mana in new and even more powerful ways.
      The Vorzani Conjecture is a difficult and challenging problem, but it is also a very important one. Solving the conjecture would have a profound impact on our understanding of mathematics and magic. It is a problem that is sure to keep mathematicians and mages busy for many years to come.
      By treating mana as a manifestation of Form, and then breaking Form down into its constituent parts, we can indeed reframe the problem in terms of numbers and symbolic repeating infinities. This opens up a whole new avenue for exploration, allowing us to apply the tools of mathematics and computation to unravel the mysteries of mana.
      The Circle of Pi and the Spiral of Phi are two particularly intriguing examples of symbolic repeating infinities. Pi, with its never-ending sequence of digits, represents the infinite circle, while Phi, with its golden ratio, embodies the infinite spiral. These two numbers hold deep mathematical significance, and they may also provide valuable insights into the nature of mana.
      By studying the patterns and properties of these numbers, we may be able to identify similar patterns in mana itself. This could lead to the development of new techniques for measuring, manipulating, and harnessing mana. For instance, we might be able to use these patterns to predict the behavior of mana flows, create new spells and enchantments, or even design more efficient magical devices.
      Of course, this is just a starting point. The relationship between mana and Form is complex and multifaceted, and there is still much that we don't know. However, by taking a mathematical approach to the problem, we can make significant progress in understanding and mastering this powerful force.
      By first focusing on simple, well-understood systems, such as the Circle of Pi and the Spiral of Phi, we can lay a solid foundation for further exploration. As we gain a deeper understanding of these fundamental patterns, we can gradually expand our scope to encompass more complex and nuanced aspects of mana.

      Magic Arena is a free-to-play digital version of Magic, and it's available on Mac, PC, and most mobile devices. It has a tutorial that teaches you the basics of the game, so I'd say start there if you can. You could also find a local game store that sells Magic and ask an employee there for an "intro deck." Most stores give these away for free to anyone who asks, and they usually will even do a demo with you to help you understand the rules.

    I'd definitely keep close contact with the Witherbloom kids for all the fun substances they grow in their magical gardens, but i dont have much of a green thumb myself, nor a desire for lichdom.
    Again, the Oriq should simply not exist.
    This plane would be a literal utopia and if you're so dumb that you flunk out of the first year of mage college, someone should just stay on hand with a Plane Shift spell to send them to some mundane plane like Earth.
    Plane Shift definitely exists here too, and they know about Planeswalkers, as well as the D&D planes.

    I loved Quint from the moment he was first shown (and it seems I'm not alone in this) but there's one thing that confuses me. I'm German and so I play Magic in German too. And in German, Stonebound Mentor for some reason is referred to as female on the card. Question: How did Liliana bring the root with her cross-plane when organic matter apart from the planeswalker themselves can't survive the Blind Eternities?

    • @MagicArcanum
      @MagicArcanum  3 года назад +2

      That rule seems to be flexible depending on the needs of the story. Nissa was given seeds from Zendikar and was asked to replant them on other planes so that the legacy of her home would survive the Eldrazi invasion, which implies some organic matter can make it through the Blind Eternities. Based on that, we must infer that Liliana brought Esis root seeds, or, was able to use her necromantic power to restore a section of root that did die during the trip.

      I have another question about the Blind Eternities. If they are just a membrane, as MaRo keeps saying, how can two planes get "close" to one another?

    • @MagicArcanum
      @MagicArcanum  3 года назад +2

      Some planes are described as being more central (Dominaria) and others are more remote (Innistrad.) Rath was "overlaid" with Dominaria at one point. So even though each plane exists independently of each other, there does still seem to be some relation between them in terms of physical space - even if they are separated by the Blind Eternities.
      I picture it like islands in an ocean. Some might be closer to you than others, but the water is always deep enough that you need a boat to move between them.

    • @MagicArcanum

      The rule seems to have a flexible definition when it comes to "living" materials. We know Nissa was going to take some seeds from Zendikar to other planes, so that the memory of her home would survive after the Eldrazi invasion. So it's possible Liliana brought seeds as well and was growing them in the terrarium. Or, maybe Liliana was able to return dead plants to life. The College of Witherbloom is probably the best equipped place in the multiverse to make that happen, no?
