These videos are exactly the kind of Suikoden content I’ve been looking to find for a long time. I’ve read all the comments and I guess I’m the only one who thinks Jeane could be an ancient automaton. This would explain, the agelessness, the family with the same face, Koroku seeing her true appearance, her multiple overlapping sounds (circuitry). Think Tio from Grandia 2 but with more of a personality (possibly due to the charm rune).
Glad you like them! One of the reasons I started making these video, is because nobody has been making deep dive and lore discussion videos about Suikoden. I thought it'd promote discussion and get people active about the series again. Now that's an interesting theory. It's pretty farfetched and I'm not sure I believe it, but it's definitely interesting to think about! We've already seen automatons existing thanks to Juppo's creations in Suikoden 1. It's possible that an ancient race of some kind may have constructed far more advanced versions in the distant past. It would help explain the multiple Jeanes theory, as it could explain the bath scene with Lilly where Jeane was being vague about serving in the Dunan army saying she both did and didn't. They could all be connected through some kind of neural network and share thoughts which is why she could recognise recurring characters. It could also explain her strong affinity to the lightning rune, perhaps it's what powers her, but also why she never appears to get tired, or cold or be affected by weather. That's definitely something to think about. I think it might be a bit far out there, but it's a good theory to discuss!
My theory is, Jeane is the bearer of the Rune of Change, the representation of constant change and unpredictability. That would make her the leader of the Sindar. It would fit her too, since she's always seen leaving to another land with every ending of the games. Her constantly 'changing locations' would reinforce that theory that she actually is the bearer of the rune, always on the move, always observant of how change affects the world. If the Sindarians found their 'eternal home' at some point, it would probably be because Jeane chose to shoulder the rune by herself somehow and made sure the rune would only affect her alone.
That would explain why she changed her appearance in Suikoden V. She couldn't risk giving away her connection to the Falenan royal family and possibly expose her connection to the Sindar with Oboro
@@JustLou08 That's definitely a possibility. I've seen quite a few people suggest similar over the years. Though there are potential holes in it. If Fumi Ishikawa is to be believed, and if what she said was true, Jeane doesn't possess a True Rune. The Rune of Change requires constant change and to never settle in an area for too long. She returns to Antei in the Toran Republic after the events of Suikoden II. Then again, on the flip side we don't know how long the Rune of Change allows you to stay in one area before forcing you to move on, or how much time needs to pass before being able to return. If you are even able to return. Being a Sindar doesn't fully explain her connection to or knowledge of the Ancient Armes Dynasty.
That could change possibly (no pun intended). Sasarai and Luc in 2 never revealed that they possessed True Runes (reason being it probably wasn't planned yet or that it was but got cut) until Suikoden 3. Granted, they can potentially hide that fact by simply not using the runes' true power, pretending to only possess the basic elemental runes. Jeane on the other hand... idk how she could be able to hide it. Especially since the Rune of Change doesn't play an active role in the story at all... Another hole in this theory is Eresh from 5. She knows Jeane, probably better than anyone else, and potentially be immortal herself... Its a shame that Murayama is no longer with us.. I would've love for him to expand the Suikoden universe. Konami let the series collect dust for too long, and now its too late. Unless his comrades in R&B studios were to continue what he started, and that Konami would be willing to continue the series after the remasters, there is a very slim chance we may yet to know the whole truth about Jeane...
@@JustLou08. Both Luc and Sasarai mentioned in 2 that they bear True Runes. When Luc unleashes his power during the War Battle against Luca Blight he clearly mentions during his chant "True Rune of the Wind....slay my enemies" And Sasarai answers with "How could my True Rune failed me?"
I've been mulling over Jeane theories for years now and this video has me thinking, with the combination of the statement that "Jeane has many faces" and how she "Has many overlapping pure sounds" according to Suikoden V, I'm speculating that Jeane herself IS a family of Jeanes? As in, she contains multiple personalities within herself? Not sure how this would appear to Koroku, is Jeane effectively a human hydra that the Charm Rune can mask the appearance of? To quote what a hanging ninja in Suikoden II allegedly says "Jeane...you never know..."
That's quite an interesting theory, I've never heard that one before. You do raise a good point about what Rania said regarding Jeane. She may have multiple personality disorder, or she may be the souls of multiple people inhabiting a single body, similar to how Eresh refers to herself as a vessel. It's a fascinating thought and theory!
@@CulganValya Yeah. She's multiple Ancient Armes spirits/ghosts inhabiting a single body, and the thing she forgot in the sarcophagus in Suiko 5 is another Ancient Armes soul. Eresh happens to be either another soul vessel, or a singular Ancient Armes spirit that went out on its own. She's many people, but also one person, and a way for the Ancient Armes civilization to live on after their destruction... Okay, that's my new headcanon.
Oh my frustration when Rikumaru came empty handed 3 times trying to investigate her lol, at the same time I pictured her avoiding him in a very mischievous way lol.
Richmond, Kidd, Oboro. None of them were able to find out anything. Every time you think you're gonna get a tiny piece of information on her, you get more questions instead. I don't know if Jeane would've gotten mischievous, but Rina would've gotten mischievous for sure!
I’ve always considered her a mystery that was never meant to be solved but to provoke fan theories and keep the conversation about her going. Her mysterious nature is what makes her so interesting.
That definitely fits in line with what Murayama said in an interview before. She was designed to be mysterious, and then they crafted dialogue to suit her design. It certainly seems there was never a long term plan in mind, at least initially.
I always thought Jean was a spirit or entity of some kind. Maybe a traveler like the night ship Captain. Yuber or Pesmerga. Whatever she is it's more fun not completely knowing. Def more fun thinking of her as an entity of some kind just going along enjoying herself. Like she's the main character in her own game we are not a part of. What we just she is a few of her many side quests . Plus it's interesting how Zerase dismisses everyone out of hand but not Jean. Treating her like a equal.
I agree. It's definitely more fun not knowing. I think after all this time, any reveal could be a let down for a large number of fans as everybody has branched off into their own theories about her. I'd be okay with the mystery of her origins never being revealed, and only focusing on her potential goals. Zerase treats her an equal. And Leknaat seems to hold Zerase in high regard. A whole bunch of mysterious, powerful mages with youthful appearances treating each other with respect, as equals and in high regard. There's got to be a deep story there somewhere.
An interesting discussion video for the future might be the True Runes themselves. Specifically, the sordid affairs of theirs that have shaped history. Consider for a moment, the Sun and Night Runes. Their story, to me at least, comes off as a rather messy divorce, with the Night Rune abruptly ending the relationship and ghosting the Sun Rune. Small wonder the Sun Rune has been unstable since then, and instills in it's bearer a furious sense of righteousness, of being in the right, of everyone else being wrong; the Night Rune was clearly wrong to leave. If one takes this comparison even further, the Dawn and Twilight Runes would be the Sun Rune's children. Again, small wonder the only entities which can quell the Sun Rune's instability would be it's children. That adds a whole new level to the tragedy of Lordlake as well; what mother wouldn't go on the warpath upon learning their child had been abducted? Arshtat's deterioration since could be attributed as much to the Sun Rune's anxiety over the fate of the Dawn Rune. There's even a question of what role the Star Rune takes in this, as it clearly has some connection, given Zerase's ability to quell the fury of the Twilight Rune when Alenia attempts to wield it's power illegitimately. Then you have the True Runes which may have actually been the third wheel in the birth of certain characters, namely, Chris Lightfellow, and Lazlo. Although I doubt there is legitimate proof of whether or not Wyatt or the Queen of Obel possessed their true runes at the time they produced their children, both of their children have a connection to the true runes. In Chris' case, even if she becomes the Flame Champion, she still has the power to calm the True Water Rune when it goes out of control (not unlike how the Dawn or Twilight Runes can calm the Sun Rune in similar instances). For Lazlo, we see within the Rune of Punishment itself that his mother's place is different from that of past bearers, and Lazlo himself, with the aid of the 108 Stars of Destiny, is able to transition the Rune of Punishment to it's Forgiveness State (another sort of calming of the True Rune, if you will). None of this is even touching on the messy topics of the Blue Moon Rune, the Circle Rune and Hikusaak, Luc, and Sassari, or the conflict between Windy and Leknaat as the survivors of the Gate Rune Clan. Is it not odd that upon Windy's presumed death that her half of the Gate Rune did not reunite with Leknaat's half? Perhaps, like the sisters themselves, the two halves of the Gate Rune have their own, conflicting perspectives preventing them from reuniting. What tangled webs the Runes weave.
I have been thinking about an in depth video on the true runes. The story of the Sun Rune and Night Rune is the most fascinating to me for all the reasons you described. There's so much depth to their story, more so than any other True Rune we've seen so far. We saw the visions of the Rune of Punishment in Suikoden 4, and Ted being able to command the Soul Eater. The runes certainly seem to retain the memories of past bearers, which is why Chris and Lazlo have such connections to their respective runes. That's a great point about Windy and her half of the rune. If she did die, the rune not wanting to unite is an interesting story to be told. Why would it not want to unite? Is it even capable of uniting?
@CulganValya Another great topic would be Bright shield and Black Sword runes, literally named after the gods of creation, why did they split and just what exactly is their combined form called the rune of beginning?
I already have a 20+ minute video uploaded about Viki. I could definitely do a video on Sierra at some point or on some older civilization like the Sindar.
It's possible she's a Sindar, but I don't believe the Jeane is the Sindar leader theory. There's basically no evidence to suggest she's Sindarin at all. The wandering is speculation based on the runes curse, and that's where the potential connection ends. Rania's comments about Jeane having many sounds that are pure and beautiful could mean any number of things. She may not be human, she may not be from this world, she may be a spirit of some kind, etc. There just isn't really enough information to connect her to the Sindar.
I still like to think she's a deity or demi-god of some kind separate from the true runes. Though a physical manifestation of a true rune is also quite plausible. But obviously Jeanne's true appearance without a spell is that of a Mukumuku.
The "thing she left behind" in the Armes Dynasty ruins is clearly supposed to be either Eresh herself, or the unfinished business of killing the boss that dwells there.
Whatever she was doing there accidentally broke the seal, unleashing the boss that was there was an unintended consequence of her actions. Eresh's goal however seems to have been to defeat Shepseska. Jeane is a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
ya kno i do wonder who would end up writing the next suikoden game IF they were to continue it, i mean i don't even think they have notes or anything from murayama, i feel like they'd have to play the games and re-read through all the dialogue n try to come up with new story based off that unless they have some sort of like notes or what not from before they stopped making the series
Good question. I have no idea who will write it, but the director of Suikoden V wants to continue the series. So I imagine he'll be the one taking over and overseeing everything related to the series. He handled V near perfectly, so I fully trust the series in his hands. He'll take good care of it and make sure it's handled respectfully.
@@CulganValya oh im sure he would handle it respectfully, i think im just more curious as to how he'll be able to continue the story, i mean before it made sense since he used to be able to talk/consult with murayama but now thats not something hes capable of doing anymore so im wondering if maybe he has notes or something that lets him know where the story was heading
@@MaximzM I suppose they could always turn to Junko Kawano for help if need be for story related things? I don't think Murayama left anything behind as he said they only had a rough outline and no details were fleshed out. But who knows if those ideas were all used up during 4, Tactics and 5. Or if they were all used up by the time of 3.
@@CulganValya hmm ok so question cuz my knowledge on murayama and junko's relation was/is, is this to say that murayama and junko knew the most when it came to the story? like was murayama talking to junko the most and letting junko know all of his ideas so junko understands the story better than everyone else?
@@MaximzM I imagine she would know more than most. They appear to be close friends. She was a key member of the team on Suikoden 1. She wrote and directed Suikoden 4 and Tactics. She's a co-founder of Rabbit & Bear with him and one of the key devs. I can't say for certain, but I'd take a wild and probably safe guess and say, if anybody knows, she would.
Something that only clicked with me thanks to her S5 appearance was when one time I internally referred to her as "Jeanie" and realized that I basically just said "Genie/Djinni"
Maybe the Armes had the knowledge to halt aging and there were so few survivors, or at least so few who had the rank or status to have their aging halted none of the later civilizations figured out what they could do. If they had ambassadors to other civilization those ambassadors and high ranking members of their staffs or their bodyguards could easily be high ranking enough to have their aging halted and would have been outside the range of the diester that destroyed their people.
That's definitely a possibility. It could've been knowledge of the Armes people, and a gift that was only bestowed to the highest ranking and most important people in their society.
Discussion Video Suggestion: After Genkaku was exiled by the City-State of Jowston, we know he adopted Nanami & Riou. But we never got to hear in the main game explained how that happened or what his and Cunningham's routes were in between, which could have taken Suikoden 2 for me even to more than an 100/10! Never played Suikogaiden, so I don't know if it was explained there?
There wouldn't be much to discuss in the video unfortunately. Nothing of the sort was explained in Suikogaiden Vol 1. That game mostly covered the off screen events of Suikoden 2 up until Highland captured Greenhill. It'd be a short, probably 2 - 3 minute video. We know almost nothing about Riou and Nanami's past. All we know is they were war orphans adopted by Genkaku. Genkaku trained them in martial arts. They had a happy childhood. The circlet Riou wears was bought for him by Genkaku at the first fair (like a funfair) they attended. Genkaku bought Nanami a straw hat at the same fair, but she ate it. Genkaku made Riou's tonfa. And then Riou went on to join the Unicorn Brigade. That's pretty much much all we know about their past. Sadly we don't know any of the finer details beyond those rough points.
After analizing the nature of the true runes it is actualy possible to say that Jean may actually be a living true rune herself. There are many aspects that make this theory possible, like the not only existents of the Star Dragon Sword, but also the consciousness of all true runes, i mean they chouse they host as the lore says, and there is also the Phero Rune what seems to be a weaker version of the charm rune.
That could be possible. Unfortunately we simply don't know enough about Jeane, her abilities, her past, her story, or the nature of the true runes to come to a definitive answer one way or another.
Pesmerga and Yuber. We still know nothing about them or their story, they're very mysterious, but a lot of people love them for their mysterious backgrounds.
@@danielruiz3176 Not exactly. Simeon has lived a long time without a True Rune. She may not be human. There's a few great theories in the comments too. Her age doesn't necessarily have to come from a true rune.
Man I'll tell you what l, she can be hundreds of thousands of years old and as long as she looks and feels like what she looks like...I would have zero cares in the world 😂 She's so drop dead gorgeous. Sadly she probably never hangs around for a family life.
@@emeraldazakite Elves supposedly only live about 1.5 times longer than humans in the Suikoden world, so that would rule out being an elf of some kind. But it's very possible she could be from another ancient race as you say.
@@CulganValya She's a character from a Brazilian RPG / Comic, so I'd figure you wouldn't know LOL, it's a fun reference though - Holy Avengers is really fun!
What if Suikoden has some characters that relate to the idea of the ishtar from lord of the rings. A small grouo of powerful magic users that exist to help to world continue or aome aspect like tht. Im just spitballing a theory. So maybe like Jeanne, Zerase, and whoever else are part of that group
It's a good theory. It's very possible that they could be something of the sort. We don't have enough information on the history or the world, the true runes, or the characters to definitively come to any sort of answer. So until then, let your imagination run wild with possibilities!
Maybe Jeane is some kind of creature like the one who took the souleater from ted and this creature can have a true rune which has the ability to make it have multiple bodies connected to each other by memory link or have a room like Viki where they meet and share information ... i just hope Murayma wrote the Suikoden story some where and left it to someone .. it would be a waste to die before getting to play the Suikoden stories
During one of his interviews with the Suikoden Revival Movement, he said they did have a general outline, but that details weren't fleshed out. At best, a very vague, rough outline probably exists. Or those ideas may have already been used in 4 and 5. We may never know
@@thejmr That's assuming the general outline still exists though. Or that whatever vague unfinished scribbles were jotted down haven't already been used in other games in the series. The director of Suikoden V and the HD Rmaster done an incredible job with Suikoden V. I'd fully trust him to put a lot of care into potential future games and their stories.
I have lots of ideas just can't remember them all atm. How about trying to figure out what true rune 19-27 are. Also maybe if there was a S6 what could we potentially expect and what rune it would be about
That could definitely make for a fun speculation video down the line. A lot of people had some crazy ideas for the remaining true runes over the years.
So a couple of things about the multiple Jeanes thing. First is that you can't really use Murayama's words to disprove Ishikawa's as Murayama has been wrong on record a lot more than her and his comments come almost 20 years after the fact. For instance he's said that the random encounter rate in Suikoden adapts to the player, if you're walking from A - B it will be more lenient and if you're walking zigzags it will be more frequent. This is untrue, there's no such code. He also claims to have provided the voice for Mukumuku in Suikoden II. Mukumuku doesn't make any sounds. I don't attribute this to maliciousness or anything like that, I think he's just misremembering things they planned or wanted to do but never got to and 2 decades later it's all a bit hazy. Point being, him saying that Hugo's dad is some blonde guy could just be the same bad memory so it doesn't really disprove Ishikawa, I think the point he wanted to make was that Hugo's dad is no one important that the fans need to obsess over. But even if it did prove her wrong about that, it doesn't prove her wrong about Jeane. Second being, the official 108 Stars Character Guide has a comment on Raura's page where it states あのジーンは幼なじみです。 "She's a childhood friend of THAT Jeane." which is very specific phrasing. While nothing is conclusive, there's always the possibility that during the development of Suikoden II the plan for Jeane was for her to one of many but they changed their minds around Suikoden III or IV. And on a personal level I don't really agree that Jeane and Viki's bath interactions in IV and V suggest that Jeane knows her, I find them ambiguous at best but that's just my personal opinion. Also even if it's the same Jeane through 1 - 3 that doesn't actually disprove that everyone in her family looks the same. Both can be true. And lastly is just the usual wariness to trust the localization of Suikoden III, as that game has managed to translate ".........." into speeches. While I cannot say for absolute certain that it is wrong here, I wouldn't want to use it as a source without double-checking the original. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I find your evidence less conclusive than you do. I also really don't buy the idea of "she hid her True Rune from Lily" because it would make the whole scene utterly pointless. It's essentially saying "Hey, look! Jeane doesn't have a True Rune!" only to then go "Psych!" for no reason other than to troll players for some weird reason. I'm also unable to come up with any other instance where the games have outright lied to the player like that. I find it unlikely, we can only go by what the games tell us, if they're intentionally lying to us we can't even do that.
Honestly, my big take away from this is that neither of them are reliable sources of information and anything that either of them have said in interviews should be viewed with some scepticism and not taken as a fact. Especially now that Takahiro Sakiyama seems in charge of the series. I'm not 100% certain on this and maybe you could verify it? But the Suikoden TGS page on Konami's website lists him as the Suikoden IP & Game Director, while the director is now being listed as Tatsuya Ogushi, and if that's true and he's now heading up the series, he may have his own ideas going forward if the series is to continue. That's true. Murayama may have misremembered the details, but he also may not have. We don't know. But I do agree about the point that Hugo's dad is no one important. That's always what I've thought about it, that the dad was some unimportant, unnamed Karayan. Interesting detail about Raura, I wasn't aware of that! Thanks for letting me know. We don't have to agree. It's all good. You do bring up a lot of good points. Though I do state multiple times in the video that things were either "open to interpretation", or "the impression I got", rather than ever saying anything was conclusive, as there isn't any conclusive evidence. I try to avoid ever saying anything is conclusive. Would it necessarily make the whole bath scene pointless? Isn't one of the mysteries of Jeane that she's hiding her true appearance? By not revealing it, she'd simply be keeping up the charade, which is staying true to her character. And let's say on the flip side, if Lilly did discover something, wouldn't revealing her true identity in a bath scene be anticlimactic? Not that I believe she has a true rune, I don't believe it at all, but merely pointing out that, no matter how unlikely it may be, it can't be 100% ruled out.
@@CulganValya I'm not entirely sure what the difference between a Director and a Game Director is in this context but that seems to be the case with Sakiyama, it's possible that was always his title once the Remasters got underway and people just left out the "Game" part. I've always assumed when people say Game Director they don't want to be confused with a Film Director but they list both here. They could also have more than one producer, Daikai may not have been replaced as producer as much as just not being able to be there for this TGS and they sent another one, Naito seems to have had some involvement with other Konami collections at least. I was trying to look up exactly what Ishikawa said about Hugo's dad, cause I have a vague recollection that she didn't actually outright say he had black hair, just that the black in Hugo's hair came from his dad and then people assumed he must have black hair. It may seem like a distinction without a difference, but suppose Hugo's dad has the same type of hair as Hugo, mostly blonde with black highlights or whatever you want to call it, that would make both statements true. But I can't find the original quote so I might have imagined it. There's just too few details to really do anything with Jeane, even if "there's more than one Jeane" is true it doesn't actually answer the question about how it actually works. Clones? Illusions? Does the Charm rune turn the bearer into Jeane like with Ernst? Who knows, even if there's more than one that's only a tiny part of the mystery. The fandom just has a tendency to take tiny snippets of vague statements, make assumptions and run with it. Just look up Tenjik on the wikia. The only thing ever said about it is Kidd saying "that's really far away" in his investigation on Estella and somehow that means it's a country when it could be a city, village, monument, landmark or particulary interesting rock formation. Also ignores that it's most likely just another reference to Journey to the West that doesn't even exist, Kidd isn't a particulary good detective and in Japanese the wording is that it was Estella that said it was far away and Kidd seems to never have heard of it before. As for the bath scene, yeah I do think it would be kinda pointless and I think if it was the reverse the bath scene just wouldn't exist instead of revealing it there. Though I suppose the question you could ask is does Lily even know what all True Runes look like or how was she planning to tell the difference between a rare one, like Dawn or Charm, and a True one? It probably shouldn't be overanalyzed too much and just be taken at face value.
Another time traveler like viki maybe? 😂😂😂 But not careless as viki as well every ending "Get drunk and accidentally teleport her somewhere" But every time she appears she still a hot babe 😂😂
You're statement on how viki does not remember lauralai in suikoden 5 when they fought together in 1,2 and 3. Well thats because Suikoden 5 takes place few years before Suikoden 1, but Viki knowing of Jeanne because of suikoden 4 is that suikoden 4 takes place many many years before the others.
Suikoden 5 taking place earlier is irrelevant. Viki's timeline doesn't fully follow the timeline. We don't fully know what order she experiences half of the games in. In Suikogaiden Vol 2, which takes place between Suikoden 2 and 3, Viki travels back in time with Nash, Meg and Millie to before the events of Suikoden 5. She teleports into the Deep Twilight Forest ruins and in the ruins they meet Lorelai and Killey. And also in Suikoden 5, Lorelai and Viki have a bath scene together where Lorelai confronts Viki about being the one who rescued her, but Viki denying it. Suikoden 4 might take place first in the timeline, but that doesn't mean Viki experienced it timeline wise. Her first encounter with Jeane may have been far in the future, and her encounter with Jeane in Suikoden 4 may be one of her later encounters. Viki's timeline is completely out of whack. She time travels all over the place and doesn't experience the timeline as anybody else. I have a deep dive video into Viki's timeline uploaded and her timeline is full of holes and contradictions.
@@CulganValya I know that was kind of a shit post on my end but I do stand by it. Mysterious woman is a large rpg cast requirement. Like lecherous old martial arts instructors or elevator stages in a beatem’ up. At least this is less confusing than the whole Anna in fire emblem debacle. Even with multiple timelines and time travel her family makes no sense.
I don't think Viki wields a True Rune, she just uses teleport magic, and she is so careless that when she sneezes she teleports, and that's all. Viki is more like a comedic relief.
Viki is unlikely to bear a true rune. She just teleports through time, but she also has some mysterious house she sometimes teleports to in between time travelling. A house that is filled with doors leading to different places and time in the Suikoden world. Why Viki doesn't appear to age between games is a mystery. It was actually Fumi Ishikawa (the character designer) who said that Jeane doesn't bear a true rune. But Fumi Ishikawa has been wrong about Hugo's dad, and she jokes around a lot during interviews. She may not have been telling the truth.
@@CulganValyai think thats why Viki doesnt age. like Loki who gets himself through different times, Viki stays the same. she doesnt go old enough due to her time-journeys
I don't think its a trinklet that grants her agelessness. The lore 28:43 says only true runes grants that, a part of her race or being a vampire. But I think its a true rune and/or her race. She's evading the question on why she doesn't age.
But we've seen other cases of agelessness that don't involve True Runes. Simeon from Suikoden Tactics is very old, but appears youthful. He doesn't have a True Rune. Viki hasn't aged at all in any of the games, and to our knowledge, she also has no True Rune. Eresh is another character that appears to be extremely old and also doesn't appear to have a True Rune. Crowley and Mazus were pursuing the power of a true rune, without using a true rune. They also may have discovered how. I don't recall anywhere in lore stating that True Runes are the only way to gain agelessness, just that they do grant agelessness. Clearly there are other methods of extending ones life in the Suikoden world such as vampirism, though no evidence whatsoever exists to suggest Jeane is a vampire of any kind. And as mentioned above, many mages have pursued, and some appear to have accomplished achieving agelessness, or at least how to extend their life.
One question is also if the writers over the games f'cked up with the story, Sindar connection possibly? But then the Armes in Suikoden 5? Where they even hinted at in the older games? Many writers, many curve balls and potential mess ups in the story.
There was no mention of the Ancient Armes Kingdom before Suikoden 5. But there was also no mention, links or connections between Jeane and the Sindar either. Only speculation that her wandering is related to it, but no evidence to suggest a connection.
Isn't suikoden 4 chronologically before suikoden 1 and 2? I could have sworn it took place before them, not after, so Viki wouldn't have known Lorelei since they haven't met yet, right?
Yes, Suikoden 4 is 149 years before Suikoden 1. But when I was talking about Lorelai, I was referencing Viki's letters in Suikoden 5, which she talks about both Lorelai and Jeane in them. Lorelai had met Viki prior to the events of Suikoden 5. During Suikodgaiden Vol 2, Viki travelled back in time to before the events of Suikoden 5 where she met Lorelai and Killey. We also don't know what order Viki is experiencing some of the games in. She goes from 1 > 2 > and then to either Suikogaiden 2 or Suikoden 3, that part is messy as her appearance in Suikogaiden 2 and Suikoden 3 contradicts each other. We don't know when she experiences 4 or 5, and there appears to be off screen encounters with her and Jeane.
@@nahrubish I don't think he even knew what the storyline was going to be. By his own admission in an interview with the Suikoden Revival Movement in 2016 they had a general outline, but no details were fleshed out. He wasn't involved in 4, Tactics or 5. 4 was a bit of a mess, but 5 was incredible. And Takahiro Sakiyama, the director of Suikoden 5, is now in charge of the Suikoden series.
I think the 'A' pronunciation you're hearing is from mishearing my accent. I'm actually saying 'O' there, there's just not much emphasis on it. It's just an accent thing.
I mean... it is pronounced like "sue-ee-ko-den". Though most people just pronounce it as "sue-ko-den" Heck, I say it that way sometimes still. The way he says it is fine.
@@CulganValya Not trying to be a dick about it. It's very common when I watch a YT video about this series but after 24 years in Japan, even tiny vowel changes or syllable condensing will set me off. Trust me though if we were in a room together and you heard me pronounce it, you would instantly be like "OHh ok I get it." That being said, I'm certainly not demanding that you change how you say it. This is just a "me" thing. I heard it in a way that differs from how I want it to be. Then for some reason I decided to make a comment.
Love Suikoden but really hate how over sexualized the character design for Jeane got as the series went on. The tits bikini thing from Suikoden 5 was just gross
I've never been too worried about her origins as I just assumed she was fitting a trope and given not a main character, her background was never going to take precedent anyway. I think she's attached to an ancient civilization, yet no deity or figure like her appears, so she has to be a person that discovered immortality (you pointed out Simeon which supports the case), her rune allows it for some reason/uniquely or it's a enchantment that makes her appear that way and she's really old looking. I would be surprised if they do have an actual origin for her. I do feel it's possible in that world other means of immortality or aging very slowly is possible. It does seem plausible given she doesn't have a true rune and they'd have to bend rules for her immortality, all women could appear the same. However, the rune itself implies enchantment. It just makes too much sense she is hiding her real appearance and fits how she dances around answering questions intentionally and in part developers fueling it themselves. Removing her from series takes out key fan-service and a great magic character. She ain't leaving no matter. I do wonder however if there isn't a dimension or place like Vicki they go to. It just seems like Jeane would be recognized over the decades across the world or some place at least thrice. If doesn't stay in one place long and the world isn't that big, the chances of her being recognized along with same name is high. It can only be she goes elsewhere between games and reappears for events of history, but that last part is pure speculation. Otherwise, devs can't be considering her immortality that meaningfully.
I feel the same to be honest. I'm not too concerned about her origins. I'd like to know about her origins, but I feel like her origins aren't as important as what her potential goals or objectives are. I don't think they ever planned out an origin for her, they created her for the sole point of being mysterious. Murayama said in an interview that they designed her to look mysterious, and then afterwards came up with dialogue to reflect that. It feels like there never was an actual plan outside of "mysterious and sexy." But it certainly gives the new team creative license to go in any direction they want to should they continue the series, or the director the opportunity to continue the story tidbits he dropped in 5. It doesn't appear likely she has a place she goes to in between games. After Suikoden 2 she returned to Antei in the Toran Republic, this was stated in her ending at the credits. But how long did she stay in Antei? Who knows. Her next sighting was in Brass Castle 15 years later. Did she stay in Antei for 15 years? For a couple of years and then started traveling? It's anyone's guess.
@@CulganValya I think she just disappears, isn't that typically what her ending screen says? She's always moving, likely because she has a secret goal and to reach that goal she joins an army under a Tenkai Star. There's potential for her to be massively important to the overall plot of the true runes.
To be honest, that makes sense too. There are moments that I think that Viki and Jeane are in every game just as an inside joke. And that in the case of Jeane nothing will come of it (well, I find very unlikely another Suikoden happens even if the Remasters are successful, so that's pretty much the case).
@@SeventhheavenDK They were both designed with the intent of being mysterious. To be honest, I don't think there was ever an actual plan for either character beyond being mysterious.
I think the game mechanic is different from what is lore. I'm not sure they were going to give Viktor's sword that much consideration that would effect how it's handled beyond a normal weapon. The rune didn't take on that form by choice seemingly, given how much it complained about it. I think someone could sense Jeane being a True Rune by now and which one would that be? She could act in similar capacity as Leknaat has, but has avoided death and the rune passing on. I also believe no one has gone after her for any reason for her rune/herself as true rune would suggest while mysterious, doesn't effect things that much. My real question is how True Runes incarnate and machinations behind that. Her incarnation just may be befitting of it's nature. Or it was only considered after the fact when she was already created and retroactively fitted.
It's quite likely that it's simply a game mechanic and they didn't think beyond that, but the fact that it exists, and that it can be done means we can't rule it out as a possibility. No matter how unlikely it may be. The Sovereign Rune manifesting as the Golden Hydra was Barbarosa transforming. The True Wind Rune becoming a giant bird appeared to be merging with Luc's soul (Luc's own words before the battle). The Sun Rune absorbed Marscal Godwin before manifesting as a moth, you see him vaporise into little green specs and get absorbed into the rune before it transforms. The Beast Rune manifested from a blood sacrifice from Luca sacrificing the citizens of Muse and then being awoken by Leon slitting his hand open. So it appears a true rune requires either a host to merge with, or a sacrifice of some kind to manifest or incarnate. As for the Star Dragon Sword...no idea. Off the top of my head, I don't think anything was ever revealed about that. But considering it has a face on its hilt, and it can talk, I wonder if it was a merging with a vampire hunter?
I was wondering why her hair was pink in V. Seems silly they needed to change it because no one would be confused thinking she's part of their family. It being a genetic trait of that one family across the world is harder to believe. I wouldn't lean on Fumi being wrong so heavily either as if she's unreliable. If she had no knowledge of the lore I'd think she'd admit this and not speak on it or be corrected by creator. Neither may have a real answer for Hugo's father and both are just based on his hair having two shades. That doesn't make any sense genetically for that to be what shows one is mixed race, but Japan is odd in that anyway. I really don't think there is an internal answer beyond Jeane is like the other True Rune bearers or powerful mage that more miraculously has survived every conflict involved in. I do think it's odd she is never considered a threat in the lore considering how powerful she's suggested to be.
I think its because of the falenan royal family. If I remember correctly having silver hair in the royal family is proof that you're a part of the royal family.
@@molly2190 That's what he said in the video, but Jeane's is white from what I believe, not silver. The art doesn't convey it, but in-world they should be able to tell the difference. I think it was just a conscientious choice on team's part, but unnecessary.
It was probably a decision made to avoid confusion with new players. I think the vast majority of people would've realised she's not a member of the royal family. I agree it's an unnecessary change, but they decided to play it safe. I agree not to rely on her being wrong so heavily, but she is unreliable as a source of information. Murayama contradicted her about Hugo's dad and she spends interviews joking around. She might be telling the truth, she might not be, but we can't take her word as absolute fact. We probably should apply the logic of real world genetics to the hair colour either. It's a video game, anything goes.
@@CulganValya You could easily come to the conclusion that she changed her hair color herself when entering Falenia, she knows the royal family all have silver hair and actually we don't even know what Jeane looks like so maybe she doesn't even have silver hair and all depictions of her are just an illusion. All she would have to do is hear about a silver haired royal family and tweak her spell for pink hair instead.

why the fk does remaster games cost more than new games lol
@@CulganValya mmm good point.
Also, what's her relationship with Eresh?
@@JustLou08. Both Luc and Sasarai mentioned in 2 that they bear True Runes.
When Luc unleashes his power during the War Battle against Luca Blight he clearly mentions during his chant "True Rune of the Wind....slay my enemies"
And Sasarai answers with "How could my True Rune failed me?"
My favourite character.
There's so many mysteries in this game series or stories that haven't been told. I wish they would continue...
Agreed! There's way too many unsolved mysteries and far too many untold stories in the Suikoden world. We need the series to continue.
@@CulganValyathat Rina girl. we know what she did lol
Love this kind of suikoden content, thanks for a great vid!
Appreciate the kind words! I'm glad you enjoy it!
So disappointed that we never found the truth about her. She was and still one of my favorite characters in the series
There's still hope. If the HD Remaster sells well, the series has a good chance of getting a new entry.
I'm not, mystery's like these are best not being answered and only hinted at.
She is like Viki, playing Suikodens in her own order. While Jeanne play them in chronological order, Viki play them randomly 😅
@@nworder4life That's a story I could definitely cover in the true rune video 🙂

Please more of this i love suikoden disscusion and Trivia , would live about vikki or sierra or old tribes and so on
I already have a 20+ minute video uploaded about Viki. I could definitely do a video on Sierra at some point or on some older civilization like the Sindar.
jeane is the sindar leader. rania could sense many sound on her. a person typically has 1 sound.
Jeane being an immortal martial artist squirrel would be the greatest twist ever. I love Mukumuku and the other squirrels.
so Jeane when alone is munching on acorns? xD

She's the Suikomommy for sure.
Something that only clicked with me thanks to her S5 appearance was when one time I internally referred to her as "Jeanie" and realized that I basically just said "Genie/Djinni"
That's a thought for sure. When it comes to Jeane, anything is a possibility.
some possibilities:
1. someone made her immortal by spell or anything
2. she hid her true rune mark
3. she is not a human
All very plausible possibilities!
Her Rune of Charm isn't a true rune?
@@TheAyme83i think not. so many unique runes were not parts of the True Runes.
The way Eresh and Jeanne for that matter talk in Suikoden 5 makes me think they're both spirits of some sort.

Discussion Video Suggestion:
After Genkaku was exiled by the City-State of Jowston, we know he adopted Nanami & Riou.
@CulganValya Yeah that's a shame, but thanks for explaining that part of the lore. 😁
Krin is the most mysterious character in the Suikoden series, checkmate
I wonder if any Krin fanfic exists like that Lepant and Mathiu nightmare fuel you found before.
Unfortunately we simply don't know enough about Jeane, her abilities, her past, her story, or the nature of the true runes to come to a definitive answer one way or another.
one more character that is full of Mistery is Pesmerga and his counter part forgot his name
Pesmerga and Yuber. We still know nothing about them or their story, they're very mysterious, but a lot of people love them for their mysterious backgrounds.

@CulganValya if they ever reveal all 27 true runes I'm going to get them all tattood for a bet I made years ago lol
Melisandre from GoT
Another time traveler like viki maybe? 😂😂😂
But not careless as viki as well every ending
"Get drunk and accidentally teleport her somewhere"
But every time she appears she still a hot babe 😂😂
So she’s just Blu from breath of fire. That feels super odd in a generation spanning epic but not unreasonable.
Could possibly be, yeah. She's who knows how old, far more powerful than she lets on, and refusing to divulge any details about herself.
I believe she and viki is the wielder of the true rune
I don't think Viki wields a True Rune, she just uses teleport magic, and she is so careless that when she sneezes she teleports, and that's all.
Viki is more like a comedic relief.
About Jeane, it's unknown, the creator said Jeane didn't bear a True Rune, so who knows 🤷🏻♂️.
@@CulganValya perhaps its in her race. Nobody knows what her race, where she came from, Eresh ain't talking and she's very secretive about her life.
whatever Jeane belongs to, it wouldnt be the Vampire.
Sierra or Neclord would have known her.
what if Jeane IS the leader of the Sindaar?
One question is also if the writers over the games f'cked up with the story, Sindar connection possibly? But then the Armes in Suikoden 5? Where they even hinted at in the older games? Many writers, many curve balls and potential mess ups in the story.
There was no mention of the Ancient Armes Kingdom before Suikoden 5. But there was also no mention, links or connections between Jeane and the Sindar either. Only speculation that her wandering is related to it, but no evidence to suggest a connection.
@@CulganValya Yes, this is a problem when we get many different writers to a product and no set timeline or anything.
Jeane and Leona is my Waifu in Game.
Is there any suikoden similar game in mobile
@@Lj-vf8cq I have no idea. I don't play mobile games, but if there is I hope someone can let us all know.
Suikoden is finished.
I will never see the whole 27 true runes
Not exactly. The Suikoden I & II HD Remaster comes out next year, and if that sells well there's a good chance they'll continue the series.
@CulganValya I don't think maruyama told Konami his storyline for suikoden series.
I made a fanfic where Jeane was actually Terra Branford from Final Fantasy 6.
In my defense, this was before Suikoden 3 came out.
Begins watching video.
00:00 Me: "Please don't say 'Sweekaden' in this video.
00:04 Me: "gdi...." (continues listening in the background anyway)
It was a bit much and definitely went over the line into bad gratuity.
Suikoden 3 had her best look IMO, followed by 2. 5 is definitely the worst.
Jeanne is for Men of Culture
Jeane, Leknaat & Viki! ❤
@@nworder4life Jeanes endings are usually her returning to her rune shop.
