Something haunting about this song, I guess it's the lyrics and melancholic melody...really takes me back to an era where life and happiness were simple.
Well something about reminds me of 1986, I was only 4, but remember hearing this in the car, my mom was driving and it was raining, here in Southern California in the Spring of 1986, there was a lot of rain.
Reminds me of the 1980’s, when things were simpler. Take the words away from the song also, and I’m now older… my parents recently passed away, the music is now so surreal now to memories
Just another reminder of how great the 1980s were for music. This song came out in 1985 and it sounds even better today than when it was released all those years ago
I can't agree more! The 80's were a bitter-sweet time in my life. In my 20's and held the world in my hands and didn't even know it.... but I did follow my passion and fulfilled a dream!
Great song! “No pride, taken for a ride” ouch! This song is a great reminder why it’s best to be alone if with the wrong person. No need to be lied to!
My biggest problem is having a hard time accepting when i am not wanted. But im learning how, i am finally ready to syop begging people to care about and love me I know Jesus loves me, and i know it hurts him when i get hurt so bad from making a fool of myself, and not trusting that he has somrone forme who will love mé
Life has its own way of bringing you back to your senses. Just a minute ago, I was feeling so terribly sad, missing some people who used to be so close to my heart. I thought that all they have showed were really sincere, unfortunately none of it was. Then this song came in to my head playing so I took time searching for it and got here. Oh yeah, better off alone than be left out with nothing but disappointments..
For some reason I feel Foreigner ripped off this song on their hit "I Don't Want To Live Without You" (which honestly was never one of my favorite songs and I sadly had the misfortune of hearing that song before I've heard of "Taken In").
One of those powerful songs I experienced on my clock radio in the middle of the night that awakened my soul to what passion for life and love of another person truly means. No fairytales here, just the purist of honesty. The song speaks to the search of making more out of love for that one special person. Accept nothing less than finding out how far love can go.
My wife and I were 80s teens. I read your comment to her. The clock radio in the middle of the night. The awakenings we had. Wonderful. Really. It brought us back.
i was 17 when this came out. im 48 now. then my wife came along wiped away all the tears ive ever shed from being "taken again". made me believe again in love. i can always listen to this and smile because of her. love you hunny for making it all better.
I always loved this song! It's so true when we get drawn in by people who can't love and respect us because they don't love or respect themselves. True lyrics and beautiful melody, painful as it may be....
One of the tragedies of life when one falls into this trap. But you'll never get the other person to look in the mirror. They'd rather destroy you than face themselves.
That’s why songs like this were created , for those who need to know what being “ taken in “ even is. You can be blind as a bat with 20/20 vision , unfortunately one’s heart has no eyes to see , but the heart ♥️ & mind 🧠 can work together when they want to 😉 which creates for- sight 👀
One of my go to songs when I want to look back and rationalize where I've been. Good friends are now gone, no ones taking me for a ride, My friends expect me to hold it together, least I can do is make them proud, owe them that.
That’s because you haven’t found unconditional love yet. Love does not exist without vulnerability. And that vulnerability is what bites you in the ass every time. Go read or listen to all of Dr. Brene’ Brown’s books or videos. Good luck my friend. 4:14
love the lyrics, love the feel, love the fade at the end. this was a song for heartbroken lovers if ever there was one. hence it will never go out of style.
Ouvindo essa música linda me lembro do meu saudoso avô,da minha infância,ia todos os dias na sua casa ouvir um LP que tinha essa música, isso fica marcado pra sempre na nossa memória
She was the One, and we were so in love. We thought we could take on the world, but it was the wrong time for both of us. Been almost 35 years, and the scar is still there....
1986 definitely had a bunch of meaningful music you're talking about. Along with "Taken In", there was Double (or Doo-blay, as they pronounced it) with "The Captain of Her Heart", "Human" by the Human League, "Tender Love" by the Force MDs, Patti LaBelle & Michael McDonald's "On My Own", Bruce Hornsby and "The Way It Is", and my guys Genesis with "Throwing It All Away". Memorable, smooth, & unforgettable music.
GREAT song, but its melancholy sound and sad lyrics cut to the heart of me. Hard to believe that in one year from the date of this post this song will be 30 years old. Time passes so quickly. I lost so much at the time this song was first released and I would hear it on the radio every night when I couldn't sleep and would just go for night drives to try and calm my emotions, but this song just crushed them even further. I am not criticizing the song, I am saying that it is so well-written and performed that it evokes REAL emotion, especially after almost 3 decades later and I still feel the loss from then. It seems to just chase me through the years. Okay, I'll stop with the rambling.
But, Al, you made it through. The pain is over, unless you seek it out just to try and re-feel it. Why do that? Way too much in the world for you to be happy about, like making a new friend, meeting a neighbor you never spoke to before, saving money for something good, etc.....I love the song too but as I look back on painful times, I feel the good feeling of nostalgia, because whatever that thing was, it doesn't hurt anymore.
ruth burkleo I'm glad you also can understand. Another person or two here doesn't completely understand, but I do appreciate the upbeat words and encouragement. I don't seek it out. It is just that sometimes I want to hear something that takes me to a time that made me humble and more in touch with the reality of the human condition and keep me more grounded and compassionate toward others. Nothing wrong with that. I actually hadn't heard this song in more than 20 years and I happened to run onto it here on YT while seeing and hearing other great music videos from the 70's and 80's. Great stuff. 😊
Another great hit song just love it. Yes were all taken in again and again and fair weather friends just come and go. Are we really the only ones in someones life just don't think so. Oh I understand completely that noting ever changes when it comes to love and deceit. Were all taken in aren't we just wrap your life around love and wow baby wow. I don't believe it when you say that you are mine like I said I don't believe it. What a great song can listen to this again and again. Love the Mechanics and their videos.
ONLY ONE YOU CAN EVER TRUST COMPLETELY IS YOURSELF, PEOPLE COME AND GO, IF YOUR REAL LUCKY YOU FIND THAT SOUL MATE THAT LOVES YOU MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF, THEY WILL SHOW IT EVERY WAY EVERYDAY, YOU WILL BE THEIR SHINING LIGHT, WHAT THEY LIVE FOR, THAN YOU CAN CONSIDER YOURSELF BLESSED, WE ALL DESERVE ONE.
Just listen to me..... every single one of us has or will play the fool at some point in our lives. if broken dreams and hearts were commercials we would all be on television. believe me.....you are not the only one that has been hurt.❤️
This is a song and a half it rocks on those were the days cant believe its over what a time got my braces on shortly after that song im 46 now where did the time go God bless
Essa música me dá uma paz espiritual muito boa, sempre que eu sinto saudades do Brasil escuto ela no quarto escuro e me vejo lá no Ceará com minha família e meu amigos!
Cuántos recuerdos!!! Es una canción que combina a la perfección lo sensual con lo nostálgico. Es de mis favoritas. Amo ésta canción. I wish i could believe you...
Doobie1975 This Paul Young (formerly of Sad Cafe, died in 2000, not to be confused with the Paul Young who sang Everytime You Go Away) and Lou Gramm sound very much alike.
This song ALWAYS makes me smile & feel happy. Miss you Paul Young. Great pop band. Wish i could've saw them live at the time. 🎤🎙️🎹🎼🎵🎶🎸🥁. Mike Rutherford, Adrian Lee, Peter Van Hooke & Paul Carrack. The classic original lineup.
Wow, one of my favorites songs for the kind of sensations the chords with the bass, the sax the beat the chorus create together, wooow! Thanks so much to Mike and the Mechanics for compose it and for share it ❤
This song reminds of the 80's when I was younger just beginning going thru life so ambitious and nothing of today was evidable to the mind....None of this garbage of hostility....Going to p\Pittsburgh and getting my first apartment all alone in a strange city...getting a roommate til this day don't know where he is or if he's alive still....I was so young and paying only 265 a month for a condo...I wish I could go back....Broadway Ave, in Pittsburgh in this corner building which looks like a old building on the outside and inside was just being renovated...No money really to decorate my apartment but had a boom box listening to the lost boys soundtrack loud enough to get complaints from my downstairs neighbors.
Something haunting about this song, I guess it's the lyrics and melancholic melody...really takes me back to an era where life and happiness were simple.

"There's one born every minute, and you're lookin' at him." Hoo boy what a lyricist.
My dad used to play this song back in the 80's in his '87 Firebird when I was 8 and I've been looking for it ever since.
I REALLY love this song... and I can’t put in words how much I love it
Remember this song from the summer of '86. MTV was worth watching and this got radio time..precious
There's only a certain person who's a certain age that will get this very special song.
Wow 1986!!
I love this post!
I don't remember this song but I sure remember All I need is a miracle from the same album in 85'. This song is very pretty though
me too.
Omg... I had been searching for this song. I heard this song for the first time on Pandora (Double station). It's now on replay.

Your so right...rather be alone than with someone with hidden agenda and a calloused n selfish heart....
God, I love the synth dreaminess ethereal sound of this song! Reminds me of I’m Not in Love by 10cc but with that 80’s twist. Beautiful
For some reason I feel Foreigner ripped off this song on their hit "I Don't Want To Live Without You" (which honestly was never one of my favorite songs and I sadly had the misfortune of hearing that song before I've heard of "Taken In").
Also like 'Captain Of Her Heart' by Double.
@@Doobie1975 Well that could possible being they were both on Atlantic Records at the time.
@@mattschneider6773 I ❤ That Song 🎶
SIII...TODA LA RAZON...!
This singer has amazing subtlety in his voice; it's on full display in this song.
Paul Carrack. Underrated.
@@mattschneider6773 this one was actually Paul Young. Both him and Paul Carrack shared lead vocal duties for Mike and the Mechanics.
The 80's had the best songs..... and the best use of the sax...

Mr. Price well said
Couldn’t have put it better, bring me back to the summer of 1986.
My wife and I were 80s teens. I read your comment to her. The clock radio in the middle of the night. The awakenings we had. Wonderful. Really. It brought us back.
Cool song, I was only 4 in 1986, though bro for some reason I remember these times just being a toddler at the time.
Another example of 70's / 80's music's superiority to the noise produced today.
I first heard this 1985. And it hit my heart right away. 🤗
i was 17 when this came out. im 48 now. then my wife came along wiped away all the tears ive ever shed from being "taken again". made me believe again in love. i can always listen to this and smile because of her. love you hunny for making it all better.
Tony Laskowski that’s an incredible story ! She is definitely a keeper !😊👍
I was 48 also 2 years ago, but always knew it would turn out like it has...now...
A fellow 1969-er, like me?
That’s is why songs like This were created , for those who need to know what “ taken in “ Even is .
I was 15, summer before 10th grade. Probably the best summer of my life.
Brilliant song. It passes the test of time and sounds as fresh today as it did in 1985.
SO CRISP AND CLEAR. One of my favorites.
First time I heard this when it came out I thought it was Foreigner.
Totally true
I got ready to get married two times and in both cases those guys got nothing to offer except lies and deception 😥
Fuck love, get money 💰. Enjoy experiences yourself. Be a shark 🦈, keep moving forward, or you'll die being stationary

Such a wonderful throw back!! Back in 1986 I LOVED this song. And just out of high school and so young…life was good then. Wish I could go back.🥺
I could not think of more perfect lyrics to describe how I feel most of the time. I really love this song.
