As an Irishman I can honestly say the North East of England is my favourite part of the entire world (I lived there for years). When it shows its Irish credentials and connections (in music and dance) it blows my mind. Howay the lads. Well done and thank you everyone in this video.
@Alexandra Z no their irish dancers, they all won and they all look like that. Unfortunately if you don't wear the wigs and makeup and dresses and tan you get marked down and probably won't win unless your dancing is amazing.
@darlene lipuma I'm an irish dancer and I absolutely love the costumes and makeup, the wigs are a bit annoying but they make you look like a more polished dancer.
I'm afraid this is not traditional Irish dancing. I can appreciate though the hours of hard work and practise. I did Irish dancing for nearly 14 years and I can't recognise any of the traditional dances in the performances. Having said that, times change, all things evolve and it's lovely to see these young people enjoying what they do 💃
@@elizabethmullhall8226 yes I was just referring to the Irish dance in general. The traditional dance include Three sea captains, Blackbird, St Patrick's and jockey to the fair to mention a few.
@elizabeth mullhall so also as an irish dancer who is dancing currently, these dances are performed still so technically it is traditional in some dances
In the 1700's it was traditional for ladies to curl their hair and to wear their Sunday best which was often a dress to church and after church they would dance outside of church and aome wanted to replicate this but there got a point that it was damaging girls hair so they started making curled wigs so girls could wear them instead of damaging their hair and that's how the wigs started then around 2008 they went from tight curl wigs to the looser curl wigs we know today and then it kinda went from there and that's how the tradition started in Britain
Everyone's saying they're wigs, which could be right in this case I'm not sure. But When I did Irish dancing as a kid the parents would by kitchen wipes and cut into tiny strips and take a small section of our hair and curl in around the fabric and tie it up, we would leave it in overnight and when we took them out they would become the most voluminous curls it was kinda cool :)

Costumes would be silly and stupid for adult women but at least they could consent or not. These are an insult and objectivication for these young girls, who apparently have been told their extremely talented dancing is not enough.
As an irish dancer, I absolutely love the dresses and makeup, tan is just there to accentuate muscle and the wigs are a style. No one forces anything on anyone and if they did then the kids would just say to stop
@@ellenmccormick9293 I do agree with your point the wigs don't have an overly natural look anymore but the tradition was on a Sunday the ladies would curl their hair and dress in their Sunday best and dance after church that's where the tradition has come from and yes dresses I agree have become very very expensive I do prefer the days of the older style using the celtic patterns which originated in the 16 and 17 hundreds
I think this is just what people have been wearing for generations and for someone to like break the generation to generation wearing dresses and wigs and tanning their legs just wouldn’t be allowed to happen and there’s certain things dancers have to follow when going to competitions or if they can’t dance. Hola, muchas gracias
Beautiful dancing and VERY talented, but they look like a cross between Irish Travelers and Toddlers and Tiaras!
Thank you, we appreciate it 🙄

Not complaining, massively impressed by all especially limber lad with bow-tie, but why has this appeared in my RUclips recommendations?
Because great dancing should be seen and appreciated ❤️
Broadening your horizons?
Kids doing something positive with their life. Love it.
And they say Texas women have "big hair" well these little ladies take the prize!
Guy with bow tie absolutely amazing
He's insane isn't he 😱❤️
Liam costello is soooooooo good
Ну, как здорово! Молодцы!❤❤❤
Очень красиво танцуют, но что на голове?

What is the deal with the curly wigs? Texan across the pond asking.
I think it goes back to when Irish dance first originated and they used to curl their hair and then it turned into wigs at some point 😊
Excellent
Can someone explain the hair to me?

They are wigs the girls are wearing by Camelia Rose/antonio pacelli some have the bun wig while others have the full wig they are from the vendors
Why do the girls have silly wigs on? I prefer the dancing than their look!
Then watch the dancing and don't be so focused on the appearance of little girls
Wonderful airborne legs and feet, but why the mundungus on the head?
😂
Anyone know the song playing in the video thanks
That's some mighty mighty hair
Девчата похожи на маленьких старушек, парики кошмар!
That's tradition
It's modern and everyone wears it, it's annoying but it's just how we look

The old wigs looked even more fake and I know people that use their actual hair in place of a wig
I use to use my actual hair
... but why so overdressed?
I've asked myself that question for years. There is no good answer. (I'm and ex dancer)
