Lalo payed a lot (relative to that family's income) to fix the guy's teeth so when the feds check his dental records he can be mistakenly identified as Lalo. In other words: he did think this far ahead, and has been preparing for a long time. He wasn't necessarily preparing since then to go to war against Gus, but he knew that, in a business like this, sometimes disappearing without anyone looking for you is one of the most rare and advantageous positions you can put yourself in. He is extremely skilled and can come up with spontaneous solutions on the fly, but he has also a cunning and more calculating side. He is a Gus who doesn't need a Mike
In Lalo's very first episode, I pegged him as the Anti-Mike, introduced because Mike didn't have a proper counterpart (i.e., a super-competent fixer/head soldier working for Gus's rivals). But season 6 showed he's also the Anti-Gus, right down to ... [SPOILER] ...dying at the hands of an enemy he badly underestimated.
I'm glad Eric caught on to the "I don't blame you. You were just following orders" line. It was def my favourite funny line from the ep. Also the little, "gold star for you!" jab haha
Watching this intro/cold open/teaser at the beginning of this episode again, after the show has ended... so many callbacks and call-forwards. On the Insider Podcast the crew called the stuff that would reference the upcoming stuff "Pre-easter eggs" lol
They did the tie shot practically. The costume designer, Jennifer Bryan, picked a number of black and white ties. Then some ties with black and white and some light shades of other colours. And then ended with a number of bright, colourful ties. They then dropped all the ties, shot it in slow-motion and voilà! No CGI trickery there
Such a brilliant shot. This last season is seriously one of the most masterful things I’ve ever seen. Writing, direction, cinematography, editing, acting, production design, everything is just A+ 10/10. It’s so great.
He definitely had that guy in case he needed a body double, he was asking about the dental care of Mateo and the lady basically said "doing great all thanks to you Mr. Lalo". He was taking care of Mateo and that's so fucking smart man. Also props to you for catching it so quick, I didn't at the beginning even when the cousins saw Mateo's burned body and then read the episode on Wikipedia because I knew something was off about that episode lmao.

Yeah, you were right in that Lalo prepared another guy who looked like him to act as a body double. The reason they worked hard on his teeth was that that way, his dental record would match Lalos. So he could use it to stage his death. That's another reason why he told him to keep the mustache and soul patch. So he would look more like him.
Funny enough, there is a bonus scene on the Breaking Bad S5 dvd where Bryan Cranston wakes up in bed as Hal from Malcom in the Middle and realizes it was all a dream.
Saul always does whatever he thinks Kim wants him to do. Sometimes he thinks wrong, but his motivation is always driven by his need for Kim's approval.

@John Matthews if I recall correctly, Vince has said that he was happy with the universe being over and concluded with BCS. The series is a masterpiece and everything we wanted, we got and even more, adding more on would really only take away from the series at this point.

I didn't see any trace of Kim in that opening sequence in the gold house of Saul's. I'm not rooting for Saul and Kim. I am waiting for Saul to say enough to Kim. He usually has her as a stop mechanism from going to far but that is gone and he is a little uncomfortable. He sees that she is not the barometer of right anymore. I am hoping that they can scale back before it goes too far. Nacho is the proof that Lado needs to prove it was Gus. He needs him alive. Gus needs him dead and to take the rap.

Season 6 part 1 is probably the peak of the show it’s consistently amazing but watching this week to week was so intense
