My first go-round with pcbh and I just came across this and my first thought was-- OMG. I'm still trying to process the whole thing. I'm sure they all had fun doing it and it was great for them to be out of their prisoner rolls even though it was a prison show. Jane Clifton was the anchor for this whole show ;without her this show would lack all credibility-- at least from the singing part. Given the fact that this was almost 40 years ago I wonder what the women thought about this then and now.
Sorry but I can't stop laughing at how merry Gerald Maguie (Mr. Fletcher) was in this concert compared to how he acted on Cell Block H. I just love the whole cast...Cell Block H is my world favorite sitcom.
If you want true prison sitcom try Porridge, especially the original Ronnie Barker version. They even made Porridge The Movie. Also Bad Girls. British prison drama in the tradition of Prisoner Cell Block H. In some ways Bad Girls was more realistic, but in others it was even more camp than Prisoner.
Stumbled across this and couldn't stop laughing for about 5 minutes. Why? Who would think to get these people to do this? Why? This may be the very worst television I've ever seen and I love it for it! Brilliantly awful!!
this is back from the days of "variety shows" i know what you mean, but the performances are good. a lot of those prisoners are pretty good singers! i watched the whole thing, but did it in 5 goes!

I'd guess this was recorded in 1981. The women are wearing old style prison uniforms and Fletch left in 82.
