  • In this video, we get almost all of our garden planted for the season. The excessive rain has made the mud and weeds a real challenge so far but it is amazing how different the garden looks once the wood chips are in and the beds are planted.

    Nice garden. It's so big I can tell you devote a lot of time to it. I have learned even a failure is a success. The onions look great! Once things start to grow there's not so much time to work on infrastructure.

    Rude. I don't see you running power tools while Troy records his videos. What nerve. 😄

    Have you thought about using grass clippings for mulch? With the size of your yard, and that amount of mulch you need, you'd have a constant supply. And grass does really good for mulching, just have to let is sit a bit before throwing it on.

      Yes, we have done that in the past. Our routine now is just to throw those into the compost.

    I think I’m down to just planting sweet potatoes. The rain, and life, has us well behind schedule. I know I enjoy the content you create. We’re in the gentle hills of Missouri near the river, and to me, seeing garden work in other places is enjoyable! Have a blessed day!

    Mrs. Troy why are you trying to kill the poke berry???
    Poke is good eating my Grandma used to get it when it was about 2-3 inches tall clean, rinse and cook then they are a delicasy so are milk weed blossoms clean them rinse them roll in egg & flower and fry in bacon greese yum yum eat 'em up...
    the poke needs rinsed and cooked you should ask an older person the how to steps...

      I know they are poisonous to humans & livestock, but parts can be consumed at certain stages of development. I’m just not interested at this point in figuring all that out. Too many other yummy things in the garden to eat.😃

      @@RedToolHouse Mrs. Troy yes I know the berries are poison and I know my Grandma got them when only a couple inches tall rinsed them a few times like I said check with an older neighbor to learn how but I loved them as a kid and the milk weed blossoms...
      But you got to do it right don't want to get sick, whem I move to my property I want to learn how to cook the poke myself...

    May I ask why you cut the onion tops? Love your videos!

    • @RedToolHouse
      @RedToolHouse  4 месяца назад +1

      Mostly because they fall over & break anyway & I don’t want them covering my peppers. I also think that when they fall over it triggers the onion to flower bc it’s ready to harvest. They’re not ready yet & I want them to get much bigger. (I’m not sure if that’s correct, but they were breaking in the wind anyway, so I’ve just been trimming them.)

      Thank you! My onions are getting so tall and are not done yet and I like how neat yours look. I think I am going to do that to mine. I love learning. Thank you for answering me 😊

      @@HodgePodgeHoosiers I’m definitely a novice when it comes to onions, but I figure it doesn’t hurt them since they were getting so tall & breaking on their own.😉

      I am a novice at them too. I have a nice size raised bed garden and have been doing videos on it but I don’t say much about the onions. Last year mine didn’t bulb and I want bigger ones this year. I want to expand to doing more herbs next year.
