    Excellent video mate, really clear and loads of information. I'm fitting exactly the same toilet in our van conversion.
    We have both agreed like you to only use it for no1s and I didn't know about the yellow button 😊 well done!

      Great to see you in this channel, I think between your thermal engineering and Jaz's Electric expertise you both have the best van building series on the web.

    Just FYI, I lived in an RV for years and I know for a fact that RVers jam that short hose at the dump station up the tube that held their solid waste, to help clean out the tube. I mention this because it’s riddled with bacteria and I was really surprised you just grabbed the hose end bare handed. I guess I just want to stress that even if your system is nicely contained, other peoples are not.....so yeah....please folks, wear gloves and/or wash your hands.

    • @JaznLori

    Glad that you you werent too shy to share the not-so-pretty details. Lol. We're putting in a cassette toilet so this was a much appreciated vlog. From BC Canada. 😉

      Cassette toilets are good when you don't use them long time. For hollidays or so but to live with it al the time is horror.

    Your vids rule Jaz. Watched before from start, now revisiting for van build. I'm thinking something like a simploo composting toilet. Your honesty & humility are what makes them so valuable. Thanks dude

  • @jimrodda

    Hi Jaz, very informative but I think a composting toilet is the way to go, it's the urine mixed with solids that causes the smell, composting toilets keeps it seperate, safe travels 😀🇬🇧

    Nice and informative thanks! I’ve been in a van for a couple of years with the same type Thetford cassette, very easy to “use”! Couple of hints, i always give mine a rinse out st the dump point, gets rid of tissue residues which can jam things up. I also keep a bottle of hand sanitizer gel inside the cassette enclosure, handy for a final hand clean before touching anything else!

    Hate those toilets. That's why i have a separett compost toilet which seperates the no1 en 2's. its ventilated so no smells at all and no need for any other toilets. The no 1's go in a 130 liter wastetank with al the other wastefluids the greytank and you can dump it everywhere. The no 2's dry out and you throw them away or sell it :)

    • @des2610
      @des2610 6 лет назад +1

      Oh lord, interesting...... could you tell me more? I'm just about to embark on a van build adventure and I need all the advise I can get...thanks

    • @LordOneHoop
      @LordOneHoop 6 лет назад

      All is said i think. You can google on compost toilet. Good luck!

    • @LordOneHoop
      @LordOneHoop 6 лет назад

      ruclips.net/video/gQDvGfXC-UM/видео.html There is not only separett but also other fabricators as Naturehead and others. The thing with the no 2 is that its only smelling because of the no 1 mixed with it. If it isnt mixed it does not smell. It's like the same thing with a flushing toilet you smell at first off course (depends on every persons smell i gues :) ) but as soon as the lid closes the smell is gone

    Thanks Jaz. Good question raised around the use of a composting toilet.. why did you make the choice you did?

    • @JaznLori
      @JaznLori  6 лет назад

      It was easy and affordable at the time, and I didn't really know much about composting toilets at all, but they might be an even better option from what everyone is saying

  • @abgmac67
    @abgmac67 6 лет назад +2

    We did 1's and 2's in our cassette toilet and had no smell problems. Sure it was a bit 'lumpy' when emptying but it was amazing how quickly most of the stuff had broken down. And yes I rinsed it out after emptying and used gloves as well and then gave my hands a good wash. I think if you're gonna have a toilet you may as well use it - having to wait until you find a public toilet sounds like a pain - literally - and takes away some of your freedom.

    • @JaznLori
      @JaznLori  6 лет назад

      Thats interesting what chemicals were you using? I know what you're saying man, if there was no smell I would be doing it too

    The trouble is trying to empty one of those toilets , in our country you would have to live in a camp site as they like to shut all the outside toilets except in a shopping centre & you can't go with your cassette in one of those to empty your bog ..lol..

    • @JaznLori
      @JaznLori  5 лет назад

      Cassette or Composit...This is what I'm contemplating........???? It would be so good to have a pipe from the dunny to the ground and let nature deal with it....I know you cant do that.....

    • @JaznLori
      @JaznLori  6 лет назад +2

      I havent tried a compost but from what I hear they are the best!

    • @LordOneHoop
      @LordOneHoop 6 лет назад

      Yep TWJ but now you might be worried about all the work you already did and the holes it made but maybe you can still use the tank of the flushtoilet and keep the rest separated in another dry toilet ;) Perhaps it's even possible to make your own toilet where the tank is hidden in. Just an idea. Afterall all you need is a, preferable ventilated, bucket :)

    What's a 'number one'??? It's called a number two because it rhymes with poo, so a pee is a number three. This is a very important point, it's vital you get this right to avoid confusion. Utterly important.

    • @JaznLori
      @JaznLori  6 лет назад +1

    Dear Jaz,
    A shitty business that we all have to address; would a macerator connected to said throne & provided one travels to some agricultural areas, one could in theory fertilise the local flora!!!. A very instructive video; what might have been good to know is the different systems available for motor homes & how they operate.. Keep up the good work my old fruit. Kind regards.

    • @JaznLori
      @JaznLori  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks yeah that would be possible haha, I am not familiar with anything else since I haven't used it so I stick to what I have and know, but compost toilets and SOG systems sound pretty good too, maybe something for the future

      Dear Jaz,
      Thank you very much for your courteous reply. As & when you either come across & or decide to investigate other systems & want to cover them, that would be equally informative & give an informed viewpoint. Very well done. Kind regards.

    Dumping in a public toilet is disgusting, use WikiCamps to find a dump point in the town you’re in, there’s one in nearly every one. You can also get a second cassette to last between finding dump points.

      @pztiger_214 6 лет назад

      Bella Sheffield where do u store 2nd cassette?

    • @Bella7930
      @Bella7930 6 лет назад +1

      PzTiger _ I store mine in a plastic tub with a lid that I can seal up, keep it in the back of my car, I don’t use it often, but it’s there if I get stuck. I tow a caravan/trailer.

    • @RussellBond13
      @RussellBond13 6 лет назад +5

      Why exactly is it disgusting, what do you think everybody else thats going in there is doing?

      @pztiger_214 6 лет назад

      Bella Sheffield thank you

    • @JaznLori
      @JaznLori  6 лет назад +2

      I can see your view but I was showing the reality of it. It is disgusting if people are careless and make a mess yes, but I make sure not too, there is only chemically treated urine going into the toilet anyway, a public toilet gets a lot worse than that from every other user.. I often leave the toilet cleaner than I found it.

    Someone needs to invent like a poo bazooka. So you would take a dump in some kind of compartment and then the next time you are driving along you press a button and like boom, the whole lot gets fired out through a cannon on the top of the van. Problem solved.
