Once i heard SPECIALZ, i knew from vibes alone (i dont speak nor understand japanese) it was a song for the villains. Having it play during yujis breakdown, imo was peak without understanding the lyrics. It became even better when the lyrics are DIRECTLY taunting yuji

Silence is all well and good, but I love whenever the OP plays during an episode in an anime. Can really sells how important a moment is

Whenever jjk season 1 came out i watched it all the way through and liked it but i didn’t really love it immediately, but that scene specifically was the reason i got into the manga fully, i feel like every anime has this moment/troupe where the theme/ending plays after something big happens, but barely anyone talks about it, i think that they did such a really great job bc of the song choice, it kinda feels almost maniacal and empty, paired with yuji’s face of absolute despair and the fact that they actually have people pushing back on it makes it one of my favorite use of that troupe
Imagine Sukuna in Yuji’s Soulscape just sitting in his chair with a martini just relaxing while listening to Yuji’s breakdown.

I actually really loved it. Especially the guitar rifts playing as the full scope of sukuna's horror was on screen. I was so into the episode that nothing could break my immersion. Plus my heart was bleeding for Yuji. I loved it. HOWEVER. Upon seeing people edit the song on other traumatic scenes. I can see why people dont like it. Like someone put it over a certain death in one piece(I wont specifiy since I know you're just getting into it) and it really threw off the scene was very funny

I really like what they did with the song- Its very natural to do in anime and intense shows to play the intro or outro during the final(or even spmetimes first) scene of the episode to maximize impact.
This does not imply that it couldn't have been better with some simple suspense tones and a light crescendo build-up to a crushingly silent black screen... still love what was done
was honestly such an amazing scene, changes the tone and makes it as if the destruction is Sukuna's artwork

The you are my special is the theme for the shibuya incident.. and needless to say Sukuna destroying shibuya… is the shibuya incident. But just like the intro you get the sense that regardless of whatever horror & despair that is in store nobody can do anything but walk towards it and reconcile the event. And that’s what Yuji does in that moment.
It’s good and anyone who disagrees. Should get black flashed. For they are my special.
I don’t know what the lyrics mean, but the song to me sounds spooky and gives of an eerie feeling and isn’t a something you would play during any other moment than a scary or messed up one and not some mc hero moment so i think it fits.

Maybe they didn't have enough time to make a music piece for that scene, when the Mahoraga versus Sukuna fight was first released it was incomplete. I believe it was the mappa sound team cutting corners due to the fact that they didn't give it enough time.

I think it would’ve been better to have it play when Yuji sees Nanami get killed by Mahito. While I don’t absolutely hate it like other people, I saw this scene blind for the first time and felt like it would’ve been so much harder had Yuji just stood there in shock of all the death the rampage cause, maybe some scenes of dead bodies or remains of people caught in the domain. Really drive home how devastating it was. The that dark somber moment, then have Yuji breakdown. Wondering why he’s even alive to begin with.
If you like the song you like the scene if you dislike the song then you dislike the scene, simple as that. I loved it
The song cuts in the middle of the breakdown, as if to intentionally distance the viewer from what is happening. That is what it seemed like to me, like the series was scared to actually immerse you in that moment
Honestly, the You Are My Special scene was amazing, the opening can be taken as Sukuna mocking Yuji for the way he lives, and it fits really well with the connotations later on in the series

i honestly dont get why people dislike the song playing
i think personally silence or not it works perfectly.
in this case it would be a great way to provoke a reality into the viewer, that everyone will suffer because of sukuna and kenjaku if they don't take them seriously.
the opposite can be said for the silence aswell, it provokes reality aswell but in this case proves that in a blink of a eye everything can go south, it isn't a fun game.
it basically implicates the same effect through a different method.
Oh it was hype as hell to me. It's like Sukuna taunting Yuji, him being kenjaku's "special" and the world laughing at Yuji all in one. Like imagine the absolute worst day you've ever had and then you start to get laughed at for it. Imo really pushed the feeling of being powerless.
I liked it a lot since i'm a manga reader so i was already aware of the "Suffering builds character" joke Gege likes to pull with Yuji. I think people who had negative reactions to it where just not in the vibe of laughing at Yuji with Sukuna, so maybe if the anime showed a few frames of Sukuna laughing, maybe inside the domain with some crazy pleased face like "aah, music to my ears" as Yuji screamed and cried outside, more people would have got it

I fucking loved it thought it really added to the scene something I did not like was when Toto clap hands with mahito. I really did not like the scene of imagination as to what was happening I think it actually takes away a little bit of the cool factor in the moment that he just pulled off this amazing move and sacrifice, and I think having that kind of funny in there cheap in the moment a little bit
I think it would've been better silent, but it's not bad with the ost, so I'm fine with it.

May for many people find the "you are my special" part very meh or cringe or saying "this song ruined the whole show, it's trash season etc" *somehow* but over all the composition is pretty good.
It gives the dark vibe, about villains winning this round season.
Yk, they put right after yuji got breakdown so it gives me like "the evil win"
But after reading the song test it has more sense, even tho it's not how i said, it still gives very dark vibe.
It's really good song, pretty experimental and unique.
People is too young to remember how goated it is when an anime plays an opening in the middle of the episode for an impactful moment.
Tons of animes like that out there, they just not memorable enough for me to remember

I like the moment, I think using the music is fine.
The problem is the music is bad, it was bad as an OP and it was bad in scene. It’s shitty stomp rock, and after the amazing music of the first half of the season, it was a slap in the face. 21p/Creed/Nickelback-ass music.

i always loved that specialz played. not only is it a chilling song, but the ties to sukuna taunting him with it works so well
While I like the song, I don’t think it’s worth it to have such a tone clash in scene, regardless of what the song and its lyrics represent. Even then the timing of the song was kind of off for what it was trying to do. If you had to do it you should have it play more at the beginning before the breakdown

It’s also important to note that SPECIALZ is written from the perspective of the villains, so that further adds to my belief.
Specialz is the opening to JJK. Having that song play while Yuji was just suffering felt like the show was telling me "Welcome. This is Jujutsu Kaisen. Nothing but Yuji suffering."
Hated it. I get what they might have been going for but in my opinion the mood of the song didn’t fit the mood of the moment. If they wanted the focus to be on Sukuna taunting Yuji then they could have found a better way of doing that, but I think silence would have been better.

as someone who doesnt like the intro, i didnt like it playing there
i didn’t rly like it. i would’ve much preferred silence. i feel like playing funky and upbeat music just kinda rly changed the mood for no good reason. i get that the lyrics make sense in the moment, but the overall song is too upbeat to not change the mood. it’s like in marvel when there’s supposed to be a dramatic or sad scene and some annoying comic relief character makes an ill timed joke that no one found funny. it’s a matter of opinion, and my opinion is that it ruined the scene

I loved this moment - someone already commented this earlier but it was like the whole world was lqughing at Yuji, who had promised to never let Sukuna take control. Its also painful for Yuji because up to this point, he really thought he was doing the best he could do, but it simply wasnt enough. Fate (gege) had other plans. This moment just makes me think: Poor Yuji.
My favourite thing about this discussion is that people who do like it will not let people not like it and it is so funny.
This moment was literally the equivalent to mahito yelling back at yuji after killing nanami, it’s a “this ain’t no fairytale where good guys win” moment and the only ppl that hate it are the weebs who’re used to watching isekais all of the time, so when a show like jjk shows then realism in any capacity, they go brain rot and immediately hates it with no real logic
SPECIALZ itself is a very hypnotic and evil sounding song. It encapsulates the chaos and carnage caused by Sukuna as well as the Shibuya arc's dark themes perfectly.
The song playing during Yuji's lowest is quite literally telling us how fucked and dark of a story it has now become. The point of no return in JJK.
I dunno, just going off on how it sounds, it sounds a bit too upbeat for me.
For me it works because I think it subverts a lot of expectations. The contrast between Yuji's despair and the more "energetic and funky" song works very well, it seems like the scene along with the song is mocking Yuji, or that Sukuna is mocking Yuji
