well, mission accomplished with this song. i'm from L.A. and go to college in DC, and this past summer i stayed to take summer classes to make up some credits. and every time i heard CA Gurls or saw the video (which was a lot) it made me miss and want to go home SO BAD. i'll be back for winter break next week, so yaaay!
at least she's a singer that can write her own song, only a few certified great singers can do that :D

I have to admit there is way more going on in California. It's pretty boring around here, definitely not much to do. But going by the beauty of the beaches only I think Florida has the most beautiful in the world.
Even though I've been raised in Texas, i was born in California n by going back to visit the west coast it's made me who I am today! Love it but Snoop knows he could've repped like he normally do but this time it was just ok!

Congrats to Katy Perry and her success. I like that Jay Z's Empire State of Mind was her inspiration to do a song about California. When I listen to the two songs I think Perry's song just comes off as shallow. Its a fun, catchy beat but it really doesn't resonate like Jay-Z's song. I want to get on a plane and fly to NYC every time I hear that song and his video is RELEVANT to the music. Which video/song will be around in two years? The flavor of the summer or the joint about NYC with Alicia?

@AdaZanditon I thought the same thing when she said that no other female artist had done a song about California "just yet"!!! I mean Joni Mitchell is one of the greatest female singer/songwriters that there has ever been. I like Katy Perry but her song doesn't come close to Joni's. And I'm from Florida's Emerald Coast and our beaches have the Golden Coast beat by a long shot:) Sand as white as sugar and beautiful blue green water. Even after BP's oil spill we still have better beaches;)

LOL - was actually considering visiting California next year, primarily to meet up with a friend who I liked in a...ummm...let's just say "more than just friends" kind of way....regretably, she turned out to be...how to politely put this...less than stable...as in "I'd like to date you, but God told me not to"...so my reason to visit CA is kinda scraped for the moment...will probably go eventually...just wish Katy's song would stop stalking me from store to car radio to store etc. ;p
@ChannelTofu Oh okay I don't really know these song's histories. But songs like Tell Me by WonderGirls, some of Son Dam Bi's songs, and many others, sound a lot like old school English goodies. Just the background music though. :P It's funny how we Koreans love American hip-hop, yet we protest their exported meat. xD Eh I'm not really much of a Kpop fan but I'm forced to listen to some because of my sister lol.

i was kinda dissapointed with katy perrys music video of california girls when she made the whole video about CANDYLAND and not actually about california! as a california girl myself i know that the beaches out here in San fransisco and LA are beautiful and its sad she couldnt capture those images

there are hella songs about california. One by too $hort called "california girls", says basically the same thing but from a guys perspective and its pretty tight. and there are planty other bay area rap songs that are about how great Cali is
I get what she was trying to do, but there's so much out there about california already, and (being a californian) I was extremely disappointed with her representation of california (and its girls). The video is just plain confusing.

@varone6t9 I think they were going for the non Californian POV. Show it's like a fantasty land, the whole surrealism of it. And that's how they played it in the video like it's Candyland. But that's just what I think.
i think the whole idea of the music video was that california is like a whole nother country and everything is so different, plus the it wanted to show how the girlz were if ya know wat i mean.....
