Dear Sydney ❤ agree! I think it was very kind to “explain “ reasons. BUT it’s your garden now. Love what you have done thus far.looks so neat. In my opinion the boxwoods looked old and tired to me. No disrespect for Linda. The picture on her new book looks beautiful but it no longer looked like that. Also IMO people are always going to have one like me😂

It’s interesting that Linda is totally changing the landscape at her new home and everyone is very excited for her- but some are giving you grief for doing the same at your home. When you buy a home it is now yours to design as your own. Have a great time designing your garden and your remodeling inside. Martha Highland, do you know who the previous owners of Linda's house are? Because I don't. But we do know that Linda is the previous owner of this house. Therein lies the difference. Also, the house Linda bought didn't have a beautiful garden already in place.

@@kbarnes6855 it would be. I always change a house to suit myself. But I don't put it on RUclips and expect everyone to like it. You people are pushing the everyone has to think the same thing that's taking over the world right now. Is nobody allowed to have another opinion? I've been insulted and called names because I dared to say I didn't think Tudor and Southwestern meshed very well. I think these people on here would love anything regardless of how it really looks. Sydney, you are wonderful to acknowledge the attachment that viewers had to Linda's work. You are correct - the speed with which the changes were surprising. Your reasons are yours alone and you owe noone an explanation. When I bought my house a few years ago, the very first thing to be removed was a horrid Strawberry pink plastic dual sink. Had to go. Today I had 4 shrubs removed from my front yard that made me very unhappy. I waited til the time was right and today was that day! Good luck in your continued reno! Your graciousness and respect for Linda and your new viewers is just wonderful.

Sydney, I have been a follower of Linda Vater for several years. Although I am much older (80 this month), I was drawn to Linda because of her personality. She reminds me alot of myself; always reaching ahead, trying new things, looking at life as an adventure while sharing every bit of it with old and new friends. At first, I thought her garden was too complicated, too random. However, as I watched week after week, I began to be inspired by her enthusiasm and her detailed teaching style. I enjoyed watching her tours of other homes and their gardens. It seemed that most of them were similar to her style until she got to your house, which was very different than Linda's. So when she hinted that she was selling her house to someone we had already met, I never dreamed it would be you. I guess I thought that whoever bought it would simply maintain it as the iconic English house and gardens that she created. However, I know from buying, fixing up, and selling many houses, that I had no say as to how the new owner docorated the house or the gardens. Once I signed the contract, it was no longer my house. So, I say all this to tell you, kudos, Sydney, for making this your house and gardens, and for how you are getting professional help to preserve the structure of the house and especially the trees. I look forward to following your journey at your new address.

I love what you're doing - it's your home and garden. It's incredibly kind of you to offer some explanation - you don't owe it to anyone. Even Linda knew those boxwoods were needing a change - she cut them way back last year and said she may not keep them. She wouldn't want the yard to be kept as some type of shrine to her. She's well into making many changes in her own new garden and no one is worrying about what the previous homeowners think about them.

It wasn't that long ago that Linda posted a video explaining what she'd do differently in that garden. That included changes to the potager.
It was a very insightful video. It demonstrated how gardens evolve, how we learn from trial & and error, and how design principles lend to how we enjoy our spaces.
Nothing in gardening stays the same.

Hear Hear! You are spot on! This is your garden, it must reflect you. I love English gardens and boxwoods, but the drier our summers are getting , I'm leaning to less boxwood. A garden will grow and redefine itself as it ages, and as the gardener ages. I'm closer to Linda's age, and to be truthful, boxwood maintenance is harder and harder each year. I follow you because I love your style, I love your use of evergreens, the clean look of your garden, less fussy, but still oh so beautiful! And I love your raised bed gardens. You carry on being you!!!

Wow! Dear Sydney and Tommy, I too agree with so many of the comments regarding how sad it is that these “viewers” got upset over the changes to LV’s garden! This is NOT Linda’s garden now. This is YOUR garden and unfortunately, in our “age of entitlement” so many people feel they have the right to do and say as THEY please but not afford that same luxury to others! This age of media brings with it some with poor social skills or none at all! Keep doing YOU! And for those who don’t like, get your own channel and do what you want or move on. The nerve of some people! This video made me “Like” you even more ❤️ and I’m excited for what you ultimately do and keep thinking outside of the box-woods!

Sydney, I agree with everyone who has said you don’t owe anyone an explanation. You did buy house with an iconic garden, but the gardener who created that is creating a new garden in her new property. You have every right to create your own in the house you have purchased. We all have the right to do that. That’s why it’s called our home. You are so thoughtful to give an explanation, but it isn’t necessary.

Thank you for this insight that many of us did not have. I think the reason no one has any issues with what Linda is doing at her new house... is that it was completely baron of any landscaping , so hers was a blank slate. But knowing and watching Linda in this garden for years was just a big adjustment for us viewers...or for me anyway. But I saw your other house tours front and back, also your Christmas tour. So I do know how lovely those gardens were. I will be patient and watch you turn this into your vision with your unique style. I have no doubt it will impress us all.

Girl, I commented before that I love that you are taking advantage of that space that was filled with boxwoods…it was pretty (however not my taste) but just my opinion wasted space. You are young & Ill bet along the way, your taste in gardens/style will probably change over & over. But there will be certain things that won’t change that you just know you’ve always loved & been attracted to. I have personally always been attracted to tropical gardens…something I can’t explain but I blend a little cottage garden into it.
This is your home now…make it your own & have a ball doing it!💕

Now, I find myself eager to catch-up on my RUclips viewing of your channel and Linda's channel with her new house and garden. Change may be difficult for some folks, but I find it a welcome change and looking forward to seeing ALL OF IT on both channels! Happy Gardening & Hook'em Horns, LOL!

I'm sorry if you felt the need to explain your decisions - you shouldn't. I'm loving watching the changes you're making to YOUR garden as much as I'm enjoying watching the changes being made to Linda's new garden. I have large gardens and I'm constantly making changes to it - change is what makes us grow. I've never like being defined as anything, but I guess if pressed, I'd say my gardening style is eclectic.

I love seeing the transformation of all that you are doing around YOUR home and garden - it is all so beautiful! My husband and I have lived in our pre-owned home for 14 years now and we are continually making changes & upgrades to our landscape and interior as we can. Once a person owns a property, it’s theirs to do with as they see fit - not at all done out of disrespect to previous owners, but because everyone has different tastes, likes & dislikes, or needs & wants - all of which involves constant change! I absolutely love the layout of your new potager garden area and can’t wait to see how it continues to develop and grow, along with any other changes or additions to come! Awesome job, Sydney & Tommy! (Loved your ‘Intro’ as well as this video format too - always great to see the face behind the voice!)

When I saw the potager torn out I was shocked. I did love it. After watching today's video I can certainly understand your reasoning. Hi there! I think from watching this and your other videos, that you the kind of gardener who isn’t afraid of dirt work, or planning, and who loves to actually grow things and enjoys the process along the way. For a lot of people it would be a dream if somebody else did all the work first, and then all they have to do is do maintenance. And that’s ok too.
Not everybody understands the euphoria that comes with creating something and making it your own. It’s exhilarating and intoxicating. And ironically, it’s exactly what Linda is doing to her new space also! I really don’t think she is at all sad or disappointed about what you are doing either, because she gets it. I think she’s also loving that she is creating something new, and in her own euphoria with making something become her own.
I relate to, and enjoy both of your channels, immensely for these reasons. Sidenote, thank you for showing how you pinch off your sweetpeas! I have a bunch sprouted that I winter-sowed (also for max blooms!) and I wasn’t sure what to do with them next before planting! 🙏🏼🌱💚
    Happy gardening!

I too would have needed to remove the boxwood garden to add raised beds. For myself, I would want as much room as I could get out of that sunny area to grow vegetables.
I can’t imagine not being able to do what fits my needs in my own garden. Linda is making changes to her new garden to fit her style. I am happy for all of you and your new gardens and look forward to both your and Linda’s future videos. 😊

I found you through Linda, and have been excited to follow along on both yours and Linda’s new gardening journey. It only makes sense that you would put your stamp on your new garden. I love the changes you’ve made, and how your personality is coming through.
