Tip- The flavor of Quinoa is greatly improved by taking just a minute to toast it in a pan until the quinoa just starts turn color slightly and starts to make popping sounds. You must constantly keep it moving while toasting. Take off the heat immediately and cook as normal. This brings our a wonderful nutty flavor in the quinoa and to me is always worth the small amount of time.
Also, tri-colour quinoa has more taste than just white quinoa. Make sure you use boiling water/broth after toasting or it will spit all over the place!
I am here to help with the quinoa woes. My credentials: having a Peruvian mamá ;) First off: the package always give the wrong water to quinoa ratio which is guaranteed to give you mushy soggy quinoa. You want more like a 1.5-1.75 cup water to 1 cup quinoa ratio. Second: toast that quinoa with some oil in the pot before cooking it. Let it get all toasty smelling. The bonus to doing this is that when you pour in the water it goes straight to a boil and you just pop on the lid, turn the temp up until you hear it boiling and then reduce to simmer for 15-20min. Third: use a cast iron pot. I never could replicate the quinoa of my childhood until I was recently gifted a cast iron Dutch oven by my mamá. Now when I take the lid off it is fluffy and the kernals are popped and curly like they should be. Fourth: take the pot off the heat, I like to sprinkle a bit of lemon juice in and give it a stir, put the lid back on and let it sit for 5 min. It will be just perfect when you take the lid off again. I guarantee you will grow to love quinoa if you can cook it properly!
Nisha, your recipes are helping me pull myself out of depression. When my mental health suffers, I stop cooking for myself. I live off of packaged foods and delivery, feeling worse about myself each time. I recently started feeling better and started going to the gym again. My next step was learning new easy and nutritious recipes, and this video helped me make the first new dish in almost a year. Thank you so much! I know I’m going to try another one this week.
Keep up the good work ❤ You can do this. Going to the gym was a great way to start getting out of your depression. I exercise Mon- Friday using my FitOn app at home to beat my depression. You eating vegan & exercising is doing more than what the majority of ppl are doing so keep going !! You're awesome 😊
I go through the same. I’m in my “awake” phase (it’s not complete dark around me at the moment) off my depression and I’m cooking for myself again. I hope we can continue making many meals for ourselves ❤😋
Something I love about this video is how you're showing how you are multitasking. I need to meal prep but it takes me so long. Seeing how you have a few "fires" going, even while you film is both fun and helpful
you're harming your baby by restricting the nutrients it needs for healthy development... they literally can't develop properly just because of your ego
I make quinoa like a pilaf kind of. I sauté a bunch of different veggies (onions garlic zucchini mushrooms bell peppers) then toss in the dry quinoa and toss it around with the veggies for a minute or two to let it toast and take on the flavor of the veggies, then I use vegetable stock instead of water, bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat. Then fluff and get all the veggies and quinoa well incorporated.
Instead of whole-wheat pasta, I found edamame, lentil or black bean pasta because I'm gluten free, and it has 20g protein per serving. It has a slightly more chewy texture than a regular pasta, but it's really good! It makes any pasta dish much higher protein compared to wheat, corn, or rice noodles.
Those recipes and tips in the kitchen on boiling pasta water, quinoa/sheet pan, etc., were fantastic. Thank you. And, great that you posted this video on a Saturday. So helpful to get my meals ready for the week.
I absolutely adore how we can tell from your demeanor that the quinoa dish was not your shtick. You had an excitement when cooking everything else but with that dish you were more excited by the garlic. It's such a human moment and I completely understand that feeling of "I'll cook it but I'm not excited about it."
All the recipes look great! For the pasta it might be helpful in this recipe to reserve some of the pasta water for the sauce as the starch in it will help with the creaminess. For the quinoa toasting it in olive oil will help improve the flavor and prevent it from clumping together.
these are amazing! i’ve been making your recipes for a long time and recently have been in the gym and trying to hit 30+ grams of protein per meal. i love how these are so well thought out and put together and proves that i don’t have to eat dry bland food just to build muscle. please make more of these!
Another quinoa tip - if you miss the starchiness of rice, adding a spoonful or two of rice into the ricecooker with quinoa ( I use a 1:2 ratio). Also like rice- adding ginger slice/mustard seed/other flavorings is good Also replace wheat pasta w chickpea/lupin/ other protein pastas or noodles with buckwheat noodles
Definitely want to try the edamame toast! Not sure if anyone mentioned this but lentil, chickpea, and pea pastas have more protein than regular pasta, in case folks want to up their protein in pasta dishes. The only downside is the texture of the noodles is usually a bit different (but ZenB spaghetti is pretty good).
Actually sometimes its just a marketing stunt, regular pasta has around 15% protein, chickpea and lentil pasta has often something similar so check the nutrition stats. Also they just taste bad imo haha
@@cornicheck500 I compared the nutrition facts on the box and online, and 1 serving of bean pasta has about 13g of protein. That's quite high for pasta and definitely higher than whole wheat pasta for similar calories. Plus I think the video only mentioned like 7g of protein for the whole wheat pasta. And other people may not like it but I love eating the bean pastas. I mostly eat bean pasta now. I only recommend things I would do myself!
This! I use an edamame pasta which is 42% protein and 23% fibre per 100g. Much much better than the plain pastas and honestly really tasty! I’m next going to look into making my own hemp flour pasta, which is a whopping 50% protein and 18% fibre! Haven’t tried it before so I can’t say anything on that ones taste. They’re quite equal though as you’re only trading protein for fibre!
I've been watching you for a few years now, and I see you're nearing one million subscribers! Hope you throw yourself a big celebration when you hit that number. You deserve it girl!
Love the humor, thanks for sprinkling in some silly personality! I’ve had to switch up my diet a bit so this protein video is right on time! Going to make the quinoa dish now 😊.
The edamame avocado mash was phenomenal. Use half the soy (or tamari) at first to see if you like the salt level. I used one tablespoon of tamari and found it to be pretty salty.
I have made these recipes a hundred times but sometimes I love to watch the video again. I find Nisha just so hilarious and a natural comedian. These meals are superb! Keep showing the world that plant based food is superb and you use A LOT OF WHOLE foods too. Superb!
I tried your smashed edamame on toast this morning and I am in love with it! I ended up having a second slice of toast slathered in it. So good! thank you so much!
I was looking for a fast and easy breakfast to take to work. I saw the video on your smashed edamame toast. It honestly didn't look very good to me. I couldn't imagine those ingredients melding into something delicious. I made the smashed part and thought I was right but being a true believer in your cooking abilities, I went ahead and put it together with the sauerkraut and hemp seeds. Wow! I took one bite and thought she did it! She made me a believer. Thank you for another wonderful recipe!
You are teaching people while making it really enjoyable to watch, lots of naughty and unnaughty little comments and jokes. I'm just so happy we have you in the vegan community!
Nisha! Rinsing the quinoa gets rid of the saponin which can cause stomach discomfort. Also, once I started cooking quinoa in my instant pot - 2 minutes high pressure and 10 minutes natural release- I always have fluffy quinoa. I toss in a bay leaf and a bit of furikake to season it. Never boring!
Wow! We tried the garlicky quinoa last night - UNBELIEVABLY good! This will 100% be one of our staples. Love the high protein post! Exactly what we needed
Great recipes! Thank you! This is how I sometimes make quinoa when I have time; sauté some shallots and red pepper in the pot first. Sometimes, I add turmeric and garlic too. Then add the quinoa and sauté a little bit. Add vegetable broth instead of water and bring to boil and then lower the heat until cooked. It’s very tasty! I love your videos!
I really feel your workflow during preparation of the 2nd recipe: Add an ingredient to the sauce, stop to do something else, add the next one and so on - somehow my cooking always ends with this phase where you have to do x steps simultaneously as well 😀
I just want to make this clear, it's really important to explain everything about vegan ethics to younger generations. Currently the meat industry is massively targeting teens with TikTok reels and Facebook reels. It's very important from an early age that kids hear vegans side of the story or they'll end up so indoctrinated, that it'll be hard for them to question the meat eaters position they're in, due to being too involved in meat eating. So it's really important to explain everything to teens and younger kids, but with younger kids not too graphically. Point being it's really important for younger generations to actually understand the ethics and philosophies behind veganism, so they can ask moral questions at a young age, when building their conscience. Obviously they also need to understand how it's healthier to be on whole food plant based diet as well, and that there will be no health complications if done correctly. ✌
Not looking to get swole but need help with managing my weight loss and PCOS so high protein recipes are great for me since I usually have to tweak other recipes to get more protein!
My favourite kind of pasta when looking for a high protein meal has got to be red lentil pasta the protein level varies by brand but some have 20grams of protein per serving and i usually pair it with some tofu pesto
I've always been on the fence with quinoa also, but I figured out a perfect formula and cooking method that even after it's it's it's still great! I rinse the quinoa and cook it with equal parts water in the instant pot for one minute and let it go down naturally. Works like a dream
You are awesome! I do not cook. However, I am starting a vegan lifestyle and needed some help. I love your video so far! I am not only learning but entertained. I love your personality. You have made this journey a bit less scary. Thank you!
Nisha! I made that 2nd dish and can verify the 5 spice powder is a game changer...I wasn't sure that I should buy it but I'm a teacher off for the summer so yeah I had to splurge lol. Tmrw I plan to make the edamame toaat as my avocado needed time to ripen.😅
Have you ever worked with lupini beans? Technically legumes, they are one of the most protien dense foods out there and contain all essential amino acids. They can be pretty difficult to prepare tho from dry, so you mostly see them pickled in stores
I just made the Edamame Smash. I left out the garlic and the avocado, and substituted parsley for the cilantro ( ew) and a jalapeño for the Serrano pepper. It was really easy and still very good.
I think you are amazing and you are so funny too! I so appreciate your videos! You have encouraged me tremendously on my plant based diet journey! Thank you!
This is my challenge for wanting to be fully plant based. I am allergic to soy so I always feel I don't have enough protein unless I make a shake with pea protein or something processed. I love your recipes and make them often. I talked to my Dr who said it is fine to have the shake sometimes but also ok to have other proteins once in a while so I have some fish here and there. He is really plant based focused which is awesome. But most of the time I make delicious plant based food and I am so glad I found your channel! If there is a fairly high protein non soy option that would be amazing :)
I like quinoa either flavored by a nice salad dressing (I sometimes use it instead of grains or half by half with grains in tabbouleh to get some proteins in there) or baked with wild mushrooms, so the quinoa is not so soggy. There is this traditional Czech Christmas dish for poor people called "Černý Kuba" (Black Jacob; the name was given to it because a black mushroom, black chanterelle or black trumpet was traditionally used). It's naturally meat-less, and the only animal product used was lard, which can be easily switched for some vegetable oil or preferably vegan butter. It's prepared with dried porcini and other forest mushrooms including those "trumpets of death" as the French call the black trumpets, some grains (traditionally barley groats), onions, garlic, and a bit of spices. You can use some fresh white mushrooms as well, but I would definitely mix them with at least a little bit of dried forest mushrooms, otherwise the flavor just won't be there. The preparation is simple: you soak and cook the grains (I use anything, including quinoa, but also millet or buckwheat or brown rice. It's definitely not traditional, but if I am not using quinoa and want some proteins in there, I mix in some lentils as well), fry diced onions on some fat until slightly brown, then add dried wild mushrooms that you soaked in cold water, ideally a day before cooking (or fresh mushrooms) and stew it together, add finelly chopped garlic spices (In Czech cuisine, it's traditionally marjory, pepper and caraway, but I guess herbs like thyme and a bit of cayene would work just as well), and in the end mix with the boiled and drained grains. For better taste, it's good to stew it on the pen with the other ingredients for a while. Then you put it all to an oven-safe dish coated with fat and bake on 180 °C for 20 - 30 minutes and it's done. With good forest mushrooms, this is definitely a very tasty dish (and for us who are mushroom hunting by ourselves, it is also quite cheap - just grains, fat and spices).
My favorite cooking channel! You're a joy to watch and your recipes are always so delicious 😋 I get excited when a new video comes out every time! Yay 🎉
You might consider running the audio through a filter to cut out some of the background frying-pan sizzle. Your edamame toast recipe was really good. For the Asian-Inspired Noodles, I've made a very similar dish with Soba (buckwheat) noodles.
If I try the Edamame spread, I will try it with green garden peas instead of Avocado. Just because Avocado is less accessible where I live. Not the same, but probably also very delicious. As a bonus, this should even increase the amount of protein in this meal (37 instead of 31 gramms for two servings).
This was extremely fun to watch and I will try the recipes soon. Maybe the ingredients for the Asian inspired noodles could have been all put into the pan at the end. This could have given everything a little more „crispyness“ I love cooking broccoli this way
I made the whole meal spaghetti with crumbed tofu! I was alittle sceptical about the almond butter BUT this is so delicious, fresh and addictive wow THANKYOU
I tried the dip with edaname beans and it was delicious and a nice change from hummus. I never thought of using edaname like this and I look forward to trying the tofu ricotta 😋
“I can feel myself getting Swole” 😂 I am so glad I stumbled onto your channel. Been a blog follower for a while, but this is next-level. Keep doing what you’re doing, your recipes are always delicious and you’re quirky and funny! 😊
I'm not vegan, but your channel inspires me to try more plant-based recipes and so far they all have been delicious, even to my veggie hater boyfriend!
Thank you so much for these delicious recipes that are also quick and easy to make! Tonight I made your second recipe, the yummy noodles and broccoli with tofu - I used buckwheat soba, added extra tahini and almond butter, topped it off with lime juice and sesame seeds. Big hit and a recipe with " good bones" ( easy to substitute veggies or noodles). Your sauce is my favorite ! I also love your energy and you inspire me to cook❤❤❤
This all looks so good! I make my food at work and if i'm on a big time crunch i could settle for the pre packaged lentil/quinoa microwavable packets at the store and just have the toppings ready to go!
I make a one pot, quinoa dish that's got tons of jalapeños, fire roasted tomatoes, onion, garlic, beans, and homemade taco seasoning. I will cook tofu until crispy and add that for extra protein, then serve with cilantro, lime, and avocado. Quinoa doesn't need to be boring!
i make a very similar recipe to the pasta one she showed and i love to add lightly pan-roasted chickpeas to mine! its got protein and carbs and is just such a yummy addition!
Hey instead of sauerkraut which a lot of people do not like, make pickled red onions! They pickle quickly (refrigerator type) and they are delish on a salad or would be a great topping for that dish.
I notice you're using white quinoa. Would recommend trying red quinoa - it has an interesting nutty flavour to it. Would also recommend toasting it before boiling to enhance that ☺️
I have always loved your recipes but I have never commented on how much they make me laugh. Laughter is important and I love your sillyness as you go! 🥰😂
As always, thanks for your wonderful recipes. I made the garlicky quinoa and lentils with ricotta for dinner tonight and it was fantastic. I can't wait to try the other recipes.
I absolutely adore how you are "Real", you show your goofy 🤪 side which makes your videos 🎦 even better ‼️ I laughed 😂 so hard at your 💪 workout ‼️. Thank you for these delicious 😋🤤 High protein recipes ‼️. I can't wait 😀 to try each one‼️💚🌱
I needed this! I don't want to get ripped, but I have a disease that means I don't absorb protein properly, and doctors are FOREVER trying to get me to eat meat. I'd rather just be sick, frankly. So this helps so much!
you're already sick in the head lol... the plant foods you're eating involved killing animals too, so you're not actually absolved of guilt from the suffering of animals... and you're harming yourself in a way that no other living thing ever would haha, you're literally completely disconnecting yourself from nature over some ideology
Awesome video as usual. Off topic, can you show your spice rack/storage? Maybe I'm the only one but my spice shelf needs an overhaul so if you could talk a little bit about what you buy, how you store and anything else spice related you can think of to make a video.
Love this! I also create my own high protein bowl w quinoa, black beans air fried tofu or tempeh, pumpkin seeds, roasted chickpeas and soy sauce...oh and avocado...its yummy!
Could you mix green peas and edamame together? I want to try it out because I like the flavor of either but it might be a good way to add variation options. Ooh or kimchi in place of sauerkraut!
I am with you, I do not like quinoa either. I actually don’t like the flavor or the texture of it, which I think is weird because others say it doesn’t have any flavor.🤷🏽♀️ But my husband loves it so I’ll have to give this recipe a try. Thanks so much!
Good tip! You could also try to cook it in vegetable broth - that way the quinoa itself does not taste as boring :)
The same goes for couscous and buckwheat - beware the buckwheat will pop if left too long!
Also, tri-colour quinoa has more taste than just white quinoa. Make sure you use boiling water/broth after toasting or it will spit all over the place!
+ add one whole smashed clothe of garlic into the broth, then you get very tasty quinoa :)
But do you skip the rinsing of the quinoa, then?
I am here to help with the quinoa woes. My credentials: having a Peruvian mamá ;) First off: the package always give the wrong water to quinoa ratio which is guaranteed to give you mushy soggy quinoa. Thank you for the advice!
Thank you!!!
Ooooh, thank you!!! I will try toasting it!😊
thank you! this sounds like it'd be soo yum 😃
I might try quinoa again after these tips lol. I have never liked the texture but hopefully these tips help!

God, that tofu ricotta should be a 101 vegan dish for everyone. I can't believe how good and easy it is. Thank you!!
0:11 you're the best Nisha!! Every recipe of yours I've cooked was just perfect, thank you so much for everything ❤️

Another quinoa tip - if you miss the starchiness of rice, adding a spoonful or two of rice into the ricecooker with quinoa ( I use a 1:2 ratio). Also like rice- adding ginger slice/mustard seed/other flavorings is good
Also replace wheat pasta w chickpea/lupin/ other protein pastas or noodles with buckwheat noodles

This woman is a genius, that Advo toast recipe seems flavorful AF!

as someone who is currently pregnant and hyper focused on getting tons of protein (way more than the normal amount) i appreciate this!! ❤
You're quirky and weird and hilarious. Never change.
☺️ 🤗
I second that!
😂 the struggling face for lifting the 2 lbs dumbbell was hilarious! ❤
Agreed!!
She's an INFP personality type, I'd bet my life on it

I usually make the avocado toast with tahini and pickled vegies on top! These other is added in my bucket list! Thank you for sharing!
Nisha. AMAZING recipe. Every bite had a burst of all the ingredients. You are the yoda of new recipes. Thank you❤
I just made the Edamame Smash.
Thank you!
I've been exercising more regularly and was worried about my protein intake, I don't like taking supplements so thank you so much for these!!
I recommend trying out seitan if you have no issues with gluten :)
Yay 🎉
i LOVE your tofu ricotta recipe! we’ve been making it a bunch lately and having ricotta toast on bakery sourdough
Oh that’s so fun! I love it that way too with some pickled onions or carrots.
You might consider running the audio through a filter to cut out some of the background frying-pan sizzle. Your edamame toast recipe was really good. For the Asian-Inspired Noodles, I've made a very similar dish with Soba (buckwheat) noodles.
I’m so happy! I’ve decided to start weightlifting and I love trying vegan recipes so this is so perfect!
If I try the Edamame spread, I will try it with green garden peas instead of Avocado. Just because Avocado is less accessible where I live. Not the same, but probably also very delicious. As a bonus, this should even increase the amount of protein in this meal (37 instead of 31 gramms for two servings).
Thank you for this recommendation! I was looking for an avocado alternative, apparently they are pretty harsh on the environment.
The perfect video to watch this Saturday morning. I’m going to try the almond butter pasta today. Thank you 👍🏼
I tried the dip with edaname beans and it was delicious and a nice change from hummus.
I tried the pasta dish today and I can proudly say that I did okay. It tasted good. Thank you.
Thank you for delicious, easy, quick high protein meal options! I can't wait to try them all!
I love your sense of humor and recipes are always amazing!
This all looks so good! I make my food at work and if i'm on a big time crunch i could settle for the pre packaged lentil/quinoa microwavable packets at the store and just have the toppings ready to go!
I haven't even cooked these, but I can imagine the layers of flavor covering all my taste buds. 🤤Will make them soon.
Dude, seriously!! I love when a random video of yours appears and its as awesome a every 👊🙏
I always love your recipes! And I really enjoy your humor. The workout excerpt absolutely cracked me up!
you are so fun to watch... love all your recipes. Love to try these High-protein meals . Thanks !
☺️ thank you! My mom’s name is Neela!
Thank you.
I can follow this recipe for this coming week. Heavy training week for me.
Update: I just made tofu noodles 3:48 (VERYY GOOD!!)
Tried recipe two (Almond Butter Noodles) tonight and our guests were smitten! What a delicious and satisfying meal 🥰.
What a coincidence! I just made your amazing lentil curry recipe last night! You’re so fun to watch, thanks for these recipes!❤
Your videos are not only informative but adorable and fun to watch. Thanks for the videos and the channel!
i make a very similar recipe to the pasta one she showed and i love to add lightly pan-roasted chickpeas to mine! its got protein and carbs and is just such a yummy addition!
Hey instead of sauerkraut which a lot of people do not like, make pickled red onions! They pickle quickly (refrigerator type) and they are delish on a salad or would be a great topping for that dish.
I love dishes that do not require Heat as it make my apt too hot during the Summers. Can't wait to make this one!
I have made MANY of your meals. I love love love your videos. The food is amazing and I can actually make them. 😊 THANK YOU!
I notice you're using white quinoa. Would recommend trying red quinoa - it has an interesting nutty flavour to it. Would also recommend toasting it before boiling to enhance that ☺️
YES! Red quinoa is miles better.
I have always loved your recipes but I have never commented on how much they make me laugh. Laughter is important and I love your sillyness as you go! 🥰😂
Edamame smashed toast was really good. Tried on both Ezekiel bread and fresh sourdough. Topped with pickled jalapeños.
I think you're gonna have a sick stomach eating meat anyways lol
you're already sick in the head lol... the plant foods you're eating involved killing animals too, so you're not actually absolved of guilt from the suffering of animals... and you're harming yourself in a way that no other living thing ever would haha, you're literally completely disconnecting yourself from nature over some ideology
Exactly what I need in the new year, looking forward to try all of these. Thank you so much Nisha!
Really good editing and not also yummy recipes but also humour, that's my fav type of content
So thrilled to find your videos today! Can’t wait to try your recipes.
My husband and I are addicted to your tofu noodles & almond butter recipe
Could you mix green peas and edamame together? I want to try it out because I like the flavor of either but it might be a good way to add variation options. Ooh or kimchi in place of sauerkraut!
I am with you, I do not like quinoa either. I actually don’t like the flavor or the texture of it, which I think is weird because others say it doesn’t have any flavor.🤷🏽♀️ But my husband loves it so I’ll have to give this recipe a try. Thanks so much!
