She’s very smart, pretty sure she was salutatorian of her high school.
She comes across as insufferable. This is a personality type that makes sense if you are a 40-50 year old George Clooney who has amassed a fan base and engrained yourself as a sex symbol and persona that the majority of the country is aware of the journey of. Then these tidbits and stories are funny. When you are speaking like you have lived an entire life and you are like 19, anyone with a brain knows you are either totally faking it or have succumbed completely to the worst kinds of narcissism that teenage years can produce. It’s just revolting IMO.
No, you don’t have to act like a kid, but don’t come across as a total tool either like Zegler tends to. The stupid looks she gives interviewers, the over-indulgence in pronouncing Spanish words with a Spanish accent (your speaking them to an American audience. We get it? Your Latina), and the endless line “this isn’t the ___ you remember” (which she inserts for every character she plays apparently). Good lord. Self absorption overload. Earn it first at least. 😅🤮🤮🤮
Obviously I knew our girl who sang covers in her bathroom was going to reach these crazy heights but now that it's happening it doesn't feel real. Congratulations Rachel! The OG RUclips fans are so proud.

Imagine getting to be friends with Steven Spielberg at the start of your career, that's pretty amazing.
I hope Steven doesn't kick Rachel to the curb anytime soon. Everyone remembers the time when Steven Spielberg kicked Shia LaBeouf to the curb after he publicly apologized for giving people the misguided assumption that Mutt Williams was going to take over Indiana Jones' adventures at the end of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull during an interview at the Cannes Film Festival in May, 2010.
Shia had this to say about the movie:
“I feel like I dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished, you get to monkey-swinging and things like that and you can blame it on the writer and you can blame it on Steven. But the actor's job is to make it come alive and make it work, and I couldn't do it. So that's my fault. Simple. I think the audience is pretty intelligent. I think they know when you've made and I think if you don't acknowledge it, then why do they trust you the next time you're promoting a movie. Harrison Ford and I had major discussions. He wasn't happy with it either. Look, the movie could have been updated. There was a reason it wasn't universally accepted. We need to be able to satiate the appetite, I think we just misinterpreted what we were trying to satiate. I'll probably get a call. But he needs to hear this. I love him. I love Steven. I have a relationship with Steven that supersedes our business work. And believe me, I talk to him often enough to know that I'm not out of line. And I would never disrespect the man. I think he's a genius, and he's given me my whole life. He's done so much great work that there's no need for him to feel vulnerable about one film. But when you drop the ball you drop the ball."
The fact that Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon earned $1.236 billion dollars worldwide one year later didn't change Steven's opinion on Shia. I'm angry that Steven never offered Shia an apology for failing to appreciate his honesty.

Just saw West Side Story yesterday. It's such a beautiful movie. I'd highly recommend it!
Seeing her come so far makes me feel like a proud mom even though i dont know her. Seeing her grow on youtube to the big screen has been amazing and i cant wait for more to come from her. And knowing she got to perform in front of Sondheim, even if it was just during recording, must feel like an honor.

To those who are bothered by the fact that a minor was cast as Maria let me just say I'm sure Stephen Spielberg was careful - Zegler turned 18 a few months after she was cast and I'm sure the spiciest scenes were not filmed til after the fact.

Even if you had them send in tapes, and watched them all, that would take 7,500 days if you worked 24 days non-stop. They would not even look at 30,000 resumes.
Well, in your calculations you also assume that only one person was watching the videos. Even if they didn’t even watch half of the videos out there, the casting director announced they had over 30,000 audition tapes for Maria. I don’t think that’s a publicity stunt.
