You talk about privacy, however with Apples latest Siri policies, all Siri data is sent to Apples servers. Even if a customer opts out from helping Apples Siri. Apple employees and Apples contractors can still use a customers Siri data (transcripts data). The customer opt out option is only for customers Siri voice recordings. Now Google nest devices started adding in ML (machine learning) chips, the first was the nest mini, and the next was their recent Nest Audio, which has the same ML chip, and what this brings to the table is the device can learn to do some things locally on the device. So if you say "turn off/on xyz light", then the device can do that locally without sending a thing to Google. Where as everything is being sent to Apples servers if you use Siri. The new Amazon Echo 4the gen has a ML chip on board as well. So it will be interesting to see where Amazon goes with their ML chips? Apples HomePods have no ML chips on board. The biggest drawback of the HomePods is the locked down nature, and lack of support for smart home devices, and support for third party devices.
I have both HomePod and echo dot. Have preordered two new echo dots with time display.
Do the HomePod minis work together with HomePod? And can I use HomePod for intercom?
Definitely Apple. I don’t trust Amazon or Google crap.
If you want to use more smarthome at homekit you should take a look at Athom Homey, this works perfect!
like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
*I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*
Nobody talks about how it’s shaped like an Apple 🍎
Thank you! I thought I was the only one who thought this. It’s beautiful. I don’t care. I’m getting one! Hopefully its great. My showers and washroom time just got longer!

I think Apple missed a great opportunity to turn the HomePod and HomePod Minis into a home theatre system with Apple TV. Imagine if you could pair 2 homepods side by side next to a TV and 2 HomePods minis behind you to create that surround sound? In a world of smart speakers and Sonos devices, this would have been a very unique selling proposition for getting the Homepods.
Finally "Use a HomePod or stereo pair with your Apple TV 4K to create a theater experience with Dolby Atmos or surround sound right in your home."
It’s possible now.
@@Celisar1 is possible how? Apple didn’t announce anything…
@@marceloecalves through a software update, not that hard since their smart chips are fairly capable of most tasks they just missed the mark by not releasing & advertising it upon launch
You can pair Apple TV, will the 4K newest one with HomePod and HomePod mini, this review is clearly sponsored. Otherwise they wouldn’t have links for the Amazon product or through the video, I’ve unsubscribed to this one-sided sponsored video.
HomePod mini does work with the Apple TV, just not as a home theater like the regular HomePod.
I get constant stutters in netflix with my HomePod. Other 'Apps' work better.
HomePod mini because Amazon collects absolutely everything happening around an Alexa. Privacy still matters to Apple users and that’s what makes it the better device in my opinion.
I’m totally with you.
Absolutely. An Apple user would have to be insane to get en echo at the same price as a HomePod Mini. And the dot sounds like trash.
But how is Max Tech supposed to shill his Amazon links if you DONT go for Apple's far superior hardware?🤔
I have Google Nest, but I’ll sell them to get two HomePod Mini
@@marctech1996 Same shit just more expensive, I’ve had an echo for 2 years now and it does everything I need for $20
I love the new Design of the Echo device and calling "Alexa" is Easier and Faster, than calling "Hey Google" or "Hey Siri" all the time to Wake them up!
Well those 3 actually have the same amount of syllabels so basically it’s pretty much the same
Siri's response time and pauses drive me crazy.... and 50% of the time she just comes back with web links instead of answers.
@@DKStone24 not at all. I use all three and Alexa is the easiest too say. And saying hey Google is SO easy to stumble over.
I appreciate this video. I'm looking to jump in at some point soon. Would like more smart home capabilities in an all-Apple household, but HomeKit support is still nowhere near as popular as the others. The one thing that keeps me leaning towards HomePod is this: I have five daughters and the oldest one is named...Alexa. (And you can see where this is going...)
I’m really glad to have discovered this Channel. Awesome Quality Review’s.
I am going to get the HomePod Mini. Way more secure to me and I have mostly Apple devices and going to use HomeKit
Same here, plus I don’t use Spotify...we use Apple Music
@@ELBarbarro The amazon echo's work with apple music
Most of them work with everything aside from curtain exclusive things but I have a iPhone but use Spotify and such so lol home pod is just pricey
Hope you don’t use any smart devices
@@CodeXana What do you mean?
I went with HomePod years ago to do home automation. Stable, secure, with no hiccups or breaks. Exactly what I wanted when your talking my most valuable asset. I know Alexa might do more and support more, but it’s always iffy with skills breaking, apps updating in strange ways, and generally requires more tinkering. Not what I want to do when I’m home after work.
Def. getting the Mini. In order of decreasing importance: 1-dedicated home hub, 2-privacy 3-intercom, 4-music.
👍. Honestly thats exactly I'm going to say to anyone who asks me, "why would you ever need something like that?"
Can I use the HomePod mini as a speakerphone for my iPhone?
I've got Sonos speakers all around my home and for specific use cases, but, those have Alexa and our house uses almost exclusively HomeKit on our devices. We plan to pick up about 5 HomePod Mini's solely to use for the voice assistant and the ability to have it personalized to us and the ability to control our HomeKit devices.
What made you chose Siri over Alexa may I ask?
@@ITYSL Alexa is so broken and the app for configuration is abysmal. With HomePod Mini I use HomeKit everywhere. We also have many AppleTV’s and all of us own iPhones. For us, it’s mainly the home control since HomeKit works so well and I only have to manage one thing that sync across everyone’s devices and they can ask any apple device.
@@maxherman11 ah I see. I'm not personally in the apple eco system so I don't plan on getting a homepod mini
I have the same feeling as an apple fanboy. I have google, amazon and apple and so far in my tests, Alexa is my family's favourite for all the devices we can connect
Hi MaxTech, Which Apple watch size are you wearing in this video 40 or 44mm?

Congrats on 400K subs! You deserve it guys! Great content as always!
So would an HomePod mini sync with my Apple TV? I have Spotify on Apple TV and wondered if I played it on that, would HomePods around the house play serve as additional speakers?
I snagged an Echo dot last month for £1 as part of an amazon music deal and it’s great so far in my opinion
I need people to stop comparing the HomePod mini to the echo dot until it comes out and its sound quality is heard. The echo dot sounds like somebody is playing music through 2 soul cans and a string. I don't think apple would ship something as low quality as the dot
Yes, but for the price I could fill a room with an array of 4 dots instead of 1 mini (4 syncronized speakers instead of 1)..... that's what I'm curious to hear.
The dot connects flawlessly with any BT device, that is the huge advantage.. not blowing more money on redundant audio but instead using current home system. And the 3rd gen up is fine even for stand alone audio.
I think this is competing more with the new $60 4th gen Echo dot which has pretty great sound if you check the early reviews
The apple mini competes straight with the new Echo 4th gen because of the price range being the same, not Echot dot 4th gen.
@@eddyparker10 If that’s the case, then I can’t imagine the mini’s 1 speaker and 2 passive radiators can compete with the 4th generation Echo’s larger woofer and 2 tweeters.
And Apple would NEVER launch a product same price as it’s competition. 😂
I’d choose the HomePod, as it is more privacy oriented and has better ecosystem integration (iMessage, calling, device locating, Apple reminders and calendars). I use Apple Music so i don’t care about no Spotify support and AirPlay will work with all my Apple devices so I don’t have any need for Bluetooth expect when I use bootcamp. HomeKit is also more secure, private and even works without an internet connection (over WiFi so if your internet cuts out your smart devices still work). Plus Siri Shortcuts is kinda like the Alexa add-ons and it’s also way more powerful then google’s routines. For me I care more about the privacy and the integration with the rest of my Apple devices. It would be nice to see Bluetooth support though but I don’t see Apple adding an aux port.
Me too
Exactly. Fully agree with that👍
If you care about privacy you better delete your social media accounts, stop using search engines like google and bing and take the sun out of your iPhone and put it in a Nokia keypad phone.
@@RameezRazaRiaz99 Yes if you’re really serious about privacy you could just cut most of the internet out of your life but I’d rather take a middle ground, where I try to improve my privacy while still having a enjoyable experience. I do use DuckDuckGo over google unless I can’t find what I need. And I use iPhone because of the ever improving privacy over android and I know I could use a custom version of android but that’s too much maintenance IMO. And a non smartphone is also just to extreme for me and I really enjoy technology so I enjoy having a smartphone with cool features which I wouldn’t get with a Nokia.
@@jarboer privacy today is a myth. You have a google account, you use RUclips as a google service. All your data is already out there. What privacy means for apple users is that you have the guarantee that no one is listing or watching you without your knowledge. But there’s nothing more to the apple privacy than that. I personally use all apple devices and don’t care too much about privacy as long as my bank account details and money are safe. But it may be different for you. IMHO I’m already invested in the Alexa ecosystem and switching to HomePod is a pain not to mention the ginormous accessory support for Alexa and google home whereas HomeKit still lacks to this day. And being in the field of software and it I create my own home automation devices and they work flawlessly with Alexa but can’t work on HomeKit.
I’m an Apple fanboy but gonna have to go with the Amazon Echo or Google home mini here. Siri is by far the “dumbest” smart speaker and if I really cared that much about sound, I could get a high quality JBL, Bose, etc speaker at $100.
What does a high quality JBL mean ? 😃
I upgraded my Apple Air Pods to JBL ear pods, puts Apple air pods to shame.
were do you hear the music better in a smartphone or in the Amazon Echo Dot 4th?
Which one is louder and has better quality for music HomePod mini or the Echo 4th gen not the dot?
Coming from the audio world, I can tell you that the number of drivers means absolutely nothing. Driver quality varies tremendously. Good sound is all about proper engineering. Apple takes a higher profit margin on its products, so that factor may be what makes the Amazon products superior (Apple will have less money into parts). Apple will likely have superior engineering, but since they’re taking more profit, it’s very tough to say if these would be anything other than ‘different’ in sound characteristics. You can never sleep on Apple’s engineering. Even their power adapter which they’re no longer including with phones is the best measuring stock 5 volt adapter a person can find. At the end of the day, physics is a factor and small form factor speakers like this will never be absolutely amazing except at somewhat lower volumes (can’t move enough air).
Absolute great review. Thank you.
Thank you sooo much for this video. I’m trying to decide weather to get a HomePod or an echo. This was so helpful!❤ 😂

would've been so cool if it had a MagSafe charging base but you could take it wirelessly anywhere in your home!

Amazon definitely need to step up the user experience of their Alexa app.
Not having Bluetooth audio play back in HomePod is a huge bummer.

I’m fully Apple as of August. iPod touch, then iPhone, then iPad, MacBook, then I switched to iMac from PC (although I do use boot camp a bit). I’d just get a HomePod Mini for music, so I’m pretty sure it should be fine. Privacy helps too.
What's the difference from the echo dot and the iLive platinum besides that it's wireless
It's kind of an insult they just won't let you use Spotify even tho you're already spending $99 with them
If the sound quality is good, i am gonna buy 2 HomePod minis for my bedroom.
The sound quality seems to be amazing as far as reviews say. I think im gonna buy two as well.
@Star the big one is dumb and sound quality is kinda shit to much bass
@@supernova8948 I disagree, the original HomePod has superior sound quality than even 2 home pod minis. The downside is is that it’s more expensive than 2 homepods
iamnotadingleberry ok.. but it is not as smart as the HomePod minis the minis are 4x smarter than the original homepod
The sound quality is amazing on my 1 but 2 would even be the dream if placed correctly
If privacy is a concern, Apple at least says they care about it with some actions to back it up. There are some things missing from the HomePods, but I have no doubt that they'll sound pretty good. Also, if you're looking to get a regular HomePod, check BestBuy and get it when it's on sale for $100 off, it's a really good deal then.
I preordered the Echo 4th gen before the homepod mini announcement. It’s super tempting to switch to the homepod but no Spotify is the deal breaker for me. There’s still hope I guess.

Thank you for this video! For me it's simple, as you said as well: Amazon = NSA
Thanks for the video, great info. There is definitely a trade off with all assistants. Privacy and security are always a concern.....so you probably shouldn’t get any of them, have a youtube/google account, Facebook/instagarm account, or Amazon account...You trade that for the full functionality of the Amazon and Google ecosystems. I use all three platforms. I see quite a few people in comments saying they are going to buy multiple homepod minis.....at $99 each that’s alot of money to shell out and I would question the feasibility of that.....however, to each his/her own. I would love for Apple to offer a similar experience to the others, but they are woefully lacking. Speaker sound may be a factor for some and if that’s the case....The original Homepod, Echo Studio, or google home max would be your options if bose, sonos, or jbl aren’t your thing. I will be curious how the Homepod minis actually sell.....the Dots or Echo will offer deals and so will google. I hope everyone gets what they want...enjoy all.
Echo is great if you have an elderly parent that lives alone. I use the drop in feature for that and it's really good. You can set up a few in there house and can have instant 2 way communication with them. Just make sure they have Wifi.
yet no "speakerphone" function for regular/# phone calls.
What’s the difference in features between HomePod and HomePod Mini??
what color do people like more?
Using Google Home products for questions, calendars, reminders et cetera. And to control music to my Sonos speakers, that have Airplay support as well. Music service is RUclips Music. This all works very well. You can even set a certain Sonos speaker as the default music output for a Google Home device. No HomePod or Echo devices needed, which are both unavailable in my country and language.
Can I use apple home pod with Alexa app ?
Nice video what brand t is that’?
Congrats for 400k subscribers!
HomePod mini will definitely sound better but Echo will be better for literally everything else.
It’s better for the Apple ecosystem, like using iMessage, calling, locating devices, Apple Music, etc. Its worth depends on those factors as well.
The ecosystem in terms of being able to tie in really well with everything, But the huge thing is definitely privacy
@Requis The Demi God relax .. it was a typo. I fixed it.
Homebridge brings multiple non-Homekit devices to be available via HomeKit. Adds a ton of value to people moving to HomePod. I use multiple cheap smart devices with the Home app this way.

I just wanna know how a company like Amazon who had no experience with virtual assistants made a better assistant then Apple or Google.
They have insane expertise in machine learning. Heck they made the fucking platform that google assistant is built on. Though Alexa isn't better than google assistant, it is way better than Siri as they record audio to further train their machine learning model, which Siri doesn't do. I would honestly have an assistant that protects my privacy than a slightly better assistant
Lol Alexa is better than Siri for sure, but not GA😂

Do you think new features displayed like sending voice, showing directions when in the car, and “Hey Siri, what’s my update?” will be a feature that comes to the original HomePod? I have the big HomePod and I would like to get the HomePod mini as well
I have had Alexa devices in every room for years. However, last year I made the investment to put stereo pairs of HomePods in all the rooms where I actually care about audio quality--and I do not regret that expenditure; they are awesome--the sound is so much better than any Echo I own. Disclaimer: the HomePods were purchased from Best Buy on one of their many sales of HomePods for $199 apiece. Fast forward to the HomePod mini. I don't expect HomePod mini to sound anywhere near as good as the full-size HomePod (how could it possibly?) but suspect it will still sound far better than my existing Echos (last generation, not the new ones coming out now). So, I'll pick up a pair of the HomePod minis for rooms where I haven't felt the need to place (and pay for) full-size HomePods and will relegate the Echo devices to use as Alexa backup when Siri is simply acting too stupid for words--one set of Phillips Hue lights confuse Siri about 50% of the time, much to my eternal vexation--or when I need a device with a screen, as in the kitchen.
I really like my echo dot it's very convenient plus the mediatek platform offers good connectivity
I have both. I have 5 echo dots in my living room and two HomePods in my living room. Every other room has an echo show, bathrooms have echo flex. Bedroom has a homepod. I have google home in living room and garage. Google home, or nest home was a waste. I have bose soundtouch in every room that doesn’t have a homepod. Wife mostly used echo for my son, I use airplay. I use both for automations. In my car, I have wireless carplay and echo auto connected and I can use both simultaneously.
When you have listened to both, we can talk again !!. In the meantime, as far as the sound is concerned they are all speculations about the homepod mini

Interesting to compare Echo with 1 bass 2 tweeters to homepod mini with one driver. I think sound quality will go to Echo.
Yes Spotify is a make or break feature for me
Good review!!!
How do you know all without having the HomePod mini??
I know you brought it up briefly but it’s my number one reason for not using Echo devices and why I will be using a HomePod: security and privacy. The reason Alexa is so much better is because Amazon doesn’t care about privacy and routinely violates it. It’s a huge problem with security as well. Amazon playing fast and loose with privacy and security is why they have been so successful and it needs to brought up in these comparisons as more than a passing statement.
I’ll be buying the HomePod mini. You couldn’t get me to use any Alexa devices if there were free.
The lower price, size/ form factor and new features make the new mini very appealing to me as an apple device user. But I might consider adding on echo dot as well
Who has friends with Android devices? Or ones you would let control your music. I use both echo and HomePod because I am deep in Apple but do have some non-supported devices that I just add echos for and at $19 doesn't matter to have them just around. But for all my music needs it is HomePod and HomePod mini. I plan on adding at least 5 minis throughout my house.
I liked your video for such a great comparison BUT if I was suppose to go with smart devices and compatibility then I would choose Google environment. Don't give me wrong, I do use Amazon Alexa and if it wasn't for years of experience with Amazon devices, I wouldn't recommend Google as a base system for smart devices link.
This Black Friday, 2x big Echo Spheres for the price of the Homepod mini? Big win for Echo, I'm in this for the audio quality.
I didnt expect that conclusion.
Those who said how limiting smart devices are with HomeKit clearly hasn’t use Homebridge. I have 74 smart devices from Xiaomi and Tuya and both can be accessible through HomeKit via Homebridge. Therefore, I can control via Siri.
Uh, you can use it with your TV, but it probably won’t have as great of a sound as it’s bigger brother
The gen 4 echo ball sounds great everyone . $29 and worth it %100%
Great vid 👍
I wish they would do the mini and the echo in colors
The biggest issue is that a lot of smart devices are not compatible with smarthome app...
The only reason to buy this is if you are fully invested in the apple eco system or if you really want just a small speaker for music only
You had a little editing error there. But great info!
