I am Anthony Michael Hall’s age, and at the time, I looked like his character from Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, and it was HELL for me in that era. It was not a cute or good thing then. It’s cool in these times to be the high school nerd, because it’s come to that. In the 80s, it was a CURSE. We were tormented in school 😂 I love how people today make all of these comments today about how Brian is cuter than Bender and they find him cute, etc, etc, etc...but that was NOT the case for teenagers in the 80s. Kids were teased about being the geek from Sixteen Candles. It’s so weird how all of that is now different.

Back in those days every school had a Bender,an Andrew,A Claire and so on and so forth...I looked like Bender but acted like Brian. Nervous,easily intimated ..but definitely not as smart. I was and still am a pretty good writer though! But the Brian Johnson I remember was a straight A student named Jonathan. Tall,skinny kid..blonde hair...Super frickin organized! Well years had passed and I suddenly thought of his name! I thought I wonder what happened to that kid! Looked him up on Facebook ...Homicide Detective Metropolitan Police Department in Washington D.C! This kid graduated in 1995 and was already a sworn police officer in 2000. Worked his way up through the ranks..passed through detective and eventually made Sergeant! And to think this was the kid people used to give red necks to and throw spit wads at! I never did that to him...but I did witness how he was treated horribly. So sometimes if you just stay on your own course and let nobody but your own ambitions influence you...you will overcome all the odds and be something great in the world! I hope a Brian Johnson of today is reading this! Cool comment though man,very relatable!
As someone who’s still going through school, nowadays, nerds and geeks still aren’t accepted. It may be not as bad as the 80’s, but it’s definitely not considered “cool” to be smart and organized.
Megan McKenna You’re right Megan! Unfortunately that never changes! My strongest example is working a job,being a part of the work force. As you can see in my little picture there I work at a bakery. I’ve been there a little over 5 years now,I’m 43 years old and my wife who is 46 is one of our pastry chefs! We’ve been there this long because we do a pretty good job there! We follow directions,obey rules and regulations,fear consequences,keep things organized,come to work prepared. Not only are we often taken advantage of but we’re also considered lame by those who don’t take the job as serious as we do! I guess we’re the nerds and they are the cool kids. The cool kids have more friends at work than us. The cool kids call in sick and party on every free occasion! Their work is sloppy,they take shortcuts,skip tasks,never step up to any tedious task and then laugh at us when we do..But just as being a hard worker in school earns you a good education,being a hard worker on the job earns you not only great respect from your employers but also better pay and promotions! I’m sure if I take a look around at some of our staff I’ll find a jock (that would be our boss Tony) , A Brain ( Justin,a kid who recently started an advanced career in the United States Air Force) , A Princess ( that’s pretty much any of our front counter girls who work the sales line, A criminal ( that would be Albert who’s been to prison 3 times and has more DWI’s than I can count and lastly a basket case (that would be my wife! Just kidding!) Whatever you’re going through,stay strong! Work hard,Study hard and stay the course! Not only will you gain respect in the modern world but you’ll also feel good about yourself and feel accomplished! I tell ya those cool kids don’t feel so cool when they open their paychecks! To be fair Brian looks like a stereotypical nerd but during the filming of breakfast club him and Claire’s actress (the popular one) were dating IRL, so it’s not impossible for nerdy looking kids.
I kinda related to Brian more regarding his personality. I wasn’t the brain, but I was the good kid in general who rarely got in trouble ( other than fistfights). I would’ve asked what was gonna happen on Monday, and called out Claire’s conceited remark, et cetera.
Brian is so precious. I would do anything for this man.

This movie probably helped a lot of geeks not get beat up. It showed that picking on the weak and venerable isn't gonna make you look cool. Instead it makes you look like a monster. And nobody is friends with a monster. I mean it probably helped back then I don't know about now a days !!!

In high school in the late 80s early 90s, me and all my friends were all wrapped up in one. We started in all sports, smoked cigs and weed, the 80s action figures were going gone, goth chicks were so hot, and so were rich kids, the one LGBT kid, pink Floyd, G n R. NWA etc etc etc

it's the other way around actually, most of people loves Bender, I mean he's the obvious cool guy there, Brian is underated that he doesn't even got a relationship with one of the girl at the end.
