The AC 15 sounds better. I think with more tweaking they could sound closer. The MV50 has a compressed thinner sound on clean and lacks a bit on the highs on higher gain. But again, finding the sweet spot for the tone is a must. It's different for every guitar. Still planning on getting an MV50 as a backup to my AC 15.
Thx for this video! As You own(ed) the MV50 or the Superbeetle, do You have tested the amPlug series, too? If so, can You compare the NuTube sound to the amPlug sound?
I have one. That little sucker will blow out the bedroom windows...if you want. As usual, any amp is is subjective to whoever is listening. I chose the AC for its AC like tone. I put a mojo mojo in front, and got some really nice tones. Small footprint, is another reason I got it. I don't play gigs, so it works fine for me. YMMV.
clean, I think the MV sounded fuller, while the AC sounded 'sweeter'. With a lot of gain, I think the AC sounded like it could take it better. That said, the MV seems like it is absolutely worth the price. I absolutely love the vox sound, and to pair it with my Egnater would give me everything I want.
This is a good video for those that need a Vox for the studio. I have an AC30 and the MV50 is definitely on the same level (not volume, though). It’s not meant to be a clean amp, just an overdriven channel if anything. The only thing I miss from the AC30 is the more detailed eq section, but for everything else the MV50 has proved to be great friends with all my mics and cabs.
Gabe Maymi I don’t know man, I played on one at my local store and with the gain and tone rolled to nothing and the volume dimed. It was a great clean tone with great volume dynamic response and fullness. This was through the little 8 inch cab vox sells for these things...
Nice review. I appreciated that you attempted to keep things as close to equal between the two amps. I think the AC-15 came out the winner by just a hair. Just a bit more dynamics and presents with AC-14 in the tone department, but the MV50 held it's own. Considering the price difference between the two (as well as the compactness and connection options) I'd be more inclined to get the MV50, but I would love to own the AC-15 as well. Still a tough choice.
MV50 AC here is tested trough Alnico speaker. If you buy mv50 + Alnico speaker + build cabinet. It is very close to ac15c1 price. Additionally you get reverb + other stuff on ac15 which you do not get on mv50
for me, the AC15 sounds quite a bit better, much more organic, there is a brittle quality in some of the mv50 tones that I find grating to my ear. with more gain, it was less notable, but in top boost, I think the AC 15 would stomp all over it.
Thanks, nicely done! Tone and character of distortion sounds almost exact. Does seem however that the AC15 has some kind of built in reverb, the MV50 sounds much more present.
I just got one of these over the weekend. What surprised me about it compared to other "solid state" micro heads like this (aka Micro Terror) is that cranking the master volume actually creates more saturation, very "tube-like." I'm actually running mine with a Weber Mini-mass attenuator to get some real "tube-amp" sag.
pretty cool eh?! ya I'm not sure if the 'Nutube' powers the pre and power section, or if it's a hybrid of solid state and tube like the Orange Micros. I've got the Micro Dark
+Woodeso's Guitar Mods ya it didnt have the same thump, but I'll do more playing around with it. Just tried to get a similar sound level and tone. all that being said, I was super impressed with the sounds coming out of a clock radio display! 😉🎵🎸👍
Yeah for sure, it sounds good. Just not at all the same to my ear over RUclips is all. But for a small package like that, pretty damn impressive. I just think they probably have a bit more work to do to completely negate traditional valves.
Woodeso's Guitar Mods ya for sure. at over 100 dB in the room it's harder to hear a difference. also my left ear was ringing by the end of the demo. time for earplugs 😆
I don't know - I think there is a lot of nitpicking on youtube about how they don't sound that close - I think they sound damn close! Maybe because I am listening through a computer speaker - but think about it, a computer speaker is probably a good proxy to how the average listener will hear in a live band mix. I think she's a winner, and the possibility that Lando didn't have the depth knob on - and the low end growl could have been there in spades.
From these sound clips I preferred the clean tones through the AC15 where the wider range was more apparent, but to my ears the MV50 sounded a little more compressed (in a good way) for the more gain-y tones. Sounds like it has more gain on tap too. Out of interest, how was the EQ slider on the back of the MV50 set, flat or deep? Either way pretty impressive for such a small box.
pretty cool little box. and I was on the Deep setting. I didnt mention that in the video. They recommended deep be used on a small cabinet, so I went with that.
Definitely. Either way it sounds so much better in your video than a couple of others I've watched but I get the impression you've at least looked at the manual where others haven't! If it had an effects loop it'd be damn near perfect, you could whack a simple EQ pedal in there and really shape the tone.
ya there's so many variables as to why mine could sound better. I record at fairly loud volumes, since I'm fortunate to have a soundproof space. I go from an Audio Technica AT2021 mic, XLR into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, then into GarageBand. And the audio files used are raw MacOS AIFF files. I don't alter the EQ at all. Could also be the Jensen speaker is awesome :)
I asked the same question to a Sweetwater salesman. The answer was that they are not to be change but if they were to be replace they could be. The price I didnt ask.
Hello from all the way from Australia. I am a new sub to you cos I like your Vox video's. I have three Vox amps, A Pathfinder 15R, a AC15VR, and my new Vox amp, a AC30CH. Considering the AC30CH is the head version of the AC30's, I have pared it with a cab that I scored for next to nothing. A Marshall MG412. Anyhow, the main reason I got the head version of the AC30 is because it has an alternator switch that allow me to switch the amp down from 30 watts to 1.3 watts, and then down again to 0.3 watts........... And here is the but........... The amp has a second switch that allow me to switch from 8 to 16 ohms. I tryed to googled around and as of yet not found the mod I like to do, and if you manage to get your own AC30CH and work out how to do this mod I like to do, I would love to see you how to do it. The mod I like to do is to have the alternator switch work on both 8 and 16 ohms. Keep up the good work in the land of Canada.
I can't find many videos on kustom cabinets, do you recommend them stock or do the speakers sound bad? I am looking to buy my first cab and they are the most affordable and I was interested in their 4x12. I dont know how to replace speakers so are the stock ones acceptable?
hey check out this video I made using the Kustom cabinet and different speakers: ruclips.net/video/Kd83vbJFowU/видео.html Swapping a speaker is really easy. usually 6 screws and two wires.
I own a Kustom 4 x 12. Stock speakers are better than I thought. They don't seem to be very efficient speaker, they don"t sound super loud, but still plenty loud to play with any drummer I guess. They lack some high end if you are after some fendery tone they may not be what you are looking for. Otherwise they worth what you pay for.

The hum is tolerable, but not preferable and I really want to know if I should be returning the MV50 or if that's normal. I can't visit a store and try one due to COVID.
lando, that's a whole entire dynamic of guitar playing that you are missing.a gibson (or any other guitar with 2 volumes/tones) on the rhythm pickup with the volume cut and the tone rolled back is one of the best lead sounds you can possibly get.another awesome and practical way to set up a guitar for you to dial in a nice gritty tone on the bridge pickup for lead then set the neck pickup as a lighter rhythm and change between for light/heavy song parts
Hey Landon some of your cleaner playing on display here. I'm an admitted cork sniffing tube snob but I have to admit that the Bandit, the thr and a Vox pathfinder have changed my mind about SS. I'm certain I could manage with an SS quite happily. Trying to put the gear addiction aside and refocus on my playing. Peace
The MV50 got a lot closer to the AC15 than I thought it would and sounded surprisingly good under gain. So what does an MV50 set you back cash wise in Canada compared to an AC15?
hey there Tim, ya I'm keeping my MV50 for sure. I like what it can do. In Canada they sell for $279, but I actually got this one from Sweetwater.com. It was a demo unit and cost $179 USD. So even after conversion and duty, it was cheaper to get from the US. That's not common these days to finds a better deal in the US, but sometimes it's worth it if the price difference is that much. and and AC15 goes for $849 CAD.
Hey lando nice video! :) do you think that the mv50 could be used in a live concert and if it's as loud as a normal amplifier? p.s. naturally the mv50 should be used on a 1x12
i feel vox really could of just made 1 model of the mv50 if they just added a few more knobs. a boost button ,gain knob, the low, mid, high eq knobs and volume knob. added in a fx loop in the back, with headphone, aux, and Bluetooth.
@@landonbailey i think the Cambridge 50 looks cool, except the lack of adding an external speaker or having it just as a head. i love vox's innovation but i feel they are holding back and not going all in on making a near perfect modern amp for a masses. its one of those those where they have nutube technology and the patents to knock it outta the park, but instead are building amps missing many of main basic common key amp features. the mv50 has great potential and deffinaly needs a v2.
hey nice! I no longer have mine, but only because I used the funds to get a Tele Pro. Today my fav amp is the Mini SuperBeetle. I've done a bunch of videos about that amp :)
The A.C 15 sounds so much cleaner and more headroom. Not to much to compare to here, close.Only in overdrive does it get close . It would be ok for jams etc,but for a gig, just an extra amp in case something happens would be a life saver.👍
AC15 all the way, sounds much fuller and open at every stage. The mv is very Cool, specially for portebilaty, cool to have one as backup for your Main amp. You should have tested it into the ac15 speaker:) In my opinion: the ac10 Smokes them both. I have both the ac15c1 and the ac10c1 with a 210 cab, and the ac15 is collecting dust. Good job mate, very interesting:)
Alright whats weird is the ac15 in this video on clean sounded thinner and I know thats not right ive tried both the mv50 and the ac15 and the ac15 always sounded more full and thicker idk why on yours it didnt even when the company themselves did a side by side the ac combo amps sounded fuller and thicker it had to of been because the ac15 was cleaner then the mv50 if you could hewr it the mv50 cant go as clean as the ac15 even withb the gain on the clean channel at half its still clean so it would of been a closer comparision doing it that way because vox amps get thicker as the gain goes up even when you put the gain up on the clean sound it makes it thicker while keeping it clean so like zi said would of been a better conparison done that way but the vox 15 syill sounded better hut idk whats wrong with your audio but both amps period didnt sound like they do in real life and it didnt even come out on the mic yoy said the 15 had more growl and more bass yeah it did but on the clean sound I couldnt hear any bass something was off jn this video and the tone wasnt that good and I know how good a vox ac15 sounds and this video didnt do them justice at all seriously at all idk what was wrong but ive heard many videos and ive played the 15 many many times and it never sounded the way it did in this video both of those amps you played through today didnt do them justice it soinded bad tone was off mabye it was your editing or mabye your mic is really bad with tones idk just letting you know so mabye you can fix it
a te hey no worries! my videos are never about my playing, they are about gear mainly and how stuff works. I'm a rhythm player, and don't have lead abilities at all. 😆 thanks for checking it out.
I'm very sorry, but both sound very bad in this video. The AC15 maybe even more sterile and thin.. But I think that's due to the P12Q speaker, because that speaker is very difficult IMO (for me, it doesn't work at all). BUT I will give your video a thumbs up because of the Peavey Bandit (best version) in the background! Compare that to both these amps and it will kill them..
Well it seems they're both very nice .. just need to decide which is optimal for your situation BUT LANDO!!!! .. please tune your guitar/s, it is really distracting demo'ing any gear with out-of-tune instruments.
Oh damn! Nice build dude, looks awesome. Lots of people put up acoustic treatment like on your walls and call it sound proofing. I made the mistake of assuming that is all you had.
I have one of these as well as an A/C50 CPH. Except for not having an fx loop it's a sweet, little amp. Amazing really. Try adding the deep switch for a bigger sound
The AC15 has a fuller sound on clean but the MV50 held its own with the gain. The MV50 is very impressive for the price.
Dale Palmer ya the MV50 holds it's own. its has such a tiny footprint too. Ill have some videos about it soon

How expensive are nutube tubes and how long do they last? Are they hard to replace? I love the small light size of the MV50 amp!

Sounds pretty much the same to me, i do not know if the price worth it.
NACHOOFF hey there, the price of which one?
i liked the mv better...it was more clear and focused to my dead ears.
good job sir.
STEVE LEITNER cool thanks! really impressed with the MV50
Did you have the depth switch on?
+VoxPathfinder15R what is the depth switch? the EQ selector? flat/deep
Yes, did you have it in 'deep' mode?
+VoxPathfinder15R yes I had it set to Deep
Welcome back to stratland
Alright whats weird is the ac15 in this video on clean sounded thinner and I know thats not right ive tried both the mv50 and the ac15 and the ac15 always sounded more full and thicker idk why on yours it didnt even when the company themselves did a side by side the ac combo amps sounded fuller and thicker it had to of been because the ac15 was cleaner then the mv50 if you could hewr it the mv50 cant go as clean as the ac15 even withb the gain on the clean channel at half its still clean so it would of been a closer comparision doing it that way because vox amps get thicker as the gain goes up even when you put the gain up on the clean sound it makes it thicker while keeping it clean so like zi said would of been a better conparison done that way but the vox 15 syill sounded better hut idk whats wrong with your audio but both amps period didnt sound like they do in real life and it didnt even come out on the mic yoy said the 15 had more growl and more bass yeah it did but on the clean sound I couldnt hear any bass something was off jn this video and the tone wasnt that good and I know how good a vox ac15 sounds and this video didnt do them justice at all seriously at all idk what was wrong but ive heard many videos and ive played the 15 many many times and it never sounded the way it did in this video both of those amps you played through today didnt do them justice it soinded bad tone was off mabye it was your editing or mabye your mic is really bad with tones idk just letting you know so mabye you can fix it
ya I don't know. I have different recording gear now. did you listen on a smartphone or regular stereo speakers?
How does the MV50 stack up to the new super beetle?
I prefer the Mini Superbeetle. Check out my other videos, I've done a bunch with the SuperBeetle.
Lando27Music I’ve watched them all. It definitely seems the better amp but have never side by side heard them
the ac15 sound fuller, more open., harmonically richer. Listening in the studio on the mains
Dave Cebrowski I like them both but the edge goes to the ac15
Korg does own Vox.👍
I like watching demo videos where I play better then the guy in the video
+a te you should like all my videos then! 👍😆🎸
you...you responded to me... I'm sorry man. I didn't mean any disrespect
a te hey no worries! my videos are never about my playing, they are about gear mainly and how stuff works. I'm a rhythm player, and don't have lead abilities at all. 😆 thanks for checking it out.
😂😂😂
I'm very sorry, but both sound very bad in this video. The AC15 maybe even more sterile and thin.. But I think that's due to the P12Q speaker, because that speaker is very difficult IMO (for me, it doesn't work at all). BUT I will give your video a thumbs up because of the Peavey Bandit (best version) in the background! Compare that to both these amps and it will kill them..
Martijn van Spaendonck ya that Bandit is awesome for sure!
in the future please take your camera off auto focus
I've done that and had whole videos out of focus, so I wont :)
Well it seems they're both very nice .. just need to decide which is optimal for your situation BUT LANDO!!!! .. please tune your guitar/s, it is really distracting demo'ing any gear with out-of-tune instruments.
John Dornom lol. I actually tuned mid video. did you watch the video?
AC15 definitely
Sound proof lol
Mike Krenz correct! ruclips.net/video/kaKF2kzOCx4/видео.html
Oh damn! Nice build dude, looks awesome. Lots of people put up acoustic treatment like on your walls and call it sound proofing. I made the mistake of assuming that is all you had.
no worries! I've got another video that shows everything I used and that it's not just acoustic treatment in my case :)

what did I miss? 😁
The amps shit all over the MV's.
gross! :P
I have one of these as well as an A/C50 CPH. Except for not having an fx loop it's a sweet, little amp. Amazing really. Try adding the deep switch for a bigger sound
