    I might be wrong because I played this game ages ago but you could swing on the city levels and it will stick to the sky and you could do the 360 there, but it might be another spiderman game, or maybe a hacked famicom cloned cartridge, we had lots of them, like super mario 3 with infinite power ups, I always thought that was the default game XD

    I really tried to play this one with intent to finish, I even managed to get to beat electro, but I think the jank just wore me down when I ended up in dark rooms I couldn't see in.

    I used to love getting Sinister Six graphic novels from the library as a kid in the 90s so very much have a soft spot for the group.

    I was expecting you to say at the end something about how "While we got this game from LJN, there was an amazing Japan-only version which had mode 7 and raytracing... ON THE NES"

    I had this growing up. Never could beat it without a Game Genie; my sister and I could just about get up to Vulture on a good day, but that was it. Also I know we did 360 swings by screwing around in Sandman's stage (the brown mine-looking one), but yeah, it's much too finicky to learn how to do it on purpose. This sure is a weird one!
    This is the first time I think I've heard someone mention that Bits developed it too. I could swear they developed some of the Game Boy ones, which were definitely better than this, so I found that bizarre. Why would they do at least a little better on weaker hardware. I had to look it up. The first, Amazing Spider-Man, was actually done by _Rare_ back when they were doing contract work for LJN like Wizards and Warriors. Amazing Spider-Man *2* and *3* _were_ developed by Bits though, so I'm not going crazy. And I firmly believe ASM3 is a better game with better controls, music and presentation than this. Really weird how the same developer tackled multiple 8-bit Spider-Man games around the time and had such scattershot quality...
    Great review as always!

    I think the only Spiderman game I ever played was the Atari ST version. Broken game due to how it was really really difficult in narrow indoor areas to move properly and ended up either dying or just destroyed the joystick out of frustration. This NES game looks less broken, though also less interesting. I am a bit surprised about the 1992 release date. The NES could do better than this.
    Thanks for the video.

    These games really helped sell the licensed =bad idea, and I dont mean just ljn, tho that really wasn't that ironclad a rule. Took a while for ol web-head to get a good game, like dreamcast.

      I enjoy some of the 16 bit beat'em ups ok. Spider-man definitely thrives in 3D though.

    • @ggbetz
      @ggbetz 11 месяцев назад

      Oh of course, but I mean 8bit days. Outside of like Ninja Turtles, Bucky O'Hare, Sunsoft Batman, Tiny Toon Adventures all showed licensed didn't have to be bad, people with the Marvel license didn't get the memo i guess (especially in graphics)

    LJN was about quantity over quality, and it really shows with most of the license games that they released. Their advertisements in magazines also showed that, as a company, they were very delusional by lying to audiences about how great their games were when a lot of them were clearly trash. It makes me wonder how much effort their production teams actually put into testing games like this before shipping them to the public.

    Like you… I so wanted to like the LJN Marvel games. You really nailed this one. Frustrating but can be taken down in 15 minutes once you accept / learn what it expects of you. -Sigh-

    I rented this back in the day and finished it. Found it pretty easy except for those few parts where you need the web slinging to go through.
    I disagree, I think the game looks mediocre, although not entirely bad. Those graphics are ok for 1988-89 but not 1992 where games were pushing the system limits, like Little Samson that was out that same year.
    Despise all that I still had fun playing the game.
