Tip: After drinking the prep liquid , avoid sitting down so much and walk around so that the bowel movement comes faster. I made the mistake of sitting around and once I started to walk i had to go, this is because your stomach muscles are working
Jellyo I stayed at a hotel the night before as I live a good distance away from my hospital. I drank my stuff and then just chilled in bed watching tv. I had no problems it it working. The information booklet said it would start working between 3-4 hours. I was running to the washroom (with a 7 poop lol) within an hour. And was fully empty by the next 5 hours when I had to drink my second cup of prep.
I have my first colonoscopy on Monday (unsure what I have- possible crohns or uc) and I’m so scared 😞 watching your video has really calmed me down so thank you for that. I start he prep in the morning and I feel like it won’t be as bad as I thought.
The prep is the hard part. When I was first diagnosed they didn't put you out for the colonoscopy. OMG it hurts, the air they pump into you hurts sooo bad. My doctor was all like yelling at me to quit being a baby, I wanted to cuss him out but you kinda gotta be polite to the guy with a hose up your ass. Now that they put you out it's a piece of cake. The old preps were so disgusting, I couldn't choke them all down. The one my present doctor uses isn't that bad though, Movi-prep. I've been through this like 30 times. Instead of waking up early for the second dose I usually stay up late and do it before I go to bed
I see you get it done at the new Humber hospital. I get a colonoscopy at least once a year and you never get used to the prep. I can totally relate to the freezing in the middle of the night. I prefer to stay awake during the colonoscopy it actually is not as bad a s it sounds. If you are awake they use a pediatric scope (thinner) and you can see everything on the monitor. Also you can just drive yourself home and you feel normal after the procedure.
Hahaha I did a sigmoidoscopy awake! You're right, it's not too bad, but I don't know if I could do a whole colonoscopy!!! I'm actually at the Oakville hospital, it's brand new so I'm sure they are super similar.
I would avoid eating any fibre right after. Eat something easy until your whole digestive system calms down. I learnt this the hard way. I ate fibre right after and was very very sick. Be warned some also get awful cramps afterwards also. I certainly did. I do have chronic pancreatitis though so this may be why I was more sensitive.
Thank-you so much for this. This is the second CY vid ive seen where the person is much younger than me. Well done for being brave and many thanks for videoing this, I;ve got my CY (my first in my life) the day after tomorrow. Prep juice starts tomorrow :(
I go for my first colonoscopy tomorrow, I'm 17 and I'm currently doing the prep, it's so horrible and I feel so sick and weak but I can't wait for it to be over tomorrow!
I had to drink 3 liters of it! Fasted the entire prep day and half next day of the procedure. Tasted like salt water and made me gag. Just watching you drink it made me nauseous! Luckily i washed it down with massive amounts of lemon juice and gatorade.
Thanks so much for posting this, girl! Very informative. I'm actually getting surgery soon, too. I am wondering if you could explain more about what it was like to get put to sleep? This is the part that freaks me out!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!
Hey! being put it sleep isn't scary at all! So they will give you an IV in your hand or somewhere on your arm. and they will put you on the bed and roll you into the colonoscopy room. they will tell you to roll onto your side and set you up. then they will give you the sleepy drugs with a syringe through the IV. Usually i'm talking to them while they are doing it, then i just fall asleep half way through my sentence - haha. I cant really feel it going through the IV. sometimes if its cold liquid, then you kind of feel it being cold, but thats about it. I have done a scope where they asked if i wanted to stay awake for it, and I did! it was kind of cool, but def uncomfortable, I would def rather do it while im asleep. If you're really against it, im sure you can request to do it awake :) But if they do give you the sleepy drugs, you are out for sure, no way to fight it - ahah.
Chicken bone broth is an absolute lifesaver during the prep! I honestly didn't think it was all that bad of an experience. I'm getting another one this year so I'm mentally preparing though lol
My first colonoscopy was my most horrific experience with it because I was still in the throes of my first ever UC flare-up. It's awful to do prep when you're the absolutely sickest you've ever been and feeling like you've aged 30 - 40 years inside. ☹️
You’re right! It wasn’t bad at all! I ended up using apple juice for the prep 😂 and couldn’t even taste it! It does get old having to go to the bathroom so much but I got over the hunger pretty fast.
(very good!...) The prep. is to clean the inner-bowel, basicly for the biggest part an oral clisma (lol) I have them at the operating room. It hurts too much and they have to lay on my abdomen with a few people. The last few times they put me to sleep .... (it's unbelievable with me...lol) . I think you're doing very good. Always try to stay positive !.. You seem to be in good control... Very good imo, keep up the positive energy oké !... #onebigfamily

ahah getting put to sleep isn't bad at all. They give you an IV, and right before they put you to sleep, they inject a few syringes of the sleepy drug into the iv and they tell me to count down from 10. its so fast i dont think i get past 8! you can't really feel it going in, it's just a little cold so you can feel cold going in your arm, but that's it. it's also a drug where you're asleep, but you are also cooperative. so if they need to move you, they can, and you're not just a dead sack of potatoes. I remember kind of waking up when they pulled a sample the first time, felt kind of like a dream, but for the colonoscopy that they just looked around, I didn't wake up at all. it all feels so fast. you don't HAVE to go to sleep. but for a full colonoscopy, I definitely recommend it. it's very uncomfortable. I did a sigmoidoscopy wide awake (where they just go up the left side of your colon, so not very far in) it was bearable and really cool to see, but I don't think I could do a full colonoscopy awake - especially if they were going to take samples.
Omg I HATE the prep! I always throw up... But I am not usually allowed to eat anything they tell me. Weird. I want gummy bears!!! Jealous, Lol. I LOVE your channel so much! I was so happy when you replied to me on your remicade video! You are my favorite youtuber! I love you! I usually mix that gross stuff with gatorade, but I HATE gatorade now. And I usually use the blue one. EW. LOVE YOU SO MUCH OMG!!!!!
haha yeah gummy bears are a loop hole! they are technically liquids. like jello! Awh that makes me so happy!!! I'm glad you like my videos! As soon as I get some more time, I'm going to upload more!!
Omg! Next time I will tell my mom that I need gummy bears so I can have some solid food! I love you so much! Omg I can't say it enough! You seem like the COOLEST PERSON EVER!!! You are like the only person I could actually connect with! Thank you for talking to me!
I took Suprep over 2 hours ago and now I’m on the bowl. It took exactly 1 hour for it to effect me after I drank everything. That stuff works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are so cute! lol and I don't mean that in a pick up manner although you are also very beautiful🌹but the way you talk and your playful mannerisms and the way you stayed cheery through the whole preparation you were awesome and entertaining to watch. I just had this done today or should I say yesterday .( just realized Ifs after midnight ) the worst is the stuff you gotta drink and the no food part of course but all in all it was ok and the staff were awesome. Anyway I hope you're doing great today is and thanks for the funny video lol
Also on one of your other videos thank you for talking about that app about tracking your GI I am from America so I downloaded it and it is help me majorly with a few problems I've been having. So thank you so much beautiful.
It will be 2 years for me in August being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis ..I've had 2 cases of cdiff ..and still can't find a med that works ..think I'm going ask for infusions next .. which has worked for you . I'm desperate tired of living like this ..not to the point where I wanna hurt myself just tired of being tired all the time ..but ur videos help alot ..so thank you for doing these and I hope your doing well
Awh thanks Steven! I'm so happy these videos are helping you! That was my intention when I made these :) keep trying to find something that works for you! There's a new biologic called stelara that would be amazing if it helps you. It's just a shot instead of an infusion!
I know this vid is 5 yrs old, but i just had my 1rst one today. I chilled mine and drank with a straw.....helped. headache, reflux, starving and yep peeing out of your butt. Im glad its over!!!
It depends on what kind of colonoscopy you get. I'm in Canada too. If its going to be a fairly quick one,, I ask to not be put to sleep. You should try asking if you can be put to sleep for your next one, they might let you.
I was diagnosed with UC when I was 9 years old so I know everything you are going through. I hate that full gallon of prep is the nastiest thing ever I would rather go with a Fleet enema or magnesium citrate talk to your gastroenterologist about it they could probably give you some better stuff than that massive gallon of crap. And then also I never got to have gummy bears when I was going through my scope so you're pretty darn lucky that you got to have something like that. And about 12 years ago I went to the surgery to have my colon removal and take down which honestly I'm glad I went through I was having a way too many problems with my gut.
+Steve Aimes haha. Yeah... I know what you mean. I was awake for my sigmoidoscopy and he was showing me things and saying "yeah see all these ulcers and the redness here and here" and I was like "ohhh yeah sureeee I know exactly what you're talking about... Just hurry up and get this out of my butt!" Meanwhile I have no idea what he's talking about. It's tough to see the difference if you're not looking at a flared up colon and a healthy colon side by side.

I had one today to see if I had UC but turns out I don’t. I’m a little confused now however, because I bleed real bad but they didn’t suggest if it could anything else...
Thumbs up if you’re watching this either on the pot or drinking prep

Haha thanks +Paul Martin !
Tip: put the prep stuff in the fridge a few hours before you drink it.Going for my next colonoscopy next week.
Doing my first prep at home today. The powder I got was a laxative called Merilax, and thankfully it's tasteless lol.
