- Watch me diagnose and fix an annoying "hum" in a tube type amp or record player. 1963 GE (General Electric) RC1641 console record player with Garrard AT6 turntable. This unit will be up for a general restoration if I can get this 60 cycle hum in the speakers figured out.

How to fix a 60 cycle tube amplifier hum, pop or buzz
#vintage #recordplayer #tubeamplifier
I can’t wait to see the full restoration video of this beautiful unit.
Good job fixing the hum by the way.
That big waxed paper capacitor is the power supply filter capacitor, it's job is to filter the rectified power coming from the rectifier tube into steady DC, the reason why you're hearing a loud hum is because that waxed paper capacitor has most likely gone bad, which is most likely why it's bulging, if you replace it then that will fix the loud hum.
Yep, that's what it was. If you watch towards the end of the video you can see how I replaced it, and with what.
I am trying to work on a 246-1 chicago webster Traverl record player, Mine is humming. i have a loose wire.. MY amp hums..I am tinkierng with disk cutters, Cant get anything working. Motor parts are failing. Wish i knew how to do this as local repaire place near where i live is giving me a hard time..refuses to help me, leaving em in emotional distress, with my antique equipment..I am all for restuffing the caps..with new ones..
How do you discharge and check for voltage in thisr types of capacitors
Any advice on cleaning guitar amplifier they hardly work but if I wiggle them 🙏
But if you wiggle them. What?
No offense but this person is a technician's nightmare, " maybe it is this" 😅
Yes. A lot of people smarter than me.
Well I think you should give yourself more credit. I think you did extremely well for a novice.
You eliminated the obvious first
then moved right in and did a great job. Congratulations 👍. Use a solder strip to mount the caps to for a neat job. I was amazed at your skill level. If you could only see some of the attempted repair jobs that have came to my bench.
You did an absolutely great job at that repair. I've 43years experience as TV/Radio/Phonograph Repairman. Again, Great Job, Great video, and Great content 👍
Keep up the fantastic videos.
I did tidy up all those connections. I made a harness so future replacements would be almost plug and play.
And your videos demonstrating your perfection?
