    Even as a Habs fan, I'll be the first to admit the Bobby Orr was the greatest player of all time, hands down

    Living in NY during the 60's and 70's, I was a NY Rangers fan but as a hockey fan, how could anyone not marvel at the spectacular talent of Bobby Orr. Younger fans who never saw him play can't really appreciate his wizardry on the ice, they merely look at stats and say Gretzky was the best. You had to see Bobby to really understand how dominant his presence on the ice was during his prime.

    Can you imagine being two months away from your 31st birthday and it's like "oh yeah, we're going to retire your number, give you a sendoff for the ages, waive the waiting period for Hall of Fame induction (where you'll be and are currently the youngest HOF inducted in major North American sport), and you'll be introduced as 'the greatest player in the history of the NHL' for the rest of your life?"
    ...and you're genuinely humble for the past 40+ years afterwards!

    a few ears back at a charity event in Boston, a fan told b\Oobby Orr she was so sorry for him that his career ended early. Bobby told her to shed no tears for him and that he was the luckiest guy in the history of the world to have the 10 greatest years of his life in a city that adored. Kinda tough to root against a guy who is not only the greatest ever, but a real gentleman as well.

    To finish my thoughts: I absolutely love Gretzky, Lemieux, and Howe, the pleasure that they gave me over the years, as a devoted Hockey fan, was unbelievable, but Bobby Orr was the greatest hockey player to ever play the game, PERIOD. If anyone doubts this, they can get a copy of the article from Beckett's. After reading that short compilation of number 4's feats, THROUGH ALL FACETS OF THE GAME (THAT IS THE KEY), no one could successfuly argue that he wasn't the greatest. Thanks again!

    Not until later did i realize how lucky i was that we (while poor in the town of Lewiston Maine.) I was brought up by my mom ..As a single parent she gave every ounce of her being to us..We did have all to much, but we had cable lol..I was able to watch the Bruins during this time..I was 11 years old...I loved the Bruins, not realizing that Bobby would have shortened career do to bad knees...But wow!! He was the best!! Love you and this team forever..

    This brings back some great memories. I was born and raised in South Easton Massachusetts. I was 9 years old when Bobby scored the flying goal against the blues. I was hooked ever since and listening to channel 38 to watch the games. Thank you so much for posting this.

    Thanks SO MUCH for posting the entire retirement ceremony. I was born and raised in New Haven, CT and most of us adopted the Bruins as we only had a minor league team, the New Haven Blades. I don't think that there is or ever was a sports personality that was more loved than Bobby Orr. I had always believed that he was the greatest to ever play the game, then about 10 years ago, Mark Doll wrote the argument in Beckett Hockey monthly for BGO being the greatest, and it solidified it in my mind.

    Seeing Peggy Orr cry tears of joy for Bobby, and perhaps some tears of sadness too at his career ending -- very heartrending.

    silverfox4743, I couldn't agree more that Bobby Orr is the greatest to ever play. You know how I know, I am from Ottawa and last year Daniel Alfredsson had the best year of his career. He was 37 years old. Bobby Orr achieved everything before the age of 30 when injuries stole him from us.

    @artistseye1 , If there was ever any ONE event that I wish that I were at --------it would be that night!! RUclips is my favorite website and I am so thankful that this event was posted on RUclips in its entirety!!, it is a joy forever for all of us Bobby Orr fans. No one in sports history has ever gotten a longer standing ovation, BECAUSE--------no one in sports was ever loved as much as RGO.!!!

    @Halospartan1337XD, Bobby Orr is alive, he is 63 years old now. Aside from being retired, it would take someone from the Boston area to know what activities he is involved in now. I remember that he coached the Old-timers game at the all star game some years ago, I remember that the ovation that he received was unbelievable!! I was born and raised in Connecticut but have lived in California for 40 years so I don't hear much about him anymore.

    @arlichar11 :
    I of course agree 100%, but trust me, I have read many articles by hockey writers who do NOT think that he was the best to ever play the game. For example, The article in Beckett Hockey that I mentioned in an earlier post-------it wasn't just Mark Doll writing an article that Orr was the greatest, that was a SERIES, where hockey writers put forth their arguments regarding the best ever. The same article(best ever) was written about Lemieux, Gretzky, Howe, and Roy.

    @rstp354 Eagleson definitely deserved all the boos, though at that time, no one fully knew of the extent of Eagleson's appalling shenanigans that resulted in Orr missing out on ownership of 18% of the Boston Bruins, not to mention other illegal misdeeds for which "The Eagle" was disbarred in Canada and the US, as well as removed from the Hockey Hall of Fame.

    @silverfox4743 i dont think ive ever seen or met anyone that tried to argue that bobby wasnt the best ever...
    only ppl who know nothing about hockey would be so foolish to think that he wasnt.... if he had not hurt his knees his accomplishments would have been even more ! i wasnt alive when he played but any videos ive seeen have all been WOW and and amazing! not to mention the interviws and accolades he get from fellow players and hockey ppl

    I agree with Rick!!! Eagleson should be still in Jail this day or send back to Russia back to the Soviet Union "CCCP" when the cops/solders tried to get away right after team Canada tied up at 5-5 before Paul Henerson score the winner 34 seconds left This is right before he Royaly Screw Bobby Orr big time in 1976!!!!

    arlichar11, (continued). Martin Brodeur defeats the Roy argument,!, and the other 3, Gretzky, Lemieux, and Howe STAND OUT in other writer's minds as AMAZING, and they were! (but just in a few categories)-----HOWEVER, MATHEMATICS RULES, and when ALL categories of statistics are utilized, then Robert Gordon Orr emerges as the best to ever play the game. It is not even up for discussion, in my opinion, I say, get out the statistics and compare ALL players in ALL categories!!!
