My grandfather was a coin dealer that just passed away about two years ago I’m a big fan of all your videos I told my grandmother if anything I would trust you helping get rid of everything so when the time is right I will have her contact you
Thanks, Daniel. Your videos are priceless to unseasoned numismatic collectors. Older than you, I have a heartfelt connection to my coins. There is a time in our life; one must prepare to say goodbye. Great downsized beginning steps.
Hey Dan, just wanted to say that of all of the channels related to numismatics, I enjoy how you don't pull any punches and try to increase views by claiming this coin can change your life or any of the other fluff! Thanks for keeping it real man and the great content you provide!!
I hope videos like these go to the people who need it most - those who don't know anything about coins. I'll go to coin shops, and I see entire type sets sitting in stacks for Morgans, Peace, Walking Liberty etc., and whoever sold them made no special treatment for the key dates like 1916, 1921, etc.
A video I missed Daniel ! Great advice ! Yes, we would like for our families or friends to continue on with what we have enjoyed and have passed down to them but cant force anyone to carry on what we were interested in. They have their lives also. Help them in ways we can as the suggestions you have given and let them decide.
My grandfather collected and had a small collection. My father inherited the collection but doesn't care much for it. When he passes away I get the collection. I'm not selling but I'll add to it and pass it on to my son.
Great advice Daniel. This same logic also applies to other things people collect such as guns, art, books etc. one of the things I’m planning on doing shortly when I retire is cleaning out all the “stuff” that I have managed to acquire and keep the “good stuff” only. THEN make lists with basic instructions on what is or may be valuable and how to sell it if they want when I die. Also if I live a long time post retirement I may end up selling what I know they won’t want and enjoy the return myself.
Your thoughts and ideas are always very helpful and appreciated. I really enjoy your videos and care you place in your efforts to encourage beginners. Thank you Daniel!
This video has so much information. Excellent. I learned a lot. I didn't know the Grey sheet was that amount and going to subscribe. Another reason to watch your videos. Always ! Thanks again Daniel👍👊🙏
My personal opinion deals with the person who collected the coins...make an inventory. This helps those who inherit and in the event of theft. Just a thought.
Thank you. Wish you had. Been there when I sold my silver. My grandmother saved some old silver coins and left them to my mother. When she died she left it all to me. Not much left except copper and paper. Have a few notes from the 1800’s and a bit of silver I save to remember my grandmother. But what I do is pick pennies for fun and luck.
Hi Daniel , This is a great help to me I haven’t inherited, but will be leaving to an only child and to really understand what to cull to prepare so the child doesn’t have to is priceless ! My collection is extensive , but alas probably 2/3 rds not so special and this video is full of just the right information so I can make things easy for my family when the time comes. ..............hopefully a long time from now 🤔 Thank you again for another hands on kind of education !
I would take it to a dealer. Coins grade from about good to uncirculated. To sell yourself on ebay could be a big mistake. You could have a low grade coin worth a lot. 1916 d mercury dime in about good can still fetch a couple hundred dollars. A 1909 s v.d.b. Lincoln cent in about good can fetch several hundred dollars too. Unless you completely don't care take it to a dealer.
This info also can apply to Canadian coins I imagine. Or someone who has a mixture of both USA and Canada coins and bills. I think shipping the collection to a dealer with a good reputation is the easier way to do it. There are some dealers that take the whole collection and don’t just cherry pick the better ones.
Question: How do I find a list of coins to fill out my coin albums that are blank? I have folders for cents, nickels, dimes and quarters. They are partially filled in with the dates and how many were minted. I have searched but can't find a list to print and glue in my albums. Thank you for all your helpful videos.
THINKS DANIEL. GREAT INFORMATION.MY GRANDPARENTS WERE LEFT MY UNCLES EXTENCIVE COIN COLLECTION WHEN HE PASSED BUT BECAUSE HE LEFT NO WILL THE CROOKED LAWER GOT IT ALL BUT ONE PROOF SET.SO LESSON TO BE LEARNED.
Hey Daniel, relatively new coin hunter here. I could really use an experienced person like yourself to send pics to of cool varieties/errors I've found. Need help to discover value, where to sell, how to store.... things like that. I am reaching out to you because you seem to care greatly about numismatics and appear to me to be extremely knowledgeable on this subject. Thanks for any help you can provide to me.
@@CoinHELPu thank you for responding so quickly. I just have more questions now. Like where do I send them. How will you send them back. Would I have to travel to you. Can I mail them? I could use help guessing the mint state they're in as well.
@@wisconsincrhunter5614 I don't appraise coins found in change. I will look at a coin for someone if they post it in my coin forum. coinauctionshelp.com/forum/index.php However, I don't accept submissions like this or I would have to charge per coin.
Do like I am going to do. My son will be the executor of my will. I have willed him my coin collector as his fee for handling my estate. He knows I enjoyed collecting coins and I know he won't sell the collection. I'll let him worry what to do with the collection when he is gone. LOL
Daniel When I'm gone I'm so afraid that is what is going to happen to everything I own. Maybe they will keep part of it but I have my doubts. I have talked to my sons and they really aren't all that interested. I do have a Grandson that is interested and pretty knowledgeable about coins. I have three sons though and I would love to pass it down equally to all three of them. I tell them about your channel. So very confused right now. Very good video. ;D
I don't understand why people worry. Just be as prepared as you can. Can't force family to want the coins. So if they don't want to learn about coins concentrate on teaching them how to sell them when you're gone.
It seems the collection has to be high value and quality coins to auction them at Heritage or Legend. Most Legend auctioned coins are CAC and go for high prices. I've never won any auction at Legend. Are the modern clad proof sets from 1971-1994 worth about 50% over face value? The clad Mint sets can be spent for money or deposited at the bank.
Thanks, Daniel. I guess if you pick up a guy’s inherited collection, which may take you a few days to go through if it’s large, your insurance covers it while it’s at your place?
Note dealers are allowed to offer 25% of value then able to maximize the price they sell at why would we ever sell to a dealer and why is a value listed but never recieve the value and why the price of spot is never the price you recieve.
Why do cion sales have to pay for employees, lights and rent which we do not contract for but to sell a product for resale also why do we have to payfor production as in mining , and fabrication on coins o er a 100 years old that have been in circulation over 1 hundred years.
It’s business 101. If you want the full retail then sell your coins yourself. You become the dealer, pay your taxes on your sells, sit on the coins until they sell, pay your PayPal or credit card fees, packing material and your time listing the coins for sell, advertising, dealing with customers and packing and shipping the coins. If you want all the money then be willing to do all the work. It’s not as easy as you think.
This is very good advice for family members who usually don't know the value of coins, and get ripped off, or don't care. Your the best!!
@@jh5881 I do that by mistake,.

I hope your son loves coins and know about them. Most will just sell it for whatever a dealer will pay.

I didn’t know about the EBay fees calculator. That’s a big help, thanks Daniel.
I already told my loved ones (if i am hit by a bus tomorrow) to not bring them to a pawn shop and to sell them individually on eBay

Another great video DANIEL. Didn’t know about the eBay fees calculator.
I wish I would of known about this years ago. My parents had small collections and sold to collectors by the executor of the estate.
As always you give out good information.
Thanks for the info Daniel, I think I’m doing things pretty well based on your advice. Looking forward to meeting you next week! God Bless...
Where will you be? You coming to the shop?
If you determine some coins are fairly valuable, what about auction houses like Heritage? I do see you mention them briefly at the end.

I would use a price guide and make them in excel spread sheet or even word document, size them small and print.

Please do a video on rotated die Lincoln pennies and how much they will cost depending on the degree of rotation thank you
You can look those values up on Heritage Sold auctions, most cents are common with die rotation.
You need to know what you have. If U.S. coins get the gray sheet. Do not approach a dealer in ignorance of what you have.

Actually many dealers will only pay face for those common sets. It is a shame but that is where the hobby has gone.

i want to sell my coins. How to find helpers?
Simply donate the collection to the Antonius Britannia benevolence fund at. . . .
I might be too much a novice but are wheat pennies and eagles numismatics? I thought numismatics are the art-type coins. Can you explain?
All coins and currency is numismatics
