Outstanding video! I just bought my first fishing kayak and have been trying to figure out a way to anchor it without the whole trolley setup. This is what I am going to do. Thank you!
Fishing the NE Florida coast, I quickly learned the importance of some type of quick release anchor setup in strong tides and winds. This one is great for it's simplicity and true quick-release. Thanks for this -- I've got some redesign of my system to do!
Yea I had a quick release on a trolley with my sea ghost. But this RipTide Thunderbolt has a low profile and I wanted to avoid drilling if at all possible.
Awesome tips, I just got a kayak last summer. I didn’t want to spend the money for a pedal drive since I wasn’t sure if kayak fishing would be for me. Even fishing small lakes the wind pushes me around like crazy. Almost tipped myself when my anchor got snagged because I didn’t understand the quick release system on my yak at first. Figured it out but this still helps
Great setup. I use the same arrangement with a long rock climbing quickdraw to clip to buoys as well. When I hook up as per this style the rope released and off you go to try and pull the fish away from the structure.
Love this idea! My only question is how do you get anchor back after usage? I get that it floats but I don’t want to release every time. Do you simply find a way to reach back and grab it? I guess you could paddle backwards so the anchor moves forward.
Hey Dan , Brian from Clovis Ca.been searching for Kayaks for my Grandson and I everywhere in the area until I found you ,we'll be heading to Lodi soon.watching your videos for 5 hours plus ,learned so much.also subscribed and hit the bell.lol thanks
That's pretty cool you don't need to put in a trolley but, if the current is coming behind, the anchor is now back where you, well I, can't reach it so, you have to release the anchor then turn the boat around to retrieve the anchor? What about when you want the anchor near the bow? Like if you want to be facing into the current or wind?
Ahh I was trying to figure out what kind of cleat that was called. Thought it was clamp! Turns out it is called a 'clam cleat'. Good idea, going to try this on my Titan 10.5!
i just have a super cheap sit on top 8 footer. that i want to start using at this small 3 mile runoff of the main lake here. without anchor i just use the current to drift me down one side of the lake while i actively fish. then when i paddle back up i just troll the bait. is a anchor really worth it? or do you think the way im doing it covering water is better? the bad thing i cant reach inside mine. so idk how strong installing anything with screws from just outside would be. though this system look to me nicer then the trolley system that people cant quick release from that i see on youtube. though i do like the trolley how you can do front or back. since one of the main banks here is basically where all the wind comes from. so maybe have this same single rope hooked up to front also and maybe one more of those quick release ends going the other way.
Thank you for your videos. I am trying to decide on a fishing kayak on a budgete of 1000. Could you do another video for 2019 to help me find one? Again, thank you for what you do.
Just a little hint, I noticed Moo Moo tightened the D shackle at around 3.00. If you get a small length of tie wire and tie it through the eye of the pin and through the D shackle it won't come loose and you won't loose your anchor.
You said you need a quick release in case yo get a snag so that you don't get pulled under, are you talking about your pole, person, or entire boat and gear? Is this a thing that only happens with kayaks?
One question i have is this. What do you do about getting the anchore snagged between large rocks, presuming that you have those along the delta and what not?
This mushroom style anchor tends to not get stuck. Otherwise if your using a grapnel style anchor you tie off to the bottom of the anchor and run a zip tie on top. IF you snag you can pull hard and snap the zip tie and pull the anchor up from the bottom. That works most of the time.
An example is take one pound weigh and put it in hole at ten feet. Hook a a rope and he horse just walks away and then put a fifty foot rope and put it in a hole and the horse can barely get it out. Th same thing applies to anchors
Also just subscribed. Good luck on 15 thousand. I live in savannah Ga but still want to enter the giveaway. I know it costs a lot to ship b kayak, but I would love a cool gismo from your shop.
Thanks for this idea. Every other vid I’ve seen involves drilling many holes which I’m loathed to do. I’ll try it. Thanks again.

Thank you!
Moo is so awesome, and such a great ambassador for our sport and our fishing team!
Thanks Dustin 😁

That extra line under the current tip blew my mind! 😮
This is what i needed! I was about to install a trolley(that I didn't really want to do). This should work perfectly. Thanks!
There is ways to do quick release with a trolley, but you get a lot of lines involved.

This is great. Quick and simple. Thank you for sharing.
Great insight that makes sense why the anchor line needs to be 2x's the water depth. Thanks

This is brilliant. Also will try using this along with Scotty Trap-ease. Hope it would be helpful especially in pulling out heavy crab traps.

Was wondering how I was gonna set up my anchor system, thanks and really thank you on the explanation on the length of anchor line
Great video and great information! Thank you both!!
Great tips thanks for sharing with us.
Big thumbs up.

Its coming. Waiting on the 2019 Vibe and the Crescent Lite Tackle. Should be out by the end of March.
Informative and makes perfect sense 👍
Finally!! I have been waiting for this!!! Thanks guys!!
Simple concept, but so much good info.
Glad this was helpful 😀👍

Back in my seafaring days we'd call this a "nine line bind". I am NO kayak pro but if this isn't a cluster phuk it'll do until one shows up.
Excellent video! Do those quick release cleats work with Paracord?
Yes. They have lots of sizes to match the diameter rope you use. Para Cord works fine though.
Great Vid as usual.... I hope to integrate that into my new Yak as well.
Thanks Moo!!!
Awesome 👏
Where can you buy that clip?
You said you need a quick release in case yo get a snag so that you don't get pulled under, are you talking about your pole, person, or entire boat and gear? Is this a thing that only happens with kayaks?
Can you put a link where we can find that clip? My google-fu must be weak tonight
Brilliant

Yes, like Dan said mushroom anchors are much less likely to get stuck and the areas I usually anchor for Sturgeon (delta and bay) are mud bottom.
Something to think abt
I found the clam cleat on amazon im hoping this will work.
What is the diameter on the poly rope ?
An example is take one pound weigh and put it in hole at ten feet. Hook a a rope and he horse just walks away and then put a fifty foot rope and put it in a hole and the horse can barely get it out. Th same thing applies to anchors

Sweet man. You know Savannah Canoe and Kayak? I've always been a fan of those guys.
No anchor trolley 🤔
But good idea for a quick release
Hey dan do you sell the omega rod holders..?
Damian Westcott yes
Seems like a pain in the ass dealing with all that rope
This works for kayaks w/o an anchor trolley.......this video describes a different set up ruclips.net/video/z8yh_Gps3g8/видео.html
Nothing quick about it.
Excellent idea! Thanks for sharing!
