The accident was a devastating blow to Morrow's family, friends, and colleagues, as well as to the wider film community. It raised serious questions about the safety protocols in place on movie sets, particularly when it came to stunts and special effects. Many in the industry were left wondering how such a tragedy could have occurred, and what steps needed to be taken to prevent similar accidents in the future. In this video, we’re taking a look at what happened on that fateful day, as well as the long-lasting effects that it had on the film industry. In the aftermath of Morrow's death, there was a widespread push for new safety standards and regulations in the film industry.
Actors, directors, and other film professionals spoke out about the need for greater oversight and accountability when it came to stunts and special effects, and many advocated for more rigorous safety training and on-set protocols. Studios and production companies also faced increased scrutiny, with many questioning whether they had done enough to ensure the safety of their employees. Over time, the film industry did begin to make significant changes in response to Morrow's death. New safety standards were put in place, and safety training for actors and crew members became more rigorous and comprehensive. The use of helicopters and other dangerous stunts became more closely regulated, and many in the industry began to take a more cautious and responsible approach to filmmaking.

In Memory of My-Ca Dinh Le (age 7), and Renee Shin-Yi Chen (age 6) !!!...
Amen amen ❤
Morrow was such a great and under rated actor.
This was even more outrageous than The Crow, or Rust.
Vic Morrow was a favourite Actor and we watched the Series Combat when I was young. It was a shocking tragedy.
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
I didn't know that Vic had premonitions. I have had some myself so I believe it. The accident that took his life was so horrible. I'm so sorry for his family.
As a side note, Director John Landis chose to the two young kids from a nearby talent agency because the Screen Actors Guild did not allow their members who were 16 years of age or younger to work past 9pm. Since John Landis wanted to shoot the scene at night after 10pm, he went around the SAG and hired these two kids. Steven Spielberg and John Landis were good friends. Spielberg also voiced his concern to his friend about the risks posed by the scene. After this accident and the subsequent criminal and civil trials, the two friends never spoke to each other again.
I grew up watching Combat and was devastated when i heard of his death - Praying his smiling down on us, wherever he is 🙏🏽😔
As a boy, I was a HUGE, HUGE Combat! fan! I played Combat! (army) all the time and I was always Sgt. Saunders! I was on my honeymoon in 1982 when I heard of his tragic death. I was so shaken that I almost wanted to cry. RIP Sgt. Saunders!
I still watch combat now. It is on some channels still. I watchef it tonight. God Bless Vic and those two little children that passed in this tragic happening. RIP always,
Us too! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
I grew up eith vic morrow in combat. He such a wonderful actor. My dad and brother loved the show too. And anything he played in also.
The photo of his head and torso is in a book called “Fly By Night” by Steve Chain.
they cleared the crashing chopper, but it's top rotor fell sideways and split all three of them in half (VM and the two kids). horrific 😱
As a youngster, I used to rush home from school to watch my favorite TV show, Combat!!!! I know he will be remembered as Vic Morrow, but to me he will always be Sgt. Saunders. What made Combat so good was the fact that all the actor's were relatable and genuine; I will always remember Cage, Kirby, Doc, Little John, and Rick Jason as the Lieutenant. Sadly, I read that Rick killed himself.
Fun stuff, thank you so much for sharing your life story. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
When they were in a demolished French town. There was a French woman searching for her baby amongst the ruins. Vic and his guys were helping her and so were the German's. Turned out there was no baby, but showed caring between us and them!!!!@@FactsVerse
I loved his turn as ROY TURNER in THE BAD NEWS BEARS. It was one of his best performances. I watched that TWILIGHT ZONE movie in 1983. I had no idea an accident took place which took Mr. Morrow's life until my Mom told me about it. What a horrific tragedy. He was taken from us too soon. 😔😢
Vic was a true keeper. May he rest in peace.
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
I remember when he died what a tragedy
So true. May Vic find peace.
Of all controversial events that each took place during production of a particular film, this is easily up there in the Top Five. Vic Morrow and the two children didn't have to die... and John Landis shouldn't be allowed to get away with this nearly half a century after the fact.
totally agree the director caused the.deaths and never spent one day behind bars dick peabody little john from combat explains it all he was at vics funeral the family was discusded by the directors attitude there do the deep dive on this story there is much spin big combat fan myself from the first airing now at 72 this story is still tragic
Vic Morrow was some character Never knew He actually predicted his death in a helicopter . Really a very intense actor . Combat the series wouldn't have lasted without Sgt. Saunders......
All the times I’ve seen this movie and I never knew he and those children died while making those scenes. Smh 🤦♀️ this is so sad
Combat is still seen on RUclips, and gains new fans, was also released on DVD set
You were a real hero RIP Vic morro i loved your rugged look ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The helicopter that crashed was owned by my grandpa, the pilot Dorcey Wingo was employed by my grandpa as well, Western Helicopters Inc, from where the helicopter was rented was owned my grandpa and helicopter company Rocky Mountain Helicopters.
My twin brother and I were staying with our him and our grandma for a couple weeks, when in the very early morning of July 23rd 1982 the phone rang at around 3:45 am, it woke me up and I could hear the alarm and the sadness in my grandpas voice. He was a WWII B-17 (Flying Fortress) Bombardir
From 1943 - 1945 and this was just as horrific to him as the things he experienced while serving in WWII
I was 4 years old, there was a palpable feeling of deep sadness in the air, and as a child it felt like it could be cut with a knife. It was a feeling that made me scared.
I walked into the living room, my grandpa had already finished call, he was sitting on the couch hunched over just a little bit, his hands were pressed on his face, my grandma was rubbing his back I know now she was trying to comfort him. I asked if everything was ok, my stomach felt sick seeing my grandpa in that state.
My grandma walked over to me, I asked if grandpa was sick, she said there had been an accident with one of grandpas helicopters in California and said not to worry, and that grandpa is fine, he’s just a little sad., and then she gently put her arm around me to lead me back to bed, my twin brother came out too and she said if we go to sleep we could have a treat in the morning.
Not only did this accident devastate my grandpa that three souls were taken (two of which innocent children) but also it was his helicopter and his pilot. He was devastated.
He wasn’t sure just yet if it was a problem or not with the helicopter and if so, their deaths on his hands. Three innocent lives were taken, it shook him to the core.
I’d like to note that if the helicopter was found culpable for the accident, the FCC would have revoked his companies flight licenses and he and his company (he built from nothing so many years prior with his brother) would be shattered and he would be ruined.
This accident sent a shockwave through my entire family, as well as a great sadness for everyone involved, we held no blame for anyone, it was a tragedy and a tragic accident.
Thankfully after a lengthy and intense investigation, (our family on pins and needles for almost a year) the courts found Dorcey Wingo (my grandpas company pilot) innocent and the helicopter was found to be in perfect working order. It was bittersweet to say the least.
Up until his death just a few years ago, this accident haunted him. When I went to visit him in the hospital (his health was not doing well) he had his head turned looking out the window and I could sense that same feeling of sadness filling the room. He turned to say hello, and I asked how he was feeling. He said “ohh, the same old.” I could tell something really deep was on his mind. Ands he just said without pause: “I wish I never started that helicopter company.” Tears were streaming down his face. Tears from one of the strongest people I knew and loved.
A man that had seen and experienced some of the most terrifying events during his service in WWII and seen countless men torn to pieces in front of him by the bullets of German fighter planes. His own grandfather was a Jewish immigrant born and raised in Germany.
I’m giving only a sliver of the extraordinary story of his life. However in that hospital room on that day, all he wished for was to not have started his helicopter company. That day the deaths of Vic Morrow, Myca Dinh Le, and Renee Shin-Yi Che weighed heavily on his mind. Maybe they would be alive if he hadn’t started this company.
I reminded him, that if he hadn’t started that helicopter company, 100’s and 1000’s of lives would have been lost.
Because you see, he and his brother had pioneered the air ambulance helicopter service. They alone retrofitting the first civilian air ambulance helicopter service with many many more air ambulance helicopters to follow. You might recognize the name on many of the helicopters at hospitals all around the United States. The air ambulance service they created is called “Life Flight.”
When I reminded him of this he seemed to relax and the said “ohhh, I guess so.” His spirit was lifted, we talked for a little while he shared some old experiences he had when he was the sheriff of Moab, Utah. Then I had to go, and gave him a hug (my grandpa was a man’s man, a leader, an innovator, an entrepreneur, a man who for others could come off very intimidating) but at that moment he had tears in his eyes and said “I love ya, please drive safe.” I said the exact same thing back to him with humor, he got a little kick out of the lame joke. I said goodbye, and drive back south to California…he passed away 2 days later. Love you Grandpa.
I don’t know why I’m writing all of this, it’s cathartic in a way, tragedies do happen, loved ones pass away without any kind of warning. Be sure to always keep your family and friends close.
Be sure to let the ones you love know how much they mean to you, encourage storytelling with all of them, there are gems of experiences you may never had heard of. Because within moments they could be gone.
I hope very much that all the others that were also involved and/or affected by the Twilight Zone tragedy, that they have found peace, and find comfort in the company of their loved ones. That goes for you too whoever reads this 🙏🏼✨
R.I.P. Vic Morrow. ✝️🙏🕊♥️😭
HE WAS A GREAT MAN/// HE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN
There wasn't any reason to even use kids. Vic Morrow should have been carrying dummies. In fact, a stuntman should have been carrying dummies. He would have been in a better position to avoid the crashing helicopter, especially since he wouldn't have worried about saving the dummies.
Vic was a very versatile actor who could act in anything, from cowboys to soldiers. I still remember the day he and the two children were killed. Try explaining to a 7 year old that Vic and Myca were decapitated and Renee was crushed to death. After finding out, I started screaming! Myca was 9 days older than me and Renee was a year younger. My condolences to the victims and their loved ones. I will NEVER watch a John Landis movie! RIP Vic, Myca, and Renee🙏😪✡✝️❤
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Vic. Made us miss him more. Which of his roles appealed to you the most?
@@FactsVerseI liked him the episodes he was in "The Rifleman", in the episode of "Bonanza" when he saves Adam and Ben Cartwright from being hanged, Sgt. Saunders in "Combat", and as Artie West in "Blackboard Jungle" . He had a great deal of talent and had many years more to give to the industry. Thank you for your kind words and compliments in my response.❤
Why is Sean Hannity in the thumbnail lol
Correction: the helicopter pilot name was actually Dorsey Wingo, and was not in Dirty MaryCrazy Larry.
I loved Vic Morrow in Combat.❤❤👍
One of our favorites too, you've got taste! We miss Vic 😥
I loved him in Combat too. Such a great show.
Shocking death incident of Vic Marrow. I am watching all his series Combat now. I had watch it late 1964, i was only 8 yrs old watching wd my father favorite movie Combat.
he actually served in the Navy after he dropped out of high school
He was my idol when I was a little girl
Great lifestory of him thanks.

"Roots" didn't mention his role as an overseer who severely whipped Kunta "Toby" Kinte. He and Ben Vereen had to give interviews about the scene. And had to make sure to viewers that they were in fact, friends.
Studios use their money & clout to avoid jail for Landis back then & Alec Baldwin today.
You can't compare Baldwin to landis
Baldwin was having an affair with his victim.
What Landis did was far far worse. Doubt it ever crossed Baldwin’s mind that he could be firing a real gun
You're right, Landis was told by multiple people leading up to and during(!) the scene that it was too dangerous, but he kept pushing.. @@ReanimatorsMutilations
I believe that Morrow did have a premonition of his death; Mr. Lincoln had a dream of his death. I believe that Landis and his crew are guilty of this "unfortunate accident " I hope he is haunted by this.
One of my favorite actors. When he was in a scene he was center of attraction. Someone should have paid for the accident
Well said, we strongly concur! Thank you for watching our content and for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see?
I was eighteen years old when this happened, I learned about it the following day through a local newspaper.
I did not know who Vic Morrow was, only his beautiful daughter Jennifer Jason Leigh (“Fast Times At Ridgemont High”).
Despite this tragic incident that took three lives, remember the other senseless deaths in Hollywood over the production of a damn movie!
* A stuntwoman was killed on set while they were filming “A Vampire In Brooklyn”. She fell from a controlled height during filming, but missed the airbag on the ground to catch her.
* A cameraman was killed on set of the CBS TV show “The Dukes Of Hazzard”. The truck he was in, with the filming equipment on back, lost control and rolled over at a high speed. The cameraman was crushed.
There are several filming deaths directly linked to Hollywood, and a vast majority are not accidents in nature, but pure stupidity and a complete disregard for human life and safety.

I'm sorry you're really off on this one, Oh Vic always wanted life insurance but I have first hand of this accident.the whole thing was recorded..first Viv and the children were hit with the blades and cut in half...the Children were not even properly employed and were not suppose to be even on the set at the time again all of the directors and directions to the helicopter pilot were recorded..so the Directors and the Studios new all us Union Members who knew they were in the wrong Gave our unions more control and raised our money paid on Dangerpus science a production assistant cout nolonger touch a film camera our names were upgraded to Camera Engineers..The Stufios also changed labor laws so Children were better protected and created the use of more "" Twins "" to solve long shooting hours the Directors and Studios basically bought them outa PROCECUTION and hail time....the bad thing some of the.implimentation were soon being overlooked such as the Damage to child stars...I left the industry by taking a leave of absence from my Union and so I would keep my ranking I then became a Combat Photographer who went to Iraqi...
Thank you for the information and thank you for your service.

Lesson number one.
Pronounce Vic Morrow’s name correctly.
PLUS he should get his facts straight : at 0:45 he says that Morrow "starred in the critically acclaimed film THE EXECUTION OF PRIVATE SLOVIK" ... well NO ! That was Martin Sheen ! Dude, a simple search on imbd would have avoided that mistake but I guess it was too much to ask.
Vic Morrow he was the best I remember watching Vic Morrow in combat was my favorite show still is there was nobody better than Vic Morrow that’s all I got to say😊 3:36 3:44

Very interesting, thanks for sharing this info. May Vic find peace 🙏
Morrow's daughters received 35.5 million dollars, and the oldest daughter Jennifer Jason Leigh reportedly spent her share of the insurance on drugs and cheesy investments.
Jennifer is actually the middle child.
Also, I'd read that Vic cut
her out of the will or insurance
because he disapproved
of her nude scenes in "Fast Times...".

Landis was at fault. Justice was not served, then or now.
He was awesome in the bad news Bears it’s hard to play a dislikable character was that much charisma
last I heard John Landis works overseas now, wonder if Hollywood dumped him after this
Naw, he had all kinds of success after Twilight Zone:
Spies Like Us, Clue, Three Amigos, Coming To America, Beverly Hills Cop 3, etc. He just eventually moved into being a producer rather than a director as most directors do as they get older, focusing on television.
No doubt he directly contributed to those deaths and I'm sure it hangs over him to some degree to this day but he's 73 now...he was never a "Spielberg," mostly focusing on comedies and horror. Just had his day and moved on.
Dang it, I missed it by a few minutes
