  • We've all heard of the Twilight Zone. The Iconic series would have an ill-fated movie spin-off in the 1980's. An accident on set leading to the death of the actor Vic Morrow and two children.
    The Twilight Zone was a trail blazing sci-fi series created by the legendary writer Rod Serling. It was a world away from anything on TV at the time with the airwaves choked with shoot-em-up Westerns and alike.
    Over 5 seasons the initial buzz began to subside and the show was cancelled. It's legacy lived on however, leading to the show being revived several times. It also lead to the creation of an ill-fated movie spin off in the 1980's.
    With segments directed by several up and coming talents, it would be the portion directed by John Landis that would lead to tragedy.
    00:00 - Intro
    00:47 - The Twilight Zone TV Series and Rod Serling
    02:45 - Decline and Cancellation
    04:44 - Warner Brothers Begin Plans for a Film
    07:02 - Vic Morrow is cast
    09:20 - Vietnam Set and Dangerous practices
    11:43 - Filming of the ill fated scene begins
    13:21 - Aftermath

      That's synonymous with liberalism the ideology of capitalism. Contemporary liberals will posture about caring for others. However, much like their contemporaries of old, they only care to do so within the constraints of capitalism. Therefore their self interest and profits come before the lives of others.

    What really gets under my skin is just the jovial, juvenile way John Landis acts in interviews for TV specials and documentaries when one of the biggest, bloodiest tragedies in film history he was responsible for is still dangling over his head like the sword of Damocles... and he acts as though it never happened with the tone of his voice and the look on his face when it clearly did!!! I understand that we all have to get on with our lives and not be burdened by past mistakes of our own doing, but something as extreme as this is NOT something you just sweep under the rug!!! If I were a filmmaker who had made a mistake like THIS, I wouldn't be so crass and callous about it, certainly WOULDN'T pretend it didn't happen - if anything, it would be MORE than enough cause for me to accept both blame and guilt for the crime and quit filmmaking altogether!!! That the parents of the children were THERE when the tragedy happened and saw their own children practically taken from them along with Morrow with their own eyes after being falsely reassured by Landis of no danger is MORE than merely heartbreaking, it's purely MORTIFYING on a deep and personal scale that I doubt ANYONE would be able to stomach!!! That it's not just him but a lot of people in Hollywood who know all about it yet tiptoed around the issue just to save their own hides and careers is just as cowardly and undignified as those who knew about Harvey Weinstein's crimes yet didn't openly speak about it publicly much earlier before #MeToo!!!

    • @TRINZINI
      @TRINZINI 2 месяца назад +2

      In his interviews, Landis manipulatively keeps repeating the word "ACCIDENT" as if he's trying to convince us and himself that that's all it was. Man, it was no accident that he illegally hired those two kids and put their lives (and Vic Morrow's) in jeopardy when there was absolutely NO NEED TO. (The close-up of Morrow running with the kids could have been shot with a few windblowing machines and, with good editing, no one would have seen any difference and everyone's life would have been saved).

    Landis's abhorrent lack of remorse is typical clinical Narcissism. They are always the victim no matter how their actions affect or harm others. What a horrific tragedy on all levels. The director and producers were knowingly breaking the law that put these children in the middle of this tragedy and yet the justice system provides no consequences. I'm confident Carma has found J.L. and will continue to shadow him till his last moments.

    • @scootermom1791
      @scootermom1791 5 месяцев назад

      That's exactly what I was thinking: narcissist. Everything is everyone else's fault, so why SHOULD he feel remorse? That's probably what he thinks considering his callousness in interviews regarding the accident. He should have been criminally charged and imprisoned. Maybe that would have given him a dose of reality.
      Instead, he goes on to have a successful career, which he didn't deserve. Narcissists tend to get away with a lot more than they should which only enables their behavior. They put on the charm to avoid punishment for themselves while blaming others instead.

    It is so bizarre and heart stopping as to the timing of the actual accident. Morrow and the children were in the precise spot to be killed when the copter blade came down. Had Morrow been two feet behind that point or two feet in front, the three of them would've probably survived. I was so saddened by this. Horrible, horrible thing.

    Though Landis (somewhat) successfully buried his gross negligence, I've heard there are people all around the film and television industry who refuse to work with him today because of what happened on the set of _The Twilight Zone: The Movie._

  • @allys744

    Of course this was a horrific accident that happened. But that doesn’t mean it was no ones fault. Landis was the director and, I believe, a producer. He
    1. had a scene involving live amo when they had characters using weapons because, I guess, it was cheaper than dummy bullets or special effects
    2. hired those kids under the table, knowing that they were legally not allowed to film so late
    3. He was obviously partially responsible for putting all three of the victims in a dangerous setting, so close to real explosions and a giant helicopter just 24 feet above them
    If he wasn’t put in jail for negligence and manslaughter, he absolutely should’ve been booked up for illegally hiring those children. What’s worse is that he even showed his smug face at all three funerals of the victims. If I were a family member, in my grief, I would have him BARRED.

    Oh I didn't know there was two channels, I am already subscribed to the main channel, and now I am subscribed to this one!
    I really think Landis shouldn't have had a career after that, not only should he have spent some time in prison, but never work on any movies ever again!
    I can't help but wonder if The Twilight Zone Movie did so well, because of what happened, with people wanting to see it because 3 people lost their lives, I mean people's fascination with death, is the reason horror and action movies and shows are the most successful! Especially slasher films like the ones popular in the 1970s-80s - 90s on up!
    I mean it can't be for the acting or great character development and writing/directing!

    Those poor kids! Children dying in tragic accidents always hits me so much harder than adults. Somehow I suspect if they had been well known or white, he wouldn’t have gone on to have the career he had. I have barely heard about this story and vaguely thought they were on the helicopter when it crashed. This seems so much worse somehow.
    This story makes me think of the story of Judith Barsi I think her name is. She would be a good story for this channel to cover. That poor girl.

      You people just have to insert race into everything to let it be known that you're either an oppressed minority or you're an ally & help throw stones at white people. No it would not have changed anything if those kids were white. Who the hell jumps to that thought when hearing this, your mind is sick. Try looking at the person, people are more than their race.

    • @mikerope5785
      @mikerope5785 2 года назад +6

      Aggrevated manslaughter is nowhere near a life term and it never will be. The reason being that the intent was not to kill the actors. The intent was to ignore safety to get a good shot. For example if you were to show a frank disregard for other people's safety by using a mobile phone while driving, and 3 people died because you were distracted and caused a fatal accident, you would get between 10 and 30 years, depending on the area of the world you got charged in. Manslaughter is not murder.
