I meant to comment on this when I first watched it. Been a fan of the channel for many many years. The things you review, and how you review them is very unique to the rest, and it's great to see you are still making great content. I picked up a few of these d20's last summer and have been carrying them around ever since with my kids (we all battle and compare what we have and connect them to unlock other eggs). It's pretty fun to fill up your in game save and try to raise all the Digimon. Plus the colosseum mode is pretty neat. 100 battles to play through, with some what I call 'boss fights' in the later matches, when you face guys you can't obtain. Kind of like a mini keychain RPG.
The sense of discovery unlike the original is a bit lost on the new ones as it's too tempting to just look at the very detailed guides.
I had one as a teenager. Although, I was never ever able to battle. It didn't have a single player mode like the new ones do, So I could never unlock the final evolutions since battling is required. Also had a tamagotchi. In a sea of smart phone users glued to their screen in a waiting room, I feel a sense of ease as I take out my Digimon instead. I too never got into the card game or anime, just the virtual pet device. The glow in the dark one is pretty cool, also I have the brick red (like when I was younger).

My son lost his within 2 weeks but it’s such a great feature that, when the mood hits, I can fire them up for a week or two, load the last Digimon I was working on and lend my son my second or third device 😜 thanks so much for the support man, it’s crazy to think how much life has changed and still, I get such a kick working on these videos. Cheers mate 🍻

As a kid I had the brown one and my cousin had the blue-ish one. I remember that back then the anime didn't exist, nor did the digimon have the same names that now have become solidified. I remember I had this little yellow booklet that came with the same colour illustrations that were later used in the TGC and so on, but Agumon was called Fibus, Devimon was called Demon, Monzaemon was called Poseidon (I don't know what the heck a teddy bear has to do with the god of the sea, but...)... I have no idea who was to blame for those names to be honest XD. Also, we were Spaniards, and little kids and weren't all that familiar with how we were supposed to pronounce it, not all that used to saying international titles of things in English, so when we talked about our Digimon we pronounced the "g" as the hard, gutural Spanish "g/j" sound and we stressed the "mon". We didn't know any better until the anime took the country by storm.

Yeah I remember being pretty clueless too 😂 who the hell has time to read the manual?! Not a whole changed for me 😅 I tried for a long time trying to find ads for this device too… I remember a particular ad in Australia where a bunch of kids look like they’re getting into a street fight in an alleyway, but then they bust out their Digimon devices… there was some wild stuff before the anime.

This was not a thing in Norway. I remember watching the TV-show on Super-RTL (German TV), but had no clue that these handhelds actually existed. Really cool stuff! :)

🤩🙂😃 Dude, I am so mindblown by all the really cool original and even obscure things you review and do on this channel. As always a very educative, fun and interesting episode.
Can´t remember these things, though I do remember the hype with the Tamagotchis from around the same era. But I do remember my brother Ash liked the Digimon stuff back then, and as he already mentioned down below, we probably never had this in Norway. :D Great video, man! Have a Happy Easter! :)

Fantastic question! Could pretty much be its own video. For me, I wanted to collect games that were unique to the system, and I really value multi player. So off the top of my head, games like toejam and earl, one and two, general chaos, streets of rage, both the ninja turtle games, tournament fighters, and hyper stone heist were unique to the mega drive…

I got one of the original digimon v-pets back in '98 and the rest was history. Now I have a room filled with I don't even want to know how many hundreds of dollars of digimon merch... Don't tell my wife. If you want a good resource for taking care of your v-pet then humulos/humulomon is your best friend. Also maybe look into a vital bracelet if you want something a little more modern with more features.

Hell yeah, I used the Humulos evolution charts for this video - I was just watching his video on the colour Digimon too☺️ thanks for tuning in, your collection sounds amazing!!

Tamagotchi was, to my memory, the only digital "monster" toy over here in Sweden, but we DID fortunately get the anime (dubbed even!) so that was my exposure to it, funnily enough the opposite of yours. Then again I was never very interested in digital pets either- I felt like they were just lower fidelity video games, more or less...

I mean, you’re not wrong 😜 Digimon were a little special just because of how social the devices were. Other kids had them, it was like, being part of an exclusive club. For a few weeks until the fad died down 😂😅
