- I test ride and review the learner-legal Triumph Street Triple 660!
The chassis, brakes, tyres and suspension are pretty much the same as the 675, so if you're looking for a "grown up" learner bike you can enjoy for years, this could be the one. I loved it. It's awesome.

Been trying to find reviews on this thing and your's has been the only one that has been good. Keep up the vids :)
+MrBikeRida Thanks for the kind words mate, and glad you found it useful!
Many thanks, this was the first video in regards to LAMS bikes that I had watched since finally getting my L's after a 20 odd year absence on a bike. I have proceeded to watch all of the reviews on the LAMS bikes that you have posted and they have been of great assistance. As an avid researcher they have proved extremely valuable in my endeavour to find something appropriate to ride.
N00B on Two glad you found em useful mate. welcome back to bikes! good luck with your search!
"divides the crowd is with these headlights.... i do think they're pretty fugly" Frkn loool had a good laugh hearing that pause and statement. Couldnt agree with you less lol!
hahah. so you like the headlights?
like I said, once you're riding it you forget all about the headlights. It's just so damn sweet...
Wolli creek was different back then 😁 So much changed in this 6 years
Hay! Such a Wonderful Video, i have the Street Triple 2011 R its a Real Cool bike,i allways buy second-hand nowdays low mileage under 3K.
Good old princess in Wolli creek!!!
I love the Triumphs whistle! Im wanting to get the Daytona 675
I'm in love with my speed triple, if this thing is just as smooth and just as angile (it'll probably be more so) then I can see why people who own them are so enamored.
lol we just bought one in wellington nz, nice to hear others back up what we found as well
Wellington is a sick place to own a motorbike. Rimutaka range for the twisties.
Great review. For shizzle.
I wish there were more of these bigger, more exotic LAMS bikes. The only 2 I want are this and the Ducati Monster 659 and my mate already has this one so I'm aiming for the Monster
Yeh, plan on keeping it for a while so want something that will last... thinking getting the triumph: thanks for the advice. The more I watch this the more I want one lol
The first bike I took for a test ride after I bought my CBR500 was the Striple 660. Absolutely fell in love. The price kept me back in the end. Couldn't justify it :P It'd be a keeper for sure, though. This is the cream of the LAMS crop. A couple extra teeth on that rear sprocket might bring back some of the cheekiness that the LAMS restrictions took out ;)
+Hagz Ha, dude that sounds an awful lot like my situation! I was so tempted to buy an ex-demo one they had there, but i've decided to hold off until the full licence comes around. But damn it was hard to walk away!
+Hagz dude, glad you commented! Just checked out your channel, looks great! Sub'd :)
+WeNeedASaga It makes sense to get the 675 later.
Hi mate, Looking to get the new version this with the traction control or the newly updated and reinstated 659. My major concern is that the triumph is just too fast for a very first bike.
Top review man subd
thanks mate! welcome :)
I don’t get the option in my country for an a2 version of this, and I can drive anything I want with my license, but I would love having one of these in the US, and I have been riding for over 21 years
Thank you for the review😏
no problem my man!
these 660s derestricted are pretty good too
Dude, I smiled...
love your vids man!!! please do a review on the honda cbr650f
Thanks mate! I've actually got a ride of an SV650 and a Ninja 650 coming up, so I might have to line up a CBR650F to round it out! Stay tuned :)
Yeah the price definitely is a deterrent, especially being a uni student. But I can't stand the thought of having to spend another 2+ years on my ninja 300. Plus, these things seem to hold their resale value very well, plenty on bikesales with 25,000km+ being sold for $10k. I've also considered the mt07, but realistically it'd only be a price difference of around $2k and the striple seems to have a far better build quality.
+TheZallene Yeah the 660's seem to hold their value really well, and they're going to stop selling the Monster 659 soon which I think will make these even more popular. I test rode the MT07 a little while back (there's a vid if you're interested), and yeah the Striple did feel a little more "grown up". Don't get me wrong, MT07 was wicked, but I think it's pretty fair to say the Striple has nicer suspension and brakes.
Oh really, how come they're stop selling the monster? Yeah i'll definitely have to watch that vid. I'm just thinking of when i saw an mt07 up close and personal, and it does feel very plasticy especially towards the back end :S
TheZallene I think because the 696 engine will no longer be used so it doesn't make sense to build the bike for one market. Plus with a learner-legal Scrambler coming out, I guess they just want people to buy that instead...
Hey Mate
Just after another opinion. I’ve got 9 months to go on Ps and looking at a new bike. Do you think the 660 is enough to keep a “once every couple of weeks” rider happy or wait and get the 675 later?
Also looking at the Monsters so same question applies for the 659/797/821.
Hey mate - I would wait for the bigger version of each. the 660 is a great bike but if you go from the 660 to the 675, I think you'll be a bit disappointed about how similar they are. Sure, the 675 is faster up top and unrestricted, but it will feel so familiar to you that it might not feel like a big step up - that's credit to the 660 and how good it is! With the Monsters, 659 to 821 would be a good step up I think - there's a significant difference in the performance of those two.
Hi, I keep watching this video trying to make my mind up between this and the mt07. I’m a mature age learner, riding an old xvs650 looking to upgrade. Can you advise what you think would be best for me. I don’t mind paying the extra for the triumph if you think it’s the best bike. Thanks, and keep up the good work
Derek adams do you plan on keeping it for a long time or do you think you'd sell it after a year or so? If you think you'll keep it, I'd go the Triumph - I think it's the better bike.
Given you have reviewed the Street Triple 660 and the Ducati Monster 659 - If you had to choose between the two, what would you go for?
Daniel Bailey my personal preference is the Street Triple 660 for the sound and the much better dash, but both are pretty evenly matched!
Did you get this bike? I have not ridden for 18 years, I keep going back and forth between this amd the mt07. I think the suspension and brakes are swaying me to the trumpy.
REVHE4D it depends if you think you'll change bikes or keep your 1st one. The Street Triple is a superior bike, but the MT07 will save you a few $$ which you can use for something else when you have your unrestricted licence :)
I love my 660 but seriously considering removing the throttle restriction screw. There's so little travel on the stock throttle compared to the 675. Just need to work out how to remove the airbox. 85hp would be nice...
+I GolfinOz Don't buy the shit about it screwing up the fuel injection if you do that?
+I GolfinOz Coming from someone who considered doing this and removed the airbox. The throttle restrictor is very complicated. Basically yes, there is a restrictor plate but the screw holding it on is there to make sure its not taken off, So its basically just a screw with a circular head so theres no real way of getting it off unless you drill it out. To get 85 Hp out of it, you would also need to get a power commander and reflash the ecu somehow or buy a $2000 street triple 675 ecu. I decided it wasn't worth it. The bikes faster than the str to 100 regardless. Don't think it needs any more grunt
Yeah thats all true. I'm sure it can be removed and if it could and result in 0 consequences then I'd be up for that. Let me know if you go ahead with it. I'm in the same boat. All the older guys I ride with tell me I'm outgrowing the bikes powers and capabilities as is so I should try derestrict
Nice vid!
I'm 1 year and 3 months away from my fulls. Just sold my CBR500R.
Do you recommend I buy the street triple 660 now for around $7-8k OR wait till my fulls for something like a street triple 765 or 675 ?
hmm, that's a tough one. so you've already sold the CBR and you are definitely going to get something else? the 660 is a great choice!
@@WeNeedASaga yep sold a couple of weeks ago! yes definitely getting something else (if enough power/fun, I will keep it on my fulls) but don't want it to lose resale value when i do move to a new bike on my fulls... also getting riding withdrawals lol
@@PINKY538 MT07 might be a good choice then... they are really fun and because they are really popular they hold their value and are easy to sell.
getting my bike L's in a couple on mounths i love in sydney area to!
Have you ridden a cbr500ra I'm stuck to my restricted full for 3 years would you recommend upgrading?
yes I have ridden thre CBR500R - that's what I had on my learners. if you've got three years restricted, yes I think a Street Triple or an MT07 are a step up from the CBR and will make the learners period more fun
@@WeNeedASaga thank you so much...
If you had to pick what one would you choose? Might go do some test riding, you've got a sub from me 😁
@@NatesEscape I have a soft spot for the MT07 - but try them both and see what you think!
Im from Melbourne trying to get my license asap my question is (am I allowed to ride this bike when i get my license)?
Adees Azad yes you can :)
this bike is also in the uk
hey mate, could you please try and do a review of a royal enfield continental gt or the bullet??
oh wow, I didn't realise those things were ok for restricted licence holders. I'm not sure where to arrange it here but i'll look into it...
hi mate - you're in luck! I managed to organise a test on a Continental GT - keep an eye out for the review video soon! :)
Hey mate - it took a while but I managed to get one for ya :) hope you find it useful.

Think i've made up my mind about getting a Ninja 300 now over this. Thanks~!! $1000 Price range and difference of power with the 675r did it for me haha
+Jeremy Davis No problem - glad it helped mate!
+Jeremy Davis I'm about to upgrade from my Ninja 300 to the street triple :p
+TheZallene i'm still deciding between naked or ninja300. hard decision haha, was recently looking at an xj6nl yamaha
+Jeremy Davis see I agree that fairing bikes look "cooler", but the problem with LAMS 'sport' bikes is that they aren't really sport bikes. They're tiny, sound terrible, and don't even have proper sport bike riding position. My ninja 300 has low quality plastic with fairing gaps :/
+TheZallene I got suckered in by the fairings - I was intending to buy a CB500F but the 500R was sitting there looking all cool ;) I reckon the Ninja 300's are pretty amazing for the price they're built to, but I totally agree that they look a bit average next to a proper sports bike.
I got the mt03 2016 and 10 months left until my full license. Should I just wait and get the Street triple R/Mt09 or get this for the next few years
Jeffrey Meesterman you can't go wrong either way! buy it and enjoy the crap out of it, or wait it out and enjoy the big range of choice.
WeNeedASaga thanks for the advice! loving your new bike FYI. Might test the mt07 this weekend to start off
MT07 is a great place to start. Enjoy dude! Let me know how you go.
There a new version for you guys in Australia that is a2 for the 765?
Yes - I believe Triumph have put the engine design from the bike in this video (the 660cc) into the new Street Triple's chassis - so the chassis is all new, but the engine is the existing A2 one...
WeNeedASaga thanks, I was just curious because I thought I saw a lams street triple s so I wondered about that
There would be no point in buying that bike then upgrading to the 675 when you come off your restricted license. Jump to the 800, maybe
yeah totally agree, that's why I ended up holding off on this one (the 660).
would this be a good first bike
Spartan 118 yes! :)
it's at the faster end of the spectrum, but lots of people start on 650ish bikes no problem. it's very easy to ride, just mind the throttle to begin with and you'll be fine.
WeNeedASaga thanks
It would be an amazing first bike, so good that you might not be too impressed with your 2nd bike!
Was this at 47bhp?
yep!
WeNeedASaga Just put a deposit on the new 2017 street triple S, but the A2 restricted model. Which is essentially the same system as the LAMS system in OZ. It uses the same 660 engine although it's in the new 765 chassis
Procycles wants their bike back.
haha :) they got it back, and I thanked them immensely for the ride of such a sweet bike!
+WeNeedASaga totally. Don't worry, you will buy a few bikes there as time goes on and the money comes in. I used to just test ride for fun and 10 years later I have bought 3 new BMWs off them.
rider height?
200cm/6'7"
+WeNeedASaga do you seat comfortably in the bike?
Yep, even at my height it's still comfortable/spacious enough :)
WeNeedASaga Cheers!
The only thing stopping me buying this bike is those horrid headlights.
heh yeah, I felt a bit the same but once you're on it and riding all is forgiven!
There's a single headlight conversion kit available.
it looks like a praying mantice
