As a manager at a Chipotle restaurant, we are much much better than Taco Bell! Prices can get a little expensive, but you get a lot of food for the price. Chipotle considers itself Mexican food, but it really isn’t Mexican food. Any family run Mexican restaurant will be leagues better than any Chipotle. Hope this helps!

It's Mexican-American fast food. Or Mexican-inspired American food.
Doubt anyone would call it "authentic Mexican food" which is a very different beast, what with street tacos, enchiladas, tamales, etc., etc. Chipotle is just kind of a limited Americanized version mostly centered around burritos or "burrito bowls" (generally sans tortilla, just a "bowl" with the other burrito contents).

I would call Chipotle fast food Tex Mex. It is considerably better than Taco Bell, but not even the best Tex Mex fast food. There are smaller fast food Tex Mex chains that are better. And of course, if you can find a small Mom and Pop Mexican or Tex Mex restaurant with a good chef, it would beat the chains.

Chipotle is a type/class of restaurant known as "fast casual", which is distinct from "fast food".
In a "fast casual" restaurant food is prepared similarly to how it is prepared in a regular restaurant, but there is no table service. You walk in and order at the counter, and your food is prepared. Then you pick it up at the hand-off spot (usually the opposite end of the counter from the cashier). Others will give you a little number or buzzer and call the order number or ring the buzzer, some may walk the food out to the table but you are responsible for ordering, putting away your own dishes, getting your own drinks, etc.
"Fast food" by comparison has food shipped to the shop in a nearly ready-to-eat fashion, usually frozen just a step or two from "ready to serve" and all the workers do is warm it up and wrap it or put it on a plate.
That said, Chipotle and some sandwich places like Subway have all the food behind a partition and you go along the line opposite the employee letting them know which items you want or do not want, but same as above the food is prepared in the kitchen much as it would be in a regular restaurant and brought out to the serving area in small/medium batches.
For convenience, Chipotle is pretty solid. I'm not sure it's the most flavorful, but that isn't why you are going. You are going because you get large servings in a short period of time, for a reasonable price.
edit: Taco Bell is very much fast food, and if you get a chance to do side-by-side comparison the quality and experience differences will be very apparent. Given the choice between the two, Chipotle is preferred for me for both quality and quantity. Time of service is about the same for both.
edit 2: Chipotle offers a variety of sodas, juices, fizzy water, etc. Taco Bell usually only offers soda and, maybe, sugar water masquerading as lemonade.

Chiptole is a mess. They've been fined for selling contaminated food ($25 million fine), child labor law violations (more fines), numerous food safety violations like using out of date vegetables. cheating employees out of wages, and now cutting portion sizes in some stores but not others. One store is generous and thr next one charges you the same for half that portion! They settled out of court for numerous sexual harrassment charges by employees. They forced some sick employees to complete their shift knowing it was a risk to patrons eating the food they prepared. They are paying their NYC workers $20 million for wage violations (cheating them). Hundreds got sick from e.Coli, salmonella, and noroviruses in their food.

Chipotle is more considered “fast casual”. Where they use better ingredients and constantly cook food instead of getting it premade and heated up like most fast food places. Chipotle is really popular. They just don’t have the drive thru experience. But it’s way better value for your money than McDonald’s.

Taco Bell is true fast food. Chipotle is an in-between dining that has come to be called "casual dining" and is usually a sit-down meal experience. Then there are high-class Mexican places that is where you are more likely to get real Mexico-Mexican food and fewer quesadillas and tacos

    Originated in Colorado! (Croc’s also)
You walk down a line of ingredients and choose what you want in your burrito or whatever. All fresh!
    Get a burrito!
    The guacamole is good too!
Ingredients aren’t packaged. So fresh tomatoes and onions and everything. You taste the difference.
It’s West- Colorado Mex which is its own thing like green chili.

Chipotle is Tex-Mex. It is a food chain. Tex-Mex is a cuisine from the Texas-Mexico border region that mixes traditional Mexican flavors with American influences. Chili con carne, fajitas, and queso are Tex-Mex creations. I like Chipotle because they use fresh ingredients, and you can customize your order. Mission burritos are made right in front of you after you choose your ingredients. I think that is what threw off James and Millie. It is like they blended the speed of fast food with the taste of casual dining. Fast casual. Way better than Taco Bell

I live next to Mexico, I don't eat Mexican Food at fast food chain restaurants. We have the best Mom & Pop restaurants here so the everything is made traditionally and very flavorful. Or, I make it myself. I find it so strange that we have a Taco Bell and Chipotles here, but majority of the customers are just passing through our town and more than the majority of our town go to our favorite local Mexican Food restaurants. Taco Bell uses ground beef for their beef, but traditional in our town uses shredded beef YUM!).

Chipotle was started in Denver. In 2000 I started a building remodel. I saw a sign for Chipotle next door on second floor which is odd. It was the corporate HQ. Dirty shirts and pants hard hats. Receptionist saw us walking in and reached for coupons. When we were doing tenant finishes we lost the 2nd floor contract. Chipotle was blowing a hole through the wall and taking over the 2nd floor in what was 3 building addresses. At about this time chipotle got bought out by McDonald’s. They lost some of their quality and value. If Taco Bell is McDonald’s Chipotle is Applebees or Chili’s

Chipotle is in many, many US states. It's a very popular chain. SO much better than Taco Bell (which is a meme-producing joke in some parts of the US).
I have never seen a Chipotle with a drive-thru (just a pick up shelf inside), it is counter. One burrito lasts me for 3 meals. Everything is fresh. Somewhat limited menu that seldom changes, but tasty. The barbacoa is my favorite 😋

  • @wishy692

Taco Bell is at the bottom of American Mexican food lists. The only reason it is at the top of surveys is because they are everywhere. And most people would rather go to Chipotle or Baja Fresh or any Mexican Restaurant than Taco Bell but Taco Bell is cheaper and faster not better. Chipotle food is hand made in front of you, they build the bowl/burrito/taco in front of you like Subway does sandwiches. You’ll never get a burrito that size from Taco Bell ever. Plus there’s beer! 😂
And having tacos and burritos without salsa or sauce is like having salad without dressing! Of course it’s going to be dry
I can’t rate fast food because everything is different. I can put Chipotle above Taco Bell but can’t compare it to a burger place like In-n-Out, they are 2 different kinds of foods. This $12 burrito can’t compare to a $25-$30 brisket! But this burrito is better than an $8 taco Bell burrito!

Comparing Chipotle to Taco Bell is apples to oranges, and although they use many of the same words (taco, burrito, queso) they are completely different cuisines prepared and served in completely different ways. I lived in Texas for almost 25 years, and I don't consider either Chipotle or Taco Bell to be anything close to authentic Mexican food or Tex-Mex. Many years ago (prior to 2008) when Chipotle still had their ready-mixed margaritas, which were by far the best margaritas I've ever had for the money, Chipotle was one of my favorite places to eat--I would eat at Chipotle at least once a week, if not twice. But when they did away with the ready-mixed margaritas, I noticed a wholesale downward slide in Chipotle. When I'm considering what to eat, Chipotle and Taco Bell are not competing thoughts, and if I want Mexican food or Tex-Mex, neither come to mind. I probably choose Taco Bell once a week or every other week, and Chipotle once a month or every other month.

Chipotle is considered fast-casual. This is where the food is made to order but without the elements of a full service restaurant. Instead of sitting down to order, you typically order at a counter or use an app to order before you arrive. The food is also usually packaged in a manner similar to fast food, so you can either take it with you or eat it at a table. Taco Bell is considered fast food. Chipotle and other fast-casual restaurants are sort of a bridge between fast food and casual full service chain restaurants, like Applebee's, for example. It's difficult to compare Chipotle with Taco Bell because Chipotle's food is just a little more elevated. Also, while its food is considered to be Mexican, it has a lot more Tex-Mex and southwestern United States influences than Taco Bell.

Mainly visited by people on their way home from drinking, quick trips through the drive-through by busy parents, kids with just a bit of money is TB's claim to fame. I haven't been to TB in .... gosh, well over a decade.

It was good back on the 70s. What a lot of these old franchises have done over the years was sell out to venture capitalists whose main goal is profit, not quality or employee loyalty.
They skimp on the quality of the food, therefore what used to be very good is now mediocre if even that.
Chipotle is one of the newer fast food restaurants so I won’t even include them but places like Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, anything else that’s 40 years old or older are not as good as they used to be.

Taco Bell and Chipotle are two different levels of American Mexican fast food. Taco bell is McD's while Chipotle is maybe Five Guys? A step above in quality and pricing. Both are good but each has its own distinct place. Taco Bell has LOTS more locations so its much more readily available like McD's and its open later hours so its one of a couple places to drive through after drinking and such.

We're not big Tex-Mex fans, but when we're craving guacamole....and burritos....but mostly guac, we order from Bell Street Burritos. I know other Atlanta subs will agree. Their guac is to die for. Buttery, almost. Chipotle is owned by the same group that does McDonalds, and was pushed as an "upgrade" to Taco Bell. But I agree with others' comments - find a mom & pop Tex-Mex place for the best quality.
