  • Auto-Rig Pro is one of my most used addons for Blender because I make all my character rigs with it. Not only can you rig all kinds of characters with it very quickly, it also has the best retargeting abilities I know of for existing animations, such as mocap data. In this video, we will take a first dive into this addon and show you the easiest way to rig a human-like character using the Smart function.

    I'm having a problem when using the auto rig when I select the model and click on the full body selection it says Mesh only errors and I can't start the body rig.

      Hey make sure that the character is in the center of the scene (at the origin point) and the scale of the meshes is applied. Also make sure that you only select the character mesh and if you choose more than one mesh because of a hat or something like that, then always select the main mesh (body) at last. Then normally it should work, otherwise i would maybe update the Auto-Rig Pro plugin.

    I get this after rigging cannot change pose when rest position is enabled

      Hard to say why from here. Check if you have set the Pose to „Pose Position“ on the top under the Data Properties Tab and not „Rest Pose“.

    Can both characters work with autorig? Because when I finished 1 character then 2 character but when I bind, it, the 2 character is fine but 1 character mess up. How do i solve this problem without get error.

      I would rig every character on a separate file, at least that‘s what i‘m doing always..

    Excellent tutorial! Does auto rig pro work on very styli characters with body parts that are not standard human proportions? Like really short legs or a long torso.

      Thank you! Mostly it works quite good with all kind of proportions with the smart function. I haven‘t tested it on an extreme level till now but i guess that should be no problem :)

    The "Get Selected Objects" button is always unavailable, do you know what I can do to fix it?

    Just one question : do I need to make a unique object from all the objects before processing ?

      Thanks! I‘m not quite sure what you mean. If you ask if you have to join all meshes together before proceeding then no. You just have to select all the objects that shall be affected by the rig and then you can proceed, but i show that in the video :)

      You can also convert existing rigs to an Auto-Rig Pro Rig with the addon so then i would make this :)

      Hey, under the Auto-Rig Pro Smart function should be also a button for the facial setup as well, but i didn´t used it for face rigs till now because i work with FaceIt for that part.

      Hmm good question, i did‘nt worked with 2d models till now but especially the weighting could be a problem if the bones aren‘t inside a mesh 🤔

    Hello, do you know how to use the IK/FK switch for AutoRig Pro?

      Hey, go into Pose Mode, select the controller you want and click on the side Panel on the "Item" tab at the top. Under the "Transform" settings should find now also the "Properties". Unfold it and there you should find the ik_fk_switch.
