Inspired by several viewer comments, I asked Keychron to send me a V6, a budget mechanical keyboard. I figure this should be an interesting one to cover, even though this is not normally the type of board I ask for. Hope you enjoy the video!

Damn, I also really want one!
The Terraria shirt that is
This is a very nice board. I like that it's hot-swap + VIA + good sound + tons of layouts!
how did i watch this for 10 minutes and not notice the shirt until i read the comments ._. i love terraria
I think for a starter keyboard it is a big advantage that Keychron comes with customer support, good English quick start guide, instructions and a decent keycap puller. Boards from Aliexpress often have Chinese only instructions and you have to guess what each hotkey combination does.
So excited to hear what you have to say about the Melodic switches! I ordered 10 of them to try em out but you might put out a review before they ship from China xD
Typing on a Keychron V1 right now, with Clickiez switches. It's a truly excellent board for the money, and just kind of excellent full stop tbh. Like I wouldn't even consider it a "first step" board necessarily, at least once you've equipped it with new switches and caps. As you've talked about previously plastic cases can sound better depending on your personal taste, they tend to impart a deeper more reverberant tone.
DAMN this keyboard has a v6? lol
bro if your keyboard aint a manual v8 i dont want it lmao
@@Antwon22nah, manual V12 or bust.
I have a V6 and I've loved it since I got it.
Cannot wait for your thoughts on the Melodic switches! We could always use more Clicky switch appreciation
will you take a look at the hall-effect q1?
nice you got a pack of gateron melodic looking forward to your full thoughts on them
Can you get the tactile version of the gateron dual slider switches and put them in the melotics and see if the tactile bump and click is reminiscent of Alps?
Keychron reds also came with my K10 Pro ISO (since keychron apparently refuses to sell the barebone version in ISO), I frankly found them way too sensitive and swapped them out for some clickbar switches as soon as they came in the mail but I imagine that if you want smooth linears they are fine.
serious question is this the cheapest via enabled keyboard with layers?
i am not changing from my custom split one, but if this is what i said, this is impressive and it might be crazy value for money just for that. especially if you want to set custom layers end stuff due to injury or movement impairment. even if it is not still the price is impressive
Cheers! Been a long time since i last watched one of your videos :P
I have this exact model of board! Except, I put Box Jades in it because I am insudferable.
I have always loved blue switches other than for my own keyboard, started with a rando amazon blue switch board for like 40 bucks and that thing got sold within the year, i got sick of it lmao, i have always loved the sound of box jades though
Oh hey another Keychron board! These have been coming out left right and center it feels like.
Ive been following Keychron's latest releases of Max keyboards (with 2.4 Ghz wireless). I anticipate they'll release the TKL V3 Max soon. If they do, I might buy it. I think, for me, that keyboard is the sweet spot.
I have no experience whatsoever with mechanical keyboards though. But I don't want to be on a journey and spending massive amounts of money. I'm wondering therefore, if I should go for stock switches.
05:17 comes with extra keycaps for the Windows layout (couldn't find this info on Amazon so looked up an unboxing)
Keychron being a good brand is the one thing you and every other keyboard reviewer can agree on maybe I should buy one
Definitely a good starter board, leaves something to be desired sound wise but they have no issues as far as normal keyboards go
@@dantem4119 They sound fine, especially the V series.
Q series tho... It's force break mod or die.
If you really want that "it it doesn't ThOcK it's bad" crap, V Max and Q Max keebs are there for this.
ive had 2, the K2 and K2v2, my k2 lasted 2.5 years, only broke cause i spilled water on it like 3 or 4 times across the last couple months and the last spill finally caused issues with typing, every other time i let it sit overnight in front of a fan and it was fine, that thing took a beating. Also have had the v2 for almost a year and no issues Highly recommended
and in fairness plain K series is getting old, K pro now is replacing it much upgraded with almost same price. @@Antwon22
Hello Thomas, this may have been asked before, however do you store all your acquisitions? Considering the amount of keyboards you may have, how or what do you do with them?
I have them in a giant wall of Kallax cupboards in a room. I've made a few videos where I show them :) .
I bought k10 pro (quite similar to this board) because of this review.
I've suggested to Keychron that they should include a few extra switches for their hotswap keyboards. That would safe the keyboard if one breaks down. I'm also a bit annoyed that they make it hard to open the keyboards. My K1 Pro keyboard (low profile switches with similarly colored key caps) could do with some additional silencing (although my colleagues already think it is OK-ish). Otherwise very happy with one, hoping it will still work after a bit of muck accumulates in the keyboard.
The cheap mech guidance works. I fell down the rabbit hole after buying my $35 outemu blue board in 2020. It feels like garbage now as i use it waiting for replacement parts for my model m but It certainly helped me know what i wanted by showing me some things I didnt want.
same here lol, got some rando tkl blue switch board that came with a mouse on amazon for like 45, loved the switches other than for typing, upgraded to a gateron brown keychron k2 and didnt like the bump even though it wasnt as bad as the click and now am on a gateron red keychron k2v2 after spilling water on my k2 like 3 or 4 times in a span of a couple months and it finally died on me, that thing took a beating
whats the horsepower on one of these bad boys?
yes i did . sound ok to me. i do not care is from mars. what is imporant that last sound good and works. and that brand has all the options anyone can have. even cheep model to the most expensive. thanks Thomas! Cheers
Big fan of Keychron - but do get annoyed that all their keycaps for ISO layouts are incredibly dull and dour, and their gorgeous space-cadet blue sets are only available for US layouts. :0(
Wouldn't it be useful to review the keyboard with the included switches? Ah well, Thomas already reviewed the board so we'll never know...
Nice keyboard and nice terraria shirt
My man is wearing a Terraria T-shirt! >.>
Of course! It's one of my favourite games of all time :D
@@Chyrosran22 Yo that's sick! It's also one of the very few games that I played as well! ^^
Since, you're on this MX topic, I would love a review on Glarses' tactile switches made by Cherry with his input.
It's just recoloured Cherry MX Ergo Clear...
I've had a keychron V1 for a while and tho my main board is now something else (QK75) the V series I feel are really good recommendations to people that are just getting into the custom mech game.
I would never recommend the really cheap chinese stuff because I feel like with every other electronics the savings you get are not worth the terrible quality. These sit at a really nice price/quality ratio and I wouldn't hesitate to tell someone that this is worth the investment. Plus the included stabilizers are actually generally well-tuned even for an experience keyboard hobbyist the acoustics are honestly far above most full plastic boards you can get elsewhere. Plus the barebones version is a nice platform to test switches and keycaps.
Keychron should cater more to the non-ANSI world and then I'd maybe consider buying from them.
I mean maybe actually make one of the non-stupid layout keyboards (eg. full size or normal tkl) as ISO for a change.
❤
Apple vision pro keyboard review when ?
wait what xD
kinda silly but i wish keychron would sell a 1000hz 2.4ghz wireless C1(with beige color) or similar.
I kinda like Keychrons, but I hate their switch choices. I mean, who in their right mind would choose low profile Gaterons over Kailh Chocs.
Random Abbey beer i found in my firdge! Fuck you man! Those things cost double what they do over there in the UK! That said my mate just visited from Amsterdam and he brought over a few Amsterdam beers, one of which was a Affligem Tripel, so i will be drinking that along side your review! Lets see what this Keychron has to offer!! ♥
That's a Belgian beer, even better
@@Flegado All Abbey beers are Belgian 🤪
😍@@Flegado
@@simon-bno they are made in the style of belgian beers brewed by monks.Doesn't need to be belgian, nor inside a monastery or even brewed by monks.
