Tim said he basically had a mental breakdown trying to nail the intro thumping riff because they were paying $400 an hour to shoot at the location and he couldn't get it right. He said they had to spend the extra hour of time to get the proper shot. Respect
Oh no an extra hour?!? The travesty!!! I thought you were gona say it took something like days or weeks longer to get it right but no just an hour lol.
This is my new favorite Polyphia song, by far. This whole piece is simply masterful and inspiring. I can't get enough of it and it actually gets better with every listen!
The dude pretty much mastered the guitar, I mean I dont listen to him a lot but there's literally nothing he cant do. I still think Petrucci is a better melody writer tho
@@mirkecWii I saw Dream Theater with BTBAM and Opeth and was disappointed tbh. Petrucci was just shredding the entire time and it wasn’t even that great. He felt out of place compared to the other guitarists.
From what I could understand, on every location jump scene, they go 1 floor up until they reach the top of the building (which here represents top skill on their thoughts maybe?) and find Steve Vai sitting taller than everyone, thus why the song's name is Ego Death, there's always going to be someone better than you at something. The trumpet player at the end represents every single one of them humbling themselves before the true god of music: rhythm, or music itself. Edit: I don't know if I made any sense or if I'm just too high. Sorry. Kisses from Brazil.
Tim's lead at the 0:30 of the music video is just so damn cool. And my favorite part is that he doesn't even bother to sit up properly he's just like "oh yeah this part? no sweat, wrote it while i was cooking breakfast this morning"
Funny enough about that part is Tim said he screwed up about a dozen takes and it was already 11 at night. He was getting pissed during the filming. lol
What a beautiful song. I watched the video when it was released and I was like hypnotized. With a pair of good quality headphones, you can feel every note swirling inside your ears. And the most badass moment? Steve Vai's introduction. Sitting on a throne as a true guitar King. Great reaction, Alex. It made my day. Cheers!
The Old God and The New Gods collaborate just like that as if this is just their morning get-out-of-bed routine. Never mind the playing technique employed, it's already mind-boggling how did they WRITE this thing up and then seamlessly blend their different styles together while still have a room for the trumpet player (Ivan Jackson of the Brasstracks) to nail the outro. What a masterpiece.
Damn straight he does! Got to watch Vai play a tiny bar in Nashville TN in 1990. Got his autograph, got to talk to him for a few. Nicest guy You will ever meet. Even more amazed at his progressive genius, has not stopped...machines. No words...
The reaction we've all been waiting for!! This song is so sick. I haven't stopped listening to it for the past week. On my walks, while working, while working out. I just can't stop listening to it.
The fact that your initial reaction was "THIS IS STUPID" makes it feel like I've been heard. I cannot understand this beauty and I'm glad we feel the same lol
Easily one of the most incredible pieces of music I've ever heard. Just... i don't have words for it. Or a lot of their songs. Playing God is crazy, Neurotica is sick, so many crazy good songs. Tim Henson is a freak.
I like watching Polyphia Reactions lol. And you sir! Are the most awesome! Also, what Steve Vai plays in his first cut is a technique he invented. "Joint shifting". Check it out!
affter watching reaction videos for 3 years..im proud to say...Alex...you were the first reaction video i ever saw...and i am soooo happy you found metal for yourself and are now enjoing polyphia...all the best :)
my theory on the song name is that working with a legend such as Steve Vai is definitely gonna bring your ego down a notch! Even for masters such as Polyphia ❤️
Ok Alex, I was starting a "WTF" comment with your mention of newbie Steve Vay!! You seriously had me worried for a moment. As always, great reaction, love the enthusiasm. And thank you for introducing me to Polyphia. 🙂❤
Okay, now you need to watch Crossroads (1986) for your next movie reaction. Steve Vai and Ralph Macchio battle it out on guitar. You seriously need to check that out after hearing this.
Hahahaha you very funny Alex, it makes it different from the others, every time I react to a song and I like it Alex, very entertaining . I love you dude
I really like the imagery they created along with the title, ego death. Notice that Tim starts off in the fancy chair, then the other guitarist (sorry), and then Steve vai - and by amazing contrast, he creates the ego death for the polyphia guitarists by playing much less "fast," but with such unique tonality and technique! The whole concept is brilliant
They kill their ego to work, by playing less "trappy", and Vai kills his by playing mildly, and they kill the audiences' ego by making something that works and sounds good
Highly recommend fabvl (pronounced fable) all of his songs are right up your street with the heavy vibes, majority are anime related, his latest one is called moonwalker
I just went to see Satriani/Vai tour on 4/20. You should go see it if they come by Hawaii. They wont be playing forever...and thats coming sooner than later. But it was an amazing show. Joe Satriani killed it, perfect playing. The "Enter Sandman" cover was legit.
I've heard this song many times, but you said something I haven't realized yet: This solo from Steve Vai has immense sexual energy, it really is incredible.
The reason it is so perfect is it's simplicity and melodic intuition. It's basically the same four chords with the most imaginative and satisfying fills. Give a listen to Manual Gardner Fernandes, like Tim Henson, super creative, melodic and an absolute ripper of a different kind.
I know this video is a couple months old, but I gotta say Alex, if you see this: I'd love your take on some of their songs with featured vocalists. Specifically the song ABC with Sophia Black. I know you came from hip hop and watching you rapidly get sucked into metal has been fucking awesome to watch BUT give a poppy song with absolutely insane instrumentals a shot. It's such a unique combo and it's almost a "guilty pleasure" you can't help but get sucked into and it never leaves your head.
When you have the time, you should watch their acapella version of this where they stream on twitch and they're all individually singing their parts hilariously. Not asking for a reaction video, but i suggest you watch such chaotic video 😅
Have we ever done Tender Surrender by Steve Vai on this channel before? Talking about impregnation. I'm a dude and now I have 3 kids and no wife or gf. They literally just flew out mahdick

When I saw Steve vai on one of the songs I knew it'd be great. This is far beyond my expectations. The visual of Vai on the throne always gets me.
I love Steve's whole vibe in the video. Just smooth and wavy. With his moves, sound, and wardrobe.

Years of practice is what it takes if you want to make it look easy. Plus Steve Vai, in my opinion one of the best guitarists ever. Awesome.
Thanks!

Steve Vai makes the BEST "Guitar Faces" of any guitarist in history!
Such an amazing collaboration!!

Scottie (Scott) LePage for future reference is the other guitarist
I have never heard of this dude before no ots time to see his other stuff
Well, to go with your running analogy, the trumpet at the end is definitely the post-coital cigarette.
Your facial reactions mirror what all of else felt the first time hearing the lyrics in this song
I love how Steve played into the music and still sounded like himself instead of someone else
My favorite band ever. Not even a question. The four best best musicians in the world.
Scott SLAYS in this song damn

This is such a great Song Steve Vai One of THE greatest guitarists of the late 1980 ies 1990 ies sort of hands the Torch to Polyphia s Generation.
Guitarists like this either make you want to lock yourself in a room and practice 8 hours a day or never pick the guitar up again.
You ever hear a guitar climax before well that's what it sounds like lol!!!!! Reaction was priceless 🤣
Their playing deffo evokes something, that's for sure!
Lets go now Alex Hefner is always good!
