A totally off the wall theory but with the computer off and the constant signal being broken could the printer be picking up random emi from mobile phones etc or other switch mode PSU’s from led lighting etc? I only wondered as I’ve just been watching a video of an AM radio and how phones and smps, especially led lights affect the signal or even wifi. Wi-Fi especially can cause popping in older audio equipment or vinyl replay.
The random firing pins could be direct interference. Obviously wouldn’t have been nowhere as much of an issue when this was made.
To get away from a lot of the interference you could actually set the printer up in the garden and see if it still does it as much.
