I always got in to step on the clutch for cold starts. Not spinning the transmission through cold gear lube in the transmission for less stress on the starter.
i spent the better part of 8 years driving an 84 aluminum framed FLC pulling everything from dumps, tauntliners, flatbeds, reefers & vans.loved that truck, still do allthough its now a farm truck.
Wow a triple 4 still running Those things what new had a real notorious problem on the 444 that put them in the shop about once a year I can't remember what it was something had to do with the valves or liners.
it was the fuel system and low flow cooling setup. The base engine itself is basically the same as big cam IV and N14s which were pretty much bomb proof
