That’s my favorite thing in life brother, not only because of the satisfaction of keeping the classics alive but back when trucks were built to pass on to the next generation.
The cab on the Big Horn is the same cab, from the firewall back, that was used on the "Power Giant" era of Dodge pickup trucks trucks from 1956-1960 and it stayed in production for use in larger Dodge trucks at least until the 1975 production of the Big Horn. The cab, the doors and the wrap around windshield are from that mid 1950s design. Dodge made a lot of interesting trucks and certainly got their money's worth from that tooling. As good as their trucks were they never could achieve significant gains in market share against GM and Ford in the US market. I tip my hat to Mr. Gambino for preserving this one and the two L1000s I see there. Those are interesting trucks that you never see anymore.
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE I own a 1957 Dodge D-100 in good original condition. The windshield is showing it's age and had some scratches. When I realized how long that cab stayed in production I figured that it won't be too hard to source a new windshield when the time comes to replace it.
A friend and I visited this shop a couple years ago, we were passing through and just dropped in unannounced. Joe was working on the truck, and took time to show it to us and around his shop, answer our questions and just talk to us. We took up quite a bit of his time, but he never rushed us or hinted that we should leave, what a super nice guy. Best of luck, Joe.
In 73 my dad bought a brand-new Bighorn, red with a 12-v 92 twin turbos and blowers, and an 18-speed tranny, pulled a bull rack. That truck hauled ass, not sure how fast it ran but it was fast enough for sure. You know how bull haulers used to be... wide open, or close to it. That dam hood was very long especially when you are riding in it and only a kid. What a tractor!
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE It was very cool. My dad was always a Dodge guy for some reason, before he hauled cattle in KS, we lived in CA and he owned a moving company. Tough looking, love the muscular look of these from the front or 1/4 angle. Not much windshield though, with a lot to look over😂, in today's world, having to deal with any kind of city traffic would be challenging I would think. The axles are from a delivery van and it had a 440 with performance parts all over it but the block was still early 70's muscle car era and a 999 auto trans. It got the name hellhound cuz I painted it black on black (no chrome) had duel 4 inch by 6 foot stacks with propane injection flamethrowers that threw flames 10 in the air and had green neon light all over the truck so going down the road it would glow green underneath, under the hood, behind the grill, in the cab and even had green marker lights on the roof and headache rack.
