One of my three girls is switching to BJU- we are excited! We are coming from Abeka so the video length will be significantly less then what we are used too, the the speed will be way slowe; which I am excited about! I definitely can see how hard it would be to use video based math for a young child, I plan to teach my youngest next year. I do not want to teach upper level math (even though I have an Accounting degree) and we like our girls to do their school independently by middle school (that way they will be successful taking college courses/independently).

Hello! I homeschooled 3 children . We used Saxon math. There’s no way for me to tell you what a great curriculum they have. It’s elemental , which makes it so much easier to learn. Each lesson builds on the previous. Thus, more information is retained . I’m sure BJU is great too. I liked their math a lot, until I tried Saxon. Best wishes to you and your family on this journey 🌺

Hello! THANK YOU so much for this great detailed video. I have a 6 1/2 yr old that just finished TGTB Math 1 and i have been considering to switch her to something more mastery base like BJU. My question is should i start her on BJU Math 2 or Math 1 is BJU more advance? Do they offer a placement test? Thank you.

I would probably guess level 1, but I would suggest calling BJU and chatting with one of their reps. I don’t have any experience with TGTB 1 or BJU 1, so I would hate to give you bad advice!

I haven’t! I’ve decided to hold off on “formal” language arts until a bit later. Right now, we’re sticking to phonics with Abeka, plus some sight word practice and word building with letter tiles. Once we’re reading, I will formally introduce things like grammar and sentence structure, etc.

For language arts, we’ve used CLE and TGTB. Both were okay..but I wouldn’t say they’ve been something we loved. Lol
