- Testing these 17 inch props - very nice - better endurance - motors were cool and ESCs lukewarm after 28 minutes.
www.hobbyking....
With 15 inch props I was getting 24-25 minutes from this 6S 5200 battery. The 17 inch props are more efficient - this flew for 28minutes before auto landing.
The props sound great too - a deeper rumble - it has a lot of punch in manual mode also - I'll make another vid of this later.
Feels great to see a huge quad hovering
For Robert Kitchen, sorry I can't seem to reply directly to your message, but the ESCs are Hobbywing X-Rotor 40 amp - the motors are Sunnysky X4110S - 340 KV.
I do like that machine.
Great job really appreciate this thank you
awesome, love this drone! someday i wanna make one like that, sorry i dont speak english as well.
That quad just floats in the air.
+ViceVersa Musik That is a perfect description, yes it is very quiet and sits there effortlessly. I got the canopy and arms from Himodel.com
Like it! What is the discharge battery (C) for your battery?? Best!
I guess ,That's more important for endurance copters ,so what's the c rating? or any suggestion on that .
Hello perfect machine I want copy your one. Quick question how heavy it is including battery and gimbal ? Thanks ( in my country it's very difficult to get those motors what do you think about t motors 3515-15 400 kv i want fly around 25 min.. as well ) thank you
Nice craft! Are the props or arms in view from your gimbal on this frame with 17 inch props? I have a carbon fiber tbs disc clone, but the frame flexes too much for the dji e1200 propulsion system, and now I am looking at moving to this frame.
If a quad can be sexy that one is.....
For 650mm quadcopter and about 1.6kg, are 11 inches props too hard to lift the plan up?
I had calculated the thrust and it can fly stable at 60%; however, the quadcopter vibrated.
I wonder if it was the props that made the vibration.
what landing gear you use ? it move really smooth !!
+Coolmeusa They are the standard Tarot landing gear that came in the kit. I have to make a few small changes because they were not 100% reliable but with the mods they are great.
what small change you did ? will it stuck leg not moving and then move after few seconds ?
my tarot with 17" props can fly 55 minutes on 4S5P
This is just what i want to do! Just about to pull the pin on some motors. I have a few questions if you don't mind.
- did you have to mod the existing arm locations from hex to quad or did you just take out the middle arms?
- The size of the motor from what i can tell is 48mm diameter. Does this fit well on the motor mount?
Nice! With what Flight Controller was this?
Hi trainguy, would Tiger Motor MT3520-14 - KV 300, 42.5mm x 45mm, 196g be good for this frame with extended arms same size as yours, would the holes in the motor fit the frame?
Good for lifting?
Does the 650 Sport natively support 17 inch props?
no.
HI, NIce video indeed, I am building a x4 and I wish to work out the landing gear with linear servos, as you did, but can't really find any affordable; may I ask where you procured yours, please? Cheers.
+FPV Cambodia I think these come with the kit.
+Ringo Long Yes they do.
+Trainboy64 Thanks Gents!
Any preference as to what I should do? My 680 hex has gone down twice now, due to what either looks like a flyaway or a Tx glitch...its a Futaba 8J. It has the Naza V1/V2 flash. Both times it went 90 deg sideways, down ward about 15 deg and seeming like it was trying to accelerate. Broke 2 arms 1st time and a landing gear strut and gimbal, this time one arm and gimbal. Cut my losses and get a FOUR arm 650 upper and lower plates and recompile into a quad? Hehheh. Thanks.
Interesting. Thanks for taking a minute to get back with me on that.
I had exactly the same problem and lost 2 680 pro's this way. One crashed and burnt loosing everything. I switched to the TBS disco frame with DJI E800 propulsion system which was much better but still has occasional stability issues. I'm fed up with NAZA and in the process of switching to APM.
hello friend, I got a 650 too. I am using 4S 10000mah, 470KV T motors and 16x5.5 propellers with 3 axis gimbal... after watching this video I wished to upgrade but I think then I need to use 6S to run motors like yours do you think if I keep my same setup and longer a bit the arms will make difference as per flight time?
I found the 4S battery too low for my motors and 6S is much better as I now have ample power to lift heavier weights. Lower KV motors and bigger props should improve your flight times (usually)
may I ask where you got the extended arms and the canopy for this kit? great videos and I subbed dude. Thanks
+ViceVersa Musik Hi, I got the arms from Himodel.com I used 500mm tubes and cut them to 330mm. They also have the canopy, its for a Tarot 680 Pro but fits exactly to this frame also.
+Trainboy64 do the arms or props show on video?
Ringo Long Good question!
+ViceVersa Musik I am going to guess they do since I can't find video from the craft, and no one is stating that they do not. I guess I am going to have a custom carbon fiber frame cut for mine to eliminate the flex vibration that I get with 17 inch props on my carbon fiber disco frame.
+Ringo Long Yes you can definitely see the arms and props from the standard mounting position with a Tarot Gimbal and GoPro - I am planning to put a black magic camera on this eventually and will mount it lower. Combined with a narrower field of view the arms and props should not be visible. Here is a vid with the GoPro - while testing for vibrations. ruclips.net/video/DB2BiRGQbYc/видео.html
what's your build ? I absolutely love how stable it is.
how much this build cosh about
having the gps module that low, have you found that it has affected its signal in anyway or at all? thinking about doing it like that, as opposed to on the rod sticking up.
Mikevanhagar No negative impact at all. I have it low in all my quads and GPS Hover seems to work fine.
do you think i can run 17" blades on a 4114 motor with 400kv? (dji4114) i have a custom quad and would like to try it...
No
What esc / motor combination are you using Trainboy.
Ilike this setup
Can it lift a sony nex and gimbal
+Jamar Mcleod Yes I beleive it could lift it easily. I have flown with an extra 1KG for ballast while testing and it carries the weight no propblem though endurance drops significantly.
very nice what flight controller are you using.
+Monica Simpson Thanks, I have the Taranis on this one.
sorry meant flight controller...naza eagle tree or tarot xyz
Monica Simpson Sorry my bad, its a Naza Lite with theV2 Upgrade
Ok, one more question then I should be set. I have everything on order, same ESCs and motors. Are all of your ESCs mounted on the center frame under the canopy/hood? Any issues with heat if they are mounted there?
+Nick Z Yes they are mounted under the canopy - to be honest they would stay much cooler mounted on the arms but I prefer the neater appearance of no visible wires. They get slightly warm under the hood, well below 50C which is totally fine, even running them for 25 minutes, never had an issue.
+Trainboy64
Ok perfect. I agree under the canopy and off the arms is a much cleaner look. I really appreciate the advise and direction you've provided. Thanks
Nick Z You're welcome Nick and good luck with your build. Please post a video when you have it complete.
How did you stretch it to 840mm? Did you change the entire arms or just the motor mounts? I'm just confused because another video shows stock arms, but motor mounts from a 680 pro allowing it to run 17's, but it appears that you have longer arms. Please help.
+Xploder777123 Hi, yes I did use longer arms, these are 330mm (stock arms are 230mm)
did you have to use a different motor mount of these motors?
+PilotWithAGun No the stock mounts were perfect.
What is the maximum weight it can raise?
+Anton Hryb I tried lifting a 1 KG payload and it did this ok but the motors were working harder and the endurance dropped to about 15 minutes.
Can I ask where you got the extended booms? I didn't see an answer to this. -Thanks
+Nick Z Hi Nick, I got them from Himodel.com and cut them to 330 mm.

Thanks so much for answering my question. Couple final question regarding the motors and ESCs. How do you get 2 of the motors CCW and 2 CW? Do you reverse polarity going into the ESC or switch around the wiring of the 3 wires between the ESC and the motor? Also, Where did you find the reverse threaded prop adapters for these motors, for 2 of the 4 motors? I searched everywhere. Please excuse my ignorance. I haven't messed with RC in such a long time that things are so different and I need some guidance as I get back into it. Thanks so much and I hope to hear from you.
Nick Z Hi Nick, you can reverse the motors by swapping any two of the three ESC wires. Also depending on the ESC the rotation direction can be selected in the firmware when connected to a PC. These props are using the T-Style mount which uses two bolts either side of the centre hole. No need to use CW or CCW adapters.
+Trainboy64
That sums it up perfectly for me. Thanks so much for the help. Really appreciate it.
At what voltage do you land your quad?
Mau Coronel I set my low voltage warnings at 3.6 Volts per cell. So 21.6 Volts for the 6S battery.
What brand are those 17 inch
Mariano Hernandez 1 They are the Hobbyking 17 x 5 props . They needed a bit of balancing but fly very nicely. Here is the link hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__42853__17x5_Carbon_fiber_propellers_to_suit_the_DJI_S800_Hexacopters_1_pair_of_L_H_and_R_H_rotation_.html
***** thank you sir
Are you saying that 40 minutes is possible if your drone get 6s 10000mah?
My next drone is tarot 650 sport !!
It's "Inspiring"
Brian B It could fly much longer with a 10,000 mah battery but the price tag stops me every time... told you I was cheap!.
***** What about stacking up a 6 or so 20c zippy 2200 3s in parallel? There are only £8 each. I planned to try this but mine is still only a frame :)
MicroRCFiend That's a good idea, I have a bunch of those.
My 20c zippy is over 20g lighter than my 45c 2200 so that could be another 100 or so grams less if they are enough output. Super curious on these results, good luck, i hope if flies or a week :)
MicroRCFiend LOL thanks, another thing I thought of is to buy a second 6S 5200 and parallel the two. Will probably do that next week.
How did you level the motor mounts?
+Sarthak Joshi I used a small spirit level on each motor (bubble level)
Thank for such a quick reply. Is it available on ebay? Can you share me the link please?
Sarthak Joshi Sure, the one I have is like this www.ebay.com/itm/T-Bubble-Spirit-Level-for-professional-measuring-normal-usage-Mini-Bubble-New-/231863866199?hash=item35fc29d357:g:xmIAAOSwAL9UkmoO
Thanks :)
What is the size of the frame has turned out?
+Кирилл Беленко It is 840 mm diagonally between motors - the length of each arm is 330mm.
+Trainboy64 carbon tube 16mm 330mm?
Yes correct - 16mm
