Good advice I currently use a Ryumon 1066 high carbon steel cutting competition sword(279.99 3 day shipping), would like to upgrade to Paul Chen Hanwei. I can use the 2 handed sword with 1 hand pretty clean, I'm a bit sluggish still but I would say roughly 90% of my cuts make that clean crisp sound as you describe, gives me goose bumps every time. Got about 6-7 years with this sword shes a bit dinged up near the center where I make most of my cuts but no rust as she stays well oiled.
This is skill only for fiction movie ninjya basically. Japanese ninjya does not carry a sword on its back. Ninjyato is tool only for the fiction world.
the sheath is not sticked to your back... it wasnt meant to be like in those movies all the time .. im sorry :D it was placed on the back with a strap. not tied directly to the back of your body.. this way you can move your sword around your body for back or normal waist drawings
Geka GK Greg has not learned Japanese kenjutsu basically. It is Haedongkumudo which copied the fight scene of the Japanese samurai movie which he learned. that's stupid, Geka. There is no advantage to carrying your sword loosely on your back. The idea of a ninja is that he's sneaky and does a lot of quick movements. having a sword hung loosely on his back means he's going to be rattling around as he's running around? the sword would also get caught at random things. think things through, genius.
Okay I will let you think things through . If a sword is tightly strapped to your back.. Tell me? 1) how are you go into to roll. ? 2) when you are in a crouched or prone position and moving in a really narrow tunnel or a place like that.. The tightly strapped sword would be in a higher level than your head which would bump and make noise. To over come this things you can just simply move the sword with its sheath to your chest and roll and move easily. I have tried them. 3) if you have a a loose strap you can also draw your sword from the waist like a normal katana. ( oh please don't come to me with the same cheap thing that ninja only used straight swords) Also. Running around and not making a noise? You simply put your sheats tip between your obi and wrist and then run without making noise and getting caught on things. Also when the sheath is tightly strapped. And managed to draw. ( assuming you have some long arms and bend a little bit with the actual techniuqe to draw the sword rod the back.) tell me how are you going to put the sword back in easily? You don't see and hardly feel the saya. To overcome that problem. You simply have a loose strap and spin the loose saya and sheath your sword like you do it on a waist level and re spin it and pull it back to the back - neck level whee you can do a draw again. The saya had other more usages like containing blinding powder and etc.. With a tight strap you cannot have access to those. Just be imaginative my friend and everything would work out. And try using an actual sword sometime. Greetings.
His standard batto is bad. He should be pulling the saya forward and then pulling it back keeping the sword in the outward position. Sayabiki at the last moment of the draw.
they are similar to what’s been taught in ancient sword school, step back when slicing from the upward, and pull the saya (scabbard) back as you draw the blade, so he was trained before doing this xd
hmm.. interesting.. i can add it to my skill set.. i wonder what would happen if you combine chinese, japanese and korean swordsmanship??? I know many people say. This or that is better.
