like, Vinny hits it on the head, lmao, who is the game FOR?? it's such a meanspirited parody that nobody who likes SW is gonna enjoy it - the one "joke" over and over is "if you like this thing you're lame and you probably live with your parents" - but I also can't imagine a person who doesn't like SW enjoying it either, since it's so low-effort and conceptually shallow, which is often how people who hate SW describe the franchise, so ?????
@@smcb9979 And these games were made before people thought playing cringey terrible stuff and suffering through it for the stream humor was funny and cool - so it's no wonder the company went bankrupt. They were just making games and shoveling them into the void losing more and more money per day. Pretty much any time you find these games they are always still shrinkwrapped in their wrappers and never played. I found Star Warped at Goodwill and it had a $4 clearance tag on it from some electronics store. So I think it's safe to say that even in the late 90s humor time, people found them not funny.

@@smcb9979 That's the problem with "Parodies" made by people who hate the thing they're parodying. They're approaching it from the angle of "this is stupid and you're stupid", rather than being someone who enjoys something but is able to recognize or appreciate it's flaws. Making succinct commentary with the parody is something that requires nuances, via knowledge and appreciation of the thing you're parodying, a hurdle people who "parody" out of spite can never get over.
Even youtube movie reviews understand this because they bother to actually watch the movies, examine, and dissect them and extrapolate on a movie's flaws, even if they hate it, and can usually find enjoyment in how stupid it is.
If you hate something, you drop it and stop thinking about it, otherwise you're just seething and the parody is a vent for the seethe.
It's like Hypnospace, if it was awful!

I highly recommend checking out Pyst, their Myst parody. It's absolutely awful, but they somehow got John Goodman. It's full of hilariously bad FMV. I think that one also as some dev commentary on it as well and you can see just how seriously they took their games. They thought they were hilarious and that everyone just needs to 'lighten up.' It's charmingly bad and the actors are going way too hard for what they're being asked to do.

The Windows parody suggests that the creator has some sort of moral opposition to Bill Gates creating a monopoly within an emergent market.
That seems like a good reason to make a parody or a satire but then you see X fools, Pyst, and Star Warped and realize that the creator just hates Nerds and Geeks with an intense passion.
Yeah, that's a good point. I don't think Winblows even had any references to the actually-shady shit Microsoft was actually doing in 1997. Talk about a missed opportunity.
Yeah, if they had some kind of moral opposition, they could have instead preached the word of Stallman or Torvalds. Especially since the former hadn't been outed as a complete neckbeard yet.
It's actually fairly common for the worst kind of parodies to be viciously, pointlessly cruel while making jokes about completely unrelated subject matter, rather than funny or satirical. These sorts of parodies are made by people who have no understanding of what it is they are trying to parody, which is an absolute must if you are trying to make satire or parody at all. Even if you dislike something, you gotta' know what it is you're trying to make fun of if you're going to parody it successfully.
Then you realize if they were making cd games of any sort they were probably a nerd or geek themselves, if even a surface level one

Star Wars is such a massive cultural phenomenon, even back in these days when that fandom was probably at its lowest point of activity (and ironically enjoying some of its best content before we had things like Rebels and The Mandalorian) that people who have never seen a single film can point out who Darth Vader, Yoda, C-3PO and so on are.
Were this something with a much lower ceiling of accessibility, say the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series just off the top of my head, I'd agree. But I'd argue that an alien with only a passing knowledge of the human species and a decent understanding of English could land on the White House lawn and explain itself by saying "hey, I'm a Yoda". The franchise is just _that_ much of a cultural icon for that much of the human race. This literally feels like someone skimmed through a T.V. Guide, saw what shows were broadcasting, then pointed at one and went "but what if Ross was a Chewbacca? That would be the hahas?"

Fun fact about Microshaft Winblows 98: WayForward Technologies, yes *that* WayForward, actually did the programming for the game. Kinda glad this didn't kill them like it did Parroty Interactive since it was their last release, fifteen months before closure.
It probably helped that Wayforward already was hard at work on other GBC games at the time, including Shantae, so they could survive something so garbage like Microshaft
