Also…..who the hell still listens to radio??? I’m in my 60’s and I haven’t actually listened to radio for over 10+ years…..why do they put so much emphasis on US radio play😳😳😳

    • @kshafer6220
      @kshafer6220 Год назад +36

Because that's how they filter out anything they don't want to have on the Billboard Hot 100. Radio these days is one big advertisement: 15 minutes each hour of the usual commercials for sponsors, and then the remaining 45 minutes of advertising for those songs on the playlists. The playlists that the labels pay for slots on. The more they pay, the more spins they get; the more spins they get, the higher they chart. Listener requests are a thing of the past; most DJs admit that they aren't allowed to alter the playlists.
So the (vast majority of the) artists that rank on the Hot 100 due to bought-and-paid-for playlist spins have literally purchased their positions. And when that doesn't work out as intended- such as when 'Like Crazy' is blowing every other artist out of the water- BB changes their metrics without warning or explanation. Such as, refusing to count 100k sales of 'Like Crazy' in order to send the song plunging from #1 to #45.
Billboard has attempted to change the meaning of popular music from 'people like this music and want to hear it often' to 'we get paid to play this music often.' It's not working out well for them, BBMAs are almost as discredited as the grammys are now, but they keep trying, and they keep making themselves look dirtier and dirtier in the process.

Thank you for bringing up the fact that the new kpop category is based on race! The fact that SUGA and Twice are in the same category show that the genre of music wasn't the basis, and the fact that Jungkook's all English song was included demonstrates that the basis isn't even language. The only thing all those artists have in common is their race, and it's obvious and shameful. The category exists so that they can try to pull in viewers without having to let Asian artists compete in the major categories. I don't even bother watching any American music award shows because they are so corrupt, and they don't even put on entertaining shows, so what's the point?

Love listening to your analysis of these things. I am Army 7 years - OT7 with perhaps a mild bias to Jimin. I was really happy to see Wildflower put up for consideration and then peeved that it was in the pop category [since when is RM a pop singer] and NOT up for consideration for either SOTY or ROTY [especially when various music publications ranted about how brilliant it was and even put forward the words SOTY in reviews]...at least D-Day was put forward in it's right category for consideration. I really felt of all that was submitted for consideration from all 7 members, Suga had the best chance of not only a nomination, but actually winning.
I am peeved that none of them got a nod BUT absolutely pi**ed off that D-Day didn't when it is by a country mile, the best rap album this year. Is there a bias in me saying that? - yeah probably, but I LOVED music long before I became ARMY. No wonder Army [and all other kpop fandoms, jpop, tpop etc] feel there is xenophobia at play. Is it that? I don't know, but for hell certain the Grammy's have become more and more political...more and more agenda driven - they were supposed to represent the best re musical and artistic integrity - now they have no meaning.
I feel for the whole group but especially Yoongi - he has, at least in past years, been really keen on winning one - now I hope for his sake [and the other members too] they let it go because they will never know if they do win one in coming years if it's because they were the best in the category, at that time, or because they decided to be agenda driven [they being the Grammy's] and award one of them or the whole group as the *token* K-Pop artist. BORAHAE from Australia :) Happy Thanksgiving xx

Thank you for your report on this topic. I’m truly disappointed with these two big award (?) shows. You hit it in the spot. I still think there’s still that mentality that Western music regardless of the song genres these artists sang still is.far better than the rest of the world. Music is universal. I don’t understand the Korean language but whenever I listen to BTS or the busking group Begin Again I am uplifted with their music. Then I check on the English translation. BTS ARMY is so far is an enormous fan base and global. This speaks for itself. If all the fans don’t watch Grammys it’s popularity will definitely decline. If I remember it right when Grammys invited BTS for the first time the shows rating hit the rooftop. I maybe exaggerating but that’s how I feel. I used to watch it but I’ve stopped watching it until when they invited BTS. oh well Grammys is an American show but I got tired of. Not all awardees are good.
Grateful for your neutral views. You really study them. I seldom give comments and this is what’s coming from my heart.

Ty for the video. I think it's part of a bigger picture where the world has now access to more than their local artists and the American one, so instead of being spoon-fed "the next superstar" or listening to advertisement, they can search the web, helped by algorithms that will help them discover songs within the genre they enjoy. There was an opportunity for such awards to move into a global market but, like a lot of other American industries, instead they chose to "protect THEIR" products, forgetting that their greatest success was the import of different ideas, genres, styles from non mainstream (white) culture. Netflix offered movies and drama from all over the world, creating a wave of interest for Kdrama, Xianxia, Bollywood, etc. USA was an obvious market easier to reach than multilingual Europe eg, and English is an international language but beyond that, the rest of the world has learned, because of the Americanization of their art, to be ok with subtitles, songs in languages they don't speak. With new choices, comes a more selective approach that looks at quality, integrity, artistic flair and the initial shock-interest for the sleazy and the violent has an overdue date. At this stage, it no longer matters: their awards are now seen as a cheap promotion of in-house products rather than a celebration of what is quality... or even now trendy. They struggle in their irrelevance. Meanwhile a concert without trims and flashy spectacle, just a great voice and an almost intimate interaction attracts 12 millions view on a small platform (JK's concert on WeVerse). The Awards' shareholders need to fire their PR department or whomever took those decisions unilaterally, they lost millions in revenue.

To most of us in USA, western awards have become irrelevant yrs ago. BTS brought them back for a couple yrs. but that was a problem. Those award shows can't compete with the MAMA, or MMA.
It's become so obvious that it's all paid for. Bribes are everywhere reportedly, and it has nothing to do, or rarely does, with well composed or well performed music. BTS would have had a Grammy yrs before Butter if that was so.
Western musician's are pretty lazy and get by with standing on a stage and singing while looking good, or wearing very little clothes. There are very few artists who but on a concert worth going to, Gaga, Pink, Swift, Mars, Coldplay, and that's about it.
Proof is in the picking, you explain to me how in the world a song like IDOL never got even noticed, and that gross' Unholy won over any of the other nominees. They bought it is my best guess.
Personally, I'm sick to death of bad language for shock value, or lack of vocabulary, woman dressed like sex workers, then complaining about being objectified, I can see genre's getting divided, but IMHO things like best song of the year, etc. should be the best of each of the genres winners.
Fans voice is not diminished, neither are artists, they are all getting many votes in their bank accounts, LOL.
IMHO, if you can't sing live, don't. be happy with your MV and just admit you can't sing live. However after watching BTS dance and sing, there is no excuse for that any longer. Do the work.

@ Asian Entertainment and Culture, yes I’m glad that you’re doing this specific subject because now that it is into the later half of the year a lot of awards shows are going to be showing up on your TV ! Grammys have always been bias they have excluded Latin and Asian groups they separate them for the fear that they know that they’re western or American artist will pale in comparison!
The K-pop fans have been calling out the Grammys and the BBMA award show etc. for the past decade I’ve noticed lots of changes especially in the BBMA charts rules,
You have already talked about it how JiMin of BTS was screwed by eliminating views and other tallied information that would put him at the number one position on the BBMA hot 💯 chart! One week park Jimin, “like crazy song“ charted at #1 and then drop down to the 50 !How does the BBMA awards shows as well as the other American award shows get away with inclusion? Why hasn’t the Asian American defamation come after them?
Other cultures that do music and speak different languages are always put in separate categories ! K-pop is no exception I’ve noticed that every award show has to make up a separate category and that is disturbing why is it that music cannot just be music if you are selling well and if you are at the top of the charts musically why aren’t you recognized for just doing your musical art!?
Now to address the performances of the award shows in the United States yes they do pale in comparison when it comes to the MMA and the MAMA award shows that are the two top Asian award shows. I know that I’ve been watching not just their award shows in Asia but also American
as far as comparing and I also noticed that the MMA and the MAMA do not have an English category for English singing artist like if you are coming from the west and you are doing a collaboration with one of the K-pop artist or American artist you don’t get nominated and there’s no separate categories usually it’s straight south east Asia musical artist that get nominated and win the awards. Is there segregation is there prejudice is there xenophobic yes on both sides of the coin one side of the coin being the American music award shows and the other side is the Asian music award shows!
Thousands and thousands of people have probably already mentioned this in the comment section Asian inclusion is still prevalent no matter where you are in the western musical arts!
BTS dominated the charts back in 2021 when they did their English songs the only reason why I think they did their English songs was so that they could get AirPlay on the radio and to be nominated but not necessarily a K-pop category for the Grammys it was always “duo or group “or “social musical artist” nominations categories.
The AMA’s did recognize back in 2021 that BTS were the best artist they’ve got artist of the year they got best duo or group and also social music artist?! I’m not too sure about the last one if that was still there go to award that they win every year?
I stop watching the Grammys after that trolling and using of BTS name in order to get views for their show! I even didn’t watch the BB MAs this year because I didn’t find it at all entertaining the first half an hour that I got into it I just consider it people dressing up in elaborate outfits expensive Fashion lines that they are promoting on the red carpet!
Just the simple fact that they have a committee that is the ones that make the decision on who really is going to be nominated this year !
66th annual Grammy awards are going to be in February 2024 they switch places with the BBMA! The elimination of all K-pop for the Grammys was a threat of severe prejudice! And no I do not think the judge panel are knowledgeable about K-pop and knowing more about the songs that have been hitting the BBMA and other charts in the western and global music world!
What the hell, do we do as fans of K-pop when we have streamed their songs and we buy their physical albums and we request radio play but every time they change the rules and they purposely change the rules to Target against K-POP!
Sorry for the long comment and rant but I just can’t hold my emotions and feelings for the injustices of the music charts and award shows in the United States!
I’m telling you the truth K-pop fans no matter what artist you support in the K-pop world of music we need to boycott these American award shows eliminate our artists!
Where’s as into excluding and separating or segregating our favorite K-pop artist. Jungkook definitely deserves a Grammy for his album and for his three singles that came out this year! Will he even get nominated for next year I doubt it!!!!💜

That’s right. Back in the day a Grammy meant something. Now it’s about segregating the Asian and Latin musicians especially if they know they’re good. Last Grammy season BTS performed Butter and yes fans were screaming from the upper balcony which frustrated hosts and musicians who didn’t know anything about BTS. The hysterical thing was after BTSs unbelievable performance every single musician sitting in the superstar seating ringside let’s say gave BTS a standing ovation! Not only that but so many of the performers were up on their feet happily dancing to their music. The stars know what’s going on and most don’t like it but it’s all about the greens that grease the palms. Well I take that back, before that was the case but now after all the twists and turns and nasty changing rules they KNOW BTS has the talent to sweep the awards in all categories. Even inviting Black Pink to perform and they’re using them to bring up viewer numbers. We’re all wise to the game now and we (fans) an at least BTS all agree we don’t need Grammys or any other awards that are prejudice! That’s my stance and I’m sticking to it. Lol I’m not a young person either, well I’m 65 years young.

@mlynlim5337, what’s so great about the Grammys well at one point they were good they were I thought allowing other groups to be nominated outside of the United States and English-speaking countries for categories! The Grammys are not that great but to win a Grammy shows that you are best in the category that you were nominated for from the other artist in the Korean music award shows a DAESANG is equivalent to a Grammy.
If BTS would have won that Grammy back in 2021 instead of Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande‘s for best pop and duo or group, I think they would’ve change how American award shows see BTS not just this little boy band from South Korea! And that’s exactly why the Grammys should be boycotted because they’re xenophobic, their bigotry against other cultures that they have to either make a separate category or completely ignore them like they did recently when the nominations were released there were no K-pop nominations! No the Grammys aren’t that great matter fact they’re garbage but it’s easy to tell somebody who watches the Grammys every year that you’re American or your UK artist or your Latin artist is most likely going to be nominated & win a Grammy ! When it comes to K-pop they completely snubbed and ignored BTS!

To my mind, I think BTS wont want to appear at the BBMA from the moment BBMA isolated KPop categories. By doing so, BBMA has set its records straight KPop is just ASIANs.
Apparently, they included Jimin in this years the Top Selling Album category along with US artists to please the ARMY of BTS. Fact, Jimin will never tolerate bundles and payola tricks as they usually do in the US.
Ironically, BBMA did not nominate Jk in any popularity award category outside the KPoP category because they knew he will surpass all American celebrities, including Taylor Swift, in a swift motion. Who can deny JK''s popularity in the US. Data wont lie. Hundreds of fans waited for him for days whereever he was set to show up, just to see him in person.
The problem with BBMA is that they are forgetting that Kpop fans are legit, especially BTS Army, and, thus, they demand credibility and transparency. Worse, BBMA removed the Social Artist category after BTS got a grand slam of 5 years for fear that BTS will surpass Justin B's 5 yr grand slam in the same category. Worse, BBMA would suddenly change their rules according to their mood.
Remember Suga's Day 1 concert in NY and Jimin was also there at the same time to attend Tifanny's anniversary? Most of Suga's concert goers where stranded and had to park a mile away from the venue and run fast more than a mile because many routes were blocked since ARMY fans were camping for a week already around that Tiffany Bldg. just to get a glims of Jimin. This was attested to by DJ Dino (a KPop reactor based in the US),who went to Suga's Concert and was amazed how huge ARMY fans because, as he witnessed the ARMY fans at Tiffany Bldg. were huge. On the other side of the district was Suga's full house concert.. DJ Dino said, he has not seen any vacant seat in the area where they were seated, not to mention the costly ticksts he bought. Indeed, data wont lie.
RM has said about this when he defended the ARMY on being accused of manipulating the charts, "It's them (BBMA) who made the rules. Our fans are just complying with whatever rules they (BBMA) may set. Fortunately, our ARMY fans are quick to meet any changes in their (BBMA) rules. By now, I guess they (BBMA) now know that our Army fans dont play games." - this is paraphrase but this what he was trying to say in that interview.

Im gonna try my best to be respectful but it's kinda hard when you see the same artists win multiple awards on the same night for doing the same old tired thing they produced two years ago.
For me it is not just about my favourite artist or performers winning an award. If you are a follower of BTS you get used to their standards, the artistry, the skill and talent of theirs that they are always honing and you expect nothing less. So why the heck should anyone be forced to watch these mediocre shows and their mediocre artist?
They all sound the same to me, not their voices, but the style and the tone and the message is all the same and it just never ends.
BTS members are getting recog ition for their works of art from other countries all over the world, they don't need a bbma or Grammy award from this one. The only reason I wanted one of them, Jungkook, Jimin or Suga to perform on that stage was to bring down the pillars of that house once and for all.

It reminds me of kids getting an award just for showing up at school. I think a lot of artists are losing interest because of this. As well as a lot of viewers. Most artist appreciate recognition by going to their concerts and listening to their work not necessarily an award. These award shows are too long for me. Thank you for your thoughts. I only became a BTS fan this year (I know I'm late 😭) but I'd like to add the thing that broke the publics trust with the grammys in the west I witnessed is the year Macklemore beat Kendrick Lamar in 3 out of 4 rap categories back in 2014. Kendrick was objectively the more successful, artistic, popular and more culturally significant. Everyone left scratching their heads or calling racism. Regardless it showed the true colours of the academy that they do not give awards fairly and based on merit but that they are corrupt and dont actually have their ears (and heads) to the ground.

USA radio doesn't take requests, unless they are small independent radio stations. The 3 major radio stations in the USA went on a spending spree trying to buy up as many smaller radio stations as possible in a bid to be the major Radio provider. USA radio is already dying as less and less people are tuning in. It's only keep alive by 'Under the table deals' with the Music companies who pay to have their artist latest released played over and over again. It's totally illegal but if you follow USA new's there have been plenty of instance's where people have been caught as it's illegal to pay radio stations to play a artist song. Yet they still count all those illegally bought radio spins as a major factor for their billboard charts.
The Billboard charts have allowed 'Bundles' to be used again to count towards Record sales which are bascially freebie's give out if you buy something like a concert ticket, a piece of merchandise. This doesn't bring in money for the artist it will only help them get up the Billboard Charts. If the artist can do that few time's it's look like they are doing well and then they'll get free spots in large Music Festivals, sponsorship and endorsements. eg get to be in advertisements on TV and Radio on Billboards, become brand ambassadors etc and that's where USA artist make their money. While those Artist's who have managed to cultivate massive fan base's who will buy their music and stream it are the same one's who will pay to see them in concert.
The USA market is falling in on itself because it's full of people creaming off the top, greasing palms, being seen going to special lunceon's and after dinner drinks parties.

I am still amazed that BTS did not win in the group/duo category at the grammys , they were put up against collaborations of artist that sing together for one song and then win a duo/group award. A duo is a team of two people who sing together regularly. Grammys have many categories why not have collaborations category.
As for radio play, who listens to the radio anymore. It is all play lists etc …so you don’t have to put up with stupid songs that get played every 15 mins all day long. Everyone know their company paid big buck for them to be there so often. I wish they would get with the times and upgrade the system. If artists are good they will shine by themselves, in these days of tic tic and you tube anyone can go viral if they are good enough, and that should be shown on the charts. It is very boring to see the same people get the awards, (particularly Billboard)it makes you think that they paid their way to success instead of being talented.

The Grammys were boring until BTS. They should have won for Dynamite. (Not my favorite song, but it went global) and for Butter (and what an incredible performance!). When they stuck with the same predictable artists, I lost any interest in ever watching it again. As for Billboard, once they started stripping BTS of points when the American artists were never stripped of points for bundling and Billboard wrote some nasty articles about BTS, I was done with them as well. My only concern is that K-pop groups who rode the tail of BTS’s popularity will now win those awards. This is not hate to 4th-generation idol groups; it’s that Grammys and Billboard will give them an award to try to make up for the backlash by BTS fans.😅

The American Music recording industry is losing grasp. Tastes, geographical sources of music, platforms and willingness of people to explore all seem ignored in favor of an industry's fear that if they don't promote what makes them money measures such as charts and awards will be wasted. The industry tailors the treatment of artists to what makes them money regardless of considering how much money is actually being transacted within music. So anointed artists are either recycled or promoted. Thus, just like this video says Billboard, Grammys and the like reflect only subsets of a much larger industry so have reduced relevance. As to BTS and the Grammys, how many Asians ever have won anything over the years? The Grammys have a history of prejudicially excluding Asians and were only forced to give BTS glancing acknowledgement when ARMY pushed them to do so, partly hoping BTS would get military exclusion due to a major international award. ARMY nowadays is much less activist as military enlistment is de facto. Even promoting stream counts of solo members is much less aggressive. BTS streams tend to grow organically and much less spectacularly.

I'm like The Beatles had the advantage of being an all white group from the UK singing in English, BTS has a much tougher hill to climb. I think what separates Taylor Swift is like the other commenter said is her lyricism. I think she is a very excellent songwriter and her songs are also very autobiographical. So if fans want to know her relationships more personally they know they can find the answers in her music. She is always kind to her fans and she's mainly unproblematic. Something I noticed with Taylor Swift is she's so appreciative of other artists too. Like at award shows she's always singing along or dancing when other's are performing. I'm happy she tries to celebrate everyone. Don't get me wrong MJ is still number 1 for me, but I definitely understand the appeal of Taylor Swift.

Or are they predominantly K-Pop or Latin artists? From what I've observed European music awards show are predominantly local artists with a sprinkle of international artists. Each country will protect their own industry. BBMA, VMA and Grammys are American. I expect them to protect American artists, rightly or wrongly. Yes, it's cliquish and perhaps racist but the rest of the world does it, why can't the US?

All US award shows are irrelevant to the western public. Artists only care about Grammys because they use it to charge more money after they win. The voting process is now 100% like high school with some people elevating their friends instead of deserving artists. BBMA knew their actions toward BTS ruined their boost in viewers, so they tried to save money and it showed badly. Fan baiting a few other kpop groups still didn't give them the numbers they wanted. US industry will never be credible as long as we segregate music and let music companies and their top artists control the charts, radio and awards. US audience watched the changes and decline of credibility for decades, and that is why we don't watch or give as much meaning to them. Global fans are coming to the same conclusion now and I'm glad so they can stop being baited with false promises and meaningless awards. Western validation isn't the flex they thought it was. It's only impressive to people outside the US market until they know the truth. They use the global audience so they can advertise their top company picks to them. It is never to honor other global artists in ways they truly deserve. They just want that global money.

I'm not saying that there weren't some excellent performances but if you compare them to the performances in the mid 2010s (BTS in 2016 or Big Bang in 2015 for example) they were child's play. The bad behaviour seems more spread out in KPop though. Yes, both shows needed to acknowledge the huge impact of more great artists, such as Stray Kids, Black Pink, and others. But production houses like SM, YG, and now ADOR need to get over their petty slights and send their artists to participate in the ceremonies.
I have seen the same slowish decline in quality at Korean award shows since 2019 that I have see in the US and it makes me frustrated---because now is their time to shine! They have so much attention and good will coming from around the world, especially from fans in the US and Canada who are fed up with the mediocrity that has gripped the western award shows for at least ten years (what a breath of fresh air it was when BTS showed up at the BBMAs yes they had devoted fans but what got the rest of going were those performances like no one else was doing!!)
There is no doubt that Grammy shot themselves in the foot when they declined to acknowledge the best performance by the most significant band of that era, twice in two years! It will become yet another of the marks of poor judgment that have been exhibited by the academy over at least the last six decades. I would just hate to see the Korean award shows suffer the same fate.

One thing that blows my mind at present is that they are creating new categories to exclude artists based on race and yet a lot of the so called American or Western artists are immigrants from a different part of world (not born in the US). Wouldn’t those artists be considered as being from a different race? It may sound stupid, but I think that should matter since they are categorizing based on race.
Is it the fact that their profits 💲💲💲which we the general public create remains in the US?
Shouldn’t we then stop 🛑 supporting a system which we fund⁉️
I lost interest and respect if I may add for a lot of western artists long ago. However, that is not to say that all hope is lost. US have some amazing artists that stopped working on their craft (there’s too much entitlement), and stopped trying to improve themselves only to have the money do the performance…
Honest artists that are in this industry for the love of the art needs to complete honestly. They can start with respectfully turning down awards they didn’t earn…

More and more little radio stations are being bought out by bigger conglomerates and closed down except for airing content that is played from somewhere else so syndicated…..making it 1 narrative from 1 group deciding what is aired. It is no longer driven by listeners from the whole country requesting songs. You can’t even take a cd in to the DJ so your fave can get air time. It has to come from the label company. And that has been going on for over 10 yrs.

In my opinion, stating that a song doesn't deserve award and others deserve it is a degradation of art. Award shows like this will be vanish overtime as the world begin to understand and accept true authenticity. It's about taste, why whould we give silver or golden cups to which one the best and not? It's an ego show, while being authentic means using your ego in the right way which is using it to express yourself, not to dominate something. We live in this world together each people are unique, and that's why there are so many genders and that's also why gender opinion is the new religion debate.
So i think if we really care about music, we should not have to worry at all about this award things. Music is about manifesting feelings, emotions, and thoughts, not about being the best. And i am not going to talk about talent and creativity as it actually doesn't matter at all, and mind you i am an artist myself and I have like zero followers while people calling me super creative and super talented. Art is not about talent, it's about expression. How do you feel? How do you think about certain things? And how your art can influence or trigger people.

While i agree that BBMAs are becoming irrelevant I disagree about the Grammy. The essence of Grammys are not the TV show. Even if it’s heavily bias et corrupt, Grammy are professional awards meaning professional in the music field rewarding other music professionals. The relevancy of the Grammys and I mean by that the prizes given by the Recording Academy, has never depended on the number of viewers or fans engagement or performances , the show broadcast by CBS is, and that’s 2 different things. Even if the Grammys are not broadcast anymore, the RA would still give Grammys to the artists, that how it started, the Grammy award ceremony was not broadcast on tv until 1971. What makes Grammy relevant are not the viewers or the fans but the great meaning they have for the ones that are concerned, the artists themselves. Despite all their flaws, tricks and the bad reputation of the NARAS, winning a Grammy remain the most prestigious thing for any artists even the ones that call them out but continue to secretly or openly submit their works to the RA in hope to gain a nomination. Because it’s an awards given by their peers, it’s recognition by their peers. As long as artists all around the world continue to submit their work to the RA the Grammy would be relevant.
As for the BBMAs, I agree, this award show is becoming a joke, but even though I hate the categories based on race, when it comes to Kpop, the only way to have Kpop groups in this show (and their fans engagements) is to create these Kpop categories because without it all the groups that were nominated don’t stand a chance to be nominated along the biggest us artists in the first place, except for BTS and their members, who have the numbers, the longevity and the stability. the truth is Kpop is not mainstream in the US, all these Kpop groups can’t compete when it comes US charts or US streams ( what BBMAs is about) their numbers there are not great. But it’s true that Billboard is trash… I mean putting Agust D tour on Kpop tour instead of Rap tour ( when his tour did better than the ones in the rap category) or Jimin, Jungkook even 50-50 in Kpop categories was a shame…(Jimin was nominated in a mainstream category though), I’m praying for their downfall

Grammy may not be popularity based but it still doesn't show much transparency on what merits are the so called artists have the credibility to get the award. It's the same set of artists who are nominated in the mainstream category ,do other Western artists don't qualify?

@@reality_2000 Grammy has never been about transparency or fairness. Grammy was created by 5 old white men in the end of the 50’s, when the popularity of black music and black artists was rising. Grammy was created by in order to tell people what they consider good music (essentially white) vs what they consider bad music ( black music at the time). Grammy is about power and politics in the music industry not about, about the connection artists have with the ones in power. For BTS to win a Grammy one day, Hybe will have to build a huge networking process in the US and I think it’s exactly what their are doing now especially with Hybe America and Scooter B.
