  • This tutorial uses version 4.1 of the PLPTool and aims to introduce memory-mapped input/output devices such as the seven-segment display, switches, and LEDs. The video starts with a simple loop using a jump instruction and a label, for the purpose of polling the switch values in real time. This is demonstrated using the simulated switches and LEDs. The video then goes on to include the use of functions, and conditional branch instructions, in the context of outputting to the seven-segment display. This part of the video touches on a number of slightly advanced topics, such as 'endiannes', the equivalence of hex and binary, coding for the seven-segment display, and shifting and orring bytes to align them into a 32-bit word. It is authored by Damon Cost (narrator), Vance Anderson, and Dr. Sohum Sohoni.
