As of few days ago, estimation was that about 300k Ukrainians moved to other countries, rest stays in Poland. It is easy for Ukrainians to integrate with Poles. Languages are fairly similar and there are quite a few words that sound exactly the same and while you might not understand everything being said, just those few words can give you the context good enough to communicate, problems arise when either side uses words that are not shared or similar. However, it is easy for Ukrainians to learn Polish. Then there is a case of being fairly close to home, so it is understandable they prefer to stay here. That being said, Poland is on it's way to house the highest ammount of refugees in the world. Record currently being held by Turkey at about 4 million. We just took in 2 millions, in 3 weeks... It is an enormous challenge however, so thank you for helping out!

I was a refugee myself. My mother decided that all her kids had to escape from a Communist country... I can tell you that actually in hardship and danger that I found people with their hearts of gold. It's many years now and I've settled well in my new country, but I still remember that time very well.
The European Union debated penalties for Poland for not allowing emigrants to the country. "Emigrants" sent by the Lukashenka regime. Meanwhile, Poland has already accepted 1.8 million refugees. The refugees were not placed in crowded and humiliating refugee camps, the Poles hosted them in their own homes. What is the rest of the EU doing during this time? It is really very comfortable to sit in a warm house, away from the tragedy of these people and just watch it. Almost like a nice TV series. And now they are sitting and they are afraid that their standard of living will not fall. I don't think that was what the word Union meant.
@@wilhelmraspe1846 It's great! There would be no excuse that they didn't know the address where to send the helmets. They will be able to hand them over to the refugee in person.
People lured by Lukashenko to cross the border in many cases were also running away from war. But they were not white Europeans, victims of RuZZian aggression. So they were illegally pushed back. Polish government accepted breaking its own laws because Muslim, colored people were foreign, 'dangerous'. Poland revealed her ugly face then. And now the same xenophobic government accepts 1,8 million people because they are Slaves, they speak similar language, they look familiar and are victims of Poland's archenemy. And now Poland shines. These 2 Polands are the same country - both ugly and beautiful. Just like every human being. We cannot pretend it's not the case and focus only on the bright side.

UNICEF are an amazing organization. In my opinion you did the right choice, my family has been helped by UNICEF and I know it works. I have a permanent monthly order to them. It's not much but it's every month. After the fall of the dictatorship in Bulgaria, highly skilled people (IT professionals for both my parents) who didn't have links to the communist party or a house in a village with a big garden to supplement their salary, struggled a lot. And thanks to the oligarchy system, the country was plunged in such a disarray that at one point my parents had a salary of on average $10 per month (actually less) thanks to the hyperinflation. At this point a foreign family "virtually adopted"/sponsored my younger brother who was a toddler at that time and sent some $5 per month in exchange of a photo of him. It was the difference between starvation and some food on the table for the whole family . I will always support UNICEF as much as I can.
