I feel acient - I remember when the saracens had +3 on their Cav archers against buildings. A bonus almost nobody knew about because saracen CA was not common. The opponents thought I was cheating when I killed TCs with CA in Castle age, but it was a thing.
@@faultier3215I do remember the bonus was used to be higher, like +5 on buildings. It's just during the voobly era nobody really liked CA, it was too expensive for unit that hard to be microed.
I guess the Spanish bonus only helps if you are actually in a team game (or you manage to trade with your opponent, or you got some specialty map with neutral markets), while the ones mentioned here also help in single-player games.
I especially like Spanish+Persian combo on closed maps, because the +25% Spanish trade can be sped up even FASTER with the Caravanserai. This speed bonus stacks with the % trade bonus making it fairly OP. This is not even counting the Spanish gold bonuses and Persian 0-gold crossbows, so you can never out-gold this team in the late game, even with 5 relics. Plus, the Spanish Knights/Cav/Pal gets the Persian +2 attack vs archers which is always nice while the Elephants/Savar tank the damage which is crucial for those mass chaos brawls. That's if you don't use the Spanish Heavy Cav/Hand Cannon/Bombard.
Teuton bonus is really OP, because it literally hard counters every monk strategy in the game. You can get teuton bonus + get devotion and literally make Persian war elephants viable.
@@krystofcisar469 All civs get Devotion. Only some civs miss out on Faith, but Persians aren't one of them so this would make them viable against Monks.
5:13 11 I hope the Dravidians bit never dies lol My dad usually plays Mongols when we play together and I definitely missed the scouting bonus when it’s not there!
In my opinion Inca bonus is extremely underrated, an extra llama wich is like 80 or 90 food is extremely good in the early game because it helps to aford technologies and units for the flank and helps with castle age timing for the pocket. Im surprised you didn't consider it at least for honorable mention Hera.
But it is just a one time bonus!! The Aztec bonus is throughout the game -- the rate at which ur gold grows after u take the relics is underrated or never spoken about much!!
Ethiopian output bonus 4 lyfe! You can spy on your opponents, identify villagers targets the enemy doesn't you know you can see, see enemy movements in advance etc.
With due respect all your team bonus are primarily focussed on fueldal and castle age plays just with one team mate. My list for late game team bonuses are 1. Spanish - Whole game benefits all players continuously. Needs trade carts though. 2. Berbers/Vietnamese / Italians- Poor unit combo civs get a huge boost entire game. 3. Burgundians / Aztecs / Bengalis / Chinese - Trickle of resources entire game but difficult to quantify. For aztecs and burgundians we have to collect the relics first. 4. Slavs/ Dravidians - Even if all your houses in base are destroyed, your fwd military buildings will provide the lush required without need to build new houses. Dravidians are good only in water maps though. 5. Britons/Goths/Celts/Gurjaras/Turks/Huns/Magyars/Lithuanians - All giving boost to faster military production throughout the game. These team bonuses last entire game rather than one time effect or used as a niche.
Pros spend a lot more time in Feudal and Castle age since they can effectively punish teams that are too greedy. That is one reason he is valuing early bonuses so much. The other reason is that late-game bonuses are not always helpful because sometimes you die before Imperial age or are too far behind by then to catch up.
Spanish I agree is an impactful late game bonus that Hera should have at least honourably mentioned. The others you mention (apart from Italians which Hera mentioned) are nowhere near impactful enough in late game to make a big difference. The issue is inflation - in early game, even a small bonus is huge compared to your current eco. Post-imp, a bonus has to be absolutely busted to make a real difference. Map control and unit composition are what wins you late team games, not slightly more gold from relics.
In my opinion, top tier players like Hera and others are ALWAYS focused on dark, feudal and castle age strats!! They finish the game in castle age mostly, but low ELO players like me and the majority of us, we like castle and post castle stuff and prefer to wait it out!! It might help these play casters to cast more of castle and post castle stuff cuz that is where the majority of the players are!!
@@ViciousSatsuma Most of the players of you see in unranked Looby play Amazon tunnel and black forest. After playing the game for 22 years now I think for long game players if the game lasts for more than 45 minutes these bonuses help to sustain unit production. Even a 10 percent difference in resources from 35 minute to 1 hour mark will make a huge impact in the outcome of the game. That said game time is the most important factor when discussing such team bonuses.
Nice video! To be honest, I thought about Spanish for number 1. That might be only for post-imp battles and closed maps though. Best late game team bonus? What do you guys think?
I remember back in the day playing the original Conquerors 3v3 or 4v4 with my cousins, and every team was basically required to have someone play as the Spanish.
Hera's list clearly uses his own context of high-skilled players. In those games early advantages are much more important because players are skilled enough to snowball small early advantages into bigger advantages to win the game. Spanish is not on the list exactly because it's only a lategame bonus. That's why you see his top picks all being early game things that late-game players wouldn't even care about. Mongols for scouting, Slavs/Dravidians for extra pop room early on, and even Saracens for breaking palisades with archers. These are all bonuses that sound weak unless you think about very specific early-game contexts.
I think Spanish one is less universal, amazing for lategame focused maps but on something like Arabia is not usually helpful Should have been an HM though
This is a good list, i especially like the Slav pick which for some reason flies under the radar. Mongol bonus I agree is good, but not my number 1. Spanish needs to be at least mentioned though!
For the saracaens it can be calculated like this. In the late game having 2 archery civs and some melee you can easily have 50 archers in a base set to kill infantry if they span, then attack buildings when they're free to. 30 attacks a min for two min is 60 extra attacks, times 50 archers is 6000 dmg with plus 2 to buildings. You'll be able to hollow out bases considerably easier and reduce the amount of troops that can stop your infantry and seige.
Honorable mentions: berbers, they have a really strong and mobile skirmisher for the allies especially if they're a cav civ in need of a breakthrough bohemian with spanish have the best trade combo for trading maps. super honorable mention; magyars for sending villagers out to lure boars or build walls in black forest
The team bonus that always puts a smile on my face is the llama from Incas. I never think about it before the game loads and I just see this silly llama that also helps me out with food
Teutons and Bengalis would have pretty good synergy imo. Teutons would benefit from Food in trades for their Infantry and Paladins (Sure their Farms are cheaper but that benefits Wood savings more than Food), and Bengali elephants would be even MORE conversion resistant, making Monk strats unviable.

Still a very potent team bonus, making the best knight counter in castle age unreliable at best.
Spanish on certain maps and constellations is probably the #1team bonus (4v4 BF/Michi) - while on other maps almost completely irrelevant (2v2 arab, open maps). So perhaps too situational.
