Hi Phil, Thailand South borders Malaysia's Kelantan is under floods water but no deaths have been reported I had reshuffled my plan to Hatyai in 2nd week of December as I believe the torrential rainfall will not spare Hatyai as too much rainfall will not be a pleasant vacation experience none the less the wet season is unpredictable these days Thank you for updating .🌧🌧🌧

Hello Francis! Kelantan is one of the four provinces that used to belong to Thailand until the evil British colonialists transferred them all to Malaysia in 1909! I read a report yesterday that 51,000 people had been evacuated from Kelantan. I spoke to a friend of mine a couple of hours ago, whose wife is a nurse at PSU. He said there has been one death reported. Something to do with an old guy driving a pickup truck and a bridge, but I'm not sure of the details. It's still raining here. Apart from a couple of short breaks, it has been raining continuously since Sunday. This reminds me of October 2010. People here are saying that it's going to take quite a while to get back to normal. I'm not sure how things will be by the 2nd week in December. Cheers!

Good evening Sir, thanks again for your latest update.

Stay safe Phil. Don't go out unless it is really necessary. I experience the flood at Songkhla myself during December 2022. Now I really understand why Thai people love their pickup trucks!

@kinhwayong Thanks! I'm not a fan of pickup trucks myself, but there are good reasons for having one here!

Yikes 😱 Hope things improve by Christmas week, I've already made plans for Trang and Hat Yai. While it's miserable weather here too where I am, I'm lucky that my biggest complaint is getting my laundry to dry! Take care 🙏

After covering an outside area of the house earlier this year, it was an opportunity to buy a tumble dryer. Just recently, it has been a blessing as clothes take ages to get dry when the weather is like this.
My wife has just gone out with a neighbour to look for food supplies. She has heard that the current situation could last for a long time. I certainly hope everything is back to normal by Christmas week, but no one knows at the moment.

Hope you and your family are safe. I was wondering how the flooding was going. I believe the intersection that goes to Pattani and toward the Central Festival shopping centre is flooded. I’m not planning on being in Hat Yai until February.

Thank you! Everyone's at home, and we're all fine. That intersection, I think, is Klong Wa, and yes, it's somewhere that keeps appearing in flood reports.
It's still dark here, and the rain keeps coming in waves. It alternates between light and heavy rain.
The local Thais have all gone into flood mode, panic buying to stock up on food. Everyone living here will have memories of a flood (or floods) in the past - me included. The last big one - the biggest flood in Hat Yai's history - was 2010. That was really bad and I was very badly affected. The only positive was that it prompted me to buy a house in an area that doesn't flood. That was a good decision as these extreme events occur every decade, or so - 1988, 2000, 2010, 2024. It should have dried out by the time you get back!

Hi Phil, Thanks for your important updates. FYI I am planning to drive in from Bukit Kayu Hitam to Hatyai next Thursday (5 Dec). Looks like I need to cancel the trip and request for hotel booking refund which I have already paid 50%. Hope with such situation, the hotel will agreed to the refund. Perhaps I will visit Hatyai again after next CNY. Please do continue updating the flooding situation in Hatyai City. Thanks and do take care.

@xundestravelfood7055 It wasn’t much of an update, I'm afraid. I'm just staying at home and avoiding going to any of the flooded areas. I read today that hotel bookings in Hat Yai have been cancelled for the next two weeks. The 5th, which is a public holiday, is a bit tight. It's still raining heavily at the moment, no one is certain when it will stop, and there is an expectation that flood water will arrive from Sadao. I'm getting really fed up being stuck at home. Even before the flooding issues, the torrential rain prevented me from doing a lot of things. I'll try to do another update, but as I'm at home, I'm only getting updates from other sources rather than first-hand.

I was thinking of visiting over Christmas
    Ill give it a miss
I've already been told it's flooded in the centre
    Stay safe

Thank you! It's probably a good idea to give it a miss! The situation is OK where we are, but the videos I've seen from other parts of town are really bad. This is the worst I've seen since 2010.

I'll be heading to Bangkok via Hatyai in Mid December, any update funnel I can rely on and if I should cancel my trip/plan?

    • @expatlivinginthailand
      @expatlivinginthailand  Месяц назад +1

I had a look around town today and uploaded an update. It's looking a lot better than I expected. I wouldn't cancel anything yet. It just depends what happens in the next few days. Earlier forecasts said the rain would stop today. Later forecasts said Tuesday. If we just have 'normal' rain from now on, there shouldn't be any problems.
