A million times easier to pull the axls. Just my opinion. Jacking up an 8500 lb truck using the differential bulb..?? Yikes. Tippy as f. Glad it didn't fall on you.
Brother im a mechanic. Done thoudands of these maybe more. Brother but im having a problem with one today. Everything is new the shoes, pads rotors! It's making a stupid noise though not a grinding more like a rubbing. Has it ever happened to you? I've taken this thing apart over 5 times put it together same stupid sound. The caliper returns back easily it's not seized! The adjustment is set right but it's still making a noise it's driving me nuts please Brother! Have you ever had that problem happen ?
My problem is the old parking brake shoes were siezed on the inside of the drum... couple hours of brass hammering/spinning/pb blaster... rotors off, remove shoes... replace shoes... star bar brought in all the way and the rotor doesnt fit over the shoes, correct rotor, correct shoes... problem unknown
@@davidscarano2443 yes i did, i brought them all the way in, i found the problem and forgot to update this thread, the amount of rust on the arm the parking brake cable attaches to is what was causing the issue. Built up behind the portion of the pad that keys into it and it wasnt seating properly.
@@mm-nl3qz thanks for sharing. I’m not looking forward to this. I just replaced brakes all around, had two seized calipers. One I fixed one I replaced, both front. But didn’t know the pads for e brake were inside or behind rotor. They absolutely don’t work right now
@@davidscarano2443 check the parking brake cables as well, inside the plastic "hose" the brake cable slides in what looks like the electrical "MC" metal jacket. I had moisture/salt and dirt get in because the outter coating rubbed off and rusted the hell out of the inside of the cable assembly siezing it completely. Had a few solid days of cursing before i chilled out and just looked everything over from the parking brake pedal to the rear parking brake pads.
In 5 minutes you can have the axle out and hub off. Then everything is right there. Isn't worth the fight doing it with the hub on.
I agree I just didn't wanna smell like gear oil or refill the diff that day to be completely honest. Its definitely easier pulling the hub tho.
Buddy do you think the hub would come off if he removed those axle bolts?
Lube the brake shoe cam! The thing that the brake cable connects to. Mine was frozen up.

Lmaoo I was in my shop. Got handed this for the first time. You’re point on bending the hooks, saved my ass on the spot
You don't put anti sieze or locktite on there. Waste of time.

Did you turn the adjuster to bring the shoes in?
