Bought an OM Flyer while vacationing in Santa Barbara in 09'. Being 6-5 230 lbs purchased a Big Ripper in 2014. Love the Big Ripper. Still thrashing at 57 yrs.
IAM 53 I plan on getting a 26 se bike. When they are available again. I don't care what people say.its a great feeling. It's about being happy and the best part is I got money now so I can get something really nice. You made my day.old school forever
Isaac Irvine I have a monster quad too it’s very smooth and the stock gearing makes it nice and easy to ride far I am 6’2” and fit it well, I upgraded it to hydraulic brakes I would only change the handlebars to super big honkins
Thank you for sharing your story and advice. Myself I was an 80’s bmx racer and freestyle, did it both. Had a Hutch Pro and Trickstar. Raced mtb and road, alao speed skated. Now turning 50 in February looking back at my bmx roots and will be getting a big bmx very soon. Honestly I haven’t touched my road bike and mtb bike, I know big bmx will get me back riding.
Just randomly went into a bike shop in Tallahassee and stumbled on a Surly Lowside, took it out for a spin and it IMMEDIATELY took me back to the rad 80's. I had a smile on my face the I couldn't erase for weeks, it was magical. I then stumbled on the new Rippers, I haven't ridden one yet but I'd love to have one. Thanks for the video, good stuff!
Bought my first big boy bmx after 30 years of riding mountain bikes. Just like my 80’s GT (nearly). Man, I’ve been grinning ear to ear every time I’m on on this thing. I realized I was riding to serious, fixed on speed/distance/fitness. This bike brought back the FUN I’ve been missing for so many years. Love your channel, love your content brother! Keep doing what you’re doing!
I still have my 1982 GT with diamondback "hairy Larry" turbo cranks that's been hanging in my garage forever it's still in pretty good shape I'm thinking of trading it to the owner of my bike shop for the 27.5 big ripper.
Am about the same age as you and spent my youth on a BMX. All day, every day. Used to race and had a GHP, but always thought the PK Ripper was cool. And now I’ve just ordered a Big Ripper and getting it in a few days. I am literally that kid at Christmas. I’m so psyched for it to arrive. Loved your video man. Made me sure I’ve done the right thing getting this bike. Fountain of Youth, bro!
Just picked up my 26 Sloride from my local bike shop. Ordered it like 2 months ago. Went for my first ride around the block since at least '96. I could feel the stupid smile on my face. I've been following a few old school bike post's on Instagram and I decided I needed to get back on one. Makes me miss my GT Freestyle and Diamondback Silver Streak. Seriously if you're "old school" you need one of these big wheels in your life! Love the channel, enjoy the ride!
Thanks dude it’s like you were talking directly to me, I’m 48 ex flatlander who just wants to get back into riding. Bought a Big Ripper today I pick it up on Monday I can’t wait!
That’s awesome man! Enjoy your new bike! You’ll be surprised at how easy these bikes are to ride and do tricks on. I added a potts mod stem bolt and 990 plate to mine and was doing lawnmowers, boomerangs, and tailwhips like it was 1985 again🤘💪
Love your passion! I’m starting to look for a GT 29 bike now and just for cruising so I can get out more. I skated when I was younger but riding a board now close to 40, the risk factor of getting hurt is so much bigger so cruise around on a bike and do some off-road is something right up my alley. Thanks for the inspiration. Big love from Spain!👊
I shredded a mongoose in the 80s. I just purchased a 2022-29er raw-teal cult devotion and throwing some raw brokeboyz santos bars and ride out supply and knight bike co parts. Awesome channel Isaac I've learned alot from you brotha oldskool thanks
Great talk! Thanks! Im 52 up in 🇨🇦 raced bmx all of the 80's and picked up this winter a Kink Drifter 26" still haven't rode it yet! Darn snow! You've inspired me to pick up an SE if the wife don't kill me first! Dream bike the Perry Kramer 27.5"! Cheers!
you should have shown us you riding it...i am 50 and i had a muddy fox small bike about 26 inch hard tail and front ..changed the bars and it was like a big bmx ..and i could pop a wheelie on that easy.... now i have another mountain bike...but im liking the big ripper...and i know i am old..but i can pop a wheelie for blocks and now working on my manuals....this shit keeps me young..whilst everyone else my age is deadly serious and acting mature.... the joy i get from popping a 1k wheelie and the kids screaming hey look at that....i love it. its probably the most fun i have had ..true joy ...in many years. keep it up ...ride until we drop. and once a bmxer....you know how to ride proper...my brother in law is quite well off and he has a top mountain bike worth maybe a couple of thousand....and he cant ride to save his life...cant pop a wheelie...can manual for about 0.5 seconds...bunnyhops are just some kind of mess...and he busted himself up recently just didnt know how to take the line and went flying and broke his collar bone....very rare to see a bmx guy on a mountain get this kind of injury...why ....BECAUSE WE KNOW HOW TO RIDE. GOOD LUCK....i wish you lived local to me ..we could show these kids how its done.
I'm 47 years old and I just sold my retro 80's Haro and closed the chapter sadly. Now I found that I can't give it away and I'm getting a Fast Riipper.
My first BMX was a DodSun Surfer BMX, similar frame to a Norco Spitfire from 1981 (I have read that those frames were made in the same factory anyway), black loop tail frame, with chrome forks and coaster brake, very relaxed geometry but at the time it didn't matter, I was happy to be getting into racing and just riding my bmx. I was 13 years old at that time. Now I am 54 I bought an SE So Cal Flyer in black with gold parts, love the bike but would still love to own a 24" racing BMX, maybe one day....
I'm 6'5" and 195lbs. The GT Pro Performer has a 23.5 T.T. running a laid back seat post. The handle bars are a little short for me, but I turned 49 May 25th. So I am still wanting to get a 9+" handle bar! Might even add a bit taller bar and a laid-back seat post to the Fast Ripper.
BUILTLIGHTWOUNDTIGHT my buddy Matt Rickard from SE Bikes runs 10 inch bars and says it makes the bike perfect for him. He’s @rlmattrickard on Instagram. Message him and he’ll help you get dialed in both bikes. If you go with taller bars, come back and let me know what you think🤘🙏
It is for me! When I was a kid I was a skate boarder. I use to hang with this kid Todd Anderson. He rode a mongoose. I don’t recall him showing anything crazy potential at that time. I moved away, and then he became one of the pioneers of freestyle in the 80’s doing just incredible things on a bike! Cheers Todd!
Yep we were kids in Camarillo Ca. Todd went on to amazing things. I had problems later on with his brother Mark - God rest his soul! All my fault. But it is an interesting moment in time to hang with the legend before he was a legend. I wish he would write a book!
I have a big ripper, a 29 se quad, haro master freestyler. And got a gt pro performer heritage 26 on order. Love them all. I'm 47 also and reliving my youth big time!
@@troygrooms5724 Quads are the greatest bikes made in my opinion. I want to find a "normal" sized 29 quad for my next bike. The monster quads are beautiful as well.
Im an Old BMXer from the 80s bought my self a 26in Blocks flyer SE Camo ride every day!! Im local in Dobson Ranch glad I found your channel Awesome video thanks.
Isaac Irvine That sounds good I wold love to ride with you.. I know where freestone is My son loved that park 🤗 It will be great swapping stories with ya 🏁🤘🏼
I got back into bmx a few years ago after quitting around 1988. When I started again I rode 20” bikes, Oldschool and newschool...I loved it but something wasn’t working. Now I know - old guys need big wheels! I’m on a 24” now and I haven’t touched a 20 in over a year. Happy camper!!
6’3” and 19 yrs always wanted a bmx, the 29” are making it perfect for me to jump into bmx now... seeing the passion you have for them is awesome brother💯 I will let you know what I pick up today!!
I've ridden them and their great. I just personally think the 27.5 - 29er bikes are the sweet spot. End of the day though, I just want people to enjoy riding their bikes again!
Awesome.... I am in Florida and born in 72 as well. Raced NBL BMX in the 80's. The hood I'm from was really great for NBL BMX. Mike Hale Rode for MCS. Jason Bruton, Shawn Simpson. Anthony Kirtland, Kevin Moody.... Everyone ranked 1-5 in the state and some in the Nation at one point or another....Amazing amount of talent in one neighborhood....Turning 50 this year and I am getting an SE 29 RIpper, for sure!!!!
After cheap bikes in my early years, I was fortunate to upgrade to a 1990 Dyno Compe, which eventually led me to a Dyno Slammer the following year. So many awesome memories were those years cruising and jumping on my Dyno. I quit riding when I got my drivers license. Tried getting back into bikes about 6 years ago and ended up with a Fat Tire Beach Cruiser. Although it was cool and fun to ride, it didn't have that feeling I had on my BMX. About that time, GT started bringing out the Heritage 26 & 29 throwbacks. It got my attention immediately. I debated forever and missed out thinking my the feeling would pass but it didn't. I scoured the internet for months and finally landed the 29" Pro Compe! Riding this brings back all the nostalgia I felt as kid! It brings me joy just staring at it!
Had a Redline MX11 back in the 80,s, upgraded it with Skyway tuffs, Vector bars( with the integrated stem) and redline cranks in place of the one piece cranks. Fast forward to 2018, and bought the black Beastmode and I love it! Riding 30 to 50 miles a day on it, always wanted a PK Ripper as a kid but way to expensive! Apart from a dodgy bottom bracket it's awesome! Hope they bring out a 27.5 inch Quad one day! Cheers to the old days!
Great video! I'm 50, and just picked up a used SE OM Flyer a week ago. I thought a 26" wheel would be good for me at 6 foot and 200 pounds. I'm an old bmx'r from the 80s as well. I thought I would be riding wheelies, doing bunny hops, side hacks, doing some jumps, and hitting my local single track mountain bike trails with it. I've ridden this bike almost everyday over the last week, and I've come to find that I really just want to ride and do wheelies. I can actually do without the bunny hops, jumping and whatnot. I definitely need taller bars. The bike just feels a little too small. I'm going to give it about a month, and if I can't get on with it , I'm going to sell it and pick up a 29. Probably a GT Dyno Pro Comp or Pro Performer as I prefer a chromoly frame.
This was my first RUclips video I came across when I started researching SE bikes and I'm back watching again. I ended up getting the 26 Fat Quad and it cruises like a Cadillac. So now I'm hooked and looking to get 29 Big Ripper in the next couple of weeks. I test rode the Fat Quad and a 29 Dyno before buying the Fat Quad. At 5'10 165 with long limbs, that 29 felt more ideal. I just couldn't pass up the fit and finish of that Fat Quad; truly special bike. 27.5s are harder to come by and I'll just stick with my 26 and that 29 I'm gunning for. These bikes are pulling me from the road bike world of cycling.
5-25-20 I will be 49 years young! I bought the SE Racing Fast Ripper on 10-5-18. After waiting for a couple of months for the Fast Ripper, I came across a GT Pro Performer after a phone call from a local bike Shop. Two months went by and still no Ripper! I had mentioned to the owner that I googled 29" bmx bikes, and never heard of a 1×10 speed bmx bike! So after a little research I found the Fast Ripper has a 23.6" T.T. and a 43" W.B. running disc breaks. I am 6' 5" with a 36" inseam. My knuckles drag on the floor!! So I preordered it. Okay so after that two months of waiting, the owner sends me a text, and says. Hey man, you want to come take a look at this big GT? I said sure do, I will pedal right over to take a look at it. After tossing around the idea of another $730 bike, I said I better wait for a little more time! After the third month of waiting for the fast Ripper. I got another text, hey you wanna come take the big GT for a test run?? I said no sir, because I would want to take it home with me if I did!! He said sounds great, I will see you in a little while. After riding the GT, I was headed back home for some extra money!!! Now I have a 2019 GT Pro Performer 29" and after waiting 15 months for the Fast Ripper, I am wanting to buy the 2020 GT Pro Performer!!! These monster BMX Bikes, ride like a Cadillac floating down the interstate!!!!! I am totally happy with the 71° seat stay and the 71° head tube angles. Both bikes are virtually the same ride, but still are world's apart!!! Both bikes are EPIC!!!!!!!!!! 😎
Man I still watch the movie rad like twice a month. I think one off my first bikes was a western flyer I think my dad bought it at our local western auto. Then I got a sweet looking huffy I think. I finally got a Redline later on and the rode the crap out of that! Memories!!
I raced BMX back in the '80s and I still have my 1982 GT that's been hanging in my garage for 27 plus years, I took my wife's bike into the local bike shop to get some work done and I found out about these PK rippers (I didn't even know big bike BMX was a thing) and I am just blown away and cannot wait to get one. I think I'm going to ask the owner if he will trade me the PK ripper for my old GT because he was very interested in it when I told him I have one.
Real talk. I appreciate you taking time to watch and comment. GT is still around and making some great big bikes these days. They have a Voelker DYNO and a few solid Pro Performers 🤘
The first 59 seconds is all I needed to take me back to 1986- excellent description to what I have been needing for info to get out there with my kids so they can appreciate what BMX did for us when we were kids! Thank you, I appreciate your work and your devotion to our sport
Anyone remember PK Ripper? They were pretty rad back in the 80’s. My BMX bike in the 80’s was a GT Mach One. Was a big Eddie Fiola fan back in the day.
what are the best ways to find communities for us Older riders when one des not wanna end up in a kids' park so to speak!? 🤷🏼♂️😂... this video... my... this video made me miss so much cool memories of doing Karate as a kid, being the first kid at the block getting a BMX with ABS brakes! and the Karate Kid, Goonies, you name it... the music of this video, the passion in the eyes of this man, the understanding of how good times were... I am sold on a We the People bike 👌🏻☺️
I bought a Big Ripper last year for just doinking around. Spring hit and made some changes to BMX it out. Now, pump tracks, dirt tracks and homemade idiot jumps lol!
Great Freaking Video!!! I’m 53 and got back in to riding again. I never had a “real” bike growing up. I had a KMART bicycle and loved it. Now that I can afford things I have a Fast Ripper, BEASTMODE, Big Ripper and just bought a Monster Ripper. Get out and ride!!! 🤙🏼
Bro, I had the same Moment of clarity. Met someone who had a 29 big Ripper took it for a little Spin and immediately fell in love. This was in late 2018 so I went on the hunt for a 2017 Mike buff big Ripper could not find one so settled for one like yours got the 2019 candy red big Ripper and love that Beast!
Bought a SE Racing Fast Ripper, 3 months later I came across a GT Pro Performer 29" in Neon Orange. Long story short, I decided to buy the big GT while I was waiting for the Fast Ripper. I love the big GT!!! 15 months later from the purchase date, the Fast Ripper showed up! I love both bikes!!!
@@BUILTLIGHTWOUNDTIGHT so I’m between the 29 pro performer or the 29 fast ripper. I’m 36 so grew up on GTs, Mongoose, ext but recently bought a trek hard tail 29in Marlin 6 that iv done a few things to and absolutely love riding it. I’m stuck between my choices because I want the GT because it reminds me of childhood but the fast ripper having gears is what I’m guessing I’d like more after getting this last trek. Iv yet to ride a 29 bmx so I’m kind of lost. Any help would be awesome
@@Junior-fd8ux I seriously love the Fast Rippers 1×10 drive train! I just bought the OM DURO XL and it is the exact same ride as the Fast Ripper! But it is running a 4130 Chromoly frame and fork, so its going to be stronger than the 7005 Aluminum framed Fast Ripper. If at all possible, you should ride both bikes and get the best feeling you are looking for!! Don't settle on any bike until you ride the one that puts the biggest ear to ear grin, on your face!!! Because I love the Fast Ripper, and the big GT! The GT fits my 6'5" body really well, with the taller handle bars, and the laid back seat post! But I can't beat the gears on the Fast Ripper!!!
Thanks for this video bro! I’m located here in NorCal and a lot of our local bike shops are all sold out! And I’ve been looking for a big bike for the longest time doing research reading reviews watching videos and what not. But I’m like you I want to ride around with my kids but at the same time feel like a kid and I can’t do that with a beach cruiser. After watching this I got inspired to keep looking harder, thanks bro!🤙🏼
Thanks man! I know Robby's Bike Shop in Stockton has Fast Rippers right now. There's always RideOutSupply.com as well. You're gonna love the ways these bikes feel! Welcome back brother!
Started with a 20" Hutch Pro Raider. Treated that chrome beast like a show car. First week I had it and ran through soggy dog poop and never put it away dirty again. Graduated to a Robinson 24" and a couple GT 24" aluminum bikes. Rebuilding my early 90's 24" Free Agent that I still have. And, going to pick up the PK Ripper 27.5 to celebrate COVID-19 and my first new BMX bike since about 1996. BMX isn't what it used to be. Kids are not building jumps in every empty dirt lot and cruising around town like we used to. I used to ride out of boredom and just don't have the time to ride like I want to as a productive citizen. :)
Thats awesome Jim! I'm looking into that PK RIpper myself. I love that it comes with hydro brakes stock. Kids are still riding, they just have skateparks these days. I've rode around and found some homegrown jumps here and there. I think us old riders just need to remind them how to build them!
@@BigBikeBMX Yep, just preordered the new PK Ripper. Not available yet but has everything I am looking for. I think I'll show the kids what rad cross ups and tabletops are!
After waiting 15 months for the first generation of SE RACING FAST RIPPERS, and buying the GT PRO PERFORMER. I got a text about the OM DURO XL, and it was still in the box! I said yeah okay I will have to come take a look at it. After a few months went by and spring had finally sprung! I got a second text with a picture of said bike all built up and ready to ride... So I went to the bike shop and said, okay show me!!! And now I am the proud owner of a SE RACING OM DURO XL, and I seriously love this bike!!!!! Then about a week ago I was wondering around a different bike shop, and found a SALSA FARGO XL gravel bike 🤔 it set me back around $2640.44 but its a 4130 Chromoly frame with a carbon fiber fork and hydraulic disc breaks. Now I am wanting to buy a road racing bike, for a little faster ride! Wind in my hair, and bug's in my teeth 😬 I am addicted to pedal powered machine's!!!!! 😎
You’re doing it right! Bicycles are fun to ride. There’s a lot worse ways to spend money. A nice bike collection makes sense. I mean, I own special tools for special jobs - why not have options for the bike you need to get the experience you want that day🤘
I'm 41..bought a SE big flyer 29" black sparkle about 3 months ago.. !! Got lucky and found 1 for a great price..!! I used to race back in the late 80s, had a GT and freestyle dyno..!! Looking for a cruiser by chance found SE ..so dope I'm only 5'3 but ride the eff out that bike !!! Lol
Thank you for the killer vid and some Eddie Fiola footage!!! The movie Rad! Haha! I was so stoked when that movie came out. Haha! Sorry you got your bike stolen, that really sucks! I'm 49 but I've never stopped riding BMX. I love bikes in general. I ride road, and MTB, as well as BMX. It's kept me looking and feeling better than kids half my age! Haha! I still have my GT since 1983, and a 1994 GT Pro Perfomer. But my main ride when I'm out with my girls is an SE Fat Ripper. You gotta manhandle that thing but I love it! Thanks again the vid bro!
@@BigBikeBMX Thanks! I’m not sure you remember but I loved the my PK 27.5 and after you said the Fat Quad was your new favorite over the PK I went ahead and ordered one and just put it together last night. That thing is awesome and beautiful!
Thanks for watching! The H1 was always my dream truck as a kid. They’re fun to drive but they’re super uncomfortable. The luxury items they added in 1995 were power windows and cigarette lighters. This one had a CD changer that was the size of NYC phone book too. 🤣
Just picked up a 2017 big ripper yesterday!! My wife and kids think I’m having a midlife crisis! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Im ok with it as long as I can ride again!!🥳 Great Video!!
Mostly people use that bike for wheelies as you said but most people get the longest bars to hand drag and I got 7 se my mom just bought me other will be here tomorrow and I’m going to put long bars for hand dragging but besides that I get you
SE is tried and true. They have entry level pricing all the way up. Grab a big flyer and see if you like the big BMX bikes feel - then start upgrading to make it more comfortable or just go shred. They’re built well!
What was the song at the end? :) I'm 51 and looking to get into BMX again with my 7 year old boy. Going to try to sell one of my DJI drones that I dont fly to get something. I miss riding so much. Great video! KEEP RIPPIN! Tater
Congrats on your new bike! Taller bars made the bike even better in my opinion. The SE bars are great but taller bars made the bike feel more like the bikes I rode in the 80s.
Great video! I’m from the same era had an 83’ GT pro growing up. Did some racing wiith it back in the day but ended up getting into skateboarding more heavily. Fast forward still skate old school bowls occasionally but just got the bug to get a bike again. Couple months ago got itch to get another bmx but bigger :) I ended up picking up a 2020 Radio Legion 29. It has very similar frame geometry to SE BR. I ended up changing up a few items for personal preference and it is a ton of fun to wheel on. Sweet H1 and sub’d.
I have an old 83 quadangle Reynolds 531 that I'm getting ready to powder coat back to the factory snow white and nos sticker kit, still undecided if I'm going to build it or hang it on the wall. I'm a little interested in the new SE bikes but none where I live has one and my local bike shop doesn't carry them, I wish I could test ride a couple before I make a final decision on which model to get
That bike sounds awesome! Tag me on Instagram if you have one - @bigbikebmx. As for new SE Bikes, they feel like our old 80s bikes only taller. They’re comfortable to ride and easy to jump and wheelie. You’ll have a blast on the monster quad 👍
I’m 48 just bought 2 GT world tour 29” and black and gold Se BIG RIPPER I’m waiting for delivery ! I wanted to hear your exact opinion from our age group of freestyle BMX RS GREAT VIDEO THANKS 👏🏼🚴✌🏼
I was just experiencing the same thing. I’m riding a phat cycle cruiser and it really isn’t a good riding bike. I recently stumbled into 26-29” BMX bikes. I’m totally stoked about the monster quad and the big ripper. I’ll buy one as soon as they’re back in stock.
I've been looking for a Haro freestyler but they stupid money now I'm 5'11" so I'm looking in to these SE bike range or wheelie bikes great Vid Dude 👍👌🤘🤘🤘
Haro has a Legends line that is priced at that 600 dollar range. SLO-ride and DMC Master for example. SE has lots of entry level bikes that have quality frames to build from with upgrades down the line. Welcome to bikelife bro🤘💪
I bought a DK General Lee from dan's comp in like 2002 for around $350. I only bought it bc it was a good price. In the picture it came with 3 pc cranks. But the one I recieved had 1 pc cranks. I called dan's and they were really cool and sent me a pair of 3 pc cranks. The bike was really decent. But I heard later on DK was selling bikes at toys r us for a while.
Isaac, I'm glad you reignited your passion cuz I don't think it ever goes away I know mine didn't. I'm 6-4 and about 270 and I have been searching and searching for that 29 inch big Ripper. Might your local bike shop still have them in stock? You're in Arizona and I'm in L.A. so if I had to drive up there it wouldn't be too bad. By the way I have a 2015 24-inch SE quadangle. Nice ride but just too small for me. basically still brand new, I think that 29 inch will be perfect. Great video awesome content, thanks!
City Hauler hey man, thanks for watching. Give Shaun a call at the shop, 623-255-5985. I haven’t been down to the shop since they ordered the quarantine in AZ. They’re still open and Shaun was telling me bikes move fast right now. I think I saw monster quads on their Instagram a few days ago too. If they have one and you come down to AZ, hit me up on my Instagram and I’ll come meet you at the shop too🤘
Cool man, I added your instagram. I just checked out a few pics, awesome. my 26" cult comes tomorrow. I have order some wrenchs, finishline line lube and $10 usb rechargable front and back (red) light combo. I'm pretty excited. I only had sockets, I was looking at a pedal wrench but the metric wrench set was only $5 more. My grandpa owned a storage company from 1985-95. People didn't pay and abodoned there lockers, I found so many old school mongooses, rims, parts and all sorts of other cool stuff. My cuz fixed up my parents garage around 2000 and threw away all the frames and extra stuff while I was at school. Senior in HS. I was only mad when I saw what they are selling for now.
I'm the crew before you guys at 55. We started with Mongoose and Redline. Still have my MK II with V bars and the very first Flight Cranks. Tuff Neck and Arai rims with snake belly tires. it's in pieces at the moment. But, I did buy a PL-26 Redline. I love that thing. The SE stuff is really nice. Those pedals though. I never liked the Shimano DX. Too big.
@@BigBikeBMX I suppose when I go to my storage I can slide the box out and snap pics and then throw em up on my Google Plus and post a link. I'll do that at some point this summer since I only go there to get boxes of comics from when I was a dealer. I'll remember. I think there is a set of Oakley 3's in the box as well. I'll be sure tosnap a pic of all that's there. I might even assemble what's there. Not enough for a complete but close.
@@BigBikeBMX Here's a quick little tale. I think it was 79 when I got my Mongoose from Yesteryear Schwinn here in New Bedford. It was blue with the blue crank set [Shimano?] Yellow Tuff Wheels, off the rack Mongoose stuff. I got a summer CETA job and got the MkII and V bars and Tuff Neck. I put the Mongoose stuff on it and I rode that for that summer. Then my Uncle Steve bought me a G&S complete skateboard and I stopped riding the bike. I'm more of a skater than a biker. But, when I was 17 or so the skater didn't go as fast or far as the bike so I upgraded the bike to mostly what I have now. Then I went to my Dad's house one day to pick up my Rush tapes. I was in the house 30 seconds tops. I came out and it was GONE! I mourned it and moved on. Then one afternoon while I was chilling with my buddy this kid comes flying by on a bike. I look and guess who's it is? I grabbed my board and chased that little prick down a hill. That was a mistake on his part since he ran out of crank and I was gaining! 65MM Red Kryptonics are a very fast wheel. Especially when I'm on em and pissed. I remember yelling "Don't let me catch you!" I caught em by the seat post before the bottom of the hill. I dragged him and the bike back to my house up the bock. I took off everything that was mine. I got back the frame, bars and stem. My seat post and seat as well as my Dia Compe brakes with the quick release [remember those?]. Never saw the rest, but I put it back together with Flight cranks from a friend and rims and tires from the bike shop. I never let that bike out of my sight again.
@@BigBikeBMX Thanks, I wasn't going to let that little bastid get away with my stuff. I remember asking him where he got it and all that. He dummied up and didn't say anything. I loved watching him pad up the street with what was left of the bike in his little hands. One thing is for sure, he learned a valuable lesson that day. I hope it stuck with him.
These big bike videos are right in my wheel house. As a 70's born guy I loved the bike scene in the 80's and of course life happens and here I am looking into getting a 29" to kind of relive the Golden years. I was curious if you know the difference I'd find between the BRipper and a BFlyer? Thank for making your videos and I'll look fwd to new content ✌
robert barrios it’s mostly parts I believe. The big ripper is bigger on paper but it’s like 1/10th of an inch. I’ve rode both and they felt the same. Big Ripper has more sealed parts so they’ll last longer. If you’re just cruising around town you’ll love them! Welcome back🤘
@@BigBikeBMX thanks Isaac, since my post i went ahead and purchased a Big Ripper. Added Cassette hubs, upgraded the chain wheel.. actually too much to mention, its been a busy quarentine lol. now I'm picking up a custom Big Flyer with all Big Ripper parts for my son on Friday in SoCal, Welcome back indeed! ✌🏽
I'm 6ft 320lbs you think these bikes are sturdy enough for me now I'm 48 years old?? Love the look of these bikes & rember riding anywhere & everywhere I cud....I appreciate ur opinion if this bike will work for me now days...thank u
Thank you so much! I called this morning to order one (live in Modesto) "29 Atlanta " but they put me on waiting list..$747 on ebay & social media going for double the price
OZONE bikes? Whaaat? I grew up in Cupertino in the 80's and I've never heard of them...and never saw one at Calabazas either. I probably would have at least tried one for $200. My GJS freestyle frame and fork were like $175!
Had a GT DYNO COMP. Always wanted a Hutch TrickStar!! Does anyone recall a Kabuki bmx?? I imagine that they are ultra rare as I've only seen one in my entire life...
I’m looking into getting a 29in bike I’m looking at the gt pro performer or the se big ripper I’m having a tough time choosing. The nostalgia in me wants the gt since my first bike was an 86’ jr performer that i still have
I'm all about the Big Ripper personally. The GT, however is a great bike and you'll enjoy looking down at it while you're riding and seeing those familiar tube bends and standing platform. You can't go wrong with either bike!
You probably would have been good on an OM Flyer. bars are an easy fix just find the ones that are as wide as you like and have the right rise. I just picked up a big ripper because I got a good deal on it, I think and OM or Floval flyer would have been just fine but if I don't like it, I can trade into either the OM or Floval flyer.
Yo Issac , hope all is well with you and the (family) crew. I’m just enjoying another one of your vlogs, just a quick pointer though, if you could please watch the levels of the music when it comes in, some times it’s way too high and it can scare the hell out me with such a sudden jump in DB’s on a pair of Hi Fi speakers. Cheers.
I’ve rode the squareback and the 27.5 A$OP colab. You’ll want taller bars but knightbikeco.com has some v bars that look like OG Redline bars. I personally found my home on the PK Ripper 27.5 and love the geometry. Feels exactly like my 80s bikes felt. You’ll love the size🤘
Who remembers ELF and Cycle Craft, Red Line,Red Line 3 piece brakes were the shit and bear claw pedals man if you took a bear claw pedal to the shin you know true pain.😂
So here's my question. Can you ride it hard? I am about your age. When I rode I pushed it as fast as I could through the streets of Miami. I know they do wheelies but can you race them. I'm talking about going so fast that you almost lay it down while your turning. Hope that makes sense. Great videos as well.
If you’re looking at speed as a primary factor, look at the geared fast ripper 29er. These bikes can move and the head tube is kicked out enough that you won’t feel sketchy in corners. They were designed by Todd Lyons so I trust the BMX geometry because that’s his wheelhouse. You’ll want to adjust the gearing for a higher top speed if you go with the single-speed big ripper. They can take a beating. I’d grab some hookworm tires if you’re riding fast on the streets too. Another option is the OM Duro. SE Bikes has a clip of Todd bombing down a ski slope in the summer on one of those. Regardless of the model, there’s a big BMX bike that’ll feel like your BMX bike you remember that’s sized for our adult bodies 🤘 - great question, thanks for asking💪
I understand for you why not... but what about most guys, Why not just get a 20" BMX with the pushed-back seat post and high- rise bars instead of a big wheel?
5'8" and am wondering about 24 inch or 26 inch bikes. Want the feel of a BMX but a 29" would be too big for me I guess. What are your thoughts on a pro performer 26 or dyno pro compe 24. Need it to commute 4 miles and I turned 50 today so to sit down and cruise at times.
"the fountain of youth" that's exactly what I've been telling all my buddies.
pan8a it’s true bro🤘🤘 thanks for watching!
I call it mid life crisis.
But don't get it twisted. I'm full on committed. I will get the fucking wheelie down!
Same thing happened to me I’m 49 bought my son a SC bike , saw it, had to have one .Reborn!
Hey Bobby! Welcome back to BMX my friend! Enjoy every moment of it, brother!
I am 48 I am 6'3"I have a 29 inch monster quadangle it is one of the best purchases I've ever made.
Thanks Tyler. Tell us why. I’m a huge fan of the Quadangle myself. My co-host Craig has one too and he says the same thing about it🤘
Isaac Irvine I have a monster quad too it’s very smooth and the stock gearing makes it nice and easy to ride far I am 6’2” and fit it well, I upgraded it to hydraulic brakes I would only change the handlebars to super big honkins
The Big Ripper has been my main bike for years. It's awesome. It's brought new life to my BMX riding.
That's awesome man. For me, it's helped me connect with my kids better and relive my passion for BMX bikes as an adult. Fountain of youth they are!
I was in the same place. Big bikes got me out and riding again. It’s gonna blow your mind bro🤘
@@BigBikeBMX How do you like AZ? Sucks compared to Cali huh? lol jk cheers man
Was my sons birthday just last week and got him a BMX, I was jealous straight away. Just brought a SE Maniacc can’t wait to get it and ride with him!!
The Maniacc Flyer is a fantastic bike! I love the 27.5 line of bikes. They’re comfy and agile🤘
Ryan, that's awesome! Welcome back to BMX. Enjoy the freedom and fun BMX has always had for us!
That’s awesome Luis! Welcome back🤘💪
God bless u bro I'm getting back into bmxing at 51 yes of age. I bought a 20" Sunday. I think I want a big bmx bike also
Thanks dude it’s like you were talking directly to me, I’m 48 ex flatlander who just wants to get back into riding.
Yeah man! Enjoy the rides and let them take you back to simple times🤘
BMX is in our blood. Once you’ve found your passion you can’t escape it🤘
I'm 47 years old and I just sold my retro 80's Haro and closed the chapter sadly. Now I found that I can't give it away and I'm getting a Fast Riipper.
That fast ripper is a game-changer. Great choice👍
They have some solid deals on them now, but who’s in a rush anyway! Just enjoy pedaling💪
@@BigBikeBMX okay will do! And thanks for the heads up!
Cheers Todd!
jan tan that’s awesome! Todd Anderson is a Legend🤘
Troy Grooms that’s awesome. Which one is your favorite right now? Or your favorite thing about each one?
@@BigBikeBMX 29 quad is favorite. It's just so unique. It's also number 13 made out of 500 I think. Maybe 250.
@@troygrooms5724 Quads are the greatest bikes made in my opinion. I want to find a "normal" sized 29 quad for my next bike. The monster quads are beautiful as well.

Im local in Dobson Ranch glad I found your channel Awesome video thanks.
Let’s go ride once this virus is passed. I’m usually riding up and down the canal and freestone park. 🤘
Have you tried a 22? A friend of mine is 6'3" and rides dirt on a fit 22 and just shreds
Welcome back to BMX my friend!
After cheap bikes in my early years, I was fortunate to upgrade to a 1990 Dyno Compe, which eventually led me to a Dyno Slammer the following year.
So many awesome memories were those years cruising and jumping on my Dyno. I quit riding when I got my drivers license. Tried getting back into
bikes about 6 years ago and ended up with a Fat Tire Beach Cruiser. Although it was cool and fun to ride, it didn't have that feeling I had on my BMX.
About that time, GT started bringing out the Heritage 26 & 29 throwbacks. It got my attention immediately. I debated forever and missed out thinking
my the feeling would pass but it didn't. I scoured the internet for months and finally landed the 29" Pro Compe! Riding this brings back all the nostalgia
I felt as kid!
Stephen Owens I’m selling my truck if they drop a 27.5 quadangle 💪🤘🤘
Look into SE Dirt Jumper, if you are interested.
Ey I’m from Santa Cruz g it’s cool to hear you used to live in the bay
Nor*Cal is home. Loyal to my soil.
They're a LOT of fun to ride for sure.
Yup. Great way to put it. Just like the freestyle bikes we grew up with - they’re all the same but each has its own feel🤘
@@BigBikeBMX yeah buddy ;)
Man I still watch the movie rad like twice a month. I think one off my first bikes was a western flyer I think my dad bought it at our local western auto. Then I got a sweet looking huffy I think. I finally got a Redline later on and the rode the crap out of that! Memories!!
I watch it for the opening credits mostly lol🤘
Lol!
Love the video!! Thanks for taking the time to make it!
I appreciate the kind words! We all grew up in different places, yet experienced the same exact thing as riders of bikes. It’s all family👍
Hi man, literally just found your channel and I love it. Really inspired to re-live my youth and buy something like that. Thanks.
Andrew Mortimer thanks brother! These big bikes are amazing and fun to ride. They feel like our old BMX bikes too🤘
Anyone remember PK Ripper? They were pretty rad back in the 80’s. My BMX bike in the 80’s was a GT Mach One. Was a big Eddie Fiola fan back in the day.

Bro, that’s awesome! I love this thing. 💪🤘

I'm waiting on my big ripper to arrive.. I'm stoked..thku for the vid.

55 and looking for a 24" Ripper. I have a restored 86 performer, and a NOS 8y Aero Reflex, both carpet queen's, never seen the tarmac.
Been looking for a video just like this! Thanks! Btw love the H1 in the background. Peace
Thanks for watching! The H1 was always my dream truck as a kid. They’re fun to drive but they’re super uncomfortable. The luxury items they added in 1995 were power windows and cigarette lighters. This one had a CD changer that was the size of NYC phone book too. 🤣
Love the content brother!!!
Thanks man! Sincerely appreciate you watching and leaving a comment. Means a lot🤘
Just picked up a 2017 big ripper yesterday!! My wife and kids think I’m having a midlife crisis! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Im ok with it as long as I can ride again!!🥳 Great Video!!
Enjoy the fountain of youth my friend🤘
The exact video I was looking for
Thanks for watching!
Mostly people use that bike for wheelies as you said but most people get the longest bars to hand drag and I got 7 se my mom just bought me other will be here tomorrow and I’m going to put long bars for hand dragging but besides that I get you
Turn 40 in Jan. and I’m looking for the right 29”er for me. I’m starting to believe se is where it’s at
SE is tried and true.
Tater
Found it in the New Retro Wave archives. (My favorite music) You, good sir, have fantastic taste. :)
Just got that same bike 2019 big ripper thinking about getting some taller bars myself great vid by the way
Congrats on your new bike!
Hey thanks! I did the same with my Big Ripper. Swap a few parts here and there and make it perfect for you🤘
I have an old 83 quadangle Reynolds 531 that I'm getting ready to powder coat back to the factory snow white and nos sticker kit, still undecided if I'm going to build it or hang it on the wall.
Cool video . Definitely has the BMX love.
Anthony Drexler good luck bro! Welcome back to BMX too. I hear city grounds has big rippers on their online store
Isaac Irvine, thank you! I got my Monster Quad from City Grounds today
great video man thanks! just wish i could find one, they are all sold out!
They dropped some new big rippers today and they sold out in 10 minutes. More are coming🤘
I miss my GT mach 1. 1985 was such a great era.
Too big.
Robert Frias is love to see that bike!
@@NitroModelsAndComics What a great story! Glad you got it back in ANY condition. !!!
Awesome vid! Thanks for the information
Thanks for watching 🤘
I felt the same way when I got my 2018 Big Ripper
It's a great feeling when you find a bike that fits!
Great Vid. Time to go pick up a 2020 SE 🤙🏽
Thanks for watching. SE is dropping some great bikes right now.
Yo isaac I'm 45 years young my first real freestyle bike was an mt racing trick fox
Thanks awesome! Got any old photos of it? Tag me on Instagram if you do🤘
@@BigBikeBMX I gotta look for them, if I do I'll definitely hit you up
These big bike videos are right in my wheel house.
robert barrios that is awesome! I’ll catch you two on a rideout down there when the quarantine is over🤘
I'm 39 and have a big flyer and I love it!!!! So much fun
I'm 6ft 320lbs you think these bikes are sturdy enough for me now I'm 48 years old?? Love the look of these bikes & rember riding anywhere & everywhere I cud....I appreciate ur opinion if this bike will work for me now days...thank u
drewdown it will be just fine bro. I have a few big boy buddies who ride them daily🤘
Thank you so much! I called this morning to order one (live in Modesto) "29 Atlanta " but they put me on waiting list..$747 on ebay & social media going for double the price
drewdown there’s a good shop off Carpenter Rd I believe. I lived in Modesto for years and there’s a nice big bike community in the 209Rippers🤘
OZONE bikes? Whaaat? I grew up in Cupertino in the 80's and I've never heard of them...and never saw one at Calabazas either. I probably would have at least tried one for $200. My GJS freestyle frame and fork were like $175!
Ozone hit really big in 1988. They sponsored most of the Nor Cal locals and pros like Craig Campbell and Craig Grasso.
@@BigBikeBMX Ah gotcha. I joined the USAF in early 1989, so I guess I just missed that moment.
Thank you i went to my local shop and rode a few different se bikes and somehow ended up with a monster quad
Race inc. Also makes 26 and 29
There’s quite a few brands that have jumped on the big bike trend since publishing this video. RaceInc is one of them 💪
You probably would have been good on an OM Flyer. bars are an easy fix just find the ones that are as wide as you like and have the right rise. I just picked up a big ripper because I got a good deal on it, I think and OM or Floval flyer would have been just fine but if I don't like it, I can trade into either the OM or Floval flyer.
@@charlesvincent4127 I actually switched to a 26” Supercross BMX sx250 and love it. 26” in my favorite size for big BMX these days
Cheers.
I’m such a hardheaded 80’s old school head that I’m considering trading my buddy my brand new Fast Ripper for his new 26” Fat Mike Buff
Tough call. Both are great bikes!
I'm 6'2 13 Imma get one of these
They’re amazing bikes. SE Bikes team rider Matt Rickard is 6 foot 5 inches and he rides one. 🤘
Yes! Rad! Easily one of my favorite movies.
Right?! Not gonna lie, the intro is the best part though!
Anyone tried the redline 27.5? I was thinking about trying that one myself. 80's rider, had an rl20b 88
Same sizing 6ft 190's
I’ve rode the squareback and the 27.5 A$OP colab. You’ll want taller bars but knightbikeco.com has some v bars that look like OG Redline bars.
I personally found my home on the PK Ripper 27.5 and love the geometry. Feels exactly like my 80s bikes felt. You’ll love the size🤘
Subscribed, great content!
Franco D'Elia thanks man! I appreciate the feedback. I’m happy to share what I know to help you find the right bike for you🤘
Hey man your from San Jose? Did you ever ride calabazas or tea cups? Those were the days!!!!
Timeless Vick I was over in Stockton/Lodi/Modesto. Rode all over Nor Cal though🤘👍
Who remembers ELF and Cycle Craft, Red Line,Red Line 3 piece brakes were the shit and bear claw pedals man if you took a bear claw pedal to the shin you know true pain.😂
Elf is still around and hutch still makes those crazy skin-killing pedals. Instant trip to the hospital on those 🤣🤣🤣
I still have nightmares and PTSD from those old bear trap pedals
Im the same age and Im not old untill i ride into the grave 💪✊✌️😎
Good point🤘
thank god we have you
What kind of headsets are these bikes using nowadays are they still threaded?
I understand for you why not... but what about most guys, Why not just get a 20" BMX with the pushed-back seat post and high- rise bars instead of a big wheel?
Awesome video
5'8" and am wondering about 24 inch or 26 inch bikes. Want the feel of a BMX but a 29" would be too big for me I guess. What are your thoughts on a pro performer 26 or dyno pro compe 24. Need it to commute 4 miles and I turned 50 today so to sit down and cruise at times.
